Years From Now You Will Be Happy!

Years From Now You Will Be Happy! TGIF, Challenges, Stampin' Up!

For many of us the first day of school has passed.  We’ve jumped for joy or cried our eyes out.  You already know which mom I am.  Not afraid to say I was jumping for joy.  Like I said, I can’t keep these kids entertained all day.

We talked about first day of school traditions the other day and I’ve spent a good bit of time talking about documenting and capturing those moments.

Did YOU take that legendary photo of your kid on the front porch?

You might remember my photo from the other day HERE.  Honestly I can’t be that fancy photographer in the morning.  I was the mom with her pajama’s on… no bra and my hair sticking up all over the place.  My eyes were barely open because the mascara I forgot to take off was melting my eye lids shut…. I had coffee in one hand and the iPhone in the other to get the picture.  My kids looked scared in the pictures not because of school but their mother standing on the porch looking HIDEOUS.  Not kidding.

There was no time for the cute signage to be made saying what grade they were in nor was there any time to pose.  If I’m being REALLY honest I had to run down the street after Alexis (that was NOT pretty mind you) because I almost FORGOT to get her picture.  I figured I could photoshop/picmonkey the signage later. <genius I am!>

Now putting ALL that aside, let’s be real for a second….

There are a lot of emotions going on in those kids brains that first day of school.  Especially for the wee ones stepping into Kindergarten.   What are they thinking? Scared? Happy? Abandoned? These are the things we should document.  AND we should also document how WE are feeling.

Yes it’s true… I was jumping for joy.  I was also a wreck thinking about my son (who I’ve not seen a hint of puberty hit) and his first day of high school with these ginormous kids standing around him.  I wanted to text him all day and ask how he was.  Was he scared?

NO, I didn’t do that.  Thought about it… but I let him spread his itty bitty wings…

Let’s get to the meat of things….

Today, I share once again something I am SO passionate about. Telling that story AND it’s a great day for a TGIF challenge!

TGIFC17, Project Life, Back to School, Stampin' Up!

I am pretty excited about this Project Life layout because it’s a 12 x 12.  PLUS, I’m giving you a sneak peek of a GREAT new Stampin’ Up! Project Life kit available on Sept 1st called Seasonal Snapshot 2015 Project Life Card Collection.  Stampin’ Up! did an AMAZING job with the graphics for this kit.  It includes Back to School, Halloween, Autumn, Thanksgiving and Christmas.  LOVE it.

Let’s take a closer look…

So many elements in the accessories kit that I love.  Stickers (who knew I love them so much still?), wooden elements, clips, sequins… WAY adorbs.

I did my editing for the photos in two different places.  First I did some editing in PicMonkey and then finished in Photoshop Elements.  I didn’t do much honestly.  Just a little color adjusting and then of course I added some elements to the photos such as the year and school.

You can be as FANCY as you wish!

With Project Life you can be quick and easy or fancy and free.

I decided to get a little fancy on a few pockets.  I decided to use the wooden elements and sequins in a 2 x 2 sleeve then I used my sewing machine to close off the pocket.

This layout I tried something VERY new.  I printed my journaling directly onto my pocket card.  I was able to get it done correctly on the first go BUT… I needed my margins over slightly more.  Next time this process should go a little smoother.

Make it work for YOU!

Remember I said I didn’t take many photos.  Therefore I had a few naked pockets to fill.  Because of the sleeve I chose I needed one more 4 x 6 pocket card.  Since I had none left in the color scheme I took 2- 3 x 4 cards and put them together.  I loved how this turned out.  Meet your needs and you will be happy.  Besides, this is YOUR story….

I’m happy as a clam that I have their first day of school completed.

Now… hang on.  I have MORE ideas for you.  Seriously… this has been a great week of inspiration.  It’s our weekly TGIF Challenge and this week you do not want to miss. School Starts- Mom Rejoices

School Starts- Mom Rejoices

This might sound mean but the truth is- it was TIME for them to go back to school.  My kids are bored with me.  No clue why.  I keep them busy as bee’s cleaning around the house.  <girn>

Truthfully it’s a bittersweet day and I am rejoicing.  We embark once again on new beginnings.  Fresh starts and a great adventure awaits.  Of course these are all my feelings but I’m sure the kids feel the same way.

They were so excited to go to school this morning.  Brandon had a hint of nerves I could tell.  He starts High School this year.   CRAP! How did THAT happen?

