It’s Not Always About Being Foxy!

It’s Not Always About Being Foxy!

The new Stampin’ Up! stamp set Foxy Friends is a HUGE hit in the new Idea Book & Catalog and if you haven’t heard the buzz, just take a peek on Pinterest and you are bound to see it.

When I first had a glimpse of Foxy Friends I knew it was a must have.  Little critters are SO popular in the stamping community and Stampin’ Up! did a great job with the cuteness factor with this set.

My Favorite Thing -Foxy Friends!

  • Tons of critters! It’s not just about a fox.  Cat, Raccoon, Deer… these are just a few.
  • Fantastic coordinating products- Designer Paper and punch!
  • No greetings- GASP!  You might think I’m nuts but I love that I can choose what greeting to mix and match with this set.

These are just a few of my favorite things.  I’m excited to have this set in my collection and I know it’s going to be one that I’ll grab frequently with so many options to create.

How About a Raccoon?

Foxy Friends, Stampin' Up!

When I started creating this card I started with the Designer Paper.  I love colors of this particular sheet and I wanted to build my card around it.  Normally I start with the image, but this Designer Series Paper stack is filled with fun colors and patterns.

Once I found the paper, I decided the raccoon would be a perfect match.

Creating him Mr. Raccoon was simple and I love is little face.  What do you think?

Tips & Tricks

Foxy Friends, Stampin' Up!

Here are a few tips & tricks when creating the Mr. Raccoon.

  • The body was stamped in Smoky Slate ink.  The mask around his eyes was stamped using Basic Gray.  Eyes and nose (one image) was stamped using Basic Black along with his tale.
  • I used the Layering Circles Collection framelits to create the circle and scallop around the circle.  These Circles Collection framelits are quickly becoming one of my favorites.  The big circle measures 2-7/8.
  • The Hello image is from the Sunshine Sayings stamp set.  This has a fantastic collection of greetings in this set.  Once again my eyes are drawn to the wonderful fonts used.
  • The ribbon is brand new- Pool Party 3/8″ Stitched Satin Ribbon.  I zig zagged the ribbon and then placed my Hello tag over the ribbon and the entire layer of circles, ribbon, and tag were stapled together.
  • I used a small portion of the Delicate White Doily underneath the scallop circle.
  • The trees were stamped using Pear Pizzaz ink, and die cut using the Perfect Pines Framelits.

Giggle Greetings- I Bet You Didn’t Know This!

Giggle Greetings

Giggle… It’s Friday!  Are you ready???

It’s a great day to reveal the latest TGIF Challenge and a little fact about Kimberly you might not have known!

Don’t worry, it goes along with our TGIF theme today.

It’s ALL about Pets!

TGIF, Pets, Stampin' Up!, Giggle Greetings

This is a fact…

I am a lover of all of animals and I’ve had animals in my home all my life.  I’ve never been pet free.

The real fact is my family is a HUGE animal lover and we have a ZOO.

Oh yes.

I’m not sure how this all happened.  The collection of animals that is.

Currently we have two rescue dogs that I am over the moon about.  Brin and Tanner are my loves.  I think I love them so much right now because they don’t talk back like the other crazies in my house do.

We also have a cat.  Silver is now 18 years old and holding on strong.  He’s an old man.  He loves to sleep and is not happy with the 2 beastly dogs that interrupt his sleep and eat his food.

Then the kids have 4 Guinea Pigs.  Oh help me.  The real question is HOW did that happen? Well, we gained 2 recently that my parents had.  They didn’t want to keep them anymore and I couldn’t let them go to another home.  Yes. I am a BIG sucker.

Then we have a 150 gallon salt water fish tank.  This was a new hobby Russ had taken on prior to his stroke. Then it became my fish tank during his recovery.  It’s 90% back to Russ again except for the tank cleaning which is a huge undertaking.  All that said, it’s a beautiful tank and I love our fish and sea creatures.  They are the most relaxing thing in our home besides the doggie love.

The Challenge

It dawned on me getting ready for this challenge that I do not have many “pet” stamps.  Yikes.  This pet lover needs a few more and I hope Stampin’ Up! can give us a few more dogs and cats at least.  I wouldn’t mind some cute fish and farm animals too.

Here is what I came up with though…

TGIF, Pets, Stampin' Up!, Giggle Greetings

I couldn’t help but use the Giggle Greetings stamp set considering it tickled my funny bone.  The greeting cracks me up.  Although a hair ball does not crack me up… there is truth to the greetings in relation to birthdays, right?

Tips & Tricks

I stamped this card using the Archival Basic Black ink and then once I let it dry for a second or two I used a Blender Pen to color the kitty.  The base of the kitty was colored using Smoky Slate ink, and then I went back using Basic Gray ink around a few areas of the kitty to darken it a bit.  Mostly around the tale, eye lids and a bit of the head and body on the right side.

When using a Blender Pen on Whisper White cardstock, be sure not to go over the colored area too much or you will create a nice paper booger.  Paper boogers are the peeling of the cardstock when it gets too wet.  It’s not pretty, and you will not like the look.

One way to help alleviate this from occurring is to let the first ink that you color dry well.  Then come back over with your darker ink, but only add very few strokes of the ink.  The more strokes, the more apt the paper boogers will occur.

