Celebrating, Stampin' Up! Happy Celebrations

Celebrating with TGIF Team

I’m celebrating with the TGIF team today as they turn two! You might remember back over a year ago I was part of the TGIF team.  They are a team of demonstrators which create challenges and sketches every week.  I’m honored to play along for their 2nd birthday!

Celebrating, Stampin' Up! Happy Celebrations

Let’s Create!

Celebrating, Stampin' Up! Happy Celebrations

I pulled out some of the new InColors for this card.  I’m noticing that I’m using a ton of bright colors lately. Maybe it’s becasue summer is around the corner? I loved how bright the Lemon Lime Twist looks with any color you pair it with.

I used the Happy Celebrations stamp set and the Celebrations Duo Textured Impressions Folders.  Tip: When stamping over the textured impressions area on my card, I used the Stampin’ Pierce Mat.  The mat helps me to get a very clean image when stamping over the embossed area.

Tips & Tricks

Here are a few tips when creating this card.

  • I created the smallest polka dot by using a pencil eraser and Archival Basic Black Ink.
  • Pop of Pink Specialty Designer Series Paper has some of my favorite patterns. I especially love all of the black and white because I can pair it with any color.  I love how the black polka dots balance the other stamped polka dots on my card.

Celebrating, Stampin' Up! Happy Celebrations

Happy Celebrations is a stamp set that will be carrying over into the new Annual Catalog along with the Celebrations Duo Textured Impressions Folders.  They are a must have in my book.

You can see all of the products I used for this card in the clickable links below.

One Last Card

I want to share one more card that I created for my club last month that we all loved creating. Once again I used bright colors, but I think the colors are a perfect match for this playful stamp set.

Happy 2nd Birthday!

I want to congratulate the TGIF team on hitting this great milestone with their website.  I know that keeping up with a website can be challenging, but the TGIF team has done a fantastic job inspirng and challenging crafters all over.

Challenges are something I love and I encourage you to seek them.  Seek a sketch or color challenge and create.  Let’s face it, at some point our creative flow hits a stopping point.  These types of challenges are perfect to help get the creative process flowing again.  Congratulations TGIF and thank you for inviting me for a guest spot.  I’m honored and grateful.  XOXOXO

Card Fail and Re-Do!

Card Fail and Re-Do!

It happens more than people think inside this stamp room of mine.

It’s the final moments of creating the card.  All is going beautifully well.  I’m just adding some finishing touches and BAM… RUINED. I mean RUINED.

There are many many cards that have almost hit the trash but somehow I have saved… until this card.  It was a complete disaster and for a challenge card no less.

Let me share….

First, today is Friday so that means it’s time for a TGIF challenge.  It’s a super fun sketch I think you will love.

Card Fail, TGIF Challenge, Stampin' Up!

I started this card using the Beautiful Ride stamp set.  I love this bug car and the other images that go with this set are amazing fun.

Beautiful Ride, TGIF Challenge, Stampin' Up!

Once I had everything watercolored and the entire card set in place and adhered down I thought it needed one more thing… a little splatter.  It’s like an obsession I have.  Kinda like my obsession with doily’s.  I also love me some splatter.  Until it’s out of control like this…

Beautiful Ride, TGIF Challenge, Stampin' Up!

Now my couple looks like they are part of a murder scene.  Who knew Watermelon Wonder ink could look like a bloody mess? I tried to save the card by re-doing the couple.  Nope.  The windows on the bug car were to far gone.  It didn’t look pretty at all.  Most of the time when this happens I have to walk away and gather my thoughts because I’m so mad at myself.  Not this card.  I laughed so hard I almost wet my pants.  This was FUNNY!!

So, I started from scratch.  A complete re-do!

Beautiful Ride, TGIF Challenge, Stampin' Up!

Much cleaner.  No more murder scene.  Just a lovely couple probably enjoying a cozy moment alone.

Beautiful Ride, TGIF Challenge, Stampin' Up!

Tips & Tricks

I used Watercolor Paper and Basic Black Archival Ink to watercolor the Bug and couple images.  One tip before you start watercoloring, heat set the images.   I stamp the images and then I take my heat tool over them to make sure they are good and dry.

