Card Fail and Re-Do!

Card Fail and Re-Do!

It happens more than people think inside this stamp room of mine.

It’s the final moments of creating the card.  All is going beautifully well.  I’m just adding some finishing touches and BAM… RUINED. I mean RUINED.

There are many many cards that have almost hit the trash but somehow I have saved… until this card.  It was a complete disaster and for a challenge card no less.

Let me share….

First, today is Friday so that means it’s time for a TGIF challenge.  It’s a super fun sketch I think you will love.

Card Fail, TGIF Challenge, Stampin' Up!

I started this card using the Beautiful Ride stamp set.  I love this bug car and the other images that go with this set are amazing fun.

Beautiful Ride, TGIF Challenge, Stampin' Up!

Once I had everything watercolored and the entire card set in place and adhered down I thought it needed one more thing… a little splatter.  It’s like an obsession I have.  Kinda like my obsession with doily’s.  I also love me some splatter.  Until it’s out of control like this…

Beautiful Ride, TGIF Challenge, Stampin' Up!

Now my couple looks like they are part of a murder scene.  Who knew Watermelon Wonder ink could look like a bloody mess? I tried to save the card by re-doing the couple.  Nope.  The windows on the bug car were to far gone.  It didn’t look pretty at all.  Most of the time when this happens I have to walk away and gather my thoughts because I’m so mad at myself.  Not this card.  I laughed so hard I almost wet my pants.  This was FUNNY!!

So, I started from scratch.  A complete re-do!

Beautiful Ride, TGIF Challenge, Stampin' Up!

Much cleaner.  No more murder scene.  Just a lovely couple probably enjoying a cozy moment alone.

Tips & Tricks

I used Watercolor Paper and Basic Black Archival Ink to watercolor the Bug and couple images.  One tip before you start watercoloring, heat set the images.   I stamp the images and then I take my heat tool over them to make sure they are good and dry.

The images are watercolored using an Aqua Painter and Inks.  I used Watermelon Wonder for the Bug Car.  You can see all the inks used in the supply list below.

When I first stamped the stars they were really bright using Daffodil Delight. When I was re-creating this card I changed the ink to So Saffron (had to bust out a duster on that ink pad!) Using that color was much softer. Then I added a Vellum overlay to create an even more softer look.

What do you think? Notice the re-created card has NO splatter.  I thought I would not risk it a second time.

Would love to hear from you!  Plus, don’t forget to play along in the challenge.  You can see what the other designers created HERE and play along.

Let’s Have a TGIF Sketch Party!

Sketch Party!

Let’s get your weekend started off to a good start with a TGIF sketch!

If your mojo is depleted or you just can’t seem to get in the creative spirit a sketch is like the ultimate super hero.  It’s comes to the rescue like no other.

TGIF, Challenges, Stampin' Up!

This weeks sketch is fantastic and you can go crazy with creative options.

Are you ready to hear what I mean?

TGIF Sketch Party, Stampin' Up!, Stampinbythesea

You’ve Got Options!

What makes a sketch great? Personally it means zilcho thinking involved as far as how it’s going to be created.  That piece of work is done for me. Now all I have to do is figure out what stamp set I want to use and colors.

When looking at a sketch think about turning the sketch.  You can create looking at it the orientation that it’s in -OR- turn it to the left or right and see the sketch differently.

TGIF Sketch Party, Stampin' Up!, Stampinbythesea

You can see, I was lazy.  Exactly why I love a sketch.  I didn’t have to turn it or move anything.

No overthinking here, just creating.

I immediately had an idea when I saw the sketch.  I thought wouldn’t it be cool if I could fit those Sleigh Ride Framelits inside the circles.

Wouldn’t you know, they fit.  That = success in my book.

Create It!

TGIF Sketch Party, Stampin' Up!, Stampinbythesea

I started this card by rolling two of the Sleigh Ride framelits with Whisper White cardstock.  I pieced them into the 1 1/4″ circles before cutting to the size I wanted.  This made it easier on me instead of cutting too soon and then having to re-roll the die cuts.

I used the Scallop framelit from the Cutie Pie framelit and die cut my Burlap ribbon.

*Tip:  To get a crisp cut every time roll the burlap through the Big Shot a couple of times.  It should then come out crisply cut and no strings. To attach the back of the card use the Green Tombow Multipurpose Glue.  I attached the Chevron ribbon the same way.  Gives it a better hold.

My favorite part of this card is the Silent Night Music Paper from the Home for Christmas Designer Series Paper.  It brings the entire card together from the greeting, the quiet sleigh ride in the background and the music to Silent Night.

Friday Sketch- TGIF Challenge

Friday Sketch- TGIF Challenge

Oh boy!  Get ready for a Friday Sketch!

I decided last week I did not have enough baby cards on hand so I used this sketch to create a neutral baby card.

Sketch Challenge, TGIF, Stampin' Up!

I worked with the Go Wild DSP stack that has been sitting on my shelf collecting a bit of dust.  Hello!  What is WRONG with me.  This is the cutest paper stack.  So many cute designs and perfect for my giraffe.

Sketch Challenge, TGIF, Stampin' Up!

I used the Zoo Babies stamp set and the animals in this set are adorable.  I love how the giraffe coordinates with the paper and the circles on the giraffe coordinates with my Tangelo Twist Washi.  Win Win.

