Decorative Masks- Do You Use Them?

Using Decorative Masks

Decorative Masks are a fun way to alter any project and especially easy when using the new Seasonal Decorative Masks.

I pulled out a super cute stamp set to try this out on today, Cookie Cutter Christmas.

Oh my word, this reindeer was love at first sight.

Simple Use of Decorative Masks

Decorative Masks, Stampin Up!, Cookie Cutter Christmas

The Cookie Cutter Christmas bundle is one of the easiest stamp sets to create with and seems to be one of the most popular.

With all of the cute images, it makes your paper crafting quick and simple.  I love my punches and even better when they coordinate with a stamp set or two.

Now add the addition of Decorative Masks and you create a fun way to add interest or texture to a card. Remember, you are not limited to using Decorative Masks on only paper.

Products to Use with Decorative Masks

Here are a few products you can use with Decorative Masks:

  • Ink
  • Acrylic Paint
  • Markers
  • Modeling Paste

These are the following tools I use when adding ink, paint or any paste when using the Decorative Masks:

  • Sponge Dauber
  • Sponge Brayers
  • Spritzer Tools
  • Sponges
  • Aqua Painter

Decorative Masks can be used on fabric and canvas as well.

For this card I used the new Decorative Masks with a sponge dauber and White Craft ink.  I loved the polka Dots and by using the Sponge Dauber I softly sponged the ink to create a look of softly falling snow.

Tips & Tricks for Decorative Masks

  • Keep Decorative Masks from moving by using Washi Tape.  Washi Tape when carefully removed will not rip your cardstock.
  • Use an Aqua Painter loaded with ink and gently wash a small amount of color in the open masked areas.  This creates a fun decorative look from the Decorative Mask and a watercolored look.
  • Try creating a patterned splatter technique with an Aqua Painter.  Simply load Aqua Painter with ink, then tap over the Decorative Mask heavily.
  • Using a sponge dauber will create a fully inked look within the masked area, while the Sponge Brayer will create a softer fully inked look.  Both have a fun distinctive look and you can change the look by the amount of pressure you add when using.
  • Clean your Decorative Masks by running under water and washing with dish soap gently.  Pat dry with a paper towel.

Tips & Tricks for the Reindeer

  • Stamp the reindeer onto Crumb Cake cardstock using Soft Suede ink.  Using a Blender Pen, add a slight shade to the edge of the nose, ears and antlers.  Color the nose using Real Red.  Punch the image out using the Cookie Cutter Builder Punch.  SO fun and easy.
