Creating Your Own Tropical Paradise

Tropical Paradise

I have to admit that I do live in a tropical paradise already.

For years however, I had to create my own tropical paradise.

For instance… a cold winter day I’ve been known to lotion up with a little suntan lotion to smell that paradise.

Not kidding…. sometimes we have to be really creative, right?

Totally Trees

This year Stampin’ Up! is helping me out in creating a tropical paradise with my stamps.

The new Totally Trees stamp set caught my eye with the palm tree image.

Tropical Paradise, Stampin' Up!, Totally Trees

When I started to create this card the Moroccan Designer Series Paper was sitting on my desk from a previous project and the colors in this pattern I chose reminded me of outdoor patio furniture.  It was right then the idea was born…

Tropical Paradise, Stampin' Up!, Totally Trees

I couldn’t help but fall in love with palm tree.  Being from Florida, palm trees are a dime a dozen… and of course pine trees.

To create the perfect green for my palm leaves I dabbed my solid palm image into the Bermuda Bay ink first and then did a light tap into Emerald Envy ink.  Once I stamped it over the palm tree I let out a big “WOW!”  It was the perfect color.

Creating Your Paradise

The truth is, whether it’s a palm tree or a Santa image we are stamping, we create our own paradise when we craft.

Stamping is paradise for crafters.

  • provides peace
  • takes us to a calm, happy place
  • stress reliever
  • brings joy

I look at all of the characteristics above and instantly I think that is paradise.  It’s my personal paradise.  A place that I can enjoy peace.

Now don’t get me wrong… there are times I can feel frustrated in my personal paradise as well.  The times when nothing goes my way when I’m trying to create.  However, it’s still paradise.  It still brings me joy.

A Boy and His Kite

A Boy and His Kite

I can’t tell you the last time I actually flew a kite but after stamping this card I had the itch to find a kite and fly it.

Kite, Stampin' Up!, Stampin' Up! Demo

I pulled out my Happy Home stamp set again and the little boy flying the kite is precious.

If you missed the last card I created with this set you can check it out HERE.  It was more frilly for a girl.

So much cuteness in this set.  I love the small images that create a scene.

Kite, Stampin' Up!, Stampin' Up! Demo

Tips & Tricks

  • I started this card by using stamping the image on Whisper White cardstock and then punching the image with the 2-1/2″ Circle Punch.  The other circles were die cut using the Circles Framelits.
  • The missing you greeting was stapled onto the circle layers to keep it together.
  • The acrylic dots were laying on my desk from a Project Life accessory kit.  I keep a small basket with little trinkets like this that I can find little treasures to use on cards.  They are usually remnants from a kit or something I’ve stamped and didn’t trash.  Love using these little trinkets.
  • The image was colored using a Sponge Dauber for the sky and a Blender Pen for the grass.

If Happy Home is a stamp set you are falling in love with there is still time to purchase.  This set is retiring from the Occasions Catalog on May 31st and will no longer be available.

Travel News

Today I probably wish I was flying a kite.  That’s not happening.  Todays the day I need to have it ALL done.  All the packing, lists for the house sitter, house picked up (HA HA HA-like that is going to happen!)  I feel like I will never accomplish everything on my list, but I’m keeping it ALL real and telling myself that even if I don’t get it all done, we will survive.

Honestly, the hardest part of this has getting things ready for the couple staying in our home.  They have a job let me tell you.  Dogs, cat, Guinea Pigs, and my 150 gallon fish tank.  These poor people.  I feel better that someone will be able to love on the fur babies while we are gone.

The kids are cracking me up.  Brandon cannot contain his excitement.  Alexis, still very excited is only worried about the outfits.

Okay… It’s time for me to finish up the last minute details.  XOXOXO

PS- Coming next week… ALL NEW stamps coming.

PSS- If you have ordered from me this year you should have received a FREE catalog.  If you have not, and you wish to order contact me using the link at the top of this page and I will send you a catalog when I get back.

Quick & Easy- Affectionately Yours Suite

Quick & Easy- Affectionately Yours Suite

Quick & easy and Affectionately Yours…  at first glance you might have stopped for a second and wondered who’s blog you stumbled upon.  LOL.

My title sounds a bit crazy… but so am I so we are all good.

Really, I have a quick and easy card today and it’s using the Affectionately Yours Suite.  It’s NEW.

I’ve been holding out on sharing some of the new products because I feel kinda “na na boo boo” about it.  Does that make sense? This time of year is a struggle for me because I have new products in my hands.  I want to use them.  BUT… there are so many great stamp sets retiring and I want to get a lot of use out of them before they go away.

Ultimately I need about 10 more hours in my day and I could accomplish all things.

Affectionately Yours Suite

Todays card is using a new stamp set called Love & Affection.  At first glance I wasn’t head over heals in love but then I used it.  That’s when the change happens.  It happens all of the time to me.  Suddenly I am in love once the ink hits the stamp and then to the paper.  SHAZAM.  Love!

Affectionately Yours, Stampin' Up!

The designer paper in this suite, Affectionately Yours is beautiful.  It’s a mix of bright colors as well as a few darker tones and COPPER.  The paper I used for this card is one of my favorite prints from the collection.  I love how the blue looks on the craft.

Affectionately Yours, Stampin' Up!

Tips & Tricks

Here are a few tips when creating today’s card using the Love & Affection stamp set.

