Hello, Sailor

When the new Occasions Mini came out this year I was smitten with the Hello, Sailor stamp set.  Besides, I have a sailor so I thought this set would be perfect to create  little love notes.   Hello Sailor, Stampin' Up!

Once again this stamp set has sat on my desk waiting to be used.  I thought I would also give you an update on how the sailor is doing as well.

Hello Sailor, Stampin Up!

I used many of my favorites on this card.

My first favorite was my Silhouette.  I created the stars by exporting a star punch from My Digital Studio and importing to my Silhouette.  The stars were cut from the High Tide Designer Series Paper.  LOVE this paper with it’s awesome designs.

You can find all the supplies I used for this card below.

Time for an update on the Prince and my sweet sailor.  *deep breath*

To be honest, there has not been much of a change in the recent weeks.  The progress we see on a day to day basis is more strength related than anything else.  This makes his spirit a little down.  Russ has really struggled over the last week especially. For a man that fixed everything and took care of “us”, he feels useless at home.  Of course we tell him all the time this too shall pass.  I’m sure he hears it but I can imagine it’s not what he wants to hear.

We are trying to find ways between therapy that he can be more helpful around the house.  Sometimes it does the opposite and frustrates him more because he realizes what he cannot do.  It’s a catch 22 for me.

We had a little chat about attitude this week.  The plumbing and dryer issue did not help his spirit/attitude at all.  Seeing me clean up the great flood in the bathroom just upset him.  We both know that this WILL get better but it’s going to take a lot of TIME.  I can’t beat him up for having a few bad days because Lord knows I’ve had my share.  When he has an attitude change I have to be up on my game and keep my attitude in check.  Together this is how we are dealing with it.

We are seeing a little progress in his right arm and hand.  The arm is what gives him more frustration than anything.  Getting those fingers to move and start picking up objects is BRUTAL!

We did get some good news at his last Dr. appointment.  His neurologist is going to try giving his arm Botox to relax the muscles and let his fingers relax more.  Right now his hand curls up because the muscles are so tense.  Of course when the Dr. said Botox I immediately perked up and asked the million dollar question… “will there be leftover Botox I can have?”  Just a little in my forehead would be fine.  A girl can ask, right?

We are awaiting approval from insurance to move forward with this.  I’ll keep you posted and you’ll know I was able to get the leftovers when I post selfies everyday.

Continue to pray for Russ, please.  Now that the plumbing is fixed (today anyways) and the dryer we can relax over the weekend.

  1. Hi Kimberly,

What a cute card! You really are great at using the stamps in a way that is unexpected in a very good way!

Thanks so much for the update on Russ. I have been wondering how things are going and even though the progress is slow, it seems to be going in the right direction. I’m sure he knows how many of us keep you all in our thoughts and prayers!

  2. Another beautiful card! I love that you use your Silhouette and MDS. Maybe once things calm down a bit (wait, it’s the VanDiepen family…it will NEVER calm down! but that’s why we love ya!!!) you can do a “how to” video showing the steps. I’ve had my SIL for almost a year and still just doing the basics. Time to step it up with your help, maybe?????
You are all in my thoughts and prayers!

  3. First I have to say great news for Russ….keeping fingers and toes crossed that the insurance approves the botox….whether or not you get the ‘leftovers’….you are sooooo funny! Secondly have to say that I was a bit disappointed in your card…I also have a Sailor at home and was hoping for more on your card than the one stamp (and fussy cut stars from the DSP). I know that you are still reeling from the recent plumbing issues and the dryer, but am really hoping that you will create a real stunner using this stamp set and more of the DSP. I look forward to more creativity – no matter where it comes from….love your style and love your writing style….you most always make me laugh, at the very least smile and can’t ask for much more than that!
