Artisan Inspiration- Frosted Medallions

Artisan Inspiration

The Artisan Team has a special line up of inspiration today.

The Artisan team is winding down from a fantastic year of sharing our projects with YOU.

I could go on and on how this team has been so AMAZING, but I’ll save that for another day when I can get really sappy with you. I know, I know… you can barely wait.  Ha Ha Ha.

Quick Update

I’m back from a whirlwind trip to the Western Caribbean.  Oh my!  What an amazing trip with my best friends!

The highlight of my trip was many, but this picture below could sum it all up!  I’ll be sharing more pics soon.

Frosted Medallions, Kimberly Van Diepen

This was in Roatan, Honduras on a private beach.  The day was beautiful, but the fun was these crazy monkeys.  I have never been this close to a monkey- EVAH.  This was a memorable moment and made me smile the ENTIRE day!

Let’s Stamp!

Today I’m sharing another set that was jumping out of my stamp cabinet to be used- Frosted Medallions.

Both of the cards I’m sharing were tough cookies to photograph with all of the white.

Frosted Medallions, Stampin' Up!, Artisan

I have to admit that New Year cards are might be the least occasion I create cards for.  Not sure why?

I do love the beautiful fonts in the Frosted Medallion stamp set and of course the gorgeous snowflakes.

Ha, I actually love stamps with snowflakes now that I’m in Florida.  Its the only type of snowflake I see.

Create It!

When I started creating this card I was instantly drawn to the colors Black, White and Silver.

I couldn’t help but grab the beautiful snowflake pattern paper from the This Christmas Designer Series Speciality Paper. It’s GORGEOUS and this is just ONE pattern I love.  This paper pack also has the beloved music notes.  It’s beautiful.

Tips & Tricks

  • Card base is Whisper White Thick cardstock (4-1/4″ x 11″).  A small strip of Silver Glimmer Paper (1″ x 5-1/2″) is attached on the far right side.
  • Fancy Frost Specialty Designer Series Paper (4″ x 5-1/2″).  Add a small strip of Basic Black cardstock (1/4″ x 5-1/2″) to the right side.  Adhere to card base using Dimensionals.
  • Add the This Christmas strip (1-3/4″ x 4-1/4″) across the Fancy Frost DSP.
  • Stamp the Happy New Year greeting at the bottom of the Whisper White cardstock (2-1/2″ x 4-1/4″) using Basic Black ink.
  • Stamp the snowflakes using Basic Black ink, then emboss using Clear Embossing Powder.
  • Wrap Basic Black twine along with the Silver thread.  Add two Jingle Bells by threading them using the Silver Thread.  Tie securely into place then add another knot just below the bells.  Trim ends.  Add a small piece of the Silver Glitter Ribbon and staple into place.
  • Attach a doily behind the Whisper White cardstock then attach to card front using dimensionals.
  • Add sequins to finish the card.

Big Big Snowflakes!

This card definitely was NOT easy to photograph, hopefully you can see the gorgeous white embossed snowflakes from the Frosted Medallion stamp set.

It could be my aging eyes….

I love the white on white look and how elegant the snowflakes look embossed.

Frosted Medallions, Stampin' Up!, Artisan

The colors remind me of a beautiful snowy day…. but with a touch of elegance.  I love the Silver Glimmer Paper added with the Silver Glitter Ribbon.  Just brings it all together.

See all the products used for both projects in the clickable links below.

The last little bit that I added was the Christmas Trinket embellishment to the Glitter Ribbon.  This was a simple task using a sewing needle and the Silver Thread.  Once attached I tied the thread in bow.

Tip: Double the thread will make it easier to tie the bow.  It’s a very very thin thread.

Wrapping it Up!

The Frosted Medallion stamp set is perfect for winter cards or New Year’s.  Truly a beautiful set with gorgeous snowflakes.

The Frosted Medallion has a beautiful suite of other products that coordinate.  Make sure to check it out HERE.

Time To Escape The Crazy

Time To Escape The Crazy

Sometimes my little family lets me escape the crazy, crazy life that is.

This weekend it’s happening!

About a year ago my dear friends and I planned a get away.

Escape the Crazy, Hang Your Stocking, Stampin' Up!

Crazy Happens Before the Escape!

Let’s face it… in order to escape the crazy things have to get really crazy!

I can attest that the last two weeks have been SERIOUSLY crazy in our house.

I’m not kidding…

  • The new gymnastics club we joined we also quit due to professional issues.  We joined a new one unfortunately same distance of 45 minutes each way.
  • Russ breaks his ankle which creates a driving fiasco but blessed he didn’t need surgery and he’s in a walking cast.
  • Volunteering and the daily motherly crazy.

