Be Inspired- Inside The Lines

Be Inspired, Inside the Lines, Stampin' Up!

We all know that inspiration can be found everywhere when it comes to paper crafts. Today, that inspiration is coming from the Be Inspired Design Team, and you may have just hopped here from Carolynn’s blog.  Our theme today is Sale-a-Bration, which means a FREE product for every $50 purchase from Stampin’ Up!

Inside the Lines Designer Series Paper

I am sure as a paper crafter you might be aware of the popular new craze called adult coloring books.  While I am sure they have been around forever, this girl who lives under a rock discovered them last fall.

When I found them at a local craft store I instantly did not think of myself using them, but more so for my daughter who loves to color.  However, the images in these coloring books were breathtaking, and it did look fun.

Fast forward to our new Sale-a-Bration catalog and what do my eyes see? Yes, a designer paper just waiting to be colored.

The Inside the Lines Designer Series Paper leaves you with the opportunity to make the colors of each paper your own.

Be Creative and Color

To my surprise, I ended up loving each of these cards, and I am eager to share them with you.

The creative process started with only taking 1 of each of the four designs and cutting each 12 x 12 designer paper to 4″ x 5-1/4″.

Each card is colored using a different tool such as the following:

  • Sponging
  • Watercoloring
  • Sponge Daubers
  • Markers

You will notice that each method of coloring provided a different look to the designer paper and gave more insight on how the paper would hold up using each of these tools.  While each card is different, they are very simple with only a few additional layers of embellishments.  All of the greetings came from one stamp set, Suite Sentiments.

Let’s see how this paper comes to life.

First, let’s take a look at how a simple sponge can create a beautiful look to this card.

Be Inspired, Inside the Lines, Stampin' Up!

I sponged the leaves with Garden Green and Pear Pizzaz Classic Ink.

After I had sponged the leaves, I only fussy cut the image and layered onto another piece of the designer series paper.

Next, stamp the greeting from the Suite Sentiments stamp set onto a Lots of Labels framelit dies.

Watercoloring on designer series paper added an entirely new appreciation for this beautiful paper.

Quick Tips:

  • I used an Aqua Painter to color the flower using Daffodil Delight and Tangerine Tango Classic Ink.
  • Heat set the paper using a Heat Tool.
  • Due to the watercolor, you might notice the paper will wrinkle. Use Fast Fuse adhesive so that the paper will lay flat onto the card base.

Sponge Daubers

This next card uses one of my favorite sponging tools, Sponge Daubers.

Be Inspired, Inside the Lines, Stampin' Up!

Rather than using the entire sponge to color the images as I utilized in the first card, the Sponge Dauber highlighted the flowers all over the paper using Crushed Curry Classic Ink.

The leaves were colored using Pear Pizzaz Ink and an Aqua Painter.  Finally, to finish the card, I added the greeting with a few die cuts and ribbon.

Last, but certainly not least I used markers to color the images.

One of the greatest coloring tools you will find in the Stampin’ Up! product line is the Many Marvelous Markers.  What sets these markers apart from any other marker is the color coordination with all of Stampin’ Up! products.

Be Inspired, Inside the Lines, Stampin' Up!

I used the brush tip of the marker and quickly colored the flower using Daffodil Delight, Pear Pizzaz, and Tangerine Tango.

Be Inspired, Inside the Lines, Stampin' Up!

A few things to note about each of the four cards:

  • All the colors coordinate together.
  • The coloring techniques only highlight a piece of the designer series paper.
  • Each card uses a greeting from the same stamp set, Suite Sentiments.
  • Embellishments are simple pieces of ribbons or doilies.

Crafting with the Inside the Lines Designer Series Paper brought back great memories of coloring in color books all the while creating beautiful cards.  This product will not disappoint and will provide hours of crafting enjoyment.

Leave a comment and tell me which card catches your eye the most.

Color Makes Me Happy

Color Makes Me Happy

I’m stuck on a color combo that makes me so happy right now.

It has taken me almost a year to fall in love with the color Watermelon Wonder.  No clue why this has happened, but it’s not a color that my hand reached for.  Now I’m stuck using it and trying other color combinations that make me smile.

