Celebrating Life & Prince

Celebrating Life & Prince

Celebrating today… I guess you can call it that.  Celebrating the life of Prince.  How can it be true?

After hearing the news about Prince today I’ve had a rush of amazing memories from my teen years listening to his music.

Celebrating, Prince

I can’t believe he’s gone.

One of the most creative music artists in my book.  He could be a little freakish, but I was totally attracted to that.  Most of all I loved his music and probably the only artist that I knew every word when I sang his tunes. That says a lot as I typically mumble many words to songs I love because I can’t remember the words.   I loved his music that much.

I’ve celebrated his life by listening to every song he has written.  I was frantic looking for one of his CD’s in the house. Still haven’t found it. Sigh….

As I was listening it brought back more memories of sitting by the radio waiting for one of his songs to play so I could record it.  Yes, I did that.  Did you? Remember when the radio guy would keep talking while you were trying to record your favorite tune? Those were the BEST tapes.

I had a list of things to get done today.  It didn’t happen.  Instead I’ve tested the patience of my children as I’ve made them listen to Prince all evening.  At one point I think I heard one of them say, “Not again!”

I think I’ll  listen to a few more of his songs….

Celebrating Life

Last night I pulled many retired sets off my shelf that I wanted to make sure had lots of ink before I say goodbye to them.  The stack was a little overwhelming, but I tackled it.

I have many cards to share with you.  I was on a roll last night.

By the Tide

Celebrating, By the Tide, Stampin' Up!

By the Tide is a stamp set that has not been lonely.  It’s been a well loved set for many many years especially for this beach loving girl.  You can see a few cards I created below.  You may remember a few of them.

I wanted to try a different color combination and I love how it turned out.

Of course I wanted the Lobster to be red, but I didn’t want the red to dominate the entire card.  I used a Sponge Dauber to add the Blushing Bride ink around the center of the lobstah (said in my New England accent!)

Celebrating, By the Tide, Stampin' Up!

I added a few other stamp sets to this card-

Gorgeous Grunge was perfect to add a little texture.

Rose Wonder was perfect for the greeting.  I also love that label framelit that coordinates.

Sadly, the Corrugated White cardstock is on the retired list.  If you love to add texture to your projects, this is definitely a GREAT purchase.  I’ve used the Kraft corrugated more than the white, however it comes in one pack together.  I will definitely miss having this to use.

The last thing I added to this card was a few White Perfect Accents.  These are excellent to add a little bling to a project without the bling bling.  Does that make sense? Ha ha ha!

April Hostess Code, Stampin' Up!

Thanks for letting me spill my guts about Prince.  I do feel like I’m celebrating a music legend.  He had incredible talent.

I’m curious how many other Prince fans are out there.  What was your favorite song? Did you ever see him in concert?

Seeing him in concert was on my bucket list.  Sigh…..

Love you!

XOXOXOXO

Handmade Cards for Him

Handmade Cards for Him

I wish I could say that I made Russ cards often but that’s not really the case.  I’m more of a sticky note kinda girl.  I leave them everywhere with little lovey dovey words and I do the same for my kids. The bathroom mirrors are usually plagued with my sticky notes all the time.

I thought I would shake things up and make him a card instead of a sticky note.

By the Tide

I decided to use a set that hasn’t seen ink in awhile and one that I love, By the Tide.

By the Tide, Stampin' Up!

I’ve used every image in this set except of the Lobster.  When I was looking at accessories to go with this card I giggled when the Winter Wonderland Designer Vellum Pack jumped at me.  This particular piece reminded me of fish net.

While I was at the OnStage event in Tampa I received the Tag a Bag Accessory Kit as a prize.  I haven’t purchased one of these before and for shame for shame.  This little kit is filled with lots of great items.  One of them that made me squeal out loud was the smaller tea doily’s.  I had no idea they were smaller let alone in the kit.  Also, the twine inside this kit is fantastic.

Handmade Cards for Him, By the Tide, Stampin' Up!

You can faintly see the designer paper behind the vellum.  If you look closely you can see polka dots.  I used the Happy Haunting DSP.  It was perfect for this card.

Tips & Tricks-

I used the Itty Bitty Accents Epoxy Stickers on the right side of the card to give the illusion of bubbles.

I stamped the Archival Basic Black ink onto the small strip of Vellum Cardstock.  If I was to re-do this card I would emboss the black ink with Clear Embossing Powder to give it a raised feel and look.

The thank you greeting came from the One Big Meaning stamp set.  Awesome thank you set filled with great images.  Check it out HERE.

You can see all the products I used for this card below.

Adding Texture to a Card

Kimberly Van Diepen, Stampin' Up! Happy Thursday! Today I want to share a card that has numerous textures added.  I love adding different textures to my projects and you can get this effect using many Stampin' Up! products.

The Canvas Creations is one of my new favorite products that I used.  This product tears beautifully, and then to get the fraying on the ends just pull a few strings and you will start to see the fray. When you want to tear a piece of the canvas just make a small cut with your scissors and RIP away. It's easy and a fun stress reliever!

Another great texture to add is the use of Textured Embossing Folders.  I tend to use my favorites such as the Chevron or the Honeycomb embossing folder more frequently, but Stampin' Up! has beautiful ones to choose from.  You can see them HERE.  I added the Chevron Textured Embossing folder to my Pool Party cardstock.