  • I embossed the large and small flower using Whisper White craft ink with White Embossing Powder onto Vellum cardstock. I placed the same size sheet of Whisper White cardstock (3-1/4 x 4-1/2) under the Vellum.  You can see the yellow hues peeking through the vellum.  To create that look use a sponge dauber and swirl Daffodil Delight ink in a circular motion where the flower centers will lay over.  I just lifted the vellum and made quick ink marks where the centers would lay and then went back to darken the yellow ink.
  • Once the stamping was complete the Vellum/Whisper White cardstock was matted onto a piece of Night of Navy cardstock (3-3/8 x 4-5/8) and popped up using dimensionals.
  • The greeting was stamped onto a Tags & Label framelit and the left side of the label was trimmed off.
  • The new Thick White Bakers Twine is going to be a great addition to our core line of ribbons.

Affectionately Yours, Stampin' Up!

The greetings are very fun in this stamp set but most of all I love the font.  It’s ridiculously amazing.

Affectionately Yours, Stampin' Up!

You can see I also added a little bit of a doily under the label and greeting.  I love how something as simple as a doily can make the entire card look delicate.

What do you think?

Playtime with New Stamps!

Playtime with New Stamps!

Playtime with new stamps couldn’t be any sweeter.  I felt like it was Christmas today when the box arrived.

The only problem was I really had to refrain from tearing into that box as I had other work related things that had to be done.

Now I know exactly how my kids feel when they have something fun and new and can’t play.

I have a fun card to share today and a few more samples from the OnStage event from the product display stampers.  Superb talent from these stampers which I think you will totally enjoy.

Reward Yourself!

Once I had everything caught up (well that’s actually not a word I use often- caught up!) I did tear into the box and I had one stamp set in particular that  I wanted to play with- Marquee Messages.

This is a super fun stamp set and has a retro/vintage appeal.  Right up my alley.

Playtime, Marquee Messages, Stampin' Up!

I flirted with a new In Color….  Can you guess which one?

Flirty Flamingo (SO PRETTY-SO NEW!) is the lightest pink you see on this card (the arrow image).  I love how this pairs with the other colors I used- Pool Party and Watermelon Wonder. The black made everything pop.

Playtime, Marquee Messages, Stampin' Up!

This stamp set has perfect greetings and one greeting that says “Invited”.

Invitations would be super fun to create using this set.

Playtime, Marquee Messages, Stampin' Up!

The main image for this card was created by paper piecing.  I embossed each of the images using Basic Black and Clear Embossing Powder, then fussy cut each of the images and pieced back together.  This was not difficult and I love how the arrow pops.

Playtime, Marquee Messages, Stampin' Up!

The Designer Series Paper that you see is also a new product called Playful Palette.  It’s definitely playful and has great patterns within this DSP pack.

What do you think? Do you like these colors together??

Quick Tricks & Tips

  • Emboss the images by inking your image with VersaMark first, then ink again using Archival Basic Black ink.  Stamp the image onto your cardstock and pour Clear Embossing Powder over the image.
  • The string you see in the top corner is one of my favorites and on the retiring list.  I am so so sad to see this ribbon go.  It’s called 1-1/4″ White Jute Ribbon.  My favorite thing to do with this ribbon is pull the individual threads to use on my cards.  It’s really thick and wraps around in circles easily. Try it and tell me what you think.

Little Moments Matter- Watercolor Wings

Little Moments Matter- Watercolor Wings

It’s always the little moments that matter to me.  Sure, I love big moments too.

It seems like the little moments make me stop, reflect and typically bring me more joy.

Can you relate?

Yesterday was a case in point.

We have a friend that helps us now and then with our big 200 gallon saltwater fish tank.  This tank is truly a piece of happy to me.  It’s also a big job to take care of.  Our water filter system needed new filters and to make a long story short…. this guy came to our rescue. He took the time yesterday to help me with something outside of what I was paying him to do and ultimately that little thing brought me extreme joy.

It didn’t take him long however it was something he had not planned.  He made a difference doing something so little.

Yes, little moments matter.

Watercolor Wings

Watercolor Wings is a beautiful stamp set and I love the greetings that go along with it.  This is one of those sets that makes me smile because it has beautiful greetings and beautiful butterfly images.  SCORE!

Little Moments, Watercolor Wings, Stampin' Up!

I have a new favorite paper I’m playing with right now- Shimmery White Cardstock.  OH so fun and beautiful.

This paper is great for watercolor.

Tips & Tricks

Little Moments, Watercolor Wings, Stampin' Up!

Here are a few tips when creating this card.

  • I did a simple watercolor wash using my Aqua Painter.  To do this simply load your brush with the color of choice and gently go back and forth moving the brush in a downward stroke.  By moving the brush down while moving you will notice a brighter color when you begin and lighter as your brush continues downward.  The shimmery paper gives it a shimmer look when it’s dry.
  • I used Calypso Coral, So Saffron and Pink Pirouette inks
  • The White thread you see coiled behind the greeting is a single strand pulled from the White Jute ribbon.  I love this stuff.  I never seem to use the entire ribbon alone as it tends to be too wide for me to use.  Instead I pull the threads and use them in other ways.

Little Moments, Watercolor Wings, Stampin' Up!

I love the spring colors for this card.  I typically do not use So Saffron for anything so it was nice to pull that color into this card and the best is I really liked it.

These colors just scream soft, delicate and spring.
