Creative Gift Packaging Ideas

Creative Gift Packaging, Creation Station, Stampin' Up!

Do you struggle at this time of year with creative gift packaging ideas?

Today the Creation Station team has a blog hop filled with creative packaging and gift gifting ideas.

Creative gift packaging can mean all sorts of things.  A few things that come to mind are tags, bows, and boxes.

I thought I would show you a little of each today and one is a fun project you can create in no time that can serve as an ornament and a pretty embellishment to a package.

Wreath Ornament

Every year my mother places a new Christmas ornament on each of our packages and they are so pretty hanging from the gifts.

I wanted to use her idea as my inspiration to get started.  Then I found a fun idea on Pinterest and ran with it.

A simple wreath created using Ball Jar Lids. It’s SO fun and EASY!

Creating the Wreath

You only need a few supplies to get started and embellishing the wreath can be very simple.

Here are the supplies you will need to create the wreath:

How To Create the Wreath

  1. Simply take any burlap ribbon or in my case the Kraft rope ribbon, and begin by placing a little hot glue inside the jar lid to hold your ribbon in place.  Once you have gone around the entire lid, wrap a few more times to create a finished look.  Hot glue will keep the ribbon in place.
  2. Wrap a piece of Bakers Twine or Gold thread so you can hang your wreath from a Christmas tree or your gift packaging.
  3. Be creative with embellishing.  I used the Pretty Pines thinlits to create the pine needles at the top of one the wreaths.  Then I finished off the wreath using Very Vanilla 1/2″ Lace Trim to create the bow.

I used the Holly Builder Punch to create the holly leaves for the other wreath.  Very simple, yet elegant.

Quick & Simple  Gift Tag

One of my go to products from the Holiday Catalog this year has been the White Gift Boxes.  They are the perfect size and easy to embellish.

The best part of these boxes are the clear belly band that comes with each box.

The boxes measure 3″ all around.  I took a 3″ x 12″ piece of Fabulous Foil Designer Acetate and wrapped inside of the clear belly band.  It was a perfect fit and gave this box a little more fancy.

Creating the Tag

  • Adhere a piece of Whisper White cardstock (3″ x 3″) to the top of the box (over the clear belly band).
  • Stamp a few pines onto the Whisper White using Garden Green and Pear Pizzaz inks using the Christmas Pines stamp set.
  • Create pine needles using the Pretty Pines Thinlits.  Attach to the Whisper White cardstock using a glue gun.

  • Create a tag by using the Lots of Labels Framelits with your Big Shot.
  • Stamp the greeting from the Christmas Pines stamp set using Whisper White Craft ink.  Heat emboss with White Stampin’ Emboss Powder.  Punch a small hole at the top.
  • Wrap the Cherry Cobbler 3/8″ Silky Taffeta ribbon into a bow a few times and attach to box using a glue gun.
  • Attach Gold thread to the tag and thread a few of the Mini Jingle Bells to the thread.  Attach tag to box with a glue gun.

Creative Explosion!

Yes, I'm calling it a CREATIVE Explosion because I've been so busy the last three days and I'm about to give you a CREATIVE explosion of projects.  I feel the need to catch you up to speed!  Grab a drink and sit awhile.  It's a big ONE!

This weekend I had a run on creativity.  It's not often I get that moment where all the stars align correctly and the creative mojo overflows.  When it happens I take FULL advantage of it and keep the creativity running until it just runs out.  The good news… it's not running out.  I don't know what it is lately but I am so excited about the products Stampin' Up! has available it keeps my mind on OVERDRIVE!

The colors on this card just make me HAPPY!  You know I'm a huge fan of the Summer Starfruit, but adding Basic Gray, Pool Party and Crumb Cake was icing on the cake.  I was also excited to try something new with the Window Frames.  I love these Framelits and all the great sizes that are available with it.  I used the smallest window frame and die cut 5 of them.  I started this card by die cutting one of the larger frames on a 4 x 5 1/4" sheet of cardstock. I then took the "stencil" of the Window Frame and placed it over the Summer Starfruit cardstock and sprayed the Gold Glow Smooch Spritz over it.  It created a nice spray of the Gold Spritz on the Summer Starfruit.  Once that was created and dried I stamped the smaller frames and adhered them onto the cardstock.  Overall, that Gold Smooch Spritz made such a difference.

Supplies Used:

Stamps: Border Banter, Fabulous Phrases

Ink: Basic Gray, Pool Party, Summer Starfruit

Cardstock: Basic Gray, Summer Starfruit, Crumb Cake, Pool Party, Very Vanilla

Accessories: First Edition DSP, Travel Journal Wheel, Chevron Textured Embossing Folder, Gold Smooch Spritz, Neutral Buttons, Neutral Brads, 2 1/2" Circle punch, Linen Thread, Little Label punch pack, Window Frame Framelit

I'm still working on my December Daily album.  I'm loving this and love that we will be able to look back on the daily memories of December 2012.  To make this album even more fun, once it's created and printed I plan to have the kids share their stories using our Talking Tags and placing them into the album.  HOW COOL IS THAT?

Are you looking for Creative gift packaging ideas? This small little "gift bag" was created using the Fancy Favor Bigz XL Die Cut.  This die cut has been a favorite of mine for a long time.  I decided to make a little gift bag to place a jewelry piece inside for a friends birthday.  It was a perfect fit.

To create the gift box, die cut your DSP using the Fancy Favor Bigz Die Cut. Make crisp folds on all the scored edges.

Put the box together except DO NOT adhere the bottom together.  Die Cut one of the Window Frames that can fit folded over the top of the box and fold over making a crisp fold.

At this point the decorating can be up to you.  I decided to take my nifty Sewing Machine and sewed across the Window Frame.

I then layered ribbon across and sewed that as well.  The buttons were hand sewn using Linen Thread.

I then attached a simple tag using my Vintage Trinkets and Viola', the gift bag was created.

Now, once you place your "giftie" inside simply close the bottom using adhesive.  I didn't use Sticky Strip like I normally would because I wanted my friend to open it from the bottom.

Clever packaging and she can re-use just like we re-use store bought gift bags.  You can find more great ideas for quick Gift Packaging HERE.

Supplies Used:

Stamps: Lovely Little Labels

Ink: Early Espresso

Cardstock: Very Vanilla

Accessories: Fancy Favor Bigz XL, Vintage Trinkets, Linen Thread, Bright Buttons, Faceted Glass Buttons, Jewelry Tag punch, Victoria Crochet Trim, Crumb Cake Seam Binding ribbon, Window Framelits, Fan Fair DSP

By now you probably have finished your drink.  That was a lot to take in.  Like I said, it was a Creative Explosion.  Thank you for sitting through it and hopefully it inspires you to create something pretty today.
