Where’s the Cook?

If it's one wifey-poo duty that I don't like to do it would be cooking.  It's not the actual making of the dinner that I despise so much but the planning and shopping!  When 5pm rolls around I just want to poke my eyes out.  It's like groundhog day all over again.  I look into the freezer with a dazed look and see nothing that's quick.  Then I open the pantry door and pull out the good ole favorite… Mac n Cheese! While mom's may be shaking a finger at me for not feeding my kids a healthy dinner my children are dancing in the kitchen thinking I'm the BEST mom ever.  Hmmm… It's not so bad after all.

Did you know before I sold Stampin' Up! I was a Pampered Chef demonstrator.  I'm not sure how that happened?  They have great products but again I'm not into the cooking gig and I for sure do not like cleaning it up.  So how in the world does this tie into my project today? Let me tell ya…

I love the new set in the catalog called House & Home (#122577) and Now You're Cookin' (#121327).  I love the vintage style of the House & Home set and then the Domestic Goddess DSP (#122355) is just super cute.  Besides being so cute, the name of the DSP makes me want it.  The million dollar question was how I was going to use the stamp set.  ???  I have a few ideas planned for friends over the holidays.  You can make very cute tags attached to kitchen ware gifts using both of these sets.  I thought I would start with a card.  I made this card for a new friend in town that just moved here.  She really has it all together and has her house unpacked and put together.  She really inspires me to get off my duff and get busy.  She also sews and just overly domesticated.  I think she secretly wears a superwoman cape at night….

Here is my card I am bringing tomorrow for her with a little gift to welcome her.

I really love the designer paper.  I took two different patterns and sewed a random pattern over the two pieces.  I wanted it to look quilted.  The base of the card is Poppy Red.  You can see the Pool Party in the DSP and my stamped image. Can you see how VERSATILE Pool Party is? It's a must new color this year.  I also added a Vintage Brad near my Modern Label punch.

I may not be crazy domesticated in the cooking department but this card will even spice up a wrapped box of Mac n Cheese!. <smile>

I think we will need this set for Christmas/Holiday gifts this year.  What do you think? You can see all the coordinating products in my Online Store

Have a GREAT weekend.

  1. This is fabulous!!! I too do not like the kitchen thing – I used to cook all the time, but Tony is such a good cook, I got lazy and finally came clean with him this year and told him – hey, I do everything else, but I don't like the cooking thing, and he told me he will do it – YIPPEE!!! Although I would cook if someone gave me this card………..:-)

  2. This is a darling card…almost makes me want to step into the kitchen. I share your dread of the 5 p.m. panic! I love the sentiment on the card…can you tell me which set it is from? I am flipping through the catalog and I just can't find it, although I'm sure it is here right under my nose! Thanks!

  3. Once again! YOU.HAVE.DONE.WONDERFUL!  What a wonderful card! I have all of this and used none of it! NOW I WILL! THANK YOU!
And you aren't a bad mom for feeding them mac n' cheese…..at least they are eating!

  4. Great card! I make menus for a month at a time. You could start out by making them for a week at a time. It is really easy because you can tailor (pun intended) the meals for the days' activities. And it helps with shopping costs, because you only buy what you need for that week of food. You can shop at the commissary for all of the staples and use the local store for the fresh fruit, milk, bread you run out of.

  5. Wonderful card and a great treat for your new friend…..    I used to cook all of the time myself but when my husband went on disability/retirement, he started cooking and though we usually have salads (with lots of stuff in them) for dinner during the week, he does most of the shopping as well.  Sunday is my day to cook – hey it works and I don't feel badly about it at all.  When I retire, I'm sure there will be more cooking by me, so I'm enjoying it now!           I have not been truly drawn to this DSP but after seeing your card, I'm changing my mind….so thank you for the inspiration!

  6. I love that set/dsp too, but have hesitated over the stamp set because I wasn't sure what to do with it!  Now I have something to CASE–thanks!!
As for the 5 p.m. dinner chaos, there is a lovely planning tool on Like Mother Like Daughter blog (ourmothersdaughters.com; on the sidebar) that literally saved my marriage.  I'm terrible about thinking ahead and menu planning and while I don't technically mind cooking, those hours between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. are just nuts at my house with three little ones under foot.  The worksheet helped me get my rear in gear and pull myself together!
Also, I've found lately that if I make the dinner before lunch time, I do much better with it all because by 4:00 or 4:30, when I should start making dinner, I'm tired and cranky, and my kids go nuts, so either I make dinner with three little people screaming at me, or I can reheat something I made earlier in the day and everyone stays a lot calmer!
But mac-n-cheese days are good too!  I've had more than my share, that's fo-sho.
Anyway, just a penny for the pond. 🙂

  7. So funny you should bring up Mac & Cheese. That was a staple when my kids were growing up (they are now 26 & 30). But now my grandkids, (2, 4 & 5) LOVE it too! When my grandkids ask for a snack, they know which cabinet has them and they also see the Mac & Cheese, they want me to make it for them. Oh, and it has to be Kraft Mac & Cheese, no other will do.
Also funny that your kids tricked you. They certainly put a lot of thought into their little prank.
Loved your card too! But I really enjoy reading about you and your family. Your kids are lucky to have a MOM like you!
