Believe it or not, it’s all stamping related but of course I’ll use it as a life lesson as well. How is THAT?
Negative vs. Positive
I needed a quick card for Alexis to take to a birthday party this past weekend. Of course I have birthday cards on hand but not for a ONE year old. When it comes to anything “baby” or “kid” related I usually fall short with ideas. Until this idea hit me…
I was thumbing through my stamp cabinet when I noticed my Build a Birthday stamp set. A set that had not been touched.
I built the cake and then decided to use my Little Letters Thinlits to create the “ONE.” But this time instead of using it the “normal” way I used the negative of the letters. So simple and lined up perfectly as one of my layers for the cake.
I was giddy when creating this card because of the irony behind it. Turning a negative into a positive. Umm… that’s what I should be doing in LIFE. Lord knows I have some negative things being thrown my way and much of the time I try to turn them into a positive or think of how God’s showing me the blessing in disguise.
Right? This is a life “thing” that many of us run up against.
I decided to get a bit more fancy with the card and we all know that the baby could care less. I was purely thinking mama might enjoy. Honestly, after i stuck the pearls and sequins on the card all I could think about was it being a possible chocking hazard. Oh geez.
Looking at this close up it almost looks like the letters were applied onto the Whisper White. Nope…
Tips & Tricks-
I have a little tip for you when using photopolymer stamps.
I. LoVe. ThEm! One of the things I notice when I’m using a photopolymer set for the first time is occasionally it stamps weird. It tends to be splotchy or excess ink is found in places it shouldn’t be. This doesn’t happen for every new inked set but I found a trick that works to fix the problem ALWAYS.
Before you use the images, take an eraser and rub the entire image with the eraser. Then clean the stamp on your Stampin’ Scrub. Now ink it up and it should stamp perfectly. Typically I find these stamps come with a film on them. The eraser cleans the film that is on the images. Once “erased” it will stamp perfectly crisp.
I hope you will try the technique using the negative of a die cut. My head is swimming with ideas and I created a Christmas card using this technique too. I’ll share tomorrow.
I’m pulling out my superwoman cape for a few days. Somehow I have packed a bit too much onto my plate. Imagine that. ????
Create something pretty and turn your negatives into positives. XOXOXOXO
