The Stamp Set That Stole My Heart!

Yes, Beautiful Ride Had me from the Beginning!

A Beautiful Ride was one of the first sets that my eyes had hearts fluttering from them when I opened up my Occasions catalog last November.  BIG hearts.

It’s a set that has so many great images and plus I do love a fun watercoloring event when time permits.

A Beautiful Ride

Beautiful Ride, Stampin' Up!

The bug car has been the favorite image of the bunch because it’s WIDE open to possibilities.  SO many great ways to color it, however in true Kimberly fashion it seems like I’ve managed to color it the same Pool Party color most of the time.  Okay, not always but the color Pool Party seems to be my favorite.

If you missed a few of my cards using this set, you can see them HERE and this one was a HOOT HERE.

Beautiful Ride, Stampin' Up!

Tips & Tricks

  • I used the Circles Collection Framelits (retiring) to create a large circle cutout so I could position the bug car to appear it was “passing through.”
  • The bug car was stamped onto Watercolor paper and colored using an Aqua Painter.  I did a little fussy cutting around the bug car.  Remember, watercoloring shouldn’t be perfect.  Coloring outside of the lines is awesome and leaving a few spots open is okay too.  I say this because it took me a LONG time to remember this.  It’s always a throw back to my kinder teacher telling me to color inside of the lines.
  • A small strip of White Corrugated paper (retiring) is positioned beneath the Basic Black punched star strip.  The stars were created using a framelit from the Mini Treat Bag framelits.
  • Last little detail was the It’s My Party Enamel Dots.  I’ve loved these and I’m completely out of the yellow ones.
  • I used the Timeless Textures stamp set to create the “road” that the bug car is driving on.
  • A small amount of splatter was created using my Aqua Painter and finger over the focal image.

A New Journey- Babies

A New Journey- Babies!

Before you get too excited let me say this is NOT a new journey for me.

Oh no!

Having a baby is definitely a new journey, isn’t it? I know all the mom’s out there are shaking their head YES!

Crafting is a Journey!

I’m chuckling as I write this tonight because this card was such a JOURNEY!

I was cooking  up another card with a completely different stamp set and all of a sudden I had an idea.

I pushed all of the other supplies aside and jumped on the idea while it was fresh in my mind.  I honestly didn’t need a baby card but when you have an idea you just RUN with it.

A Journey Begins, Baby, Stampin' Up!

The idea started with the Designer Paper- Sweet Li’l Things.  My girlfriend Debbie was using it and I was so embarrassed I didn’t recognize the pattern she was using.  In fact, I thought she was using paper from another company.  When she told me that it was Sweet Li’l Things I looked on my paper shelf and there it SAT.  All alone.  Dust bunnies growing on it.

The clouds, animals, stars… oh my the cuteness is overload.

A Journey Begins, Baby, Stampin' Up!

As I was building the card and adding the clouds I wanted something other than the typical “baby” greeting.  I went on the great search in my stamp collection and immediately the stamp set Beautiful Ride stood out.

A Beautiful Ride, Stampin' Up!

My eye was instantly drawn to the greeting “The Journey Begins!”

Tips & Tricks

A Journey Begins, Baby, Stampin' Up!

There are a few helpful tips when creating this card.

  • The baby onsie, was die cut using the Baby’s First Framelits Dies using Shimmery Paper.  I gently watercolored the die cut using Tangerine Tango ink and an Aqua Painter.
  • The Greeting was heat embossed using Basic Black ink and Clear Embossing powder.  Then I watercolored over the greeting using Hello Honey Ink and trimmed closely to each of the words using my snips.
  • There are strips of Designer Paper under the Vellum square.
  • The clouds were punched using the Tree Builder punch.  I punched the clouds and then layered two clouds together and sponged over them using Pool Party ink to darken the color.  Layering punches is my new favorite thing to do.

A Journey Begins, Baby, Stampin' Up!

The stamp set Beautiful Ride can be used for so many occasions besides weddings and couples.  Think about graduation, new job, babies… These are just a few ideas.

Card Fail and Re-Do!

Card Fail and Re-Do!

It happens more than people think inside this stamp room of mine.

It’s the final moments of creating the card.  All is going beautifully well.  I’m just adding some finishing touches and BAM… RUINED. I mean RUINED.

There are many many cards that have almost hit the trash but somehow I have saved… until this card.  It was a complete disaster and for a challenge card no less.

Let me share….

First, today is Friday so that means it’s time for a TGIF challenge.  It’s a super fun sketch I think you will love.

Card Fail, TGIF Challenge, Stampin' Up!

I started this card using the Beautiful Ride stamp set.  I love this bug car and the other images that go with this set are amazing fun.

Beautiful Ride, TGIF Challenge, Stampin' Up!

Once I had everything watercolored and the entire card set in place and adhered down I thought it needed one more thing… a little splatter.  It’s like an obsession I have.  Kinda like my obsession with doily’s.  I also love me some splatter.  Until it’s out of control like this…

Beautiful Ride, TGIF Challenge, Stampin' Up!

Now my couple looks like they are part of a murder scene.  Who knew Watermelon Wonder ink could look like a bloody mess? I tried to save the card by re-doing the couple.  Nope.  The windows on the bug car were to far gone.  It didn’t look pretty at all.  Most of the time when this happens I have to walk away and gather my thoughts because I’m so mad at myself.  Not this card.  I laughed so hard I almost wet my pants.  This was FUNNY!!

