TGIF #24- Sketch Challenge

TGIF, Challenges, Stampin' Up!

TGIF #24, Stampin' Up!, Sketch

TGIF! Oh my word I am so glad it’s Friday.  Seriously! It’s been a whirlwind week.  One that makes me want to sit back and ask, WHAT happened? My office is in shambles-still.  Stuff piled everywhere as I run from project to project between kids, Russ and Church.

When I started to create for this week’s sketch challenge I had a pile of “fun” or what I like to call other names on my desk.  Things that “didn’t make the cut” from another project.  Most of the time I put these little things in a bin near my desk.  I like to pull things from there now and then.

I decided to pull all the “fun” on my desk and make something with it.  I figured I had the sketch for inspiration and now I just needed to coordinate the goods with the sketch.  It worked although I did waiver a bit from the sketch challenge.  Well, the bottom is not centered… you will see. <eek>

TGIF #24, Stampin' Up!, Sketch

I started with the strips of Home for Christmas DSP and the the circle I had die cut using the same DSP with the music notes.  I took a piece of scrap Vellum cardstock and laid it over the music sheet DSP. Then I layered the DSP strips over that. I did a bit of sewing across the layers of DSP to keep them in place.   Once all them were layered together I die cut them together using my Circles Collection Framelits.

TGIF #24, Stampin' Up!, Sketch

I then layered this onto a piece of Cherry Cobbler cardstock that I also die cut from my Circles Collection Framelits.  I swear I cannot live without my circle die cuts.  For sure.

The last little piece of this card was adding the Gold Glitter ribbon which is actually applied to the card the opposite side.  So no glitter seen, just the matte finish of that ribbon which I also loved.  I also added a pretty button from the Home for Christmas line and adhered this to the cardfront.

Trying to keep to the sketch as much as I could I decided to add little stitching to the bottom of the card and then the sentiment.

See what the other TGIF designers have created and be inspired.  We hope you play along.

Have a FANTABULOUS weekend.  I’ll be a bit off the grid as I spend time with the family.  Much needed opportunity.

TGIF #22- Gift Giving Made Easy

TGIF, Challenges, Stampin' Up!

It’s not even funny how LAZY I am when it comes to gift giving.  I’ve even succumbed to having my daughter take on the task of picking it out, wrapping and then my job is the card.

I’m not sure why this is so difficult for me except when you are the “master of procrastination” my mojo leaves and I flounder for an idea on what to make.  If you are reading this you probably are with me on the fact we love to make the pretty stuff…. BUT… it’s coming up with the idea of the “pretty!”  Right?

Solutions-

I might have a solution for all of us and it’s two fold.

First if you are not taking part of papercrafting challenges I highly suggest you do.  It only stretches your creativity to the max capacity and sometimes makes you step outside of your comfort zone.  Whether it be style, colors, project type, you will see a difference in growth with your papercrafting when you participate.  Being a designer for TGIF gives me the opportunity to step outside of my comfort zone and most definitely stretches my creativity.

TGIF 22 Remix

This weeks challenge is a Remix of all the challenges this month.  I lurrrrvvve this challenge.  This is when my brain gets some great exercise.  Below are the three previous challenges for the month. Take a few of them or all three and come up with a project.

TGIF September Challenges

Now for my gift giving solutions…

TGIFC, Watercolor Wings stamp set, Stampin' Up!

I though I knew the catalog like the back of my hand… NOPE.  I need to sit and go through the catalog myself with a fine tooth comb.  I thought for SURE the Tag a Bag Gift Boxes were long gone, retired.  Ha ha ha.  Oh no….they are quite available.  <seriously I need my head examined!>

This is the perfect solution for quick and simple gift giving AND you could look like the master crafter when giving the gift.  Little will they know it only took about 15 minutes to make it.  The boxes are FOOD safe and only $7 for 8 of them.  STEAL of a deal.  My most favorite part is the window sheet around the box so they can take a peek of the gift inside.  Unless you are me and hide it way at the bottom and put enough fluff they will think nothing is in it.

