Be Inspired- Inside The Lines

Be Inspired, Inside the Lines, Stampin' Up!

We all know that inspiration can be found everywhere when it comes to paper crafts. Today, that inspiration is coming from the Be Inspired Design Team, and you may have just hopped here from Carolynn’s blog.  Our theme today is Sale-a-Bration, which means a FREE product for every $50 purchase from Stampin’ Up!

Inside the Lines Designer Series Paper

I am sure as a paper crafter you might be aware of the popular new craze called adult coloring books.  While I am sure they have been around forever, this girl who lives under a rock discovered them last fall.

When I found them at a local craft store I instantly did not think of myself using them, but more so for my daughter who loves to color.  However, the images in these coloring books were breathtaking, and it did look fun.

Fast forward to our new Sale-a-Bration catalog and what do my eyes see? Yes, a designer paper just waiting to be colored.

The Inside the Lines Designer Series Paper leaves you with the opportunity to make the colors of each paper your own.

Be Creative and Color

To my surprise, I ended up loving each of these cards, and I am eager to share them with you.

The creative process started with only taking 1 of each of the four designs and cutting each 12 x 12 designer paper to 4″ x 5-1/4″.

Each card is colored using a different tool such as the following:

  • Sponging
  • Watercoloring
  • Sponge Daubers
  • Markers

You will notice that each method of coloring provided a different look to the designer paper and gave more insight on how the paper would hold up using each of these tools.  While each card is different, they are very simple with only a few additional layers of embellishments.  All of the greetings came from one stamp set, Suite Sentiments.

Let’s see how this paper comes to life.

First, let’s take a look at how a simple sponge can create a beautiful look to this card.

Be Inspired, Inside the Lines, Stampin' Up!

I sponged the leaves with Garden Green and Pear Pizzaz Classic Ink.

After I had sponged the leaves, I only fussy cut the image and layered onto another piece of the designer series paper.

Be Inspired, Inside the Lines, Stampin' Up!

Next, stamp the greeting from the Suite Sentiments stamp set onto a Lots of Labels framelit dies.

Watercoloring on designer series paper added an entirely new appreciation for this beautiful paper.

Be Inspired, Inside the Lines, Stampin' Up!

Quick Tips:

  • I used an Aqua Painter to color the flower using Daffodil Delight and Tangerine Tango Classic Ink.
  • Heat set the paper using a Heat Tool.
  • Due to the watercolor, you might notice the paper will wrinkle. Use Fast Fuse adhesive so that the paper will lay flat onto the card base.

Sponge Daubers

This next card uses one of my favorite sponging tools, Sponge Daubers.

Be Inspired, Inside the Lines, Stampin' Up!

Rather than using the entire sponge to color the images as I utilized in the first card, the Sponge Dauber highlighted the flowers all over the paper using Crushed Curry Classic Ink.

The leaves were colored using Pear Pizzaz Ink and an Aqua Painter.  Finally, to finish the card, I added the greeting with a few die cuts and ribbon.

Last, but certainly not least I used markers to color the images.

One of the greatest coloring tools you will find in the Stampin’ Up! product line is the Many Marvelous Markers.  What sets these markers apart from any other marker is the color coordination with all of Stampin’ Up! products.

Be Inspired, Inside the Lines, Stampin' Up!

I used the brush tip of the marker and quickly colored the flower using Daffodil Delight, Pear Pizzaz, and Tangerine Tango.

Be Inspired, Inside the Lines, Stampin' Up!

A few things to note about each of the four cards:

  • All the colors coordinate together.
  • The coloring techniques only highlight a piece of the designer series paper.
  • Each card uses a greeting from the same stamp set, Suite Sentiments.
  • Embellishments are simple pieces of ribbons or doilies.

Crafting with the Inside the Lines Designer Series Paper brought back great memories of coloring in color books all the while creating beautiful cards.  This product will not disappoint and will provide hours of crafting enjoyment.

Leave a comment and tell me which card catches your eye the most.

