Flourishing Phrases- Artisan Blog Hop

This week the Artisans are sharing projects using a few different sets and one of them is Flourishing Phrases.

Flourishing Phrases was my top pick with the timeless greetings to choose from.

Backgrounds Using a Greeting

Artisan Blog Hop, Flourishing Phrases, Stampin' Up!

The Flourishing Phrases has a beautiful selection of greetings inside of this set.  Have you ever considered using one of the greetings as part of your background?

For this card I simply stamped the Thank You greetings along the entire left side of the Whisper White cardstock using Sahara Sand ink.  I love how this gave the card more interest.

The flower was a simple addition using the Flourish Thinlits.  The florals within this collection are so intricate and delicate looking.

I used the Fine Tip Glue Pen to attach the flowers and leaves to this card.  The fine tip on this glue makes attaching intricate die cuts a cinch.

I love the delicate touch this card has and the color combination jumped out at me.  Bermuda Bay paired with the Cucumber Crush has to be one of my favorites.  It’s a clean look and even more bold when you add Basic Black.

Creating a Shadow Image

My favorite image in the Flourishing Phrases stamp set is the large flower.

Instantly I thought of an old technique that would be fun to use with this large image.

Artisan Blog Hop, Flourishing Phrases, Stampin' Up!

Create It!

  • Stamp the large flower onto Crumb Cake cardstock using Whisper White Craft ink.  Let dry or use a heat tool to facilitate the drying.
  • Stamp the large flower again over the Whisper White flower using Watermelon Wonder ink and slightly offsetting the image. By offsetting the image, the Whisper White gives the illusion of a shadow.
  • This technique can be used with any stamp set, but tends to look the best using a large solid stamp.
  • According fold the 3/4″ music note strip of designer series paper from the This Christmas collection.  Attach to the 1″ x 4″ strip of Watermelon Wonder cardstock.  Attach 2 small pieces of a Delicate White Doily and attach to the Crumb Cake cardstock.

  • Stamp the greeting onto a piece of Crumb Cake cardstock.  Die cut using the Layering Circles Framelits.  Wrap and attach a piece of Linen Thread to the underside of the die cut circle, attach to the card front.
  • Layer the Crumb Cake cardstock onto a piece of Watermelon Wonder cardstock and then onto a piece of Crumb Cake cardstock measuring 4-1/4″ x 11″.
  • Attach a few sequins around the stamped flowers using a Fine Tip Glue Pen.

PS- I survived my trip to the dentist.  It wasn’t bad at all. In fact I had worked myself up into such a tizzy that I felt ill after the procedure over my anxiety and not the actual procedure.  I’m a HOT mess.  No lie.

Tips & Tricks

  • The solid flower image does not have a thinlit.  This flower needs to be fussy cut but don’t fret… it’s a simple fussy cut.
  • I placed a die cut flower in Smoky Slate over the top of the stamped solid flower image and then placed a Metallic Enamel Shape in the center to give it a little more pop.  These inexpensive embellishments have a WOW factor for any project.
  • The greeting was stamped using Smoky Slate ink onto Whisper White cardstock.  I die cut the image using the Lots of Labels Framelits, then cut the label as close to the greeting as possible and tucked it underneath the patterned paper.
  • The Dapper Denim and Smoky Slate color combination is a winner.

This card  has the same layout as the first one, but there are a few changes in the embellishments and colors.

Tips & Tricks

  • A simple addition of adding Cucumber Crush ink on the contrasting Whisper White cardstock was a complete different look for this card. I love how the leaves pop and the Affectionately Yours Washi Tape just added to the WOWSA factor.
  • I added a little Silver Metallic Thread behind the flower and pulled in another Metallic Enamel Shape to the center flower.  Love how it all comes together and looks matchy matchy.  That is success in my book.

Back at Home…

Wanted to say a quick BIG thank you for your prayers for my dad.  He’s back at home after having a cardioversion on Monday.  He’s doing well but very tired.  He’s been given orders to rest so lets hope he does that.  He’s a man with his own agenda clearly…

Happiest Place on Earth- Survival

Happiest Place on Earth- Survival

I survived.  Being at the happiest place on earth, also known as Disney World… I survived.

First, I didn’t mean to take a 4 day break from work but then again it served me well.  I had every intention on working during my down time while we were in Orlando and even brought the computer.  The truth is, there is no downtime when you are at the happiest place on earth.  You are constantly on the go go go, just ask my legs that can barely move.