Tips & Tricks

The decorating part is fast, fun and simple.

I used our Envelope paper found on page 149.  I used the In Color Envelope paper and one of them is the Mint Macaron.  Take a 3 x 12″piece and wrap around the box.  Pinch the edges to make a better “scored” edge all the way around.  Next I cut a 2 1/2 x 12″ piece of the Typset DSP.  Using my Fringe Scissors (on SALE until Monday night 11:59pm) and fringed one end.  Gently wrap around the box, pinching edges like the previous and adhere to the box.

I wrapped a piece of Strawberry Slush Dotted Lace ribbon and tied it in a knot.  I secured a small Tea Lace Doily inside just for added fluff.

Lastly, the tag.  I used the most popular stamp set in the entire catalog- Watercolor Wings.  Did you know it’s the most popular? I found out that tidbit at Founders.  Pretty fun.  Once I had the butterfly stamped I die cut the image using the Tags & Labels Framelits.  I attached this by bringing the ribbon ends straight through the hole on the tag and tied a knot.  Simple and easy.

Now I have a fun gift for a birthday -or- any occasion.

The Card!

The gift needed a card to go with it so I made it match and again, kept it simple.

Same design basically with a few extra add-ons.

TGIF #19- Color Challenge

TGIF, Challenges, Stampin' Up!

Wahoooo!  It’s FRIDAY.  Are you excited? Plus it’s a LONG weekend.

Honestly, the only thing I can think about is sleeping in.

My amazing germ ridden kids decided to share their awesome cold.  Now I’m sporting a beautiful red nose and sound like I’m in a tunnel.  It’s real pretty friends.  Real pretty.

Nevertheless, I have something fun to share.

TGIFC19, Stampin' Up!, TGIF Challenges

You  know I’m all over a fun color challenge and even more so when I’ve got the sniffles.

Since my brain is a FOG it’s nice that I didn’t have to think really hard.

TGIF Challenge #19, Your Presents, Holly Jolly Greetings, Stampin' Up!

I decided to use a NEW stamp set called Your Presents.  I’ll be honest.  I wanted something solid to stamp.  Easy.  No cutting.  Stamp and run.

Does that make sense?

This set was perfect.  I stamped all the little gifts onto Whisper White cardstock and then used my Paper Trimmer to trim them down perfectly.

TGIF Challenge #19, Your Presents, Holly Jolly Greetings, Stampin' Up!

You can see here in the close up I popped a few of the gifts with dimensionals.  I also added a little bit of the Basic Black Bakers Twine.

Tip: I’ve noticed when tying bows with Bakers Twine that if I only use one strand the bow never lays the way I would like.  Try a double strand of twine and then tie your bow.  It lays flat just like you want every time.  No curling, or crazy turning of the twine.  Give that a try.

For the greeting I added another new stamp set and AWESOME new punch- The Holly Jolly Greetings has lots of great holiday greetings that are perfect for your holiday projects.  You know… comfort, peace, merry… and jolly.  These are just a few.  ALSO- this is a perfect set for my Project Lifer’s.  The words are perfect for word art or to add to journaling cards.  It’s a versatile set.  LOVE IT.

The Your Presents stamp set also coordinates with the Handpicked Framelits Dies.  That’s how the tiny black bow was created.

Overall, I love these colors together.  It’s got that vintage/retro vibe.

The last thing I added was the Metallics Sequins (you can see the clear and white sequins on the card).  Guess what… I didn’t know there was CLEAR sequins.  Umm- game changer.  Now I need more of that particular sequin pack because clear goes with everything.  Jeesh.  Just when I think I have a handle on the new catalog I’m thrown another curve ball.  CRAZY.

TGIF Challenge #19, Your Presents, Holly Jolly Greetings, Stampin' Up!

Now it’s your turn to play along with the challenge.  I hope you will.  This challenge group is made up of the best designers.  They create beautiful cards.  You can see them all HERE.  Create a card using this color challenge and leave a comment below that you did so I can go check it out.

