Post Thanksgiving Coma and Falling Flowers

Post Thanksgiving Coma and Falling Flowers

Thanksgiving has passed but my food coma hasn’t.

The day was incredible with a house full of family, a ton of food and then mapping my Black Friday shopping.

Friday started my whirlwind weekend.  I thought Thanksgiving prep was tough… ha!

We ran hard on Friday morning all the way to the afternoon and then headed downtown to watch Alexis participate in a parade.

She was an awesome snowflake tumbler and the parade was fantastic.  We watched the city lights turn on downtown and it was  quite magical!

While the weekend was filled with amazing adventures, my office is calling my name and I’m excited to share a bundle of beautiful cards today.

Hope you bare with me as I take a small break from the Christmas cards and share a load of florals that I’ve fallen in love with.

Falling Flowers

While I was in Atlanta I was honored to present at Brian Kings local demonstrator event.  I shared two sets of cards both using some of my favorite accessories to embellish cards.

Today I’m sharing the first bundle using the Falling Flowers stamp set.

A couple of things you will notice about these cards…

  • All of them have the same color combinations with a few added colors here and there.
  • Each card has a technique.  You will see the technique name under each card.
  • You will notice my love for embellishments.  These are simple, inexpensive ways to add layers to a card.

Decorative Masks

Falling Flowers, Stampin' Up!

This card uses two techniques:

  • Decorative Masks – simply lay the decorative mask over a piece of Watercolor Paper, use an Aqua Painter to add color only in the area of the Decorative mask.  Notice it’s not perfectly colored, it’s more of a splash of colors creating a fun background.
  • Reverse Embossing- emboss a flower onto Vellum Cardstock, die cut using the May Flowers Framelits. Then on the reverse side, lay the Vellum onto a mouse pad, use a stylus to press into the open areas of the floral image.  When you turn it over you will notice the area turns white and looks 3D.

Other embellishments that I loved to use on this card:

  • The scallops were die cut using the Layering Squares Framelits.  I simply cut an edge and use it to layer on a card.
  • Delicate White Doilies
  • Pearls… they make any card delicate and pretty.

Emboss Resist

Falling Flowers, Stampin' Up!

Emboss resist is a technique that I’ve always loved.  I love how it looks on Watercolor Paper.  I embossed the beautiful filigree image onto the Watercolor Paper using White Embossing Powder, then watercoloring over the embossing using Sweet Sugarplum.

Because Falling Flowers does not have greetings with this stamp set, I used the Perfectly Wrapped Photopolymer stamp set.  It was perfect for these cards.

Another fun product I love to use-Enamel Shapes.  They come in a ton of colors and always a perfect addition for any project.

Splatter & Twine

Falling Flowers, Stampin' Up!

Two ways I layer my cards LOTS… splatter created using my Aqua Painter and any color from my ink pads and my favorite thread from the 5/8″ Burlap Ribbon.  Oh my word I love this ribbon when you separate the threads.  It’s a must try.

Other things I love to add to my cards- Sequins.  I have them in little saucers on my table always ready to use.  The Fine-Tip Glue Pen is the perfect adhesive to adding these sequins.

Tone on Tone Embossing

Falling Flowers, Stampin' Up!

If you are looking to create quick elegance on a card, try stamping and embossing with clear embossing powder for a tone on tone look.  I love how this looks on the Whisper White.  Pure elegance when you see it and super simple to create.

I love how these tiny pearls add to the elegance of the card.

Overall, each of the cards have fun layers and embellishments added to each one.

A Few Secrets…

Can I tell you a little secret when it comes to creating cards with layers?  It’s not hard, and it’s not time consuming.

Another secret…. many times my cardstock layers are attached with a stapler.  This always saves me time and my layers always stay in place.

I realize that Stampin’ Up! will not carry our beloved stapler anymore, but friends… you can still use it.  It’s a GREAT tool and by far one that I use almost every single day.

I love to help spark your creativity.

  1. Absolutely gorgeous cards. Maybe you can find the time to do those two techniques on video 🙂

  2. Each card is gorgeous as always! I love the decorative mask watercolor background, that seems like such a simple and fun way to add an interesting background!
