Spectacular Birthday with Cake Crazy

Spectacular Birthday with Cake Crazy

Cake crazy is something I am for sure. I love birthdays, especially for the cake.  What about you?

Next week we have a special girl celebrating the big 14!  Dang.  How can this be?

Every day Russ and I just look at each other dazed as he hit new milestones with our kids.  Brandon’s driving. Alexis is turning 14 acting like 18.  It’s hard.  Hard to let them grow up.

While there growing up I sit in my stamp room and pretend they are still wee ones.  It’s a sad case of denial and I’m okay with it.

Let’s Get Cake Crazy

I recently participated in a swap with other demonstrators using the new stamp sets from the Occasions catalog and the cards were fantastic.

After changing my mind a few times I finally decided to use the Cake Crazy stamp set for my swap.  I love creating birthday cards which made the process easier.

After playing with the Cake Crazy stamp set, I fell deeper in love with the stamp set.

Spectacular Birthday Cake Crazy, Stampin' Up!

My favorite part creating this card was the color combination.  I used a color I haven’t touched in a long time, Tempting Turquoise.

Create It!

Follow these steps below to create this card.

  • Card base is Whisper White cardstock 4-1/4″ x 11.
  • Stamp cake pieces using the following ink: Tangerine Tango, Cucumber Crush, Tempting Turquoise, Old Olive.
  • Stamp the words Spectacular and Crazy onto scrap cardstock and trim as close to the image as possible using Paper Snips.
  • Place stamped words onto card front using a dimensional.

Spectacular Birthday Cake Crazy, Stampin' Up!

  • Adhere a 1/4″ x 5-1/2″ strip of Tempting Turquoise down the right edge of the Whisper White card front.
  • Adhere a 1″ x 5-1/2″ piece of Party Animal Designer Series Paper onto the right side of the card base using Snail Adhesive.
  • Place card front onto card base using dimensional’s.
  • Create a splatter over the entire card using a Blender Pen and Tempting Turquoise ink.
  • Attach Rhinestones to the card front.

Bringing Birthday’s Back

Now I have a fun card created and placed in my birthday card stash.

You might remember last year around this time one of our dear Stampin’ Up! staff members started a campaign to bring birthdays back by sending MORE birthday cards through the mail.  Man did she ever deliver.  Over 2,000 cards were sent by her and over 2,000 happy birthday friends received beautiful cards, myself included.

I will tell you I sent more birthday cards last year than I ever have.  It felt great, even for a card maker that is terrible about sending cards.

I will continue to encourage you like myself, to keep sending those cards.  We all know the smile it brings to someone’s face when they receive happy mail.

Spectacular Birthday Cake Crazy, Stampin' Up!

With all of the beautiful birthday stamps available from Stampin’ Up!, it’s easy to create and even better to coordinate the products.

Keep in mind, the Cake Crazy stamp set could even be used for a wedding cake.

You can find all of the products used for this card in the clickable links below.

Shake & Celebrate Birthday

Shake & Celebrate Birthday

Its time to shake things up with a shaker birthday card.

I was looking through my stamps and noticed the Shake & Celebrate stamp set untouched.

The Shaker Shapes Framelits are on the closeout sale and make shaker cards simple to create.

Quick & Simple Birthday Card

I love creating shaker cards because they always create a WOW when received.

Shake & Celebrate, Stampin' Up!, Birthday

The Shake & Celebrate stamp set can create a beautiful birthday cake or even a fun Christmas tree.  Either image, the best part is the coordinating die cuts that create the window for the shaker.

Shake & Celebrate, Stampin' Up!, Birthday

Create It

  • I created a birthday cake by stamping the cake first using the Bermuda Bay Ombre’ Stampin’ Pad.  When using this pad ink  the images in small circles onto the pad and then stamp the image onto Whisper White cardstock.
  • Die cut the cake using the same size Whisper White as the image you stamped with the cake (3″ x 3-3/4″).
  • Attach a window sheet on the back of the die cut cardstock using Fast Fuse.
  • To create the shaker card, use the Foam Adhesive Strips directly onto the back of the window sheet.  I placed a strip along the entire outside of the cake, and along each pillar of the cake.  This way the shaker elements will stay in between each of the layers of cake.
  • Place the Gold Mica Flakes from the Mica Flakes Trio Pack over the sections created using the Foam Adhesive Strips and place the Whisper White cardstock with the stamped birthday cake onto the adhesive strips to finish the shaker card.
  • Place the shaker card onto the Pretty Paisleys Textured embossed cardstock (4″ x 5-1/2″).

