Urban Underground, Creation Station, Stampin' Up!

I’m quite aware that the Occasions catalog will be coming to an end soon. There are so many products I need to play with.   One product I haven’t used enough and I’m quite giddy over is the Urban Underground Suite.  I love the paper especially.  It has an eclectic feel, and the blacks, grays, and silver are perfect to use with any color of my choosing.

Today I’m sharing a card using the Urban Underground Suite.  I realize some of these products are discontinued. I hope you will be inspired by not only the products but the design elements of the card as well.

Today’s blog hop will also inspire you with a more masculine style for projects.

So Eclectic!

One of the things I was drawn to with the Urban Underground Suite is the fun patterns in all of the products.  The pattern paper is by far my favorite.  Because I planned to use this card for one of my Fathers day cards, I kept with a blue color tone for my card. Maybe I should have made the Prince a pink one…  I’m sure he would still enjoy it.

As the transition of catalogs happens over the next month, my FAVORITE thing is mixing retired and new products together.  I used a new thinlits for this card called Seasonal Layers.  Honestly, I’ve already worn this die cut OUT.  I love the scallop die cut within this Thinlits set.  You can see the scallop I added to this card on the left side.  It’s hard to see because it was die cut using Basic Black cardstock.

Tips & Tricks

Here are a few tips when creating this card.

Urban Underground, Creation Station, Stampin' Up!

  • I ran the small strip of Urban Underground DSP through my Big Shot using the Hexagons Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.  To get a deeper impression try spritzing your paper with water first, then run through your Big Shot.
  • The Urban Underground Embellishments are self-adhesive. There is a total of 24 in a package, 8 each of 3 designs.  Truly a fun embellishment to add to any man card you desire.
  • The card front layer includes both designer series paper and the Urban Underground Washi Tape.  The Washi Tape is perfect for coordinating with the designs of the DSP.

Think Outside the Box

One last thought I will add to this product suite, it doesn’t have to be all about the man.  I think when we see products built around each other or especially with certain color choices, we tend to think it’s only for one gender.  I can see so many great ways the designer series paper can be used for very girlie cards.  Don’t forget, the stamp set can be used outside of Father’s day too.

Great news…The Urban District stamp set is on SALE… only $15.20 until the end of May.

Handmade Cards for Him

Handmade Cards for Him

I wish I could say that I made Russ cards often but that’s not really the case.  I’m more of a sticky note kinda girl.  I leave them everywhere with little lovey dovey words and I do the same for my kids. The bathroom mirrors are usually plagued with my sticky notes all the time.

I thought I would shake things up and make him a card instead of a sticky note.

By the Tide

I decided to use a set that hasn’t seen ink in awhile and one that I love, By the Tide.

By the Tide, Stampin' Up!

I’ve used every image in this set except of the Lobster.  When I was looking at accessories to go with this card I giggled when the Winter Wonderland Designer Vellum Pack jumped at me.  This particular piece reminded me of fish net.

While I was at the OnStage event in Tampa I received the Tag a Bag Accessory Kit as a prize.  I haven’t purchased one of these before and for shame for shame.  This little kit is filled with lots of great items.  One of them that made me squeal out loud was the smaller tea doily’s.  I had no idea they were smaller let alone in the kit.  Also, the twine inside this kit is fantastic.

You can faintly see the designer paper behind the vellum.  If you look closely you can see polka dots.  I used the Happy Haunting DSP.  It was perfect for this card.

Tips & Tricks-

I used the Itty Bitty Accents Epoxy Stickers on the right side of the card to give the illusion of bubbles.

I stamped the Archival Basic Black ink onto the small strip of Vellum Cardstock.  If I was to re-do this card I would emboss the black ink with Clear Embossing Powder to give it a raised feel and look.

The thank you greeting came from the One Big Meaning stamp set.  Awesome thank you set filled with great images.  Check it out HERE.

WOW! Thank you for the list of sets you want to see you used my friends. We have a WINNER too.  Scroll to the bottom to see if you are the WINNER…

I’ll be busy for a bit getting some inspiration into your hands.  Some of the sets I do not own but I think I might be able to cover them a different way.

The common theme I could see from the comments was MAN CARDS.

Here I thought I was the only one that gets stumped or grumped when it comes to the man card.  I’m not kidding.  I get grumpy when I have to make one because I’m not using the typical supplies I use on other cards. Ribbon, lace, doilies, bling… these are common pieces I use for my cards.  A man card though… much different.

I think of man card and the first thing that pops in my mind is – PLAIN JANE. Except it’s not for Jane…

I decided to dive in and play a bit with some of the manly sets I have.  Just know that the struggle is real for me too.  I sit and contemplate what else the card needs.  Sigh…

Masculine Cards, Stampin' Up!, Guy Greetings
Let’s start with Guy Greetings.  I loved this set in the catalog and my favorite image is the weight lifter man.  Then it arrived and it’s sat collecting dust.  The weight lifter man now scares me.  He’s creepy.  Well, it’s a good excuse not to use it… right?

I decided to dive in and tackle this crazy man fear I have lately.  I knew you guys would be behind me with full support.
I decided to pair a few stamps together and this made the manly stamping a bit easier.  I used The Open Sea and Guy Greetings together for the card above.  I also used one of the easiest stamping techniques I know- Rock n Roll.  To make the background softer once I stamped it, I placed a piece of Vellum the same size over the stamped Whisper White paper.  I love how this turned out.  You can see the supplies listed below.

The next card I also wanted to use some Designer Series Paper.  I have a stash that is screaming to be used.  This card uses all of Guy Greetings and no other sets. I love how this DSP coordinates with the shoes in the stamp set.  Pretty Classic.

Masculine Cards, Stampin' Up!
What do you think of Guy Greetings? ? These are fairly easy cards with not a lot of fancy schmancy, but I love it.
