Have you noticed an increase in the Plaid movement? Little by little I am seeing more and more plaid shine through the paper crafting world.
In fact, I was at Target last night trying not to spend all Russ’ money when I spotted some new plaid long sleeve shirts. I was instantly drawn to them. They had all kinds of pretty colors, all plaid.
I came home and instantly thought about the plaid Stampin’ Up! has in a few pieces of Designer Series Paper. It became a design challenge for me. I needed to stretch my creativity and see what I could do with plaid.
When I started designing this card it was late. Honestly, the bed was calling my name but I had a bit of paper crafting energy that I needed to let go of. BUT… the project needed to be simple.
On my desk I have a basket of misfits. It’s the basket that all my little pieces of things I didn’t use on a card go. For instance, the leaf on this card was already die cut and colored. I used the Leaflets Framelits Dies (oh my word these are AMAZING!) It was in the basket along with the Grateful die cut because I didn’t use it on a project. As I was thumbing through my pile of misfits I was so happy to come across these two pieces. It was a perfect match. The funny part is every piece of this card came from the misfit pile. SERIOUSLY!
The watercoloring for this card was quite simple. I used Watercolor paper and Gold embossed the leaf directly onto the paper using VersaMark ink. Once embossed, the water moved perfectly within the embossed area. I love this simple watercoloring technique.
I added a bit of Burlap ribbon and decided to unravel it a bit. To keep my die cut “grateful” in place I stapled it to the burlap. Works perfectly every time.
My plaid designer paper comes from the Happy Haunting Designer Series Paper. Love this paper and especially this plaid design.
I hope I have inspired you to use some plaid… or maybe even shop the trendy plaid. Keep your eyes peeled to what’s out there. I can tell you plaid is making a come back.
XOXOXOXO

Very fun card! I LOVE that you used plaid, and you are right, it is coming back on trend for sure! Lighthearted Leaves is one of my favorite sets, and I love your showcase of it!