Back to School, Epic Alphabet, TGIF Challenge

You’ll understand where today’s creativity comes from after I tell you the latest….

First, I love my kids the same.  Let’s get that right out the door.  But what is it about boys and their mama’s???

I’ve got a heart breaker for you today.  I needed an entire box of tissues for this one.  It wasn’t pretty.

So the kids are back in school and Brandon is a new freshman.

If there is one sacred time in our house it’s dinner time. It’s where we gather. It’s where we can chat and listen about each other’s day.  It’s where we pray together.

Alexis doesn’t always get to sit and eat with us due to her gymnastics schedule but no worries… we hear her talking ALL the time. *wink*

The other day at the table Brandon was discussing his new found friends at the high school.  He was telling us all about the “hot” girls, too.  One of them started talking to him.  If you could only see the smile on his face- priceless!

Of course this mama bear started getting nosy and I also heard that homecoming was coming soon.  I remember those fun times like they were yesterday. I loved high school.

This is where the story went downhill and my heart is just crushed.

When I asked Brandon about homecoming he looked at me and said, “Mom, really? Look at me! I wear glasses, I wear braces and I’m not that hot guy.  I’m a nerd!”

Stop.

I have to breathe for a minute.  Truly this crushed my heart because I never knew how lacking his self confidence was.  Never. EVER.

*Just so you know I held all tears back until I was alone and I could have that good ugly cry.*

I was heartbroken that he felt this way about himself.

I knew we had some typical boy issues that we needed to get a handle on such as:

  • showers longer than 5 seconds.
  • shampoo needs to be rinsed out so you don’t look like a grease blob.
  • deodorant is meant to be worn, not a counter top decoration
  • a comb is a tool to use on your hair…

Anyone with teenage boys or grown boys?  Does this REALLY get better??

All of these are typical 14 yr old issues… fixable at least, right?  All of which could probably help the self confidence too, right?

Of course I said to him, “Really B? You feel this way?”  He answered quickly with yes!  After telling him I thought he was out of his mind and that he was the cutest guy I know besides his daddy, I could tell he wasn’t buying any of it and he quickly told me so.

I know this is normal stuff for teenagers to feel but I didn’t think my kid would feel this way.  He is so darn cute.  He is so funny and he is SO SO lovable. He still hugs and kisses me in front of other kids.  He doesn’t worry about that kinda stuff. He is that lovable.

After we left the dinner table and I had my ugly cry, I was on a mission.

I told Brandon he was getting a make over.

I also went over the main rules of boyhood above.  “Son, a shower should take you longer than 5 seconds and your hair should be wet when you come out of the shower!” Seriously, he has showered and come out with DRY hair.  When asked why it was dry he says…  “I don’t know?” <REALLY??>

Can anyone relate to this?

Just to be clear… I’m not looking for him to be the most popular and personally do not want girls falling all over him.  I just want him to feel good about himself.  It’s time to uplift him.

This is where my card comes in and I’m killing 2 birds with ONE stone.

Today’s card…

Back to School, Epic Alphabet, TGIF Challenge

I’ve also noticed that his confidence level in his school abilities has decreased.  He is second guessing his choice to be in the IB program.  I thought I would boost his confidence a bit with a card.  He has a test coming up so I thought I would give him a little pep talk within the card. When making this I had the mind of a teenager.  Keep it simple and keep it manly.  I think I crushed it.  What do you think?

I’ve also been leaving both of them uplifting mama quotes on post it notes on their bathroom mirrors.  We did this when Russ was depolyed and the kids loved it.  They still do. Something very simple but filled with love.

It’s a challenge too…

I’m multi tasking this week (like all weeks) and this card fit perfectly for the challenge this week for the TGIF challenge. It’s time to mash up all the projects for the month and put something together. Please check out what the other designers have created and the challenge HERE.  I hope you participate too.

P.S. I’ll keep you posted on the boy.  Today he was fitted for contacts. Sigh… he looks so good and he’s so proud of them.

Have a FANTASTIC weekend.

