Southwestern? Could This Be?

Kimberly Van Diepen, Stampin' Up!

It's always a good thing when you can step a little outside the normal box you rest in, don't you think?  Yeah, Yeah Kimberly!  Easy for you to say, right? No, really.

I bet you can take a quick overview of my website and get a rough idea that I like fluffy, old, textutre, vintage and lots of layers.  Right? That style is embedded in my blood I think.

But what do you do if you really need to alter that style a bit and think outside that normal zone? Do you? Are you locked into a certain style? Sometimes I think I am, and honestly I'm totally okay with it.

Kimberly Van Diepen, Stampin' Up!

I've never been a fan of the southwestern style both in home decor and stamping. This changed a bit when I noticed feathers being used on projects.  I love feathers. I love how delicate they look and no two are the same just like a snowflake.

My only issue was creating with these feathers. They reminded me of the Southwestern look and I wasn't sure where to start. I also wanted to use the DSP Parkers Patterns. It is one that has sat for awhile on my shelf and it's very Southwestern.

I dumped a bunch of product on my desk and started working with it. Things included, 1/2 cut doilies, Linen thread and the ink colors from the Parkers Patterns.   When I stamped the feathers in the colors from the DSP it wasn't making me do cartwheels. I decided to go with a trusty fav of mine- Basic Black Craft ink and clear embossing powder. I loved that texture.

All of a sudden it all started to come together as the creating began. Bam, Bam, Bam!

While my style may not be Southwestern, I tweaked it to my style with that Southwestern edge.  A pop of color and the delicate feathers made me very happy!
