Shaking Up a Masculine Card

Shaking Up a Masculine Card

I love to shake things up and today I’m sharing a few masculine cards and one is a shaker card.  YAY!

Plus it’s a beautiful Sunday to share inspiration with my friends at the Creation Station.  Another YAY! YAY!

Masculine, Stampin' Up!, Going Global

Masculine Means….

It’s almost as if I had to lock up my delicate doily selection so I wouldn’t make this masculine card all “pre-ttay!”  It’s not easy friends.  I can slap a doily on any card QUICK.  Today… not so much.

We’ve talked about this before- Masculine cards are not easy.  I have to reset my brain to the right man mode to create for the man.  Sometimes it works and other times these cards are quickly in need of “something” or head to the big creative trash can.

So what does make a great masculine card? My definition would be …

Masculine Card = Any card that does not have a doily on it.

HA HA HA HA!

Let me share my first card!

Lucky Stars

Masculine, Stampin' Up!, Going Global

The Going Global stamp set is perfect for a man.  It has tons of great greetings that any man would love to hear.

The one I’m using today is actually something I say to my Prince.  (BTW- he was actually de-throned after the death of “Prince” and I told him he would just have to go by “my man” for a few weeks while I mourn.)  I do thank my lucky stars for him-REALLY.

The globe just speaks the man language.

Masculine, Stampin' Up!, Going Global

I love how this entire suite coordinates together with the designer paper, embossing folder and images within the set.  Perfect collection—  that is going away.  SO, if you love this collection of products don’t delay.  Get them today.

Tips & Tricks

Here are a couple of tips to create this card:

  • The Globe is embossed using Black Embossing powder then punched using the 2″ Circle punch.  That is matted onto a 2-1/2″ Circle punch (GASP- that’s retiring… no words)
  • The metal stars came from the You’re So Lovely kit.  *FAVORITE KIT!*
  • I tried this new diagonal cut that I’ve seen others doing and I love the stars peeking through the two diagonal cuts.  Kinda fun.

Let’s Get Shakin’

Masculine, Stampin' Up!, Going Global

I don’t typically make shaker cards, however I had a cute little tub of gold star punches from a card I did LONG ago and they were calling my name to be used.  Then I thought how fun would it be to use the big dipper (or is it the little dipper?- Ah- I don’t know, it’s just cute!) and the gold stars together.  Reminded me of falling stars…. sigh.

Masculine, Stampin' Up!, Going Global

In all honesty, I think I overloaded the shaker but it’s really fun and there are lots of stars.  I kinda love that.

Tips & Tricks

  • All images are embossed using Black Embossing Powder.
  • I used a sponge dauber on the compass image to brighten up the cardstock in a few areas.
  • Create easy shaker cards using our Window Sheets (See link below).
  • The Confetti Star Punch makes perfect tiny stars for a shaker card.

Masculine, Stampin' Up!, Going Global

What made this shaker so much easier is the new addition of Foam Strips from Stampin’ Up!  Oh hello.  Thank you Stampin’ Up! These will be available in the new catalog June 1st.

Masculine, Stampin' Up!, Going Global

I think this looks pretty masculine… maybe minus the gems that I had to put on at the last minute.  I couldn’t stand it.  A little Rhinestone never hurt a man… I’m sure.

I hope you enjoyed what I shared today.  Now it’s time to hop along on the hop and see what the Creation Station Designers have in store for us.  Just click the NEXT and BACK buttons to hop along.

Add Interest Using Stampin’ Up! Punches

Add Interest Using Stampin’ Up! Punches

Punches are one of the most used tools in my stamp room and especially my circle punches.

Of course my Big Shot gets a ton of use but punches make my crafting life easy.  Don’t you think?

I really can’t get bored with punches and because I’m such a lazy crafter, punches make my crafting world even more spectacular because they save me time.

What I love is through the years Stampin’ Up! has made it more and more easy for us to create with the wide selection of punches.  While I’m sad to see some of our punches retire, I’m also excited for the new ones that are coming.

Layering Punched Pieces

One of the things I’ve been enjoying with punches is adding depth to a handmade card using multiple layers of a punched image.

I had tried this with a few die cuts recently and then thought – why not a punched image.

Punches, Stampin' Up!, You're So Lovely Kit

Today I grabbed the remaining pieces of my You’re So Lovely kit and put together 9 cards.  I loved all of them but as I was getting near the end of my creative streak, I felt the urge to try something different.

Create It!

Let’s jump in and I’ll share with you how to create the card above and most importantly show you how to create depth using your punches.

  1. Fold your cardstock base in half to create your card.  Using the sponge roller (or you can use a Sponge Dauber) and Dapper Denim ink (coming soon), sponge over the star mask from the You’re So Lovely kit.  *Note* You can rinse the sponge roller under water and squeeze out the water and pat dry and it’s ready to use again.  LOVE!
  2. Stamp congrats and banner image onto the Kraft cardstock label die cut using Basic Black ink. Images from the You’re So Lovely stamp set.
  3. Punch out 10 stars using Star Punch. I used the new InColor- Dapper Denim.  Layer 5 star punches onto one another using Liquid Multipurpose Glue.  Let this dry.
  4. Adhere the stars to the card as seen above.
  5. Add a strand of White Jute ribbon behind the congrats banner.
  6. Add Gold metal stars to card front from the kit.
  7. Enjoy!

