I Messed Up Big Time!

As our story goes there is always something interesting going on here at our home.  On Saturday I was enjoying piece and quiet on my deck and thought about posting on my Facebook status that it was such a INCREDIBLE day!  I never posted this  and probably with good reason. I was on such a great roll with cleaning house, and catching up on laundry.  I had made a fantastic dinner for the kids even.  The kids were having a great day too.  We went to the fish store and they each bought their own Beta Fish.  Brandon named his Dr. Awesome. Alexis named hers Princess, I think.? They are happy in each of their rooms.  Everything was quiet until I went to go get my laundry!

As I was reaching into the washing machine I pulled out Brandon's iPod touch.  I screamed.  Not lying. I screamed loud. So loud Alexis ran down the stairs. I had my hands over my eyes and kept saying, "How could I be SO stupid?" Alexis started crying because she thought it was hers.  Brandon came around to see what the commotion was and I looked at him and said, "Buddy, you left your iPod in your shorts pocket!" He started crying.  I felt TERRIBLE. I immediately put it in a bowl of rice and covered it and I am praying every day that it will absorb the water.  I mean it was the FULL washing cycle.  Not even the rapid one.  UGH!! I never even heard the noise from the washer! ??? It really ruined the entire day.  I sat with Brandon and the poor guy was doing the "catch your breath" crying.  Oh my, now I feel REALLY bad.  Of course I talked to him about this being a lesson for both of us!  We both need to check pockets. About an hour later Brandon was looking for things to sell in a garage sale to pay for the repairs or a new one.  Needless to say I went to bed hanging my head lower than it has been in awhile.  I messed up big time!  The fun part of this is going to be telling the Prince.  I wonder if loosing his iPhone a couple weeks back makes this look any less? Say a prayer for me. It could be ugly!

The next day- Dr. Awesome is now Dr. Dead.  We have a new Dr. Awesome.

Hope you have a FANTASTIC week!!!!

  1. Some good news—-My hubby left his Blacberry Torch (phone) in the rain on Friday night. He put in in a baggy of WHITE RICE (from the dollar store–we only had brown and we were told white was best!!) and GOOD NEWS—this morning he took it out of the bag and SUCCESS, IT WORKS. The key I think was leave it in for a few days and white rice is best. Good luck.

  2. Kimberly!!  I think we live parallel lives sometimes.  I washed my Alex's DS game that he had in his pocket over the weekend.  Same lesson……
Also, can totally relate to the fish.  When Alex was 5 he got a fish tank.  One by one the fish were dying off.  He also had snails.  I couldn't stand the thought of his sad little face at the snails too (and fortunately they look enough alike that you can swap them without much notice)  So, when I'd notice that one wasn't doing so hot (aka was a floater) I would wait until he'd go to sleep at night and pull it out of the tank.  He'd get up in the morning and say "Mom….where's Gary?" (All snails were named Gary after Spongebob's snail) and I would come and look in the tank and say "Oh, huh..I don't know, maybe he went on vacation?"  That would give me a couple days until I could get to Petco for a new Gary.  His little face was delighted whenever he could see that Gary came back from vacation.  🙂

  3. My daughter and I went to a TSO concert at Verizon Center a couple years ago and when we were in the ladies' room she accidentally dropped her phone in the toilet. LOL  It was quite traumatic!   But….I did the ziploc bag of white rice trick and it worked like a charm.  it's worth a shot anyway.  🙂

  4. It is a hard lesson learned. I did the same thing with an ipod a few months back, My son left it in his pockets (which he never does) and I forgot to check them. He had to wait for his birthday to get another one, but now he has to wait till Christmas to get his new DS that he was going to get for his birthday.  There are worse things that could have happened is how I try to look at it.

  5. Kimberly – Maybe this will cheer you up…..my son dropped his ipod on our hardwood floor and the glass cover cracked.  It was not safe to use because he could've gotten a glass splinter.  My husband took it to our local Radio Shack (the nearest Apple store is 20 miles or so away.)  The sales guy gave dh a brand new one for my son!!!  He said that since it was within a year he had no problem doing it.  No haggling, no explainations – nothing!  Please don't give up hope!  Take it to your local Apple store or place that services ipods.  Good luck!

  6. Kimberly, I can honestly say, been there done that! Hang in girl your kids are still young!!
Yes I'm saying this won't be the last disaster. Good Luck, love reading your blog.

  7. each person's responsible for checking their pockets for "anything"; if something's left in the pocket & it gets washed ANDDDD I find it, it's mine for keeps!            Susan

  8. Kimberly, I'm with Jacki x2 – we've had 2 iPod touches have issues within a year of buying them and they were both replaced with new ones without a problem.  Even if it's been over a year, it doesn't hurt to call the Apple store and ask.  We've found them to be very helpful.  I hope you can get it working again soon!  (I've become obssessive about checking pockets because of stuff like this, although with us it's usually a pen or a reinking stamp that my husband uses for work that ruins the whole load of laundry (usually school clothes and not play clothes!) plus makes the inside of the dryer black!)

  9. My daughter dropped hers in the toilet and Apple replaced it.  She told them that her toddler kept picking it up and putting it in her mouth!  LOL

  10. I know that you feel terrible that this was the one time that you forgot to check pockets. We have all done that with something at some point in time – luckily when our family had these little 'oopppsss' times, there was not the technology of today!  But none the less, someone was crushed at loosing something to the big bad washing machine!   Hopefully Brandon won't hold this over you too long…and that he is learning one of the many hard-way lessons we all have to experience.      Love that you had gotten them the Betas and they at least have them to cheer themselves up.   Guessing Alexis feels badly for her brother as well!     Looking forward to hearing that the white rice bag worked for you!

  11. I washed my son's Ipod the other week…. we put it in rice immediately..waited the 48 hours and nothing.. However, my son did not throw the Ipod away,he just put it in the cupboard. Low and behold last week, I went in the cupboard for something else, and the IPOD works. Keep in rice for a week!

  12. I have a good feeling about the rice!    When my husband does the laundry he inevitably finds money in my pockets -he always holds it out, hand closed around it and asks me if I can identify it – by which he means tell him EXACTLY how much it is – and if I can't tell him to the penny – he says "nope not yours! must be mine!"   Which is fine when it's a handful of change but last week it was twenty bucks!  boo!

  13. we did the rice thing  … twice (yup, didn't learn the "check the pockets" the first time … it took 2 ipods!) for us, it didn't work but maybe we didn't leave it long enough.  🙁  hope it does the trick for y'all! 🙂

  14. Oh girl!! Been there – except Tyler dropped his in the lake! No amount of rice could have fixed that baby as it was over 200 feet down, lol! We ALL do this – and I am hoping the rice works 🙂
