This Color Combination Could Be Tough

This Color Combination Could Be Tough

I’ve been sifting through a few color combinations trying to change up things as I create.

Do you ever find yourself using the same colors all the time?

I don’t notice it right away until all of a sudden I look at the pile of cardstock scraps near my desk and think to myself… WOW.  The same colors are used frequently.

One of my favorite Pinterest boards I have and pin to frequently is my Color Combinations board.  You can see it here.  It’s LOADED with colors.

I decided to pull a color off my ink shelf that has barely been used.  In fact I think it’s been used ONCE.  EEK.

Cucumber Crush is not on my favorite list of colors but I love a good challenge and wanted to see what colors I could pair it up with.  I thought it would be fun to challenge you too!

Ready for a weekend challenge?

Cucumber Crush -Color Combination

Color Combination, Apple of my Eye, Stampin' Up!

Are you thinking SUMMER? That’s what I instantly thought of when I looked at these four colors together.  It screams summer.

I thought of citrus, watermelon, and swimsuits to be honest.

Here is what I created using this combination.

Color Combination, Apple of my Eye, Stampin' Up!

The Apple of My Eye stamp set was top of my list.  Think lemons, limes, oranges and sweet slice of watermelon.  YUM.

Color Combination, Apple of my Eye, Stampin' Up!

Tips & Tricks

  • Stamp the round citrus image in all four colors onto Whisper White cardstock.
  • Punch using the 1-1/2 or 1-3/4 Circle Punch and then cut in half.
  • Create a tag using Crumb Cake cardstock and the Ornate Tag Topper punch
  • Attach the Citrus halves to the tag using Snail Adhesive and alternating with dimensionals.
  • Add a Gold Foil Doily for a little extra punch of color.

Confession Time….

You are not going to believe this…

As I was typing this I was looking to see what size punch I used for the citrus image. I noticed the Idea Book & Catalog states to use the 1-1/2 circle punch.

Quick thought to myself was… “Silly Stampin’ Up!  We don’t have a 1-1/2″ Circle Punch!”

Then I flipped to the pages filled with our punches.

WE DO have a 1-1/2″ Circle punch.

We’ve had this since JUNE!!! Where I have been??? How did I miss this???

Just when you think you know everything in the catalog- BOOM! You don’t.

Friends… You know what I’m ordering ASAP?

Yes. That. Punch!

Color Combination, Apple of my Eye, Stampin' Up!

Here is the good thing.  I managed well with the 1-3/4″ Circle Punch but I know the 1-1/2″ Circle punch is going to be AMAZING for layering.  Oh the opportunities I have missed.

TGIF, Challenges, Stampin' Up!

Color Challenge, TGIF, Stampin' Up!

Happy TGIF friends. Happy Color Challenge day!

It’s a GREAT day for a fun new challenge from the TGIF blog.  Yay! Yay!  This one is awesome and my kind of Christmas colors.  These remind me of a very vintage Christmas.  Pool Party and Real Red… what do you think? I’m pretty sure it’s one of the reasons I fell in love with the Home for Christmas Designer Series Paper this year as well.

For this challenge I decided to bring out one of my favorite sets- Snow Place.  A set that can make you feel like a kid again because you can dress up these great snowmen.  Also, you will see a helpful picture tutorial below when creating this card using the Little Letter Framelits making this card easy to create.

Color Challenge, TGIF, Snow Place Stamp set, Stampin' Up!

The Little Letters Thinlits are perfection when it comes to using them on cards or smaller projects.  Each letter is only 3/4″ high and the framelits come with all of the letters.

Color Challenge, TGIF, Snow Place Stamp set, Stampin' Up!

Behind the letters you will notice a piece of Typeset Designer Series Paper that is the same size as the Whisper White cardstock and sponged with Pool Party ink.  The snowflake from the Holly Jolly Greetings stamp set was White Embossed onto the Typeset Designer Series Paper.  I love how you can see the snowflake peeking through the letters.  Especially with Mr. Dapper Dan Snowman sitting next to it.

Quick Tips & Tricks

When I started creating this card one of the hardest things was getting the letters lined up each time onto the Big Shot and the letters not moving around.  Just so happened I had Washi Tape sitting right next to my Big Shot.

Once I lined up each of the letters I placed a strip of Washi Tape across the letters to keep them in place.  Occasionally you will notice when using the Magnetic Plate for your Big Shot that the Framelits might shift upon placing them down.  This happens over time and usage.  By taping the letters together you will decrease the chances of any shifting.

Why Washi Tape? It’s very forgiving. You can peel the Washi Tape up and your cardstock will not tear.  Please note, I first tried this technique using the Thick Whisper White cardstock.  This cardstock is not as smooth as our regular Whisper White.  The Washi Tape was not as forgiving with the Thick Whisper White cardstock.