Tips & Tricks

Hey Chick, Sale-a-Bration, Stampin' Up!

It’s been awhile since I’ve used Watercolor Pencils, but I love how easy they are to use with a Blender Pen on Whisper White cardstock.

Here are a few tips & tricks I used for this fun chicken card.

  • Stamp the image using Archival Basic Black ink.  Heat set the image using a heat tool, or let the ink dry very well before water coloring. I used a Blender Pen to water color the chicken image.
  • The Urban Underground Suite has perfect products to coordinate with the Hey Chick stamp set such as the designer series paper as well as the Hexagon Dynamic  Textured Impressions embossing folder,
  • Stamp the chicken and the greeting onto cardstock, then die cut using the Stitched Shapes Framelits.  These will be available mid-January.

You can see all products used for this project below in the clickable links.

  • Lastly, I added my favorite twine using the 5/8″ Burlap Ribbon, taking one piece of twine from the ribbon and curling a few times in my palm and stapling to the focal image.

Glitter Candy Cane Christmas

Glitter Candy Canes

Over the last few weeks I’ve had a whirlwind of major fun.

My paper crafting pile of projects is sky high and I’m on pins and needles ready to share with you…

Finally I have a minute to sit and share one project that’s glittery and sweet! Maybe TWO!!

After today, I’ll be sharing projects from the recent cruise as well as the Stampin’ Up! conference, truly a ton of paper goodness!

Banners for Christmas

Recently I shared this card in my bi-weekly newsletter (make sure to subscribe!!).  I wanted to share a few more photos of this card because I loved the glittery shine it has and the elegant gold embossing.

Glitter Candy Cane, Stampin' Up!

Glitter Candy Cane, Stampin' Up!

The banners in the Banners for Christmas stamp set rock my world.  I love how the banners wrap over the candy cane and mistletoe images and especially when the banners are embossed.

Glitter Candy Cane, Stampin' Up!

The Real Red Glitter Stampin’ Emboss Powder was perfect for the Candy Cane image.  I’m calling this PERFECTION.

If you are someone who is not a fan of glitter, the embossing glitter is a bonus. This is glitter that doesn’t rub off.  YAY!

Glitter Candy Cane, Stampin' Up!

Glitter Candy Cane, Stampin' Up!

The picture never does a card justice because you can’t see how the glitter gives a shimmer when you move the card around.

Tips & Tricks

  • Create a watercolor wash onto Watercolor Paper using Pink Pirouette and Watermelon Wonder Inks.
  • The Watercolor paper measures 3-3/4″ x 5-1/2″ placed onto the Whisper White card base.
  • The Candy Cane Lane Designer Washi Tape is perfect to complete this project.  Simply place a strip along the edge of the card front. Adhere Watercolor Paper over card base using Dimensionals.

One Last Project

I couldn’t help share ONE last cute project I created for the cruise last week.

Glitter Candy Cane, Stampin' Up!

One of the highlights of the cruise was the swaps.  AMAZING swaps.  This was created for the tag swap.  I’ll be sharing all of the projects later this week so hang tight.  You don’t want to miss them.

The Greetings from Santa Bundle was used to create this fun tag. My favorite little detail is the Mini Jingle Bells.  SO cute and just a little added detail to make this tag POP.

Pastor Appreciation- Labeler Alphabet

Pastor Appreciation Month

You may not be aware, but October is Pastor Appreciation Month.

After talking to one of my friends at church we were discussing our Pastor and the great man he is.

This had me walking away thinking about all this man and his family has done for my little messy family.

Yes, messy!  I believe Pastors and their families see some really messy stuff.

Labeler Alphabet, Stampin' Up!

Creating Appreciation

If there was ever the opportunity to create a bit of appreciation it was NOW.

The only problem was articulating what I wanted to create for our Pastor and the supplies on hand.

Surely with the load of supplies I had in sight I could create the perfect card…

While the perfect greeting wasn’t in sight… I had an idea.

