World Scrapbooking Day

World Scrapbooking Day

Happy World Scrapbooking Day to you!

Today is a bit exciting as I have a fun  International World Scrapbooking Day Blog Hop to share with you.

World Scrapbooking Day, Stampin' Up!

You may be just starting here or have come from the amazing Ilse van Vliet blog.

Either way you can make your way around by using the list at the bottom of this blog post, so that you don’t miss a blog and a chance to be inspired by the scrap lay-outs, Project Life pages and/or scrap mini-albums our talented group of Stampin’ Up!® Demonstrators have created!

Let the fun begin!

I decided I would work on an scrapbooking album for each of the kids and wanted to start with a cover page for the album.

I loved building this page and started with a clean blank slate.  I had tons of ideas when starting this layout and then it just evolved.  I LOVE when that happens.  After being in a creative rut for a bit, it felt great to find a bit of mojo.

World Scrapbooking Day, Stampin' Up!

Building the Page

World Scrapbooking Day, Stampin' Up!

Starting this scrapbooking layout I began with a few products on my desk and then started layering working on the left side first to showcase my photos.  Here are a few of the products I had on hand.

World Scrapbooking Day, Stampin' Up!

I uploaded my photos to the Becky Higgins Project Life App and used a template to create 2 x 2 photos.  I love how tiny and fun these photos are and they are a direct reflection of my sweet Alexis and her infectious laugh.  You can see my post from Wednesday HERE where I share how to use the Becky Higgins App to print your own photos using a Canon Selphy Printer.

The Shine On Designer Paper with gems speaks to my page as she truly is a gem.  I love the polka dots on the Fancy Foil Designer Vellum because it adds “fun” to the layout.  The clip and die cut you see around the photo come from the You’re So Lovely Project Kit.  <—— It’s a MUST buy.  Truly one of the best kits.

World Scrapbooking Day, Stampin' Up!

The tiny little blue triangles come from the Memories in the Making Project Life Kit.  It’s one that you will swoon over.  Think Ice Cream, Good Times, and Balloons. Perfect to capture birthdays and so much more.

World Scrapbooking Day, Stampin' Up!

Moving over to the right side of the layout, you can see I added a few more strips of designer paper and then stamped the “Life” onto Whisper White cardstock to sum up the entire page.  This will be Alexis’ life.  This stamp set comes from the Project Life This is the Life stamp set.  GREAT set for scrapbookers.

Another favorite I added was the Silver Glitter Tape that you can receive FREE with a $50 product order.  Oh this tape is a piece of heaven.  Easy to tear and add’s so much to a project.

World Scrapbooking Day, Stampin' Up!

Another fun piece I did for this scrapbooking layout was added a little watercoloring using Soft Suede ink and my Aqua Painter.  It was a quick brushing of color, nothing fancy.  Another favorite I added was the gold balls and stars from the You’re So Lovely Project Kit.  These are little gems in that kit. WOW!

Now it’s time to visit the rest of the hop and see the amazing scrapbooking talent from all over the world.  This is my favorite part.  Grab a cup of coffee or your favorite drink and take in the inspiration.  If you are not much into scrapbooking, look at it from a crafting point of view.  Take snippets and see how you can apply it to a handmade card.

You can see all of the products I used for this layout at the end of this post. Use the clickable links to shop online.

Artisans Celebrate Scrapbooking!

Artisans Celebrate Scrapbooking!

We are gearing up for International Scrapbooking Day and what better way to do it than share one of Stampin’ Up!’s great scrapbooking tools- Project Life.

With the crazy days I’ve had behind me I was a little freaked out about a few deadlines looming, my scrapbooking page being one of them.

How quickly I forget the purpose of Project Life!  Simplicity.

In fact, because I always try to over compensate for things I found myself trying to do this with my layouts.

It’s been a few months since I’ve touched my scrapbooking area and when I come back to it I’m always reminded why I love it so much.

Each time I pull my pictures out I get to relive a moment.  Sometimes those moments are not easy, but they do remind me of many things- growth being my first thought. The second is the many blessings that sit in front of me.  It’s a gentle reminder.