TGIF #24- Sketch Challenge

TGIF, Challenges, Stampin' Up!

TGIF #24, Stampin' Up!, Sketch

TGIF! Oh my word I am so glad it’s Friday.  Seriously! It’s been a whirlwind week.  One that makes me want to sit back and ask, WHAT happened? My office is in shambles-still.  Stuff piled everywhere as I run from project to project between kids, Russ and Church.

When I started to create for this week’s sketch challenge I had a pile of “fun” or what I like to call other names on my desk.  Things that “didn’t make the cut” from another project.  Most of the time I put these little things in a bin near my desk.  I like to pull things from there now and then.

I decided to pull all the “fun” on my desk and make something with it.  I figured I had the sketch for inspiration and now I just needed to coordinate the goods with the sketch.  It worked although I did waiver a bit from the sketch challenge.  Well, the bottom is not centered… you will see. <eek>

TGIF #24, Stampin' Up!, Sketch

I started with the strips of Home for Christmas DSP and the the circle I had die cut using the same DSP with the music notes.  I took a piece of scrap Vellum cardstock and laid it over the music sheet DSP. Then I layered the DSP strips over that. I did a bit of sewing across the layers of DSP to keep them in place.   Once all them were layered together I die cut them together using my Circles Collection Framelits.

TGIF #24, Stampin' Up!, Sketch

I then layered this onto a piece of Cherry Cobbler cardstock that I also die cut from my Circles Collection Framelits.  I swear I cannot live without my circle die cuts.  For sure.

TGIF #24, Stampin' Up!, Sketch

The last little piece of this card was adding the Gold Glitter ribbon which is actually applied to the card the opposite side.  So no glitter seen, just the matte finish of that ribbon which I also loved.  I also added a pretty button from the Home for Christmas line and adhered this to the cardfront.

Trying to keep to the sketch as much as I could I decided to add little stitching to the bottom of the card and then the sentiment.

See what the other TGIF designers have created and be inspired.  We hope you play along.

Have a FANTABULOUS weekend.  I’ll be a bit off the grid as I spend time with the family.  Much needed opportunity.

TGIF #20- Sketch Challenge

TGIF, Challenges, Stampin' Up!

Time to Chill…Time For a Sketch!

Hello weekend.  Are you as ready as I am? I love short weeks but then I am trying to squeeze everything in and guess what… it’s impossible.

I wish I could say I had a relaxing weekend planned.  Instead I will be making 110 swaps for the upcoming Founders Circle event next week.  Yes, last minute procraftinator at her FINEST.

Did I ever tell you how much I dislike making the same thing more than twice? I’ve never been a happy swap maker until AFTER the swapping has occurred.  Then I am glad I did it.  During the swap making, I sit with a big ole ugly face and roll my eyes about 597 times.  Yes.  I. Do.

So that had nothing to do with what I have to share and I love today’s sketch for the TGIF challenge.  It’s super cute and easy.  I hope you enjoy it as well.

TGIF20, Challenge, Stampin' Up!, Snow Place

Oh my geeeee…. the Penguin.  Isn’t he the cutest little guy ever??

Did you know that my most favorite animal in the whole wide world is the penguin?  Yes.  Love them.  Love how they walk.  Love how cute they are.  Plus I love to hear my mother say the word “Penguin” in her southern accent.  You would never understand what animal she was talking about.  <not kidding>

Snow Place stamp set, Stampin' Up!, Kimberly Van Diepen

The BEST part about this set is that it comes as a bundle.  That means there are matching framelits that go with it.  That’s HUGE.  No fussy cutting.  This set is called Snow Place.  I think it’s darling especially because of the penguin but also the snowmen in the set are adorbs too.

Fun Things to Note:

Isn’t this a fun set?

One thing to note that I used and I’m in love with.  Actually a couple of things…

  1. The new Archival Basic Black ink is AMAZING.  See my penguin image that I stamped above? Notice how crisp that image is.  This black ink is the best I’ve seen.  I love love love it.
  2. The White Perfect Accents (they look like pearls but they are not) are wonderful to use plain white like I did above -OR- color them with a sharpie to have a little color.

Play Along!

Okay, now it’s your turn to play along with our TGIFC Design Team this week.  It’s fun and easy.  Click HERE to see what the other designers created using this sketch.  Don’t be shy.  Join in.

P.S. You are the BEST!

A quick update from yesterday’s post because you guys are so awesome.  My class went fantabulous.  We had a ball making cards and it was fun to be in that zone again.  I love creating but even more I love sharing HOW to create.  I had 4 new lovely ladies stamping tonight and the best part was watching their eyes light up when heat embossing.  Does it still make your eyes light up? I love heat embossing because it feels like magic.

I will be sharing the cards we make this coming week.  There are 6 total.  I am pretty amazed at how great my new stampers did with these cards.  I will admit, they were not easy but they pressed forward and had a blast.

Have a GREAT weekend my friends.  Create something fun and beautiful and most of all, enjoy it.  Oh.. and don’t forget to send a card to someone and encourage them.  It’s important.

XOXOXOXO

P.S.S. I just noticed today’s date…. 9/11.  NEVER FORGET….

I remember exactly what I was doing, where I was the time it started and what I was thinking.  Hard to forget something that horrific.  Never forget.

Love you.