The interesting part is when I’m this crazy busy, I’m really organized and my time management is AWESOME.  I don’t understand it, but I get things done as if I had a super power.  It’s crazy and awesome all at the same time.

Should I Stay or Should I Go

When Russ broke his ankle, I was seriously considering canceling my escape.  I had an over whelming guilt over flowing leaving the Prince as he hobbled around.

The Prince would not hear of it.  Then it was like he was going to prove he was completely fine to manage the household.  He’s done amazing.

I’m feeling like he has got a good handle on the crazy and ready to hobble the house like a Prince.

Now I’m really going to escape.

I’ll be floating on a big big boat in the middle of the Western Caribbean.  Yahhooooo!

Stamping Retreat

This trip is actually a stamping and scrapbooking retreat.

Oh my word!!  Escaping to stamp and scrapbook on a cruise?

Pinch ME!

Those attending have created swaps as well.  I’m pretty excited.

Here is the card I created for the card swap.

Escape the Crazy, Hang Your Stocking, Stampin' Up!

I used the Hang Your Stocking stamp set and Christmas Stockings Thinlits to create this card.

Below are a couple tips & tricks when creating this card.

Escape the Crazy, Hang Your Stocking, Stampin' Up!

Tips & Tricks

  • Create the snowflakes using the snowflake from the Tin of Tags stamp set.
  • The Designer Series Paper comes from the This Christmas Designer Series Paper.
  • The color combination is Smoky Slate, Pool Party and Bermuda Bay. A color combination that I’m in love with.

  • Metallic Enamel Dots completed this card.  I love how these enamel dots look on any projects.

Kickin’ It Up With Kimberly

Kickin’ It Up With Kimberly

Are you ready to Kick it up a Notch with you’re stamping?

Something new and exciting is happening!

It all started with a little conversation with a dear friend.

Encouraging Friends

We all have that friend who breaths encouraging words in our ears.

The other day I was speaking to one of my Stampin’ Up! friends and she was encouraging me to do more videos.

I gave her the same ole excuse that I always give… “What could I possibly show someone on a video? What can they learn from me? I can’t do that! I don’t have time!”

Have you ever experienced a long laundry list of excuses like the ones I was giving?

Really I felt this way.  So many times I hear from stampers… “I can’t do what you do.  I don’t know how to take my cards up a level or two!”

My friend then said these words…..

“Kickin’ it up with Kimberly!”

Instantly I fell in love.  Now the big problem came… I had to actually make the video.

The End of Procrastination

After I spoke with my friend and she brilliantly and graciously helped me see past my own fears, I said I would give it a try.

It was time to pull out the video camera and give it a whirl- AGAIN!

My goal is to help stampers see the potential within themselves to take their cards to a new level.  To see and use embellishments more than they are currently.  Most of all, enjoy the process of creating.

Two Cards, Two Ways

Kickin' It Up With Kimberly, Stampin' Up!

Now kick this card up a notch with just a few more additions….

Kickin' It Up With Kimberly, Stampin' Up!

One of my favorite things about the stamp set Star of Light is the interpretation of the images.  They could be stars, or in my case I interpret them to be snowflakes.  Either way they are beautiful.

Watch the video today and see how I take one card and kick it up a notch.  It’s a subtle change that can pack a big punch.

Kickin' It Up With Kimberly, Stampin' Up!

The Star of Light bundle creates beautiful cards and the coordinating framelits saves you much time as you do not have to fussy cut.  Simply die cut using the Starlight Thinlit dies and attach.

Kickin' It Up With Kimberly, Stampin' Up!

As I’ve said many times, you can take a fairly simple card and spice it up quickly with a few embellishments just as I’ve shown you in the Kickin’ it up with Kimberly video.

A huge thanks to my friend for encouraging me AGAIN…  to step outside my comfort zone and get before the camera AGAIN.  She’s a keeper.

Shaker Cards Bring Joy!

Shaker Cards Bring  Joy!

It doesn’t matter if you are 2 or 92, anyone that receives a shaker card gets joy out of shaking the card and hearing the razzle dazzle from the card.  Not only does it bring joy it creates happiness.

I tested my own theory on my kids.  They love when I make a card that moves, shakes and of course a card that holds green dollars with “certain” men on the front.  Not all men on those dollars create that excitement. Do you know what I mean?

Seriously, I was fiddling in my office when Alexis walked in and I had this card sitting on my desk.  She picks it up and immediately starts shaking it to death.  She grins and I’m only praying that the foam tape (dimensionals) that I have placed securely around the portion of this shaker is holding on tight and we don’t have a massive shower of metallic stars everywhere.   She created quite the shake on this card.  The real joy was the smile it created for her.