Project Life- Moments Like These

Artisan Scrapbooking Hop, Stampin' Up! Project Life

One of the best things I splurged on this past Christmas was a Canon Selphy that I can print my photos from home.  Time is of the essence and this gives me a little more time to figure out what photos I want to use and print them as I need.

I use the Becky Higgins Project Life app which enables me to fit 2-3 x 4 prints onto a 4 x 6 template inside her app and then print my photos. Click HERE to download a quick tutorial on how to use the Project Life app to print 3 x 4 photos.

Once I had my photos printed, I reached for my Project Life box- Moments Like These.  It was  perfect for the memories I wanted to capture.

Artisan Scrapbooking Hop, Stampin' Up! Project Life

Again, I kept everything simple making this double layout in a few short minutes.  What helps this process is the coordination.  It’s all there in front of me, I just have to figure out which card I want to use and which embellishment I want to add.

I chose to use the coordinating embellishments with the kit which included the wooden bubble element you see at the top left of the layout.  I kept my journaling to bullets and it sums up the story.

Artisan Scrapbooking Hop, Stampin' Up! Project Life

Embrace Simplicity

Just speaking those two words ” embrace simplicity”  makes me cringe because I’m a complicated girl who tends to complicate anything I touch.

Embracing the simplicity of Project Life leads to bigger things and one of them is the satisfaction that it’s done.  I have piles of photos (actually sitting on my phone) that have not been printed.  In other words…. memories just waiting to be printed and stories to be remembered.

By embracing the simplicity of this type of scrapbooking  you can get a lot done. It’s supposed to be simple and we shouldn’t complicate it.  Just enjoy the process.

Final Thoughts

As an avid scrapbooker of 20 years, I have scrapbooked in all kinds of sizes.  Currently and what’s been a favorite of mine over the past few years is the 6 x 8 size.  While I love 12 x 12 layouts, I love the simplicity of the 6 x 8 books and love how they sit on my shelf. Here is my favorite album to use:

Project Life Album, Stampin' Up!

I also love Black & White photos so I can use any color pattern with my photos.

You can see all of the great Project Life products that Stampin’ Up! carries in one place HERE.

Let’s see what memories Krista has scrapbooked today and don’t forget to run through the entire hop.  Lots of great things to see.

PS- thank you for your kind thoughts and prayers for my friend.  She is a brave brave soul and doing remarkable during this tragedy.  Keep praying though… she is going to need them for awhile and all of those around her neighborhood.  XOXOXO

Can You Find Happiness?

Happiness…

I think that everywhere we look we can find happiness in something.  Don’t you?

I say this because even in my darkest of times I still found joy in small things. When I mean small… I mean like really small.  Somedays just getting out of the bed was joy.

I bring this up because I think we tend to focus on to much of the negative and not enough of the positive. Plus, my card inspired the emotions.

Tonight at dinner (9 pm mind you) we finally had the chance to sit at the dinner table together. Our lives with these teenagers keeps the pace on a level that I don’t particularly like but I know it’s a season.

Casual conversation was happening and then all of a sudden we were a family of 4 arguing about the stupidest things.

I continued to eat as the others decided to argue.  Just as casual as the conversation had been I looked up at my family and asked a simple question.

“Does this bring you joy?”

You could of heard a pin drop.

Faces of my children are now long and they could see mom was quite annoyed but I repeated, “Does this bring you joy?”

I proceeded to tell my kids and husband that during dinner it was the one time I had each of them captive to sit and enjoy each other.  Time to ask the little things about the day and how it went.  Arguing was not joyful and despite their better judgement I was sure it was not bringing them joy but tension instead.

In that moment I asked another question. “What brings YOU joy?”

Our conversation changed around the table tonight as we talked about this and the dialogue between the kids and Russ and I turned from ugly to a bit more enjoyable.  This isn’t always the case but I will tell you I was firm in my decision that at my dinner table we would speak kindly and find joy in the small things.

I don’t know where most of you are in your family life but I can bet you have been in this “mama” position I was in tonight.  I will say that raising teenagers is definitely been trying on most days, but I think we are going to survive.

I think.

My Joy

While raising my kids is joyful (let’s be real… they are hormonal teenagers) my joy comes from creating.  I love seeing how people react to something handmade.  It’s happiness for me.