Although we were in Orlando for Alexis’ gymnastics meet it would have been shameful not to pay Mickey a visit.  Alexis had a great meet and even taught her mama a very valuable lesson this weekend.  Her scores were not her best but we knew going into this meet that her scores would be lower as this was the first meet competing at a Level 7 gymnast.  This was a huge jump for her because now her routines are “her own” instead of compulsory (made up for her).  It’s a little more fun for her as she can choose her music for her floor routine.  Overall she did pretty darn good on all events.  Her bar routine was a MESS and the score she received definitely proved it.  BUT… it’s something her coach will be fixing as there was a missing element that Alexis had no idea about.

Directly after her bar routine she went to beam.  Already a little spooked over the bar scores she went to beam with a smile on her face.  Her beam routine was not her finest, but it’s what she did that made my heart swell with pride and truly a lesson for all of us.

Her mount onto the beam didn’t start off well and she ended up back on the ground.  Then a turn on the beam went south as well.  She fell.  It was at this moment I thought for sure she was going to say, forget it.  I could see from afar that the tears were coming. She back away from the beam and puts her hands on her head, takes a deep breath and without blinking an eye she is back on that skinny stick they call a beam.  I couldn’t believe it.  She then does her back handspring but fell again.  I noticed however at this point she was moving like normal, very graceful.  She ends with her two back walkovers and dismounts and smiles.

Friends, she fell off 3 times.  THREE.  At the end she was smiling.  She came running over to me afterwards (kinda a no no) to tell me she was so excited that she did her back handspring.  Even though her coach was there to spot her she said she didn’t need her.  Yes, she fell but she did it.

She never mentions the other falls….

It was determination to not give up.  To look defeat in the face and move forward.  What I learned? Remember that moment that I said she stepped away from the beam and took a deep breath? That’s the moment.  Stepping away and taking a deep breath.  Regrouping-  gathering your thoughts knowing that what she was doing was not working but getting back up there and trying again.

So many times I have thrown a hissy fit instead of “regrouping!”  It’s never helped. It’s defeat.  I learned to step back and regroup.  In the end she shined and the best part was the score.  Although it wasn’t amazing, it wasn’t bad either considering the 3 falls.

Yes, my heart was GINORMOUS. I hate to see my kids have to deal with things like this but I know how much they grow when they do.  We do too. It’s never easy.

Sunday was our free day and we chose to spend it at the Animal Kingdom Park.  I hate to admit this but I’m not a huge Disney Park fan.  I love the magic of the place. I love the rides.  I love everything there except the crazy crowds.  The poor children look overwhelmed and by 3pm they are a crying mess.  The parents faces by this time are crinkled up and angry looking.  Seriously, after 3pm it’s all downhill for these people.   Meanwhile, mom of the year here didn’t get Fast Passes because of our spur of the moment decision to go to the Animal Kingdom and we were left watching the human safari of people walking around.  Entertaining to say the least.

Overall it was a fantastic time and I loved being with Alexis the entire time.  What a fun age this is for her.

We traveled home yesterday in some pretty nasty weather.  I drove my dads car to Orlando since Russ had a fender bender with my car last week. My car needs a little surgery.

Our ride home was pretty uneventful until 2 miles from home. There were tornadoes in the area that we kept hearing about but everything seemed fine.  Then all of a sudden the rain was coming down side ways and the car was rocking back and forth.  I was at a complete stop and debris was flying everywhere.  I heard a loud thud and just knew something had hit my dad’s car.  All of a sudden this 45 year old felt 16 again.  What was my dad going to say??

I believe we came into some straight line winds and it felt like a tornado.  Scared doesn’t even touch how I was feeling.  While there is no damage to my dads car (thank you Jesus!) I am pretty sure I wet my pants during the moment.

We made it home safely and our weekend is complete.  4 days of fun, and entertaining all the way home.

Now, I do have something pretty to share as well.  And a HUGE thank you to all of you for the kindest comments EVER.  I love you guys. Seriously, I am so grateful for all of you.

Botanical Blooms, Stampin' Up!, Thank You Cards

Botanical Blooms as you know has been a hard set for me to use but guess what? The more I play with it the more I’m loving it.  I’m becoming a “flower” girl.  WHOA!

Botanical Blooms, Stampin' Up!, Thank You Cards

My favorite part of this card is the vellum overlay.  I used the Botanical Gardens Designer Vellum Stack and it’s SO pretty.  So delicate and SO free with every $50 order.  LOVE THAT!