Punches, Stampin' Up!, You're So Lovely Kit

You can see how the punched images stacked together create great depth.  I think I will use this as a graduation card.  Perfect for a young male.  Actually, I might give this to Russ.  He retires from the Navy on June 10th.  That’s another story for another day.

Punches, Stampin' Up!, You're So Lovely Kit

Mission Accomplished!

As you can see, I was on a mission yesterday.  I couldn’t let this kit go to waste.  It’s been one of my favorites and I’m a  hoarder.  As I was cleaning and purging yesterday I knew I wanted to finish these.

I Challenge YOU!

I have a pile of stamps I’m getting ready to tackle this weekend for projects.  I am pretty excited to use them because some have not EVER seen ink. Why do I do that???  Let’s challenge each other to create using a stamp set that hasn’t been used OR one that hasn’t seen a lot of ink.  Will you join me?? Share if you do.  I’d love to see.

Have an AWESOME weekend.  XOXOXOXO

Goodbye Open Sea

Goodbye Open Sea

Open Sea has been a well loved stamp set for a long time.  It’s always been my go-to stamp set for a great man card.

Over the years we’ve brought in other great masculine stamp sets, but because my love for the ocean and sea, this set was always top of the list.

Open Sea, Stampin' Up!

Creating Masculine Cards

If you are in need of a great stamp set for creating masculine cards, The Open Sea has great options.

The first thing I loved about this set was the script image.  This gave me more options to use this image for other types of cards and it was a great image for adding texture.

Open Sea, Stampin' Up!

Create It!

  1. Adhere a piece of Whisper White cardstock 4 x 5-1/4 to the Whisper White Thick cardstock base 4-1/4 x 11 using dimensionals.
  2. Adhere a piece of Early Espresso cardstock 3-5/8 x 4-5/8 to the Whisper White cardstock.
  3. Adhere a piece of Vellum Cardstock 3-1/2 x 4-1/2 to a piece of Typeset DSP 3-1/2 x 4-1/2 using Snail Adhesive. Adhere this to the Early Espresso cardstock using dimensionals.  Adhere onto Whisper White cardfront.
  4. Stamp script image using Early Espresso ink onto Sahara Sand cardstock 2-1/2 x 3-1/2. Adhere over Vellum using Snail adhesive.
  5. Stamp Globe using Whisper White Craft ink onto Sahara Sand cardstock scrap.  Emboss using White Embossing Powder and heat with Heat Tool.  Punch image out using 2″ Circle Punch.
  6. Die cut a piece of Vellum and Typeset Designer Series Paper using the Lots of Labels Die cuts. Note the Typeset Label Die Cut is smaller than the Vellum.  Emboss the Happy Birthday image from the Rose Wonder stamp set using Early Espresso ink and Clear Embossing Powder.  Adhere onto cardfront.
  7. Wrap twine (separate a piece of twine from Jute Ribbon) behind Globe image and secure with a glue dot.  Adhere Globe image to cardfront using dimensionals.
  8. Adhere Neutral Candy Dots to the cardfront.
  9. Enjoy!

Retiring Products

This card is filled with many of my favorite products that are on the retiring list.  If you fall in love with it, make sure you get the items quickly.  Here are a few:

  • Neutral Candy Dots
  • Jute Ribbon
  • The Open Sea stamp set
  • Typeset Designer Series Paper

The one product I will miss the VERY most from this card is the Typeset Designer Series Paper.  This paper has been a staple in my stamp room like flour and sugar are in your kitchen.  It was a must have.  I’m not sure how if I can part with hit.

You can see all the products used in the clickable links below.

Masculine cards are not easy for me to create.  My biggest hiccup is keeping anything foo foo off of it.  I was quite surprised when I managed to pull it off with this stamp set.  I love the neutral color combination too.  What do you think?

I hope this inspires you to use this set if you own it.  It’s definitely one that will be missed in my stamp room.

I’m in the process of purging my stamp room.  Oh my WORD.  It’s a disaster.  So much to get rid of.  Hopefully this will be painless process.  I totally need it.

Can You Find Happiness?

Happiness…

I think that everywhere we look we can find happiness in something.  Don’t you?

I say this because even in my darkest of times I still found joy in small things. When I mean small… I mean like really small.  Somedays just getting out of the bed was joy.

I bring this up because I think we tend to focus on to much of the negative and not enough of the positive. Plus, my card inspired the emotions.

Tonight at dinner (9 pm mind you) we finally had the chance to sit at the dinner table together. Our lives with these teenagers keeps the pace on a level that I don’t particularly like but I know it’s a season.

