Just Breathe-Colorful Seasons

Just Breathe-Colorful Seasons

I had a wonderful Mother’s day weekend despite a few events.  I’m not sure I’d call it relaxing but definitely enjoyed my kids this weekend.   I created this card for a swap and honestly, I think I’m going to frame it as a reminder to do this more and clearly after this weekend.

Colorful Seasons, Stampin' Up!

Russ is on a trip with his parents to Disney World.  Honestly, thank God he is there with them, more on that in a minute.  They took off earlier last week and my first thought was, lots of stamping time.  Well, wishful thinking maybe.

The Weekend

Friday night I was so tired I felt like a limp vegetable laying on my couch.  I had zero energy.  The great week had finally caught up with me.   Saturday I decided to test drive cars since we are in the market for one.  I had no idea that would turn out to be an all day affair but it was.

Sunday I spent at church and then with family all day only to come home to no Air Conditioning.  The house was 84 degrees.  Needless to say, the kids and I were panting.  Thankful for my parents as they came to my rescue, but it was a no go.  It was broke and we had to wait until Monday.  It was time to pull a few fans out.

I was sitting on the couch trying to find a cool spot… Brandon says, “Mom, now don’t worry, it’s going to be okay and it felt good… but there is no hot water when I took a shower!” WHAT? FOR REAL?

I called Russ to help me light the pilot light on the water heater. Yes, I’m a wimp.  Yes, I don’t like lighting that stupid thing.  After he walked me through it I thought for sure I was going to blow up the house.  UGH.  Poor Russ…

Seriously.. the man is gone a few days and everything breaks.  Just breathe, Kimberly.

Monday Comes

I looked over at this card laying on my desk and thought to myself… it’s Monday… just breathe.  You know that I normally love Mondays.  It’s my fresh start.  It was a fresh start alright.

Colorful Seasons, Stampin' Up!

Monday clearly started with calling the AC company to come rescue us from a VERY hot house.  For the most part, my Monday was heading in the right direction.

Russ texted me fairly early from Disney and told me his mother had fallen in the hotel.  Somehow she tripped and fell on her face, literally.  Unfortunately, she hit so hard she broke her nose.  This became complicated because the bleeding wouldn’t stop and they had to take her to the ER.  Because she is on a blood thinner, AND she hit her head my poor Mother in Law was admitted to the hospital. ICU.  They needed to reverse the blood thinner and watch her for any more bleeding.  The last update she was resting, and very sad this had messed up her Disney trip. This was really on her bucket list.

Not only was I telling myself to just breathe, I was telling Russ the same thing.

As Monday progressed, and a few other things occurred, I had to put it all in perspective.  Luckily the air conditioner was a minor repair and the house was cooled.  The water heater is working and most importantly, my mother in law didn’t have any major bones broke.  Praise God for that! I sat again last night in a vegetative state from the busy day and I couldn’t help but thank God Russ was with his parents. It was the exact reason he went with them.

Just breathe!

Colorful Seasons, Stampin' Up!

I can’t tell you how many times I sit and feel guilty for not getting everything done in a timely fashion or on my schedule.  I am so glad I had this card sitting on my desk.  It’s absolutely the best reminder.  Life is MESSY! I need to remember to just breathe because let’s face it.. it will all work out.

Card Details

I won’t leave you hanging about this card and the AMAZING stamp set this is.  The Colorful Seasons stamp set I believe will be one of the most popular stamp sets for this catalog year. Here are a few reasons why:

  • All 4 seasons have images and the coordinating Seasonal Layers Thinlits is perfect to eliminate any fussy cutting with 17 dies included.  I love the scalloped edge.  Look how beautiful that is!!
  • It’s all about the details.  This stamp set, available June 1st or now for new demonstrators has incredible details. Detailed snowflakes and leaves that you will enjoy.
  • I’m a sucker for good greetings and this set caught my eye right away wtih the beautiful just breathe image.
  • You will notice I used two new In Colors, Tranquil Tide and Lemon Lime Twist.  That tiny pop of Lemon Lime Twist brings a smile to my face.