One that’s been rocking my world is Watermelon Wonder, Calypso Coral, and Hello Honey.  Oh dear!

It screams Spring or even Summer.  Fruity.  Happy.

I can think of many more emotions it’s causing… but you get my drift.

Home Sweet Home

Color, Happy Notes, Stampin' Up!, Stampin' Up! Demo

I think this card pulls my happy strings for a couple of reasons…

  • bright fun circles
  • the colors

I used the same set that I used this past Friday, Happy Notes.  You can see it HERE.

I used the same technique I used on the previous card as well.

Color, Happy Notes, Stampin' Up!, Stampin' Up! Demo

Tips & Tricks

  • Use a Sponge Dauber to apply the following inks to the car image: Watermelon Wonder, Calypso Coral, Hello Honey.
  • Punch circles from the coordinating cardstock using the following punches: 1″, 1-1/4″ and 1-3/8″.
  • Attach punched circles all over the Whisper White cardstock using Snail adhesive.  Trim the edges to create a clean edge.
  • Splatter over the stamped image was created using an Aqua Painter and the Gold Wink of Stella Brush.

Life Updates…

Before I close today I thought I’d let you in on a few things going on in the Van Deep in Trouble household.  Things have been BUSY and only going to get busier in the coming weeks.

In the weeks to come we have exciting things happening but it’s all slightly overwhelming too.

The first big news…

We are leaving in a couple weeks for our big Mediterranean Cruise and extending to see London and Paris.  The excitement is taking our children with us.  The kids have been counting down the days and I’m looking at the calendar in panic.

I wish I could be organized and have all my ducks in a row before I leave but the truth is I’m going to be doing good to make sure everyone has underwear packed.  Last week I ran around like a lunatic trying to get work caught up and while I made a little progress…. it’s not even close to where I’d like to be.  Nothing unusual really.

On Sunday after a wonderful church service and dinner with my family celebrating all the mothers in our family I came home and planted my tush on my couch.  4 hours later… my hair a matted mess…  I woke up.  I said Happy Mothers Day to myself and then was a little mad at myself for wasting 4 hours of my Sunday knowing there is so much to do.  But ya know what, this is how I roll.  I get my panties in a bunch when I have a long list of to-do’s and find myself spinning my wheels and nothing getting done because I am tired. A 4 hour nap can help anyone from being tired.  <grin>

Not only do we have this big trip coming, but the Prince is retiring from the Navy on June 10th.

This is such an exciting time for Russ, but it also comes with a lot of uncertainty.  What next?

I can’t even go there right now otherwise I won’t be able to see what I’m typing.

Yes, it will be okay.  It will be different.  The Navy has been good to us.  Things were much different 3 years ago.  Our future was different.  God had a different plan and it’s one that we will trust. I’ll chat more on this soon.  It’s been a long process and bittersweet for my Prince.

Russ and I didn’t feel like June was busy enough so we tossed in a Mission trip to Kentucky at the end of June as well.

See, it’s all great stuff.  Now to let it all play out and I can come back and tell you about it.

So, the list of things to do are long.  My big idea is to blog while I’m away…  just know that my big ideas don’t always play out that way.  I know others are so organized and blog ahead… well…. Kimberly is not organized. There ya have it.  It might happen… it might not.  I’ll re-visit this as the time gets closer.

Meanwhile, I have been a stamping machine so be on the lookout for some fun ideas coming your way.

Best News of Today

I can’t help it… I have to share.  Brandon turned 15 today.  15!  15!!!!!!

Where has the time gone?

Color, project-life, Stampin' Up!

Ya’ll have watched this kid grow up and I’ll tell you, he just keeps getting sweeter.  Yes, he has his moments.  In fact he had a few last week.  He ended 14 as any teenager should… being a quirky teenager.  Overall, I am so proud of this kiddo and he just melts this mama’s heart every day.  While he is quickly growing up before my eyeballs, he still needs to be told to shower and longer than 2 minutes.  He still loves to play and work is an afterthought.  He still gives his mama kisses and hugs in public and for that I’m grateful.  His sense of humor cracks me up and he always knows how to bring a smile to my face.  He is Brandon.  My Brandon.  He’s 15.  Sigh…

Thank you for letting me spill my guts tonight.  I think I’m feeling a little emotional along with being overwhelmed.  Retirement, children getting older… so many amazing things happening.  You always seem to listen to my rants, raves and cries.  You are all very special and I appreciate you taking the time to read. I really do.