So, I started from scratch.  A complete re-do!

Beautiful Ride, TGIF Challenge, Stampin' Up!

Much cleaner.  No more murder scene.  Just a lovely couple probably enjoying a cozy moment alone.

Beautiful Ride, TGIF Challenge, Stampin' Up!

Tips & Tricks

I used Watercolor Paper and Basic Black Archival Ink to watercolor the Bug and couple images.  One tip before you start watercoloring, heat set the images.   I stamp the images and then I take my heat tool over them to make sure they are good and dry.

The images are watercolored using an Aqua Painter and Inks.  I used Watermelon Wonder for the Bug Car.  You can see all the inks used in the supply list below.

When I first stamped the stars they were really bright using Daffodil Delight. When I was re-creating this card I changed the ink to So Saffron (had to bust out a duster on that ink pad!) Using that color was much softer. Then I added a Vellum overlay to create an even more softer look.

What do you think? Notice the re-created card has NO splatter.  I thought I would not risk it a second time.

Would love to hear from you!  Plus, don’t forget to play along in the challenge.  You can see what the other designers created HERE and play along.

Refreshed and Renewed!

Refreshed and Renewed!

Happy day friends.  I hope you had a wonderful holiday and like me are coming back refreshed and renewed.

I don’t know about you but I needed the last few days off.  I enjoyed being with my family and absolutely loved sitting on my couch taking long naps and doing NOTHING.  I thought about doing a lot but ended up enjoying the fact that nothing was pressing.

We had a wonderful Christmas and have enjoyed extended family that traveled from Colorado and Iowa.  It’s been all about the food and being together, for that I’m grateful.  It’s been great having my kids home too.  It’s been a stressful school year for both of them.  I think the four of us can say we are feeling refreshed and renewed.

Renewed

I walked into my stamp room tonight and it was quite the disaster.  The Christmas aftermath was pretty evident and I felt a bit overwhelmed walking into the disaster.  I spent a few hours cleaning up and then started clearing out the old and getting ready for the new Occasions Catalog toys.  Oh BOY!

Time to Stamp

I’m excited to share another card using one of the new sets I’m head over heels for.  I recently shared a card HERE using the stamp set Beautiful Ride. What an awesome stamp set with excellent options in this set.

Refreshed and Renewed, Beautiful Ride Stamp Set, Stampin' Up!

I watercolored using my Aqua Painter and Watercolor Paper.  I had to do a little fussy cutting but I’ve found when watercoloring this love bug I get better results when using my Aqua Painter and Watercolor paper.  I also watercolored the surf board using the same technique and then once cut I placed it carefully on top of the car.

Refreshed and Renewed, Beautiful Ride Stamp Set, Stampin' Up!

Finish it Up!

To finish this card I added a few strips of the It’s My Party Designer Series Paper.  This is the party paper to have.  Bright and happy and great for any celebration.

I placed the car on top of the Designer Paper using dimensionals.  Lastly, I added the greeting onto a banner.  Isn’t this a fun greeting? Life is a beautiful ride, isn’t it?

Refreshed and Renewed, Beautiful Ride Stamp Set, Stampin' Up!

I think this is going to be a stamp set you will love especially if you love to watercolor.

This and the many awesome new products coming in the new catalog will be available on January 5th and that’s just around the corner.

Meanwhile, there is still time to grab the fun products from the Holiday Catalog and don’t forget…

Love Bug and Weddings!

Love Bug and Weddings!

Oh dear!  Quite possibly I found a stamp set that rocked my world in a crazy way.

I’ve secretly always wanted a bug car.  I think they are the cutest cars ever.  Typically its not so much the body of this car that intrigues me but the colors and of course the added eye lashes that I see people add always make me want it even more.  Yes. That stays between me and you.

I was creating Saturday and had a wedding card on my list of “need to create.”  When I was going through my pile of stamps there were many that stuck out and were easy to use for a wedding card but this couple that is getting married are young and hip.  They needed young and hip.  They needed a bug car.  <grin>

Beautiful Ride

Love Bugs, Beautiful Ride, Stampin' Up!

Can this bug car stamp be any cuter? I love the greetings and the accessories that go along with the this car. The trailing cans was added perfection for this card.

Create It!

This stamp set, Beautiful Ride will be available on January 5th.  I used another stamp set called Timeless Textures that I’ve featured a few other times this month and it’s going to be a MUST HAVE stamp set for your collection.

I stamped the love bug and luggage onto Watercolor paper and then used my Aqua Painter along with inks to watercolor.  Before stamping the “love bug” onto the car door I used my heat tool to make sure the ink was good and dried.  I fussy cut the car and was able to stamp the trailing cans easily before I adhered the car down.  You can see the Timeless Texture images under the car to give the road effect as well as a few splatter areas.

Love Bugs and Weddings, Beautiful Ride, Stampin' Up!

I loved that luggage on top of the love bug.

Love Bugs and Weddings, Beautiful Ride, Stampin' Up! Of course a card is never complete without an envelope.  It was stamped and ready to deliver.

While this set has some time before it’s availability you CAN get your hands on this set if you want.

Kimberly Van Diepen Stampin' Up! Demonstrator

Well friends, I’m pretty sure I probably won’t be sporting a bug car anytime soon but I can live vicariously through the people that are driving them.  They may wonder why I stare.  I’ll be dreaming its me behind the wheel.

Thanks for stopping by and tell me what you think of this card today.

XOXOXO