My idea was to articulate something with our church mission.

The Brain Starts Clicking!

You gotta love when the brain starts clicking and the creativity starts overflowing.

Then the products and creativity work together.

First I grabbed the stamp set Places You’ll Go with the gorgeous globe and stand.

Next, the stamp set that wins for making this card possible-Labeler Alphabet!

Do you have a word or perfect greeting thats not already a stamp? Create your own with the Labeler Alphabet.

“Making Disciples of All Nations” was the greeting I wanted and the Labeler Alphabet was PERFECTION!

Labeler Alphabet, Stampin' Up!

Tips & Tricks

Below are a few tips & tricks when working with the Labeler Alphabet stamp set.

  • You can place the stamps on a block to create the words or stamp individually.
  • When stamping the words together you will notice more space between the letters because of how the images appear.
  • Heat emboss with embossing powder to give a realistic look of a label.  VersaMark Ink and White Embossing Powder achieved the look in the picture above.
  • The Globe and stand were stamped with VersaMark ink and embossed with Gold Embossing Powder.  You can create the colored globe by simply sponging Pool Party and Mint Macaron ink together over the embossed image.
  • Create a watercolor background using Pool Party and Mint Macaron ink with an Aqua Painter onto Watercolor Paper.

Regardless of what greeting you need, the Labeler Alphabet stamp set can help you achieve the results needed.

Make Others Feel Appreciated

We don’t have to have a special month to make others feel appreciated.  As stampers we have the opportunity to send a quick card and let others know our appreciation every single day.

Don’t forget the power of a hand stamped card. It’s a beautiful thing.

Today pull out a card that you have created and let someone know how much you appreciate them.

Banners For Christmas- Stampin’ Up!

Banners For Christmas

It’s been an eventful weekend.  Nothing as planned, however I did stamp!

Banners for Christmas was top of the list.

Simple & Elegant

Banners for Christmas, Stampin' Up!

Todays post will be a short and sweet one.  Okay, that is a lie….

If you scroll to the bottom I’ll give the details….  The Van Deep in Troubles are at it again.

But first… let’s get to the pretty stuff.  Can we?

Banners for Christmas has been sitting silently on my desk waiting to be used and I’m so glad it was the set chosen to work with this weekend.

Banners for Christmas, Stampin' Up!

Lots of great elements in this one stamp set.  Awesome fonts and beautiful holiday images wrapped into one.

The banners coordinate with the Bunch of Banners Framelits making it a perfect addition for your holiday projects.

Banners for Christmas, Stampin' Up!

Tips & Tricks

  • The banner was heat embossed using Gold Embossing Powder.  If you look closely the VersaMark ink use didn’t catch all of the image.  This one little happy mistake made the card perfection because in my eyes it turned out with a vintage appeal. SCORE!
  • The mistletoe image was stamped with Early Espresso, fussy cut then colored using a blender pen with Old Olive and Real Red ink.
  • Create the background by watercoloring a wash of Old Olive ink onto Watercolor Paper, then splatter Real Red ink over the image once the watercoloring is dry.
  • Bakers Twine Trio Pack is a new favorite embellishment.  The Gold Twine is flexible but stiff making bows and wrapping of the twine simple to use.

Banners for Christmas, Stampin' Up!

  • Use dimensionals to give the banner a little height off of the mistletoe image.

Final Details

The last detail I added to this card was a Real Red ink splatter over the banner.  It was just enough to finish the card.

Banners for Christmas will make a great addition to your holiday stamping collection.  Its perfect to create more than just a handmade card.

Frames, tags, and 3D holiday projects will keep this stamp set inked during the busy season.

Pair this set with the gorgeous This Christmas Designer Series Paper and change the look of one card to many by switching out the patterns.

Keeping Up With the Van Diepen’s

Why we haven’t started our own reality show is beyond me.  We could keep thousands entertained with our shenanigans.

Monday being Columbus Day meant a day off of work and school for all of us.