Kimberly Van Diepen, Stampin' Up!

Another great texture to add is the Natural 7/16" Trim Ribbon.  Just like the Canvas Creations, I love to fray the ends.  Again, just pull ONE string and you will see how easy it is to fray.

I love Linen Thread on my cards but for this card I decided to DOUBLE the thread before wrapping it around the card.  This bulked up the thread a little around the card.

Burlap. Oh. Burlap!  It's in, it's trendy and I love it.  I bought an old coffee burlap bag while I was in Orlando in January.  I love the texture of this burlap becasue the weave is more open.  It wasn't easy to cut up, but it sure does add a little fun to a card.  I attached this to the card using my Glue Gun.

The label was cut with my e-Cutter.  I exported the Get it Done punch 2 from My Digital Studio and imported into my e-Cutter.  F.U.N.

Kimberly Van Diepen, Stampin' Up!

You may notice a little Gold Splatter, White Splatter, and Shimmer to the card.  All are great textures to add to the card.  While you may not "feel" this texture it's great texture for the eye.

Kimberly Van Diepen, Stampin' Up!

The White texture was stamped using my March Paper Pumpkin exclusive image.  *love*

The Gold splatter was created from my Gold Smooch Pearlized Accent Ink.  —-> Must HAVE. You will find it on the Clearance Rack for 1.99 HERE.  Uh huh… you read that correctly! That will provide you with a lot of SPLATTER!

My last little detail and texture was adding a few Rhinestones. Love the sparkle that it adds.

Perfectly Matched!

I have big news today. Maybe it's not really really big news but after my debacle the other day with Mr. Swallowtail I was pretty bummed.   My mojo has been in high gear lately until Mr. Swallowtail.  I have another date with him this weekend.  We will be friends!!

Keeping in a positive mood that today's stamping escapade would be a much better experience, I am pleased to report— It was!!!

I found two stamp sets that jived together like Peanut Butter & Jelly.

Kimberly Van Diepen, Stampin Up!

I was already in love with the By the Tide stamp set (129120) and fell in love even more when I paired it with the Perfectly Penned stamp set (122892). I started with my Sent with Love Designer paper and then started layering.  You can see a little of my Paper Doily hanging out.    I used my Top Note die cut which had not seen it's partner Big Shot in a LONG time.

I stamped the coral image and shell with VersaMark Ink and used my Pewter Embossing Powder over it. Look how beautiful that Pewter embossing powder is.  WOW!

I decided I would bedazzle my card just a wee bit more.  At the top of the Top Note you can see the script image stamped in Sahara Sand.  I used my Spritzer Tool and Basic Gray marker to add a "spritz" of color at the top of the Top Note.

*Tip: Remember to hold the spritzer tool higher from your project so you can achieve a better splatter.

Kimberly Van Diepen, Stampin Up!

Because I'm on a BIG Vellum kick right now I decided to stamp my Thank You from Perfectly Penned onto the Vellum and embossed it using the Pewter embossing powder. I used this as my banner and attached to the Top Note die cut by folding the left edge onto the backside of the Top Note.  To make sure that the Vellum stayed in place I attached the Silver Designer button so it laid onto the Vellum and the Top Note die cut.

*NOTE* I used the thread from my Pop Up Posies kit to thread the Silver Designer button.  I tied two knots in the thread to give it that "nautical" look.  Once I attached the Top Note to the card base I wanted to add a little more bedazzle so I added a few rhinestones randomly on the card.  It's just enough sparkle.

Above you will see the same card, just a different pattern of Designer Paper from the Sent with Love DSP.

Hot Trend-Maps!

Kimberly Van Diepen

Every where I turn I see a globe, or world map starring me in the face either on the internet or shopping in town.  I've always had a love affair for world globes and bought one for my kids when they were really young.  I thought it would make them smarter… Ha! Now I'm seeing cool vintage maps used in the MOST creative way and it tickles me pink.  What tickles me MORE pink is the new Designer Paper -This and That Epic Day from Stampin' Up! There is a map pattern with HEXAGONS… I know.  HOLD ME BACK!

Kimberly Van Diepen, Stampin' Up!

I decided to put it to use with another fun stamp set, By the Tide.  I started by using the coral image and stamping it with VersaMark onto the Map Pattern.  The magic occurred when I added a little Gold Embossing powder over the VersaMark.  Subtle.. but it's there.  I stamped my shell in Calypso Coral and cut this image out and added a few strips of pretty ribbon underneath that coordinated.  All of this is layered onto a 2 1/2" Circle punch which is also layered onto the Scallop Circle.  That scallop circle(Gold Brushed Cardstock-OH BEAUTIFUL) is one of my favorites from the Perfect Pennants Die Cut.  Definitely a LOVED die cut.

So far I've enjoyed all the beautiful pieces of the This and That Epic Day Bundle and haven't even started scrapbooking with it yet. It's next.  I have everything laid out and ready. What I love about this product line is the VERSATILITY!  When you can take a product and use it for more than just one type of crafting medium you have a WINNER!  Grab your bundle soon.  While all the products will be available and in our upcoming catalog, the Bundle price is only good until April 30th.
