Favorite Season, Stampin' Up!

It’s a blog hop with the Be Inspired team and I’m super excited because our project centers around our favorite season.  This was SUPER easy for me… HELLO SUMMER!

Okay, truth be told I love something about every season.  Summer holds a special place in my heart because I’m a beach girl and I love to be warm!  I’ve spent many years in cold weather areas and I tend to enjoy the warmer climates especially Florida!

My project was inspired by fun summer days and one of my favorite stamp sets, Day at the Beach.

Favorite Season, Stampin' Up!

Let’s Create!

Favorite Season, Stampin' Up!

One of my favorite things about the Day at the Beach stamp set is the open beach images.  They are perfect to color using any of your favorite coloring mediums.

Here are a few Quick Tips to create this card:

  • I started this card by beginning with my Watercolor Paper.  First, I used Pool Party ink and an Aqua Painter to create a watercolored area in the center of the paper.  I heat set with my heat tool to speed up the drying time.
  • Next, I embossed the sun image with VersaMark ink and White Embossing Powder down the right side of the paper. This has become one of my favorite design techniques.  I love the look of embossing on Watercolor Paper.
  • To create the letters, I used the Large Letters, Framelits Dies.  I used Watercolor Paper to die cut and then watercolored each letter using Lemon Lime Twist ink.  I added small drops of watery ink to add more emphasis to my letters.  Once again, I heat set the letters for two reasons.  First, I wanted to speed up the drying time.  Second, when I add drops of ink, the heat tool moves the water in different directions and gives the paper a unique look.

Finish It!

  • I stamped the sunglasses using Archival Basic Black ink onto Shimmery Cardstock.  Shimmery Cardstock is a fun cardstock to use for water coloring.  Once the image was colored, I fussy cut. I stapled the glasses to the last letter and added a piece of twine.
  • The word summer was stamped from the Project Life Date It stamp set (AWESOME stamp set, by the way!).  I simply stamped the image using VersaMark ink and heat embossed using White Embossing Powder onto Basic Black cardstock. Once embossed, I used my Paper Snips to cut as close to the edge as possible.  I attached the greeting using a dimensional.
  • Once I had finished embellishing the watercolor paper, I attached it to a piece of Pop of Pink DSP using dimensionals and then onto a piece of Whisper White Thick Cardstock.
  • I wanted to make sure that Lemon Lime Twist popped on the card. By simply adding a 1/4″ strip of the Lemon Lime Twist cardstock across the Watercolor Paper, it was complete.

Don’t Forget the Splatter!

Probably one of the biggest questions I get asked in relation to the cards I create is how to create the splatter effect.

Here are a few tips:

  • Load your Aqua Painter with ink.  Using your bone folder, tap gently over selected area that you want to create splatter.  The harder you tap, the more ink will splatter.  I highly recommend tapping over a “throw away” surface before trying this on your own card.  Get the feel of how light or hard you need to tap.
  • Another way to achieve splatter is by taking your finger through the brush once loaded with ink. I’m not a particular fan of this way of adding splatter because of the mess it creates.  Although I don’t use this technique, it works.
  • My biggest tip- Don’t OVER splatter.  You can make a card really ugly very quick by over doing it.  A little goes a long way.
