Picture Perfect Rose

Picture Perfect Rose

I did it again! I pulled out my Picture Perfect stamp set and this time worked with the rose image.

Today’s card is sweet and simple and involves a perfect little rose.  It also has a new In Color used- Flirty Flamingo!

Rose, Picture Perfect, Stampin' Up!

I’ve played with this rose image many times with many different color combinations and I have to say this was my favorite.

The only color not listed above is the Flirty Flamingo.

Tips & Tricks

  • The rose image has 3 steps to stamp.  The first image I used Blushing Bride.  Second was Flirty Flamingo, and third Watermelon Wonder.
  • The Vellum leaves were die cut using the retiring Bouquet Bigz L Die Cut.

  • The greeting was stamped and then die cut using the Banners Framelits.
  • The striped designer paper is from the Timeless Elegance Designer Series Paper and then matted on a piece of Flirty Flamingo cardstock.

Is it Really Picture Perfect?

Is it Really Picture Perfect?

Nothing is ever perfect in my book anymore but it’s darn close and I have peace with that.

Oh that word perfect can get the best of us.  Especially me.

Perfect is a bad word for me because perfection is something I take to heart and I’ve had to learn over the years to let that go.

I’m. Not. Perfect. BUT…

Phew.  What a RELEASE….

Well, it was until I pulled out my Picture Perfect stamp set from Stampin’ Up!

My Perfect Relationship with the BIRD!

Picture Perfect, Stampin' Up!

This weekend I had a virtual stamping palooza with my bestie.  It’s awesome fun where we pick a stamp set and create and then share our work with each other.  We ohhh and ahhhh and truly it’s the best thing.  Obviously it would be 100% better if we were actually together, but this is perfect for us given the miles between us.

Well, she chose the Picture Perfect stamp set.  I’ve been able to successfully stamp every image except that sweet hummingbird.  In fact I’ve been a bit jealous of the cards I’ve seen with him.  He’s beautiful… when others stamp him.  Every time I stamp this bird he looks like a big blog.

My friend came to my rescue and gave me a few tips and I thought I pass along to you because they WORK.  YAY! I also did a little research on the colors of the bird and that helped me decide my color choices.

Picture Perfect, Stampin' Up!

This is the bird I found and I loved the colors around his neck.  Isn’t he a cutie??

Stamping the Bird Perfect…

Well, it didn’t happen.  I didn’t stamp him perfect.  BUT… I was so close I just let it go.

Picture Perfect, Stampin' Up!

If you look closely… his beak is slightly off a wince.  From afar… oh it’s perfect.

Look from afar.  <grin>

Tips & Tricks

Here are a few things I found helpful when stamping Mr. Bird.

  • On the acetate that your images come on you have numbers that tell you which image to stamp.  Instead of stamping the images in order 1-4, try stamping image #4 and working backwards.  This was a tremendous help.
  • Stamp the bird image upside down.  At first I thought my friend was silly.  She’s not silly at all.  This also helped in lining up Mr. Bird.
  • Ultimately, if you own a stamp-a-ma-jig this would help you tremendously.  I am terribly lazy and tried the eyeball technique.  You see it needs a little work.
  • The colors I used for the bird starting with image #4: Sahara Sand, Pear Pizzaz, Melon Mambo, and  Basic Gray.

Create It!

Stamp with me using the instructions below.

  1. Fold Whisper White Thick card base in half (4-1/4 x 11).  Mat Basic Black cardstock 3-7/8 x 5-1/8 and Whisper White Thick cardstock 3-3/4 x 5-1/4 together using Fast Fuse.  Adhere onto center of Whisper White card base.
  2. Adhere Basic Black cardstock 1 x 5-1/2 to the back of the English Garden Designer Series Paper 2 x 5-1/2 so that 1/4″ shows.  Adhere over the Whisper White cardstock towards the left of the card.
  3. Attach a Tea Lace Doily along with a large gold Metallic Doily to the card.  You will only need a 1/2 of each doily.  Place a small piece of Burlap Ribbon onto the doily.  You will notice my Burlap is slightly tattered looking.  Just pull on the threads gently to tatter and fray the ends.  Attach over the doilies using Multipurpose Liquid Glue.
  4. Stamp the hummingbird using the method and colors I shared in the Tips & Tricks section above onto a scrap piece of Whisper White cardstock.  Die cut the image using the largest label framelit from the Lots of Labels Framelits.  Trim the top of the label off using trimmer.
  5. Attach White Corrugated cardstock 1/4 x 2-1/2″ across the label near the hummingbird.  Attach a small piece of Tea Lace Doily over Corrugated cardstock.  Stamp the greeting onto Basic Black cardstock scrap using Whisper White Craft ink.  Pour White embossing powder over greeting and heat emboss.  Trim as close as you can around the greeting.  Attach greeting over Tea Lace Doily.
  6. Attach label framelit to the card front using dimensionals.
  7. Splatter Melon Mambo and Mossy Meadow carefully over label framelit using Aqua Painter.