Alexis and I were looking forward to a day of sleeping in and lounging around the house since the men of the house were on a caving expedition with the scouts.

The big plan was to spend time creating.

Plan… that is the word I need to stop using.  Of course having a plan is a great thing.  We all love to plan.  However, I always need to remember that all good plans are not always going to happen. God always has a different one.

It started with Alexis once again not feeling well.  Honestly the child has not felt well for over a month.  Recently she battled with sinus infection and that’s exactly the symptoms she was exhibiting again.

Urgent Care First Visit

I texted Russ as I knew he was driving home and let him know my plans to take our girl to be seen at Urgent Care.

His reply was not one I expected-” I might need to make myself a Dr. Appointment.”

Hmm.  I thought that was odd the Prince never gets sick.

His reply- “I sprained my ankle!”

Oh boy.  I proceeded with Alexis and just as I thought she had another sinus infection.  We were sent home with a bag of medications and strict instructions to cool it for a bit.  In other words, no gymnastics for a few days.

It was a joyful ride home needless to say.

Urgent Care Second Visit

I was home for a matter of 30 minutes when the men rolled up into the driveway.  I decided to meet the prince outside in case he needed assistance.  Glad I did.

How he drove home… well lets not go there.

Once we got him inside and I took off his shoe that he managed to fit on his foot Nurse Ratchet came out of me.

His foot was swollen three times the normal size with dark purple bruising on the outer edge of his ankle.

One look from me and I told him that was not a sprain.  That was BROKEN.

Off to the urgent care again….

Didn’t We Just See You?

Nothing is more awkward than walking into an urgent care clinic for the second time this time with a new victim.

The looks on their faces was pretty funny.

Once taken back, X-rays complete we had the verdict.

Had I been a betting kind of woman, I’d be rich.  Just as I expected, broken ankle.

It’s about this time my brain started spinning with 1000 scenarios.

Being the realist, instantly I looked down at his swollen foot and knew we were in for a few changes with the Prince.

Thankfully this happened on the right foot.  Technically this is the bad foot because of his stroke, but good because it would have been a disaster had it been the left.

Slowly as if Charlie Brown were speaking I heard the nurse utter the words… no driving, possible surgery and referral to orthopedics.

I thought about crying at that moment.  Russ has been doing AMAZING since his retirement and literally blown me away with his increase in physical abilities.

Houston… we have a set back.

These Things I Know!

If you follow me on Facebook you might have seen something  I posted I believe is true concerning this weekend…

  1. I am grateful for our medical coverage.
  2. I am grateful God gave me a sense of humor.  Although at times I felt like crying because nothing was going as planned, we laughed together at our crazy life. Sometimes this is the best medicine.
  3. This day could of been SO much worse than it was.  A little boogers,  ankle breaking is nothing compared to people dealing with their homes flooding from Matthew, or more dramatic health issues or who knows what else.
  4. God is in control and he always shows me this during times I want FULL control of whats going on. I’m pretty sure I entertain Him on a daily basis of what I feel should occur in my life.
  5. For the next few weeks (or maybe six…. ) I need to remember #1-4! I promise I will need to be reminded.

As I sit here writing I have to giggle.  I have my prince propped up on pillows with a big ice baggie and he’s smiling. He’s in no pain as of right now.   The days ahead might get a little hectic especially with some upcoming events but we will make it.

Lesson For Today

Ultimately I have to remember that things change in the blink of an eye.  Funny how I know this to be true.

Find joy in everything you do.  Don’t let a few bumps in the road define you.  I’m pretty sure I only know how to take a really really bumpy road these days.

Sometimes the bumpy road is not as scenic and pretty but the lessons learned from it can be a blessing.  If you are having a bumpy day or week, chin up and take a step back to see the goodness that can come out of it.  I promise there is something!

Praying your weekend was WAY less eventful than mine.  I’ll keep you posted on my patients.

Don’t forget! When you spend $50 in my Online Store, you will receive my September Tutorial FREE.