Years From Now You Will Be Happy!

Years From Now You Will Be Happy! TGIF, Challenges, Stampin' Up!

For many of us the first day of school has passed.  We’ve jumped for joy or cried our eyes out.  You already know which mom I am.  Not afraid to say I was jumping for joy.  Like I said, I can’t keep these kids entertained all day.

We talked about first day of school traditions the other day and I’ve spent a good bit of time talking about documenting and capturing those moments.

Did YOU take that legendary photo of your kid on the front porch?

You might remember my photo from the other day HERE.  Honestly I can’t be that fancy photographer in the morning.  I was the mom with her pajama’s on… no bra and my hair sticking up all over the place.  My eyes were barely open because the mascara I forgot to take off was melting my eye lids shut…. I had coffee in one hand and the iPhone in the other to get the picture.  My kids looked scared in the pictures not because of school but their mother standing on the porch looking HIDEOUS.  Not kidding.

There was no time for the cute signage to be made saying what grade they were in nor was there any time to pose.  If I’m being REALLY honest I had to run down the street after Alexis (that was NOT pretty mind you) because I almost FORGOT to get her picture.  I figured I could photoshop/picmonkey the signage later. <genius I am!>

Now putting ALL that aside, let’s be real for a second….

There are a lot of emotions going on in those kids brains that first day of school.  Especially for the wee ones stepping into Kindergarten.   What are they thinking? Scared? Happy? Abandoned? These are the things we should document.  AND we should also document how WE are feeling.

Yes it’s true… I was jumping for joy.  I was also a wreck thinking about my son (who I’ve not seen a hint of puberty hit) and his first day of high school with these ginormous kids standing around him.  I wanted to text him all day and ask how he was.  Was he scared?

NO, I didn’t do that.  Thought about it… but I let him spread his itty bitty wings…

Let’s get to the meat of things….

Today, I share once again something I am SO passionate about. Telling that story AND it’s a great day for a TGIF challenge!

TGIFC17, Project Life, Back to School, Stampin' Up!

I am pretty excited about this Project Life layout because it’s a 12 x 12.  PLUS, I’m giving you a sneak peek of a GREAT new Stampin’ Up! Project Life kit available on Sept 1st called Seasonal Snapshot 2015 Project Life Card Collection.  Stampin’ Up! did an AMAZING job with the graphics for this kit.  It includes Back to School, Halloween, Autumn, Thanksgiving and Christmas.  LOVE it.

Let’s take a closer look…

TGIFC17, Project Life, Back to School, Stampin' Up!

So many elements in the accessories kit that I love.  Stickers (who knew I love them so much still?), wooden elements, clips, sequins… WAY adorbs.

I did my editing for the photos in two different places.  First I did some editing in PicMonkey and then finished in Photoshop Elements.  I didn’t do much honestly.  Just a little color adjusting and then of course I added some elements to the photos such as the year and school.

You can be as FANCY as you wish!

TGIFC17, Project Life, Back to School, Stampin' Up!

With Project Life you can be quick and easy or fancy and free.

I decided to get a little fancy on a few pockets.  I decided to use the wooden elements and sequins in a 2 x 2 sleeve then I used my sewing machine to close off the pocket.

This layout I tried something VERY new.  I printed my journaling directly onto my pocket card.  I was able to get it done correctly on the first go BUT… I needed my margins over slightly more.  Next time this process should go a little smoother.

Make it work for YOU!

TGIFC17, Project Life, Back to School, Stampin' Up!

Remember I said I didn’t take many photos.  Therefore I had a few naked pockets to fill.  Because of the sleeve I chose I needed one more 4 x 6 pocket card.  Since I had none left in the color scheme I took 2- 3 x 4 cards and put them together.  I loved how this turned out.  Meet your needs and you will be happy.  Besides, this is YOUR story….

I’m happy as a clam that I have their first day of school completed.

Now… hang on.  I have MORE ideas for you.  Seriously… this has been a great week of inspiration.  It’s our weekly TGIF Challenge and this week you do not want to miss.
