Peace at Christmas

Peace at Christmas

It’s something we all strive for during this time of year, Peace at Christmas.

As I was madly dashing from store to store today in search of that one magical gift I felt an overwhelming sense of anxiety come over me knowing that I had once again procrastinated my Christmas shopping.  Every single year my best laid plans fall short and I’m in this same exact boat year after year.

I remember when I was growing up my mom had every gift wrapped and under the tree the first week of Christmas.  Being a military brat the best part of waiting on Christmas was the postman delivering boxes filled with gifts from family out of town.  We LOVED unpacking those boxes.  Underneath our tree would grow rapidly.

I’m afraid my own children will have a different story to tell with their own children and I’m kinda beating myself up about it.  There story will go something like this….

We went from no gifts to a few gifts the night before Christmas.  LOL.  It will be short and sweet.

Luckily my kids have a GREAT sense of humor and to be honest my kids need nothing. Although my kids will have gifts under the tree we have spent more time this year trying to instill the beauty of giving rather than receiving.  Both of the kids do love this but Brandon always cracks me up when softly he asks… “Mom, I’ll still get a gift under the tree, right?”  He is my child, 100%.  My kids are at that age when clothing seems to be what they need but they still want that “toy” under the tree.  What toy do you buy a teenager?

This is exactly why I was a bit frantic running store to store.  There was NO peace on my face until I sat down in my car.  The radio started to play and I took a couple of deep breaths.  The Christmas song playing brought me back to what the meaning of Christmas is all about.  Yes, the gifts are wonderful but the true gift is Jesus. My kids know this. For that I am eternally grateful.

I still haven’t found that magical gift but I’m at peace with it.  If you have that same feeling, take a couple of deep breaths and remember the true meaning of why we celebrate this magical season.

I love that I can express peace at Christmas through the art of stamps.  Today I have a simple but beautiful card using the Peaceful Wreath stamp set.

Peace at Christmas, Peaceful Wreath, Stampin' Up!

The holly leaves on this branch is one of my favorites.  This is a quick coloring image using a Blender Pen and Ink.

My tip is what NOT to do.  Be careful how much glue you are using when it comes to placing your sequins down.  If you look close you can see the “glue”.  While it’s not a big deal when actually looking at the card, you wouldn’t want that to be seen, really.

Through all this, I hope you find a bit of peace right now. Turn on the radio and just listen.  XOXOXO

Holly Jolly Time- TGIF Challenge

Holly Jolly Time- TGIF Challenge

Are you ready to have a Holly Jolly time? Hello! It’s FRIDAY! Yahoo!

TGIF, Challenges, Stampin' Up!

It’s time for another TGIF challenge.  Man, last week we had a fantastic sketch challenge and I loved all of the cards from those who participated.  They were fantastic.  I hope you had a minute to check it out.

This week our challenge is inspiration.  You can use this photo below as your inspiration and let your creativity run. These types of challenges usually trip me up a bit because my mind runs wild with all kinds of ideas and then the card looks like a complete disaster.  You’ll see that I kept my card pretty simple.

I couldn’t get the song, “Holly Jolly Christmas” out of my head while creating this card.  I was singing at the top of my lungs when creating.  I’m sure it was pleasant for anyone around me but it helped me as I created.

As I said, I kept my card fairly simple.  I used a blender pen and ink pads to color my Holly branch from the Peaceful Wreath set. I love how this image looks when stamped. The holly leaves are so crisp and it was easy to color using three basic colors- Pear Pizzaz, Watermelon Wonder and Soft Suede.

The Jolly and Christmas greetings came from the Oh, What Fun stamp set.  I used the omitting technique on the Christmas greeting because I didn’t want all of the other words. It worked perfect for this.  Just ink only the words you want and then stamp.  You could also stamp the entire image and only cut out the words you want.  Either way works great.

I’m grateful for all those that participated in our challenge last week.  It was so fun to see their take on the challenge.  I hope you will join me this week.  One thing about challenges, they stretch your creativity and let you try new things.  Don’t be afraid to try something new.

Have an awesome Friday and weekend ahead.  I’m still digesting the Star Wars movie I just came home from.  Russ was like a kid in a candy store.  He was so excited and as soon as the music started the smile on his face got bigger.  It was AWESOME.

Weekend Stamping

I had to put my bestie on a plane Saturday morning.  Needless to say I pouted most of Saturday after she left but found myself in my stamp room for therapy.  I missed her contagious giggle when we stamp together.  Then of course late night blogging together was fun too.  I think she left a piece of Colorado however.  Here in Florida we have a freeze warning.  WHAT? My fruit trees are lit up like Christmas Trees and blankets over them to stay warm.  It doesn’t typically get this cold in November.

Since it was cold I stamped more.  Can’t beat that!

I started off with the Peaceful Wreath stamp set.

I wanted to keep this card very simple so the wreath and all it’s detail stands out. The best thing- this set has a coordinating framelit- Wonderful Wreath Framelits. Yippie!!

I love the font on the greeting “Peace!”  Very crisp image when stamped. I love how it looks on Watermelon Wonder cardstock.

The Watermelon Wonder really made the card pop.

I added a few rhinestones for the bling effect.  What do you think? Here is list of products I used for Peaceful Wishes card.

Another card I created used a stamp set that is on the Extravaganza Sale- which means BIG SAVINGS.  It’s a beautiful set, Banner Blessings.
I created the circles with the Go Wild Designer Series Paper.  Great patterns in this 6 x 6 Pack.
Each image has a scripture verse.  LOVE!