The images are watercolored using an Aqua Painter and Inks.  I used Watermelon Wonder for the Bug Car.  You can see all the inks used in the supply list below.

When I first stamped the stars they were really bright using Daffodil Delight. When I was re-creating this card I changed the ink to So Saffron (had to bust out a duster on that ink pad!) Using that color was much softer. Then I added a Vellum overlay to create an even more softer look.

What do you think? Notice the re-created card has NO splatter.  I thought I would not risk it a second time.

Would love to hear from you!  Plus, don’t forget to play along in the challenge.  You can see what the other designers created HERE and play along.

Happy New Year- 2016!!

Happy New Year!!

New Year? Already? It’s hard to believe we are now into 2016 and I say that every New Year.

Where does the time go? Why does it seem to be flying way TOO fast?

I remember waiting for my 21st birthday because I couldn’t wait to be the legal age to do anything and it seemed like I was waiting an eternity for that.  Now, time whizzes before my eyes and all I see are my two children growing so fast.  Way too fast.

Of course today I will reflect on all the great things that happened in 2015.  There was a lot of GREAT and some bad.  What a year it has been.  I prefer to focus on the good as I’m sure you do.  I think I would label the year 2015 as the year of overcoming.  Overcoming a lot of everything.

I don’t know about you, but I am ready for 2016.  This year is going to be big for Russ and I.  Russ will retire from the military this year. That is really hard to believe.

Friends, we will continue on this great journey of life together and make 2016 AMAZING.  The one thing I know that can get us through the many obstacles we are guaranteed to face is to stay positive throughout it all.  Together, we can do it and nothing is better than stamping together.

TGIF Challenge- Color & Remix

Today we not only celebrate ringing in a new year, but it’s also FRIDAY which means it’s time for a new TGIF Challenge.  YAY!

TGIF, Challenges, Stampin' Up!

It’s the perfect color challenge for this week with these colors.  I can see champagne glasses clinking together with this color combination.  However, I didn’t have two glasses clinking together so I went with a star theme.

Happy New Year, Stampin' Up!, Fabulous Four stamp set

Honestly this card was a doozie to make only because I kept messing it up over and over again.  I had the stars to big, the number dies crooked, then the entire card was crooked… Basically a HOT mess.

After being torn a part a few times it finally came together.  Unfortunately this has been a bit of a problem for me lately.  It seems like everything I am creating is not going as planned.  A creative crooked rut.

Happy New Year, Stampin' Up!, Fabulous Four stamp set

I won’t let that scare me away.  I just keep plugging along until I do get it right.  Plus I’m happy to say this did not end in the trash.  YAY.  That IS something to celebrate. HA HA HA

Happy New Year, Stampin' Up!, Fabulous Four stamp set

Create it!

This card can be used not only for New Years but birthday’s too.  For instance, you could use the following instead of 2016:

  • Celebrate Baby
  • Celebrate (Insert year born)
  • Celebrate (Insert Age)
  • Celebrate NEW or OLD
  • Celebrate YOU

The list could go on and on.  I love that the Little Number Dies have the hashtag included in the dies.  SO fun.  Now you could go #crazy!

The word CELEBRATE came from the stamp set Fabulous Four.  I omitted the words beneath the celebrate.  The word Celebrate was the perfect size.  You can see a video on the Omitting Technique in this post HERE.

I instantly thought of stars and fireworks for the new year and it this was a perfect card to create a shaker card.  I used foam tape on the back with a window sheet to keep the sequins in place.  I love that they are Gold, Silver, White and Clear and of course there are some stars mixed in.  Perfect coordination by adding the Die Cut stars.

Holly Jolly Time- TGIF Challenge

Holly Jolly Time- TGIF Challenge

Are you ready to have a Holly Jolly time? Hello! It’s FRIDAY! Yahoo!

TGIF, Challenges, Stampin' Up!

It’s time for another TGIF challenge.  Man, last week we had a fantastic sketch challenge and I loved all of the cards from those who participated.  They were fantastic.  I hope you had a minute to check it out.