Shake & Celebrate, Stampin' Up!, Birthday

  • Stamp the greeting onto Bermuda Bay cardstock (1/2″ x 4″) using Archival Basic Black ink.
  • Place the card front onto Bermuda Bay cardstock 4-1/8″ x 5-1/2 then onto a Whisper White cardstock base (4-1/4″ x 11).

Here’s a Quick Way to Use the Balloon Adventures

Balloon Adventures Stamp Set

The Balloon Adventures stamp set is one of the many amazing birthday stamp sets in the new occasions catalog.

Today I have a quick way to use this stamp set and create a fun birthday card.

Balloon Adventures stamp set, Stampin' Up!

Never Enough Birthday Cards

Let’s face it, we will never have enough birthday cards on hand.  It’s not possible, at least for me anyway.

At first I asked myself did I really need another balloon stamp set? Quickly I thought no, but there are a few things about the Balloon Adventure stamp set that caught my eye.

  1. The fonts in the greetings of this stamp set are amazing. It is definitely something that caught my eye which makes designing SO much easier for me.
  2. Not one, but two coordinating ways to cut images in this set.  The balloons coordinate with the Balloon Bouquet punch and the Balloon Pop-Up Thinlits Dies.
  3. Party Animal Suite coordinates with this stamp set perfectly.

Masking with Balloon Adventures

One of the ways you can quickly create fun birthday cards with this set is by masking the balloons.

The masking technique creates the illusion that one image is behind the other and creates depth.  The first image you stamp is the image that will be in the front.

To mask using the Balloon Adventures stamp set you will need a simple Post-It Note.  Stamp the image onto the Post-It Note and cut the image out just inside the lines.  This is now your mask.

Stamp the image again onto your cardstock. Place your mask covering the image completely to protect it as you stamp the second time.  I love using Post-It Notes because the adhesive sticks to the image and makes it easy to stamp over.

Stamp the image again, positioning the image partially onto the mask. This second image will appear to be behind the first. Continue to move your mask around to create more depth.

You can see how I created many balloons in a bunch using one mask in this picture below.

Balloon Adventures stamp set, Stampin' Up!

You can also see how I masked in the original card below. I love how they all look bunched together.

Balloon Pop-Up Thinlits Dies

The new Balloon Pop-Up Thinlits Dies are perfect to create an interactive card.  Plus, another great thing I found  is the banner attached with this thinlits.

Balloon Adventures stamp set, Stampin' Up!

The banner I created for this card is part of the pop-up.  I simply trimmed in a couple of places on the cardstock to make the banner stand alone.  Once it was die cut, I stamped the banner images from the Balloon Adventures stamp set.

Little Known Ways to Embellish a Card

Embellish Cards with Ease

Do you struggle with applying embellishments to your cards?

Today we are going to look at little known ways to apply embellishments.

What I Call Embellishments

Sometimes we can be quick to think that embellishments are particular products.

For instance, my brain instantly thinks of the following products when I hear the word embellishments

  • ribbon
  • buttons
  • enamel dots
  • twine
  • doilies (let’s face it… I can’t live without these!)

While these are all my favorites and used frequently, I have a few others that I love and use more and possibly not thought of as embellishments.

  • paper – YES! SO many great ways to use paper as an embellishment
  • staples – I use them ALL the time.
  • die cuts
  • punches

Embellishing Can Be Simple

Embellish, Biggest Birthday Ever, Stampin' Up!

If you are a new stamper these little tips will help you when creating.  I remember when I first started stamping the one thing I didn’t have a lot of on hand was embellishments.

One of the things I learned early was to use paper to embellish.  Adding layers is simple with cardstock and even better when you can add texture to the cardstock and incorporate the layers.

Cardstock Banners

Banners are one of my go to favorites.  I love the many ways you can create a banner with a simple strip of cardstock.  I can fold it, create a “v” on the ends of them and even staple it where it needs to go.

Embellish, Biggest Birthday Ever, Stampin' Up!

Die cuts are another great way to embellish.  Die cuts can add texture to any project and depending on the die cut or framelit you use, it will add layering.

Embellish, Biggest Birthday Ever, Stampin' Up!

The Wish Big Framelits were perfect for this as each little piece added another layer of frosting, a cherry and even different slices to the big ole cake.

Embellish, Biggest Birthday Ever, Stampin' Up!

Don’t forget that a doily can add the perfect touch to a card.  Another favorite is the Texture Impressions Embossing Folders.  The Polka Dots are an all time favorite because it coordinates with so many things.  It’s definitely a WIN WIN.

Another Cardstock Use- Double It!

Embellish, Biggest Birthday Ever, Stampin' Up!

Adding layers can be as simple as using a double mat on a card.  I love to use a double mat of the same color which gives the card beautiful dimension.