I’m happy to tell you this stamp set and the coordinating thinlits will be a bundle, which means you can save 10%.

Just Breathe!

Colorful Seasons, Stampin' Up!, Just Breathe

I realize the weekend and my Monday didn’t go as planned, but today is a fresh start to a new day.  I’m sure something esle will not go as planned.  This is life.  My goal for today is to stamp a few pretty things and to relax and meditate on my favorite new greeting- Just Breathe!

What is your goal for the week? For today? How do you handle when things get messy?

Lastly, will you keep my mother in law in prayer?  I’ll update once I know more.

Be the Light of Hope- High Tide Stamp Set

Be the Light of Hope

The High Tide stamp set was another stamp set I couldn’t live without.

Probably the number one reason I love the High Tide stamp set so much is due to the greetings.  In our culture today, encouraging words are needed and we have the ability to send them.

Light of Hope, High Tide stamp set, Stampin' Up!

Create Hope

The High Tide stamp set not only has encouraging greetings, the scenes that you can create are endless.

Light of Hope, High Tide stamp set, Stampin' Up!

This set has fantastic images.   Can you see why I love these encouraging words?

Instantly when thinking about a lighthouse, I think about being a light to others.  Just like the light from the lighthouse, it helps steer you in the right direction.  I believe these encouraging words can steer someone towards hope.

Light of Hope, High Tide stamp set, Stampin' Up!

Tips & Tricks

The high tide stamp set is a two-step stamp set. There are two lighthouse images. While each could be used alone, the detail of the lighthouse really comes through when using the two-step technique.

  • To help line up the images perfectly, it helped to stamp the more detailed lighthouse image first.  When stamping the bold lighthouse image, I stamped off the ink first and then over the detailed lighthouse.
  • Stamp the images onto Whisper White cardstock (4″ x 4-3/4″). Stamp the scene first which includes the seagrass, birds, and beach sand, then stamp the lighthouse onto a Whisper White scrap piece.  Once you have stamped the lighthouse, fussy cut using your Paper Snips.
  • The greeting was stamped onto a Whisper White cardstock scrap, then die cut using the Stitched Shapes Framelits.  These framelits will be back in my Online Store on January 16th.  Mark your calendar.

Stamp it, Send it!

We can create all the beautiful cards in the world, however, if the cards are piling up in your stamp room they are not being utilized to their ability.

I’m encouraging you to send a few cards of hope to those around you that need to see the light.  Let them know you care.

Regardless of being a fan of lighthouses or not, the High Tide stamp set is a ray of sunshine to any stamping collection because of the greetings alone.

Big News!

Also, I have big news.  Are you ready for Valentines Day? I shared a really fun project using the Sealed with Love bundle on the Stampin’ Up! blog and I hope you will check it out.  It’s kinda a secret and hopefully, the Prince doesn’t get wind of it.  Be Inspired, Click HERE.

5 Stamps Every Stamper Should Own

5 Stamps Every Stamper Should Own

Stamps? Just 5 you say Kimberly?

Well, I could give you a list of 500 because I’m sure that’s the amount that my stamp room has seen over the years- or more….

I want to keep the list to 5 stamp sets because I’m narrowing it down to the new Occasions catalog.

Now this wasn’t easy but it’s a question I get asked a TON.  What would I choose if I could only choose 5 stamps and why? I’ve linked a sample that’s been created with all of them but one.

My Top 5 Stamps and Why!