Rejoice in Imperfection!

Let’s face it, whether we get it perfect or not let’s rejoice that we took the time to create and enjoy the process.  I’m going to rejoice in the imperfection and remember to let go of that ugly word called perfect.  I hope you do to.  I hope you will let me know your thoughts on Mr. Bird.  If you have this set, what colors have you tried using.  I wanna hear.

Simple Note- Picture Perfect

Simple Note- Picture Perfect

Welcome to another Artisan Blog Hop.

Life is not picture perfect, right? There is one thing that can be and that’s being creative. While our projects may not be picture perfect in the eyes of others, it can be in our own.

The Picture Perfect stamp set was an instant eye catcher for me when I had seen the starfish.  I love starfish and being close the to the beach I am lucky enough to see them when I go to the beach.

Russ and I also have a fish tank full of starfish.  They are tiny little guys but they are so cute.  I couldn’t wait to stamp the starfish but I was perplexed as to what color to use.

I decided to do a google search and see what colors would come up.  I was blown away.  I had NO idea there were so many different colors of starfish.  Finding my colors for my project became really easy.  I could use almost any color.

I decided to go with Blush Blossom and Calypso Coral.  Since this is a 2-Step stamp, I started by stamping the Blush Blossom onto Whisper White cardstock.  Once the image was lined up, I stamped over the first image using Calypso Coral.

Wink of Stella Tip

To create a textured background I used the Timeless Textures stamp set.  To create the Gold splatter marks I used the Gold Wink of Stella Pen.

I simple brushed over the image with the pen and then stamped.  I loved how this turned out.

Other Tips & Tricks

To add layers to this card I used a Tea Lace Doily, and the Blush Blossom ribbon from the Love Blossoms Embellishment Kit.

To keep things in place I decided to give it a quick stitch across the starfish, ribbon and doily and the first layer of cardstock.

I get many questions about stitching on cards.  I use to have a designated smaller sewing machine that I used always for cards but that machine petered out recently.  I started using my regular sewing machine which is a Singer.  I’ve never had any problems, so far.  Hopefully I’m not jinxing myself.

Another addition to this card I fell in love with are the tiny Acrylic Dots.  These can also be found in the Love Blossoms Embellishment Kit.  I love the color of these dots as well as the size.

This transition is TOUGH!

Transition is TOUGH!

Transition is SO tough… I don’t know what my problem is but I’m having a terrible time transitioning from Christmas to “what now?”

Maybe it’s because I’m not over Christmas yet? It’s funny because I was talking to Alexis as I was stamping and she said to me “Mom, are you so excited to be moving on from Christmas stuff?”

Honestly, no!

I packed up all of my Holiday Catalog items so I could focus on the next catalog and maybe that is exactly my problem.  Maybe it’s not a transition problem,  maybe I’m mourning my Christmas pretties? Regardless… bare with me.

Transition is Tough, Picture Perfect, Stampin' Up! Demonstrator

I played around with the new stamp set Picture Perfect today.  Beautiful images and two of them require a 3 Step Stamping.  C R A Z Y.

Yes, this rose was stamped 3 times to get the different texture and colors.  SO pretty.

Wink of Stella

My favorite of this card is not the rose however.  It’s the use of the Gold Wink of Stella.

I used it 4 different times in 4 different ways….

  • Used as a SPLATTER
  • Used to color the ends of the Vanilla Thick Twine
  • Used on the edge of Designer Series Paper
  • Used over the watercolored area to add sparkle (clear pen used)

Wink of Stella is going to be a FANTABULOUS  new tool for stampers.

Tip: To use this tool as a splatter, simply tap close to the brush with your bone folder or finger over the area you want to add splatter.  Try this on a scrap piece of paper before doing this on the real deal.

Transition is Tough, Picture Perfect, Stampin' Up! Demonstrator

I started this card by creating a watercolored background on Watercolor Paper. Look closely and you can see a little bit of a shimmer from the Wink of Stella.

Now, something I would NOT recommend: Stamping your photopolymer greeting onto the Watercolor paper.  Umm… not recommended.  I think the paper has too much texture and unfortunately the ink pooled in a few areas.  For this card,  it was the last thing I stamped and there was no going back.  I had to own this mistake and move forward.