Think about it… It BRINGS joy!

Shaker Cards, Flurry of Wishes stamp set, Stampin' Up!

The true confession comes when I tell you I kinda cheated on this card.

I have the fun card kit in our Holiday Catalog called To You & Yours Shaker Cards and I’ve wanted to open it.  But I have a disease called hoarding….  and all of those sequins and chunky clear glitter that comes with this kit pushes me over the edge to where I don’t want to use these precious little toys incase I run OUT of sequins.  If you were sitting in my room with me RIGHT NOW you would be laughing so hard your head might roll!  Me, run out of sequins… I’m one FUNNY girl.

Shaker Cards, Flurry of Wishes stamp set, Stampin' Up!

I was so determined to use the bag of star sequins from the kit I over filled it.  Now I have a perfect excuse to order more.

Shaker Cards, Flurry of Wishes stamp set, Stampin' Up!

I started this card by using Crumb Cake cardstock.  I have a piece of 4 x 5 1/4 on top of the card base that I stamped with Whisper White Craft ink and the Flurry of Wishes stamp set.

The shaker was created using the Banner Framelits.  To create the shaker I die cut 3 banners using Whisper White, a Window Sheet and then the Soft Sky cardstock.  I then die cut the Soft Sky banner with the Perfect Pines Framelits Dies.  I used the smallest tree in that framelit set.

I added one last detail to this card that’s kinda fun.  I wanted a perfect snowy hill.  I used one of the Sleigh Ride Edgelits Dies to create the nice round edge.

Of course I felt compelled to embellish with a few of my favorites I have laying around such as a button, twine and a doily. I also used the Christmas Greetings Thinlits for my greeting.  LOVE these die cuts.

I’m excited to send this card this year because I know it will bring joy to the person that receives it and they will shake it like crazy.  I will continue to pray there are no areas breached and my beloved sequins will not go flying out of this card.

If you are looking to create these with ALL the materials you need at your finger tips, Page 4 of the Holiday Catalog has the perfect start- To You & Yours Shaker Cards Project Kit.  Awesome kit, tons of sequins, and chunky clear glitter (be still my heart).  Otherwise, get your sequin stash out and have fun.   Unleash the sequins….

Simple Little Snowflakes

I guess in reality snowflakes are not very simple.  They are these complicated little pieces of beauty that I like to see come and go… FAST!  I'm just praying this side of the East Coast doesn't see snow like they did last year. Tonight was a simple night for me.  I made it that way.  I had quite a few complicated issues that needed to be tended to and I pushed them all to the side so I could make a complicated card.  Ahhhh… it's the simple things! Right?  Of course one card ended up taking a few right turns but the other one I'm sharing is simple as can be!

If you are a Big Shot fan you will dig this.  In the Mini catalog there is a beautiful Decorative Strip for the Big Shot called Northern Frost (#120901).  BEAUTIFUL snowflakes that are so delicate. The Decorative Strips are great for card makers and scrapbookers.  Check this out:

See how delicate they are?  I placed the Antique Brads into the center of each of them and then sprayed it with Shimmer Mist (that's a little Frost Shimmer Paint and Alcohol mixed together).  Love this antique look/feel that comes from this card.

Then the night took a few turns and the sewing machine came to life.  Here is what happened then:

I layered those delicate snowflakes onto each other and they just made me melt.  I sprayed the entire Vanilla cardstock piece with Shimmer Mist which the camera does NOT like to photo.  It really makes it look over done and from my eyeball view it's not.  Pffft!  Then I added the ribbon with the sewing machine and I fell in love with this vintage winter card.  <sigh> Overall, very glad I have the Northern Frost Decorative Strip because I see many more cards in my future.

I didn't get a chance to write or create much this weekend as my little family kept me busy.  We had a great weekend.  I am completely drawn to the fall colors here in Virginia.  It's so stunning!  I wanted to get a few pics of the kids with the leaves in the distance and here are the little ham bones in action.

The first picture of them running holding hands makes me smile.  The best part was they were not "coached" to hold hands.  They just did it!  This brings a big smile to my face.  Now the biggest boy of all didn't get his picture taken because he was a little sad faced.  Russ has a new hobby playing with RC planes.  It was kinda the reason for going to the big field.  I of course had a different agenda!  He was so excited to fly one of his planes.  We watched it go up…. and immediately right DOWN…in pieces!  That's when his face turned pretty sad.  Luckily these are not the expensive planes and made just for new RC guys like himself.  Needless to say we picked up the pieces and came home.  I think Russ is going to practice a little more on the simulator.  *smile*

Well thanks so much for stopping by!  I hope your week is simply amazing!