Today I am sharing a little Valentine for my prince.  This is when I love to shower him with tons of cards leading up to Valentines day.  In short it’s my way of showing my love and guilting him a bit.  (just keeping it real!)

It’s also a TGIF Challenge so you can play along too!!

Happiness, Project Life, Stampin' Up!

I decided to pull out my Project Life stash to create this card.  I was so surprised how quickly this came together.

Remember this- if you are in a pinch and need a card, pull out your Project Life stash.

Memories in the Making- Project Life

Happiness, Project Life, Stampin' Up!

I pulled out my latest addition to my Project Life stash- Memories in the Making.  I used the Accessories kit on page 43 of the Occasions Catalog and the Specialty Card Collection that is FREE in the Sale-a-Bration catalog with every $50 order.  See page 8.

Tips & Tricks

I started this card with the Whisper White Thick cardstock.  I love using the thick cardstock for my card bases.

My greeting came from the Accessory Pack and was a 2 x 2 Project Life card.  I simply punched the card using my 1-3/4″ Circle punch.  The Gold Acetate card was die cut using the Circles Framelits.  The acetate is a little too thick for your punch.

The elements were adhered onto the Project Life card and then I added a Basic Black matte to the back of the card to give it a pop of color.

The sweet enamel shapes were a simple addition to also give a pop of color.

Happiness, Project Life, Stampin' Up!

I wanted quick and simple today and that’s exactly what I created.  In the process, I created happiness for myself knowing that my special someone, my Prince will enjoy it.  He really is my HAPPY.

I hope this encourages you in a few ways today.  First, find joy in the small things even when times are tough and you are struggling.  Second, pull out your Project Life stash if you have it.  Use it to capture those memories or make a quick card.  Either way, enjoy the process and find happiness.

Happiness, Project Life, Stampin' Up!

Want to play along with the TGIF Design team this week? It’s simple.  Our challenge this week is Valentines.  Visit the TGIF challenge blog and be inspired. Create and Share… Let others find joy in your happiness too.

Christmas Cuties

Christmas Cuties stamp set, Stampin' up!

I’ve pulled the Christmas Cuties stamp set out several times only to put it back after I came up short on ideas.

While Cathy was here and we were out treasure hunting I found a creepy elf that I had to have.  He puts Elf on the Shelf to shame.

Christmas Cuties stamp set, Stampin' up!

This creepy elf was my inspiration for coloring the Christmas Cutie elf.  He was so vintage I decide to use vintage colors from Stampin’ Up!. I used Watermelon Wonder and Mint Macaron with a Blender Pen to color.  Watermelon Wonder and Mint Macaron are great vintage colors in my book.

Christmas Cuties stamp set, Stampin' up!

I decided to fussy cut his top half to give him more dimension.  The vellum created a softer look to the Mint Macaron cardstock circle punch beneath it.  I also love how the silver popped on the background using the Silver Fancy Vellum.

Christmas Cuties stamp set, Stampin' up!

The Christmas Cutie images are nice and big to watercolor and easy enough to fussy cut if you wanted.  I have to say that this little elf is my favorite of all the images and he’s not so creepy. He’s kinda cute and festive.  Besides, he also reminds me of my absolute FAVORITE Christmas movie- Elf!  This is where I learned to call my children cotton-headed ninny-muggins during this time of year.

I’ve listed all the products for this card below.

New Online Class

Last year I created my own Hello December Album that chronicled each day in December.  It’s one of my favorite albums for all the little details that are in it.  This year I wanted to do the same thing using Stampin’ Up!’s Hello December Project Life Kit.  I was so impressed with this kit and the contents in both the cards and Accessory pack.  They didn’t disappoint with this years version of Hello December.

For weeks I’ve been working on a new Online class and much of the work was completed when my friend Cathy was here.  We’ve had this idea for a long time and having her here was PERFECT timing.  Both of us are big scrapbookers at heart and love using Project Life by Stampin’ Up!.

Today I’m excited to announce the launch of this NEW online class and the details that go with it!

Hello December, Project Life

I’m also excited about the available options for everyone and excited to see YOU chronicle your month of December.  Capturing all the new and traditional memories securely in one place.

An album such as this one is priceless and filled with legacy moments that will be cherished years to come.

Project Life- Are You Getting in the Groove?

