DIY Chalkboard Frame

Kimberly Van Diepen, Stampin' Up!

The last two weeks I've been busy as a bee spending time with one of my bestest friends ever.

We *love* to craft together but we are miles and miles apart on a normal day.

When she arrived we had BIG BIG plans of many things to get done.  We had planned this for quite some time.

We didn't waste any time once she arrived. We created over 32 projects!  We were trying to beat a previous record from her last visit but 32 seems to be the magic number.  I just love the work out I give to all my Stampin' Up! stamps.  They have been INKED!!

We made a trip to the local craft store to gather our supplies and then the creating started.

We decided to create a Chalk Art Frame for our first project.

We grabbed a simple gold frame, decorative frame and poster board.

We painted the poster board with a chalkboard paint.  The gold frame we painted with a soft blue pain. The decorative frame we painted with an off white paint.  The two frames were slightly sanded, and we added gold splatter.  The gold splatter became a little bit of a problem because it didn't want to dry.  We didn't panic, we just added embossing powder over it. Worked like a charm.

Once the two frames were dry we did a little stamping on the decorative frame using the script from By the Tide.

We hot glued the two frames together but noticed this wasn't holding as well as we liked.  Easy fix, we added velcro to each side of the decorative frame and attached.  This will help greatly when we want to change out the chalk art for the season.

Next we seasoned our chalkboards to get them ready to add our chalk art.

We decided to add a banner across the frame and our thought is to change it out as we want for the seasons.

The banner was created with all Stampin' Up! products except for one piece- the music notes banner. This actually came from an antique store and it's OLD music sheets.  *it's DIVINE*  You can see the entire suppy list at the end of this post.  _MG_2249

The last thing we needed to do was CHALK! This was the most stressful part of the entire project. I do love how it came out and I stopped erasing and just let my hand get crazy with the swirls.  I'm in love with the entire project.  _MG_2250