You might be thinking…. what a waste of paper.

Here is my thought, and granite it’s only my opinion… paper or cardstock is one of the cheapest embellishments we have and provides the dimension so easily.

Think of doubling the cardstock on your die cuts.

Embellish, Biggest Birthday Ever, Stampin' Up!

For this card if you look at the star you will notice that is not a single piece of cardstock.  The star was layered three times.

First I’ll tell you this was due to a mistake I had made.  Yep.  It’s one of those times a mistake turned into a treasure.

By triple layering the die cut it gives great dimension and makes the star appear like a thick embellishment.  SIMPLE addition and fun.

Embellish, Biggest Birthday Ever, Stampin' Up!

Adding twine behind the star along with a doily again not only adds a fun way to embellish the card but it also added simple embellishments.

Remember, a staple not only holds your pieces together but you can also color them quickly with a sharpie to accent them.

Using a stapler has been one of my favorite tools and definitely adds ease to creating for this lazy stamper that I am.

Really.. I am.

Biggest Birthday Ever Made Simple

Today’s cards use the Biggest Birthday Ever stamp set.  I also shared two cards on Friday using this set HERE.  My goal in sharing this stamp set was for a few reasons:

  • Versatility- Biggest Birthday Ever stamp set doesn’t have to be ALL birthday.  You can use the stars for a baby card or tell anyone they are a super star on other days besides a birthday.  You can create clouds, or and ice cream cone… the ideas are endless.
  • Show how you can use the framelits as embellishments.
  • Share simple everyday embellishments

Quick Tip

One of my FAVORITE embellishments to play with right now is the 5/8″ Burlap Ribbon.  When you pull the threads on this burlap you are left with a very nice workable twine.  This is the twine I have been using ALL the time.  I love our Linen Thread, but this has a thickness just a smidge more than Linen Thread provides.  Try it.  You will see how easily this twine is to wrap and play with.

Your Turn To Create

I challenge you today to embellish your cards using cardstock.  Try a banner, or fold one end of the banner to create a unique look.  Take a framelit and triple stack to create dimension.

The journey of embellishing begins with trying.  Try something new and fun to add a little uniqueness to a card.

Celebrate Big, Biggest Birthday Ever, Stampin' Up!

Let’s Celebrate Big

Let’s Celebrate Big

The phrase in our house is “go big” or step aside…

This pertains to everything.  I chuckled when I pulled out my new stamp bundle, Biggest Birthday Ever.

It’s BIG.  It’s all about celebrating and I can’t wait to share two cards I created using it.

Biggest Ice Cream Ever!

Celebrate Big, Biggest Birthday Ever, Stampin' Up!

I thought we would start with one of my favorite things, ice cream.

If you are looking to create a few simple birthday or celebration cards,  the Biggest Birthday Ever stamp set paired with the Wish Big Framelits is ideal.

Celebrate Big, Biggest Birthday Ever, Stampin' Up!

You will  notice there are no greetings in this stamp set, which gives you plenty of options to add from your stash of celebration or birthday greetings you have.

Celebrate Big, Biggest Birthday Ever, Stampin' Up!

I used the Sweet Stack stamp set for the greeting.  Sweet and ice cream was a perfect combination.  I love the size of the “scoops” and I love that you can create them in ANY color you wish using inks or the framelits.

Celebrate Big, Biggest Birthday Ever, Stampin' Up!

The Flirty Flamingo was my main color focus for this card.  I added a splash of Blush Blossom, Soft Suede and Early Espresso inks and cardstocks to compliment the card.  I love how you can add a simple embellishment such as the Enamel Dots for a little extra happiness to the card.

Celebrate Big, Biggest Birthday Ever, Stampin' Up!

Be the Queen

One of the images that I love in this set is the tiara.

If I can’t wear one around my house on a daily basis (which I feel like I should) I can create one.  Then I can frame it and look at it every day.

Celebrate Big, Biggest Birthday Ever, Stampin' Up!

Another simple card with a few cardstock layers using Calypso Coral, Flirty Flamingo, Basic Black and Blush Blossom.

Celebrate Big, Biggest Birthday Ever, Stampin' Up!

I used the Playful Backgrounds stamp set to add the fun circle background in Flirty Flamingo.

Celebrate Big, Biggest Birthday Ever, Stampin' Up!

The greeting was from the Sunshine Sayings-my favorite greeting set right now.

Celebrate Big, Biggest Birthday Ever, Stampin' Up!

Celebrate Big!

Creating for any celebration or birthday is easy with this stamp set.

Ice Cream, cake and tiara’s you cannot go wrong.