As I’m writing I can feel my own nerves kick in.  First day in a new building.  Not many friends are at this school.  Brandon was proudly accepted into the International Baccalaureate Program.  It’s going to be a BIG year.  A vigorous year.  (Brandon doesn’t like that word!)  He says just say it like it is… HARD.  Last week he wanted me to pull him out of the program.  He was scared. Facing failure before he even started.

Failure doesn’t work for me nor can it work when you haven’t even started.  It was time for a mama/son chat.  I think it went pretty good for a couple of reasons.  1. He didn’t roll his eyes at all during the conversation.  2. He’s still enrolled.

I do ask that you pray for him this year.  He’s a boy.  He’s always lacked the organizational skills. I don’t know many boys who are organized but if you have one consider yourself blessed.

Alexis starts 7th grade and she was happy to go and see her friends.  She had a pretty busy summer training at the gym every day which didn’t leave much time for socializing.  She is happy to be back in her element.  She loves school and always has.

Back to School

For those of you who have watched these two grow up, they have REALLY sprouted over the last year.  Especially Alexis.  She grew 4″ over the past year.  Brandon still waiting on the big growth spurt and we keep telling him it will happen.

I’m so proud of them.  I can’t wait to hear the first day stories.

I always make the kids a card on the first day.  This year I’m thinking of putting a gift card inside they can use to buy a new school outfit.  This will go over GREAT with Alexis.  Brandon could care less what he’s wearing.  :/

Writing Notes, Words of Truth stamp set

Each card is the same except I have a “7th” for Alexis.  There are lots of stamp sets being used on this card but I love each of them complimented each other.

Writing Notes, Words of Truth stamp set

The Writing Notes stamp set is a FUN stamp set.  Great for any back to school projects you want to complete.  I also love the Words of Truth stamp set.  It’s witty, funny and encouraging. That makes for a great stamp set.

Do you any first day of school traditions? I would LOVE to hear them.  If you have kids going to school, I’m wishing you a few peaceful days.  You know it won’t last long.  As moms we will start signing our life away on Volunteer Forms SOON.  Am I right?

Make this week amazing and make something pretty.

Supply List

It’s All About Schedules!

It’s All About Schedules!

Well! Over here at the Van Deep in Troubles we are stuck in “back to school mode!”  I’m always excited about this time of year but a little sad to see the kids go back to WHAKO schedules.

I spent most of my day today at the Middle school on Thursday getting school schedules taken care of and then running to pick up last minute supplies.  Wait, I won’t lie… I was picking up ALL of their supplies.

It’s typical Van Diepen fashion that we waited until the last minute to get the supplies and as Brandon said, “Well Mom, let’s go see what’s left!”  This only adds to my stress.  It reminds me of my procrastination at Christmas time.  Each year I say I’m going to start early so I don’t feel that stress.  I do the same with school supplies but it never happens.

The good news is that we have all that we need and the kids are not organizing their supplies.

Why is this time of year so NUTS? It’s just like the end of the school year.  Jeesh!

In the meantime I’ve worked late nights creating and have some darling things to share over the next week.  I’ve still not finished sharing all of my Display Projects either. YIKES.

Lots of Thanks stamp set, Feathers, Stampin' Up!

One of the new products in the Holiday Mini that sent me to the moon and back were these beautiful feather images from the stamp set Four Feathers.  The BEST part, matching FRAMELITS.

Go ahead… I know you just let out a ginormous SQUEAL.  Oh my WORD.  How lovely.

Lots of Thanks stamp set, Feathers, Stampin' Up!

I had a virtual stamp night with my bestie this past week and we had to use this set.  I love the colors and I love these feathers.  It’s a simple card, really!  See the products used in the post below.

Tips for Creating

I placed a piece of Whisper White cardstock on the base of the card.  I then textured embossed a piece of Vellum using the Lovely Lace Texture Embossing Folder.  I loved the soft look of this.

You will want to place your Thank You greeting over a little more to the left than I did.  <sigh>

Remember, the products from the Holiday Mini will be available on August 28th.  That’s just around the corner.

If you do NOT have a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator and need a Holiday Mini Catalog, please email me  and I will get one in the mail to you.

Lots of Thanks stamp set, Feathers, Stampin' Up!

Have a BEAUTIFUL day and create!  XOXOXO