Christmas Colors – Favorites

Christmas Colors – Favorites

Why am I always trying to get away from the traditional Christmas Colors?

Red and Greens?

They are not bad colors, but I find myself completely drawn to something else.  Do you?  What colors do you find yourself reaching for when creating a Christmas or Holiday card?

I sat down the other night and created this card using the Joyful Season stamp set and I’m in love with this bird.  For whatever reason I couldn’t bring myself to use any greens at all.  I decided to create something with blue! ?? I even went a step further… I created a blue cardinal.

Oh dear!

Christmas Colors, Joyful Season Stamp Set, Stampin' Up!

Sometimes I think my mind wanders when I create and while I do love the traditional colors for most things I also love the freedom of creating anything I want in any color I want.

My mind quickly goes to more vintage Christmas Colors such as the ones I chose.

While my bird might be a little off in color, this is where the imagination takes off and I let myself just CREATE.  I decided that my bird hit a snow bank and is now covered in ice. <smile> Poor chilly bird.

Christmas Colors, Joyful Season Stamp Set, Stampin' Up!

When I created this card there was one magical feature I was excited about the most and it had nothing to do with Christmas colors.  That scalloped burlap had me jumping for joy in my stamp room all by myself.  I’ve been mourning my scallop edge punch and was pretty excited when I found a treasured scallop edge in the Cutie Pie Framelits.  For REAL.  It was a celebration!!

Christmas Colors, Joyful Season Stamp Set, Stampin' Up!

Quick Tips:

To keep the burlap and the lace together, I did a quick stitch with my sewing machine across the two ribbons and the Typeset DSP. If stitching is not something you are able to do OR want to do, Multipurpose Tombow Glue is perfect for this.  It’s like a sewing machine in a bottle.

The bird was stamped using Pool Party ink and I stamped it 3 times to get the desired color I wanted. I love how he sits on the branch.  SO pretty. The color that brought this card all together was the Bermuda Bay cardstock base.  Oh man, this color is just amazing.

What is your favorite?

While using reds and greens for Christmas colors is totally fine, I hope this inspires you to use your imagination and just create with ease. Remember to enjoy the process, that’s IS what is important.

Joyful Season has become a favorite stamp set of mine because of the versatility with this set.  I am hoping this is one set they keep around as I can see Spring birds in my future. Don’t you?

TGIF Time- Color Challenge

TGIF Time- Color Challenge

I know I am WAY WAY WAY past due on an update here so I will update in a separate post.

I’ve been a bad girl and haven’t stamped in awhile… and I’m way out of the loop on designing for the TGIF design team.  I am very very sorry about that.  Again, I’ll explain in my next post.

I finally placed a new catalog order and waited patiently (one day- couldn’t stand it!) for my order to arrive.  The excitement I felt when seeing my new toys was overwhelming for TWO reasons.

1. I haven’t been excited to do ANYTHING so having that feeling was AMAZING!
2. Stamps, Stamps, Stamps!  Hallelujah!

Once I got that precious package in the door and opened the box…. I squealed.

Then a complete re-organziation of my craft room happened.  AHHHHH!

Are you like that? Here I have new toys and I felt the overwhelming feeling of clean out city.  That took forever and now my stamp room has piles ALL over of things that need to GO GO GO.

But then I grabbed my new sets and finally created.

Luckily I get to start with a color challenge to get me back in my game and these colors are LOVELY!!

I used the Awesomely Artistic stamp set.  Isn’t this a gorge set?? Oh my WORD!

Awesomely Artistic stamp set, Stampin' Up!

Awesomely Artistic stamp set, Stampin' Up!

Yes, a bit of fussy cutting but friends… details.  I love the layers and details.
I did pull out the sewing machine too.  My allergies went a little crazy too as I swept the dust bunnies away.  Eek.

Awesomely Artistic stamp set, Stampin' Up!

The little vintage buttons are a new product too.  Loving them and especially with the new Very Vanilla Bakers Twine.  YUMMO!!