Casual conversation was happening and then all of a sudden we were a family of 4 arguing about the stupidest things.

I continued to eat as the others decided to argue.  Just as casual as the conversation had been I looked up at my family and asked a simple question.

“Does this bring you joy?”

You could of heard a pin drop.

Faces of my children are now long and they could see mom was quite annoyed but I repeated, “Does this bring you joy?”

I proceeded to tell my kids and husband that during dinner it was the one time I had each of them captive to sit and enjoy each other.  Time to ask the little things about the day and how it went.  Arguing was not joyful and despite their better judgement I was sure it was not bringing them joy but tension instead.

In that moment I asked another question. “What brings YOU joy?”

Our conversation changed around the table tonight as we talked about this and the dialogue between the kids and Russ and I turned from ugly to a bit more enjoyable.  This isn’t always the case but I will tell you I was firm in my decision that at my dinner table we would speak kindly and find joy in the small things.

I don’t know where most of you are in your family life but I can bet you have been in this “mama” position I was in tonight.  I will say that raising teenagers is definitely been trying on most days, but I think we are going to survive.

I think.

My Joy

While raising my kids is joyful (let’s be real… they are hormonal teenagers) my joy comes from creating.  I love seeing how people react to something handmade.  It’s happiness for me.

Today I am sharing a little Valentine for my prince.  This is when I love to shower him with tons of cards leading up to Valentines day.  In short it’s my way of showing my love and guilting him a bit.  (just keeping it real!)

It’s also a TGIF Challenge so you can play along too!!

Happiness, Project Life, Stampin' Up!

I decided to pull out my Project Life stash to create this card.  I was so surprised how quickly this came together.

Remember this- if you are in a pinch and need a card, pull out your Project Life stash.

Memories in the Making- Project Life

Happiness, Project Life, Stampin' Up!

I pulled out my latest addition to my Project Life stash- Memories in the Making.  I used the Accessories kit on page 43 of the Occasions Catalog and the Specialty Card Collection that is FREE in the Sale-a-Bration catalog with every $50 order.  See page 8.

Tips & Tricks

I started this card with the Whisper White Thick cardstock.  I love using the thick cardstock for my card bases.

My greeting came from the Accessory Pack and was a 2 x 2 Project Life card.  I simply punched the card using my 1-3/4″ Circle punch.  The Gold Acetate card was die cut using the Circles Framelits.  The acetate is a little too thick for your punch.

The elements were adhered onto the Project Life card and then I added a Basic Black matte to the back of the card to give it a pop of color.

The sweet enamel shapes were a simple addition to also give a pop of color.

Happiness, Project Life, Stampin' Up!

I wanted quick and simple today and that’s exactly what I created.  In the process, I created happiness for myself knowing that my special someone, my Prince will enjoy it.  He really is my HAPPY.

I hope this encourages you in a few ways today.  First, find joy in the small things even when times are tough and you are struggling.  Second, pull out your Project Life stash if you have it.  Use it to capture those memories or make a quick card.  Either way, enjoy the process and find happiness.

Greetings From Stamp Set

I have to share one of my little favorites.  It’s called Greetings From.  It’s a photopolymer stamp set that is so tiny but OH SO CUTE.

Greetings From Stamp Set, Stampin' Up!

I created these using Stampin’ Up!’s Notecards. The texture you see under the images is from a new stamp set called Timeless Textures.  Possibly my new FAVORITE stamp set in the whole wide world.  Indeed.

Look how cute these images are…

The little car is my favorite and perfect to carry a little tree.  I just cut one of the trees and placed it on top of the car using a Mini Glue Dot.   Greetings From Stamp Set, Stampin' Up!

I love this one with the beach scene and of course it would be perfect for little thank you cards for friends around here.

These are simple one layer cards that pack a mighty punch.
Greetings From Stamp Set, Stampin' Up!

Another favorite image in this set is the bike.  I love bike images and this one is the cutest little guy.  Next to the cactus… can it be any sweeter?

Coloring of these cards was simple using an ink pad and Blender Pen.  Blender Pens are essential to a stamp room.  A Blender Pen makes coloring an image simple the smooth way they blend.  If you are just starting out in stamping, try a blender pen for simple blending of color.

The sentiments for each of these notecards came from a stamp set in the Holiday Catalog called Happy Scenes.  I love the greetings because they are small enough to fit on a 1/4″ strip of cardstock.

One last thing…

I have to share a little excitement.

I’ve been a member of Splitcoast Stampers for YEARS.  Almost 12 years to be exact.  Years ago I was one of their gallery moderators.  I had to leave once Russ started moving us around a bit more than I wanted as well my business had taken off.  I’ve always loved sharing on Splitcoast and viewing the gallery for inspiration.  It was my starting point to inspiration on the internet.

Today I received an email that I was a Featured Stamper on Splitcoast.  Ya’ll.  For REAL!  I was SO excited.  More excited to see what the other stampers are inspired to create from my gallery.  WOW.