  1. Enjoy the Little Things (Page 33)  This stamp set not only has fun greetings that are great for any occasion card, it also has sweet small images that are perfect for simple cards.  The two border stamps are perfect for stamping on your cards as well as the envelope.  This also coordinates with a Project Kit that anyone could enjoy.  It’s my Top favorite and perfect if you are a brand new stamper. I have created a card below that you can see as well as this card HERE.
  2. Rose Wonder (Page 18)  If you are looking for versatility, look no further.  This stamp set covers marriage, sympathy, birthday, thank you, blessings and even a scripture verse. This one stamp set is perfection for any project or card.  The gorgeous rose, leaf and small flower can be stamped simply for a new stamper or stepped up for the advanced stamper. Think about watercoloring, paper piecing, glitter, embossing.  This set would be beautiful with anything done to it.  With the matching Rose Garden Thinlits Dies this makes your crafting easier as you will not have to fussy cut anything.  SCORE!  Here is a card I created using this set HERE.
  3. Number of Years (Page 11) Stampers or scrapbookers will love this set for paper crafting.  No more searching for the numbers you need for a birthday card.  They are right at your finger tips and have the matching framelits-Large Numbers Framelits Dies.  This set covers birthdays, Anniversaries, and even has a few flowers in the mix.  It’s also perfect for keeping your memories alive for children grade school years captured.  This is definitely versatile and practical for the amount of use you can get out of it.  I see teacher projects and many birthday cards created with this stamp set.
  4. Balloon Celebration (Page 12) I chose this stamp set not only for the fun balloons but one of the greetings captured my heart, “Come, Let us sit together and drink”.  Along with this comes Coffee, Hot Chocolate, Champagne greetings.  Why do I love this? It’s about gathering people together.  Enjoying the fellowship of others.  THIS I love.  Have you ever wanted to gather new friends but wasn’t sure how? This is a perfect stamp set to create an invite.  The bonus is the stars, clouds, balloons.  There is a lot of life to this set and one you can use for a long time.  Here is a card I created using this set HERE.
  5. Timeless Textures (Page 29) You’ve heard of love at first sight, right? That happened when I laid eyes on this set. I always look at a stamp set and ask how many projects can I see myself creating with it.  The answer for this one is ENDLESS.  I could possibly use this stamp set on every project I create.  It’s perfect for texture to a card, the splatter stamp is just the perfect size and the coffee stain image is PERFECTION.  Here is a card I created using this set HERE and HERE.

These are just 5 of the stamps I think stampers should have in their stash from the Occasions catalog.  There are many more I could list but if you are a new stamper, or advanced stamper these would meet your needs.

Stamps, Enjoy the Little Things, Stampin' Up!

Enjoy the Little things is a gentle life reminder that I love.  I know I could use this card framed on my desk to remind me to enjoy the little things.  Life is short.

Stamps, Enjoy the Little Things, Stampin' Up!

My favorite embellishment on this card is the ribbon.  It’s been awhile since I used a lot of Seam Binding ribbon and one of the things I love about Seam Binding is how well it folds and ties a bow.  It’s very pliable making bow ties easy.

I held the ribbon in place using the Tombow Multipurpose Glue.

Tips & Tricks

Two staples with my Handheld Stapler keeps it all together.

The 1″ Square Punch is perfect to punch these small square images.  While the images are slightly larger, this was a quick no fuss way to no cutting.

Three Beautiful People….

Three Beautiful People….

Beautiful people.  That’s what we have in our stamping community.

I’m reminded the past two weeks of a few things and I wanted to share with you.

In two weeks my stamping community has lost three beautiful people.

Being a part of Stampin’ Up! has always been a beautiful thing because there are so many beautiful things that have crossed my path during my 13 years as a demonstrator.

People.  Relationships.  This is it. This is why I love being part of this community.  It’s YOU.

The past two weeks we lost three beautiful demonstrators and it’s heartbreaking to see them go.  Selfishly I will miss their earthly bodies as well as what each one of them gave to me along the way in my journey with Stampin’ Up!

My friends Suzy Miller, Kristina Dodson and Joann Weimers are now with Jesus. Each of these ladies fought a hard battle. Suzy and Kristina both had ALS and Joann had other health problems.  Now they are free from all of that in Heaven and that gives me peace and I pray it gives their families peace.  Just thinking about the 3 of them together, stampin’ sisters… makes me smile.

Each one of these ladies made an impact on my life and none of it had to do with stamping.  They were just amazing women who cared.

That’s what we do friends.  We care about each other.  Stamping is just the bonus.  I hope we never forget that.  Stamping is what brings us together, but at the end of the day we care about EACH OTHER.