This week our challenge is inspiration.  You can use this photo below as your inspiration and let your creativity run. These types of challenges usually trip me up a bit because my mind runs wild with all kinds of ideas and then the card looks like a complete disaster.  You’ll see that I kept my card pretty simple.

Holly Jolly Time, TGIF Challenge, Stampin' Up!

I couldn’t get the song, “Holly Jolly Christmas” out of my head while creating this card.  I was singing at the top of my lungs when creating.  I’m sure it was pleasant for anyone around me but it helped me as I created.

Holly Jolly Time, TGIF Challenge, Stampin' Up!

As I said, I kept my card fairly simple.  I used a blender pen and ink pads to color my Holly branch from the Peaceful Wreath set. I love how this image looks when stamped. The holly leaves are so crisp and it was easy to color using three basic colors- Pear Pizzaz, Watermelon Wonder and Soft Suede.

Holly Jolly Time Christmas, Peaceful Wreath, Stampin' Up!

The Jolly and Christmas greetings came from the Oh, What Fun stamp set.  I used the omitting technique on the Christmas greeting because I didn’t want all of the other words. It worked perfect for this.  Just ink only the words you want and then stamp.  You could also stamp the entire image and only cut out the words you want.  Either way works great.

Holly Jolly Time Christmas, Peaceful Wreath, Stampin' Up!

I’m grateful for all those that participated in our challenge last week.  It was so fun to see their take on the challenge.  I hope you will join me this week.  One thing about challenges, they stretch your creativity and let you try new things.  Don’t be afraid to try something new.

To join in on the fun with TGIF #34 click HERE.  See what the other designers came up with too.  I am always amazed at these talented women.

You will see my supply list at the bottom of the post.

Have an awesome Friday and weekend ahead.  I’m still digesting the Star Wars movie I just came home from.  Russ was like a kid in a candy store.  He was so excited and as soon as the music started the smile on his face got bigger.  It was AWESOME.

Let’s Have a TGIF Sketch Party!

Sketch Party!

Let’s get your weekend started off to a good start with a TGIF sketch!

If your mojo is depleted or you just can’t seem to get in the creative spirit a sketch is like the ultimate super hero.  It’s comes to the rescue like no other.

TGIF, Challenges, Stampin' Up!

This weeks sketch is fantastic and you can go crazy with creative options.

Are you ready to hear what I mean?

TGIF Sketch Party, Stampin' Up!, Stampinbythesea

You’ve Got Options!

What makes a sketch great? Personally it means zilcho thinking involved as far as how it’s going to be created.  That piece of work is done for me. Now all I have to do is figure out what stamp set I want to use and colors.

When looking at a sketch think about turning the sketch.  You can create looking at it the orientation that it’s in -OR- turn it to the left or right and see the sketch differently.

TGIF Sketch Party, Stampin' Up!, Stampinbythesea

You can see, I was lazy.  Exactly why I love a sketch.  I didn’t have to turn it or move anything.

No overthinking here, just creating.

I immediately had an idea when I saw the sketch.  I thought wouldn’t it be cool if I could fit those Sleigh Ride Framelits inside the circles.

Wouldn’t you know, they fit.  That = success in my book.

Create It!

TGIF Sketch Party, Stampin' Up!, Stampinbythesea

I started this card by rolling two of the Sleigh Ride framelits with Whisper White cardstock.  I pieced them into the 1 1/4″ circles before cutting to the size I wanted.  This made it easier on me instead of cutting too soon and then having to re-roll the die cuts.

I used the Scallop framelit from the Cutie Pie framelit and die cut my Burlap ribbon.

*Tip:  To get a crisp cut every time roll the burlap through the Big Shot a couple of times.  It should then come out crisply cut and no strings. To attach the back of the card use the Green Tombow Multipurpose Glue.  I attached the Chevron ribbon the same way.  Gives it a better hold.

TGIF Sketch Party, Stampin' Up!, Stampinbythesea

My favorite part of this card is the Silent Night Music Paper from the Home for Christmas Designer Series Paper.  It brings the entire card together from the greeting, the quiet sleigh ride in the background and the music to Silent Night.