See photos below:

By placing the Real Red cardstock behind the letters diagonally it made the word SNOW stand out even more.

I may not be seeing snow here in Florida however I’m lucky I get to play with the Snow Place stamp set and make my own snow using the Little Letter Framelits.

TGIF, Challenges, Stampin' Up!

Today is one of my favorite types of challenges- COLOR.

Today’s color challenge feels all crisp and fall like.  Something I still haven’t felt here in Florida.  In fact right now I am running around in my favorite active wear capris and flip flops.  Yes, I am one of those freaks who loves to wear her active wear for the sake of comfort and nothing for actually working out in.  It’s the truth.

If I can’t get the crisp cool air yet that Fall typically brings, I can create like I’m feeling the crispy air.

The Cheer All Year stamp set helped me out a bit too.

I am using a product today that I haven’t touched since it came out in June.  I know, I can’t believe it either because it’s the coolest stuff ever.  The Crushed Curry polka dot background comes from the Color Me Irresistible Specialty DSP.  Oh so fun.  With the help of a sponge and Crushed Curry ink I changed the paper from blah to WOW because the paper resists the raised embossed areas. That simple.  Great way to take a white background and make it any color you wish with our amazing color line with Stampin’ Up!

Quick Tips-

I decided to layer the ribbon and then add the feathers which were stamped onto their matching cardstock.  I love how this looks and need to remember to do it more. I am quick to grab Whisper White cardstock and just stamp away, forgetting that when you stamp an ink onto it’s matching cardstock it looks fantastic.

Like I said yesterday, a great way to layer the ribbon is using the Multipurpose Tombow Glue.

TGIF#15- Color Challenge

TGIF, Color Challenge,

This week’s color challenge for TGIF is certainly going to be a favorite.

Color Challenge, TGIFC15

I love the touch of gray in this color challenge!

TGIFC15, Color Challenge, Stampin' Up!, Vintages Leaves

WHOA.  The Vintage Leaves stamp set is now at the top of my FAVORITE list.  The matching Leaflets Framelits are PERFECTO!!  The stamp set is a photopolymer set that stamps SO crisp.  Oh how I love, love, love.

There are a few fun NEW products from our upcoming Holiday catalog  you are SURE to love.  To name a few…

  1. See the adorable wooden acorn element? This comes in a set of 30 pieces that include acorns, a leaf and a cute little wooden banner.  They are dainty and perfect for cards or scrapbooking.
  2. The sentiment for this set comes from a darling stamp set called Cheer All Year.  This set is going to be a fan pleaser.
  3. Lastly, if you look at the Basic Gray cardstock closely you will notice the textured embossing on it.  This embossing folder is called Woodland Textured Impressions.  It’s FAB!

TGIFC15, Color Challenge, Stampin' Up!, Vintages Leaves

You may notice a little glam on this card… here is a fun TIP:

It’s a little Multipurpose Glue mixed with water and then I used an old Aqua Painter (or old paint brush) and tapped it over my card.  Sprinkle some Gold Glitter over the splatter glue mixture and BAM… a nice card with glitz.

This card puts a big ole smile on my face even though it talks about Autumn.  I’m not quite ready for Fall yet but I do know I love creating with Holiday products.  Total delight.

CYCI #44 – Color Challenge

CYCI #44 – Color Challenge

Time for another challenge on this beautiful Sunday with Can You Case It.  This time it’s a fun color challenge.

CYCI44, Can You Case It, Color Challenge
Today’s color challenge works with two of our newest In Colors and I love the way these two colors are so RICH in color.

CYCI #44, Color Challenge, Stampin' Up! If you are looking for a simple card, this is perfect.  Only a few layers, and no fussy cutting.  Simply stamped and die cut using the Stars Framelits.

CYCI #44, Color Challenge, Stampin' Up! If you see a little shine on the stars that is because I clear embossed each of the stars from the Bright & Beautiful stamp set to make them stand out more.  I also embossed the stars on the Very Vanilla cardstock.  This added a bit more texture to the base of the card.

CYCI #44, Color Challenge, Stampin' Up! I couldn’t help but add a little stitching to the stars using a Vanilla thread.  While the buttons are not spot on as for color, they add the perfect contrast for the colors.

Tip: I wanted a vanilla twine for the button so I used the Natural & Old Olive Two Tone Twine and unraveled the twine discarding the Old Olive twine. This was a perfect match for my Very Vanilla card base.  Create a banner easily using the Hexagon Punch to create the “V” on the ends of banner.

Ready for a challenge yourself? Come along and play along.  Join the challenge and see other inspirational cards created with these colors HERE.