Botanical Blooms, Stampin' Up!, Thank You Cards

I love the look of the layered   Lots of Labels Framelits.  Simple but elegant.

The leaves that I die cut remind me of feathers.  You know how much I love feathers? They are so delicate looking.

Creation Station- Something New!

Creation Station- Something New!

Creation Station…something new I’ve dipped my hands into and I think you will love the creative sparks that come from it.

Creation Station, Stampin' Up! Demonstrator

You know I’m always up for something new and exciting.  I was asked to be a part of the Creation Station- a Global once a month blog hop team and thought, WHY NOT?

November, Kimberly Van Diepen, Stampin' Up! Demonstrator

First, Happy November!  This is my favorite month.  It’s my birthday month, thanksgiving AND my bestie is coming into town to craft like a manic with me.  OH MY WORD… hang on to your pants.  It’s going to be FUN!

This month for the Creation Station the theme is “thankful” and we’re using the Lighthearted Leaves stamp set and Washi Tape.  I didn’t feel the sting of the challenge until they said Washi.

WHAT? You want me to use my beloved, hoarded WASHI Tape? Oh dear…

Do you hoard Washi Tape like I do? This could possibly be worse than my Designer Paper hoarding issue.  I have baskets, drawers and this cool looking ring thing-a-ma-bob that holds my Washi Tape.  I have a Washi problem.  Here is the bigger problem… sometimes I am stuck because I’m not sure how to use it.

You might remember last Friday I did a cool trick with my Washi Tape for THIS card…

That’s really once in a blue moon that I come up with a cool idea using the Washi.  Otherwise, I’m pretty BORING with my Washi Tape.

For instance… let’s talk about todays card.

Creation Station, Lighthearted Leaves, Stampin' Up! Demonstrator

I knew when I started to design this card I wanted to use Vellum and Gold.  I love that combination.  The tricky part about Vellum is getting it to stick and not seeing the adhesive.  I took the easy way out (not unusual for this lazy stamper) and did a quick straight stitch down the center of the leaves.  You can see I added a bit of color to make the leaves stand out a little more.

Creation Station, Lighthearted Leaves, Stampin' Up! Demonstrator

I wanted to use a different “thanks” so I used the Cottage Greetings stamp set for this greeting.

Creation Station, Lighthearted Leaves, Stampin' Up! Demonstrator

You can see how I laid three different pieces of the Washi Tape behind the leaves.  Simple Dimple and gives the card  dimension and a great background.

You can find all the supplies for this card at the end of this post.

Now get ready to take a tour and see what the other team created using this stamp set and Washi.  I’ll bring my notepad to take notes on this hop.  I’m sure I’m going to learn a thing or two about Washi Tape.

Acorny Thank You-Stampin’ Up!

Acorny Thank You-Stampin’ Up!

I’m feeling a little nuts today so I thought why not stamp a few nuts or acorns…

Acorny Thank You, Stampin' Up!

I’m in a bind again where I need a lot of thank you cards.  This set is coming in handy just for that purpose plus fits the season.  It’s also a perfect stamp set because it has a coordinating punch that fits the acorns.  YES!

New Trick!

So my trick is probably only new to me but I wanted to share just incase you want to try it too.  If you look at the picture below and zoom in on the actual acorn you can see there are many layers.  I decided to layer many of the acorn tops that I punched out to make it thicker.  I loved how this looks on the card because it makes it really stand out.  I used the Fine Tip Glue Pen to glue the layers together and it dries FAST.  Maybe a bit too fast.  I might try Tombow Multipurpose next time because that gives me a little more wiggle room to get them lined up correctly.  I love that fine tip however on the glue pen.  It’s so perfect. You might remember when I did the same thing using a framelit for this card HERE.

Acorny Thank You, Stampin' Up!

I added a few layers of ribbon and sewed a messy stitch along the edges to keep them in place.  Very simple stitching, nothing fancy here.

Acorny Thank You, Stampin' Up!

Overall this card has a framelit and a punch that coordinates.  The banner was die cut using the Itty Bitty Framelits.  The added wood elements completed this card. Do you love the wooden elements? I don’t know about you but these are the kinds of things I hoard.  I have to make a conscious effort to use them. I love them so much and they are darling… which is why I hoard.  That’s my challenge for you today.  Pull out your hoarding stash and put it to use. It’s only going to collect dust if we don’t use it and I don’t know about you but dusting is not my thang!
