Stitching On Cards- What Stitch to Use?

Stitching on cards- what stitch to use?

When I’m in the mood to get the sewing machine out it’s NEVER for anything but a card.  I have a beautiful machine that I bought a few years back when I got into the craze of sewing.  The only thing that this machine has ever made was an Apron that fell apart and vintage hair bows.

Now the only thing it sews are patches for scouts.  Quite frankly I would love to pay someone to sew those on because I’m notorious for putting them on crooked.

Because I thought this was “the” sacred machine I didn’t want to use it for cards and bought a cute little Janome Sew Mini to use just for my cards.  It’s the perfect little machine just for this type of use.

Normally when I get ready to sew on a card I always use the plain ole straight stitch.  Whoopie I thought.  When I digital scrapbook I use all kinds of stitches, so why was I limiting myself.

I guess you can say I got a little carried away with this card.  I used 5 different stitches across the circles.  I guess I was in the mood to try something different and low and behold I liked it.

It’s been forever since I used this set and I wanted to incorporate the In Colors that will be leaving the catalog the end of May.  I love how the stitching stood out on the colored cardstock.

What stitch to use? If I had to give you my opinion or advice, I say be CREATIVE.  Try sewing in circles or Zig Zag.  It will add more character to your card and that little extra texture and vintage love.

To create the circles I simply stamped the circle image onto the cardstock using the coordinating inks.  You will find the supplies I used at the end of the post.

Once I had them all stamped I used my 1 3/8 Circle punch to punch the image.  They are simply laid across the Whisper White cardstock (2 1/2 x 5 1/2) using a VERY small amount of adhesive towards the bottom of the circle so I could sew directly across the circles and not get adhesive on my sewing needle.

I loved how these colors coordinated.  Summer Starfruit has been a very favorite color of mine since the day it came out.  I love how it stamped on Whisper White cardstock so CRISP.

You can see I also stitched the My Friend greeting onto the punched Raspberry Ripple cardstock.  I didn’t get crazy with that stitch but I loved how it looked across the cardstock.

The My Friend stamp set has definitely been loved since it made a home in my stamp room.  Its been a great set for both simple and complex cards and certainly perfect for an All Occasion card.  If you are a scrapbooker, the Hello image is perfect for a traditional layout as well.

So what type of stitching on cards will you use?
