Christmas Colors – Favorites

Christmas Colors – Favorites

Why am I always trying to get away from the traditional Christmas Colors?

Red and Greens?

They are not bad colors, but I find myself completely drawn to something else.  Do you?  What colors do you find yourself reaching for when creating a Christmas or Holiday card?

I sat down the other night and created this card using the Joyful Season stamp set and I’m in love with this bird.  For whatever reason I couldn’t bring myself to use any greens at all.  I decided to create something with blue! ?? I even went a step further… I created a blue cardinal.

Oh dear!

Sometimes I think my mind wanders when I create and while I do love the traditional colors for most things I also love the freedom of creating anything I want in any color I want.

My mind quickly goes to more vintage Christmas Colors such as the ones I chose.

While my bird might be a little off in color, this is where the imagination takes off and I let myself just CREATE.  I decided that my bird hit a snow bank and is now covered in ice. <smile> Poor chilly bird.

When I created this card there was one magical feature I was excited about the most and it had nothing to do with Christmas colors.  That scalloped burlap had me jumping for joy in my stamp room all by myself.  I’ve been mourning my scallop edge punch and was pretty excited when I found a treasured scallop edge in the Cutie Pie Framelits.  For REAL.  It was a celebration!!

Quick Tips:

To keep the burlap and the lace together, I did a quick stitch with my sewing machine across the two ribbons and the Typeset DSP. If stitching is not something you are able to do OR want to do, Multipurpose Tombow Glue is perfect for this.  It’s like a sewing machine in a bottle.

The bird was stamped using Pool Party ink and I stamped it 3 times to get the desired color I wanted. I love how he sits on the branch.  SO pretty. The color that brought this card all together was the Bermuda Bay cardstock base.  Oh man, this color is just amazing.

What is your favorite?

While using reds and greens for Christmas colors is totally fine, I hope this inspires you to use your imagination and just create with ease. Remember to enjoy the process, that’s IS what is important.

Joyful Season has become a favorite stamp set of mine because of the versatility with this set.  I am hoping this is one set they keep around as I can see Spring birds in my future. Don’t you?