Project Life- Are You Getting in the Groove?

Over the past month I been sharing my Project Life layouts from the Heidi Swapp Capture Life Challenge.  This challenge has definitely pushed my creativity, my time and most of all given me the opportunity to capture everyday life as it’s happening. I’d say I’m getting in the groove.

Why has it pushed my creativity?

As an avid scrapbooker for YEARS I’ve always worked with a fairly large canvas size to scrapbook and typically a clean blank piece of 12 x 12 cardstock.  When I started using Project Life cards it was SO easy to plop the cards and photos into the pockets and walk away. BUT that’s not how I roll.  I wanted to give it a little more.  Add a bit of Kimberly flare to it.  This is why I love it.  If you have NO time, Project Life can help you.  If you have time, you can still unleash your creativity and in my case it pushed it a bit.  Here are a few things new I tried using Project Life:

  • Printed directly on the pocket cards.  It took a bit of a learning curve but the internet is an open book and I’m a good listener.
  • I created my own pocket cards using Photoshop.  I even used my own handwriting.  This was a HUGE learning curve and still is.  But I did it.
  • I started using other products I had in my stash.  I have a bunch and instead of letting it collect dust I decided to play with it.  This pushed my creativity – I’m use to everything coordinating when using Stampin’ Up!.  When you are using other products it’s not always that easy.

Why has it pushed my time?

It’s simple.  I have NO time.  None.  This is the truth.  I spend most of my time during the day working on my Stampin’ Up! business.  Once the kids are home I am on the road driving and then back home to cook.  Then I’m back on the road again to pick up.  Next is guiding the kids so they can have a successful night.  This includes dinner, homework, chores … You know that drill.

Once everyone is tucked in bed I come back to work.  I have been putting these layouts together typically around midnight.  Don’t be scared.  They have taken me 5 minutes to put together.  That’s IT.  The hardest part was finding the cards, ink, stamps or embellishments I wanted to use.

Why capture everyday life?

Why NOT? Every single day I take a photo of something.  It’s now a habit.  I’ve captured some great memories since I started.  Now that they are in an album I can tell a story of my August happenings.  Come to find out we are not as boring as I thought we were.  But the real reason I capture everyday life… Life is SHORT.  I am not promised tomorrow but I can remember yesterday and many days before that.  Life can change in an instant.  We know this.  So why not keep memories alive?

Whether you started this journey with Heidi at the beginning or you are just starting now, it doesn’t matter.  The first big step is starting it.

I have a few layouts I want to share with you.  I hope you are inspired to create your own.

Project Life Day 21

This moment captured is so special.  These two can but heads better than anyone I know.  To see them quietly working on Brandon’s Algebra/Geometry was heart warming and a moment I didn’t want to forget.

Project Life Day 22

I look at this picture and think how can she be growing up so fast.  Over the last year alone she has grown 4″.  She is becoming a lady before my crazy eyes.

Project Life Day 23

I know many hate to take selfies, but remember… YOU have a story to tell too.  It’s important that we leave our own legacy behind.  Someone will enjoy a good laugh on us one day.

Project Life Day 24

This was a HUGE milestone.  HUGE.

Project Life Day 25

Selfies don’t always have to be a face.  Remember to be real with the journaling.  This story speaks volumes for me.  It’s been a crappy couple of years for me.  I’m starting to feel like myself again. Although the past has been painful, I’ve learned so much about myself and finding myself again has been just as interesting.  Being true to WHO you are is important.

Project Life Day 26

It was just a moment to capture.  She normally wears contacts because of gymnastics.  Her right eye was really red and inflamed so I told her she had to wear her glasses.  You could see her self confidence melting.  She doesn’t like to wear her glasses.  Her mama thinks she is gorgeous with or without them. I wanted her to see for herself.  It’s a moment she will remember.

There are not many days left with this challenge.  I am excited that I’ve kept on track for the most part.  I am 3 days behind right now but I will finish it tonight.  I’m not worried.  I have the memories.  Now to put them in their sleeves so I can admire them for the long haul.

There are two things I can accomplish by sharing this book.

  1. I created it.
  2. I inspired you to create your own.

I hope you will let me know if you have started.

Thanks for reading my friends.  I do love you!