I have to tell you… reading your comments on your family holiday traditions has been the highlight of my weekend.  I love reading them because they are exactly what sharing life together is all about.  We share the good, bad and ugly details with each other.  That’s what bonds our friendships.  Isn’t that a beautiful thing? I hope you are smiling.  Despite the sadness of these beautiful ladies passing, I smile knowing that their legacy in this community will always go on.  We will carry it on.

I didn’t get too much stamping time in this weekend but I definitely wanted to create cards for my friends families.  Honestly, this weekend was a big fat FLOP. The kids were at Church Camp and had a blast.  Meanwhile Russ and I sat dealing with my computer issues that turned out taking up an entire day.  I’m surprised we are still married after this fiasco.  Technology problems can bring out the best and worst of a relationship… Oh MY word.

Time to share what I did create…

What do you think? I love the soft feel of this card. Maybe it’s because I added a bit of my favorite colors, Crumb Cake and Blushing Bride.

Sympathy Cards- I Always Dread!

At any given time I have probably 50 cards on hand to send at any given minute, except for ONE- sympathy cards.

Now, I’m embarrassed to tell you I even have that many cards on hand because the reality should be that I send them and not hoard them.  I guess I like to sit and look at them and it’s a struggle for me to get them in an envelope and out the door.  It’s something I am trying hard to work on-really.

Sympathy cards make me sad.  It means someone is hurting and I hate when someone is hurting.  I guess my solution is to not make them and then no one will be sad, right?

Lord, I wish that was the reality but we know that death is going to happen so my reality is quite distorted.  Then I have to break down and create a Sympathy card.  Here is how this goes…

  • Start creating.
  • Completely critical of the card
  • Multiple designs in trash
  • Finally think I have it PERFECT
  • In the trash again
  • Design complete!

I wish I was kidding but it’s the truth.  Why so critical over a sympathy card? I guess that’s the million $$ question.

I think my thought process is this- The person that is getting the card is already hurting.  This card needs to be perfection and over the top.  The greeting inside must be spot on.

Now let’s talk reality….

I’m pretty sure that the person receiving the card only cares about ONE thing.  Grateful.  Grateful that someone thought about them, prayed for them, and continues to pray for them.  Right?

So all this craziness and design trashing that I -or- WE do is complete silly non sense.  Our grieving friend or family need love.  Heartfelt love.  Like POUR the love and prayer on them.

When I really think about this in more depth as I write this… maybe it’s a heart issue on my part.  A selfish heart. Not one that is intentional… but one that reminds myself it isn’t about ME.

The beauty behind the card doesn’t matter.  It’s not about my design.  It’s about the person on the other end needing the love.

So, while I might think this card is pretty… it honestly doesn’t matter.  The beautiful message it will send is I care, I love, I am praying. That my friends is ALL that is important.

Heartfelt Sympathy, Stampin' Up!

When I started designing this card I instantly went with the black solemn theme.  It caught the trash can a few times but I kept getting it out and tinkering with it.

Heartfelt Sympathy, Stampin' Up!

My solution for this card was that little soft blue flower.  It was the pop of color that was soothing to me and made me think of the person receiving it.  That they stand out to me at this time.  They are what’s important.

Heartfelt Sympathy, Stampin' Up!

I guess the message today was pretty heartfelt and like many of the things I write about… it’s a struggle.  The good is that we are aware of our shortcomings and we know how to work on them.

Speaking of heartfelt… I want to say a heartfelt thank you to all of you praying for my brother.  He is still in the hospital trying to birth a very large kidney stone.  The pain has been pretty unbearable.  Pray for my SIL Tracy as she has been by his side through it all.  He is doing better and they “think” the big stone is breaking apart.  This would be a beautiful thing for poor Shane.

As for Brandon… my heart is full with the stories you share with me.  You make me laugh, cry and pause… That’s important.  To pause and reflect this season we are in. It’s not easy I’m finding to be 14.  I vaguely remember being 14.  I’m afraid to ask my mother how I was.  I am sure this is paybacks on her part. <smile>  I am pretty sure I was an angel.  <sigh>

Have an amazing day friends.  You are SO loved.
