Peace at Christmas
It’s something we all strive for during this time of year, Peace at Christmas.
As I was madly dashing from store to store today in search of that one magical gift I felt an overwhelming sense of anxiety come over me knowing that I had once again procrastinated my Christmas shopping. Every single year my best laid plans fall short and I’m in this same exact boat year after year.
I remember when I was growing up my mom had every gift wrapped and under the tree the first week of Christmas. Being a military brat the best part of waiting on Christmas was the postman delivering boxes filled with gifts from family out of town. We LOVED unpacking those boxes. Underneath our tree would grow rapidly.
I’m afraid my own children will have a different story to tell with their own children and I’m kinda beating myself up about it. There story will go something like this….
We went from no gifts to a few gifts the night before Christmas. LOL. It will be short and sweet.
Luckily my kids have a GREAT sense of humor and to be honest my kids need nothing. Although my kids will have gifts under the tree we have spent more time this year trying to instill the beauty of giving rather than receiving. Both of the kids do love this but Brandon always cracks me up when softly he asks… “Mom, I’ll still get a gift under the tree, right?” He is my child, 100%. My kids are at that age when clothing seems to be what they need but they still want that “toy” under the tree. What toy do you buy a teenager?
This is exactly why I was a bit frantic running store to store. There was NO peace on my face until I sat down in my car. The radio started to play and I took a couple of deep breaths. The Christmas song playing brought me back to what the meaning of Christmas is all about. Yes, the gifts are wonderful but the true gift is Jesus. My kids know this. For that I am eternally grateful.
I still haven’t found that magical gift but I’m at peace with it. If you have that same feeling, take a couple of deep breaths and remember the true meaning of why we celebrate this magical season.
I love that I can express peace at Christmas through the art of stamps. Today I have a simple but beautiful card using the Peaceful Wreath stamp set.
The holly leaves on this branch is one of my favorites. This is a quick coloring image using a Blender Pen and Ink.
My tip is what NOT to do. Be careful how much glue you are using when it comes to placing your sequins down. If you look close you can see the “glue”. While it’s not a big deal when actually looking at the card, you wouldn’t want that to be seen, really.
Through all this, I hope you find a bit of peace right now. Turn on the radio and just listen. XOXOXO