The background was created using the Striped Scallop Thinlits Die using the Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper.  Use the Fine-Tip Glue Pen for the precise amount of glue on this very fine scallop.

I added a few pieces of ribbon directly under the cat image and secured it with the Handheld Stapler.  I love securing ribbon with this tool.  It’s the easiest and the best way to keep it in place.  It’s not going anywhere!

TGIF, Pets, Stampin' Up!, Giggle Greetings

You can see from this picture above, that although there are a few layers of embellishments, this card still remains pretty “flat” despite the ribbon.

So, I let the cat out of the bag…. (snicker)

I told you how many animals I have and how much I love them.  What about you? Are you an animal lover or not? Do you have a house full of pets? I would love to hear what you have.  Tell me about your fur babies!

Now, don’t forget to play along with our challenge this week too.  Click HERE to see what else the TGIF designers have created this week.  We would love to see you participate and share your art with us.

Thankful Forest Friends

Thankful Forest Friends

While you might not be actual FOREST friends, I would like to thank you for being my friends.

Some people say that you cannot build relationships over the internet and I have to say it’s NOT true.  I built some of the most cherished friendships over the internet and they will be lifelong friends.  The only regret is not being able to physically give you a hug or sit and have coffee together.

Today’s card is for YOU!

Thankful Forest Friends, Stampin' Up!

Typically I’m not huge into the cutesy type of stamp images but the fox in this set called my name.  The funniest thing is I didn’t use it.  Ha!

This set has beautiful greeting images as well.  I used makers directly onto the stamp and then gave it a little hot air to moisten it up again.

If you look close enough you can tell my “R” didn’t stamp perfectly in the word “For”.  I didn’t notice it until I had taken the picture and had my glasses on.

I think this was a good indication I might need to wear my glasses more often.

Thankful Forest Friends, Stampin' Up!

I did have a little fussy cutting to do, but not much.  I decided to add a few layers of the ribbon and off centered the 3 circle layers to be different.

Thankful Forest Friends, Stampin' Up!

My lazy self decided this bear was not getting a full on mani/pedi and I didn’t fussy cut between the nails and toes.  I’m sure it would have been cuter had I tried that, but seriously… this girl didn’t have that kinda time.  If my nails are a mess… so is Mr. Bear!

Real Forest Friends

Warning, if you follow me on Facebook or Instagram… you may have already seen this.  If not, you are in for a good laugh.  Put your coffee down.

Today when I came home from driving Alexis to the gym I was bone tired.  I’ve been doing a little more late night stamping than normal and my body said- nap time! I love when my body tells me this.  <grin>

Before I laid down I told Brandon that we had a casualty in the pool.  It was a lizard at the bottom of the pool.  He was on his back with all 4’s sticking up.  Poor thing. Brandon wanted to run and rescue it but I told him he had to finish his homework.  PERIOD!

Then I fell asleep….

The rest I will just share in pictures.  When I woke up Brandon was kind enough to tell me he took care of the lizard and took pictures to prove it. WITH MY PHONE!

Dead lizard

He knows I do not like lizards AT ALL.  Nor do I like snakes.  This week alone he has scared me with a rubber snake.  Its a wonder I haven’t had a heart attack.  He does make me laugh, and he does have my cray sense of humor.  This is good, right?

Okay my “forest” friends, have a GREAT day and make something pretty!!

Dog, Cats or Nothing?

Dog, Cats or Nothing?

What best describes you? Are you a dog lover? Cat lover? Or do you prefer nothing?

I have ALWAYS been an animal lover.  In fact, I don’t think there has ever been a time that I haven’t had an animal around.  Not that I can remember anyways.  Lately I have an obsession with dogs and find myself monitoring our local humane society for their needs.  Alexis and I chat about the new dogs that arrive to the facility and ultimately thats how we became the happy owners of Brin and Tanner.  Tanner is the newest member of our family.  He is a sweet 8 month old Fox Hound Mix.

If you follow me on social media you might have seen a few photos of sweet Tanner and the crazy first week he had in our home.  He was bit by a poisonous snake and a had an overnight visit at the emergency vet just a week after we adopted him.  We are thankful he was okay and he is doing fantastic at our home after a crazy start.  Poor thing doesn’t know what he got himself into coming into our home.  EEK!

Since I am a dog freak I had to have the dog stamp set, Hot Diggity Dog.  It’s adorable.  I’ve made a few card sets for my local vet so she can send them to her patients humans.  <smile>

Of course Russ said as much money as we’ve spent at the vet she should be making us cards. :/

Hot Diggity Dog Stamp Set, Stampin' Up!

Is that dog face the cutest??  I just love these little doggies in this set. Simply adorable and especially great greetings.

Hot Diggity Dog Stamp Set, Stampin' Up!

A relatively simple card with a few fun ribbon embellishments and all the pieces stay together with just a few stitches from my sewing machine.

You can see this adorable set HERE.  If you are a cat lover make sure to check out the You Little Fur Ball stamp set HERE.

I’m now in Salt Lake City for the big convention.  Excited to spend time with friends and see the new fun products coming out in the Holiday Catalog.  I’m presenting on stage the next three days sharing about Project Life.  Scrapbooking has always been near and dear to my heart and Project Life is really the perfect type of scrapbooking for those with busy lives.  Wish me luck, I am starting to feel a few butterflies.
