Best Birds- Stampin’ Up!

Best Birds- Stampin’ Up!

The Best Birds stamp set has been calling my name to see the ink and I finally had the chance to do it!

I thought for sure I would spend a little more time over the holiday weekend with stamps in my hand but instead I ended up pool side and surrounded with family.  If there is anything better than stamping, it’s spending time with my family.  It was a win-win for sure.

Bundle & Save

If you haven’t noticed yet, I’ve been sharing a lot of the sweet Bundles that are in the new Idea Book & Catalog.  I love a great savings, but even better are the sets I’m able to save on.  I love them all.

Best Birds, Stampin' Up!

I love birds and most of all, I love stamping them.  The Best Birds stamp set jumped out at me as soon as I had seen it.  This set was even better when I noticed the matching framelits that coordinated with this set.  NO CUTTING.  You could probably hear me singing and dancing when I noticed this.

Create It!

Best Birds, Stampin' Up!

The greeting was perfect for this card as it was a good day once I started putting this card together.

My first thought for pairing embellishments with this card was the music note paper from the This Christmas Specialty Designer Paper.  Instantly this made me think of a song bird.  In fact, one thing Russ and I love to do is listen to the sweet birds in our backyard sing.  It’s so peaceful. How about you?

Best Birds, Stampin' Up!

Here are a few tips to create this card:

  1. Stamp the mesh stamp image using Sahara Sand onto Whisper White cardstock 4″ x 5-1/4″.
  2. Attach a Delicate White Doily (1/4 of a doily) to the backside of the music note pattern paper (1/2″ x 3-1/2″) using Snail adhesive.
  3. Adhere a piece of Pool Party cardstock (1/4″ x 3″) above the music note paper.  Staple a piece of coiled Linen Thread to the Pool party cardstock to keep the thread in place.
  4. Stamp the branch, bird and flower onto Watercolor paper using Archival Basic Black ink.  Let images dry or heat set with Heat Tool.
  5. Color branch with Early Espresso ink for the branch and Cucumber Crush ink for the leaves.  Color the flower using Daffodil Delight ink.  Color the entire bird with Pool Party ink, and then go over the image around the edges using Island Indigo ink. Color the birds beak using Tangerine Tango ink.  Die cut the images using the Birds & Blooms Thinlits Dies on page 194 of the Idea Book & Catalog.  I used an Aqua Painter to color the images.
  6. Adhere the branch, and bird using dimensionals.  Adhere the flower to the branch using Mini Glue Dots.
  7. Stamp the greeting onto the card front using Archival Basic Black ink.
  8. Adhere Pool Party Enamel Dots to the card as shown in picture.
  9. Go over the body of the bird using the Clear Wink of Stella Brush.  (ohhhh … how I love!)
  10. Attach the Whisper White card front to Pool Party cardstock 4-1/8″ x 5-3/8″ using dimensionals.
  11. Attach the Pool Party cardstock to the Whisper White Thick cardstock base (5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″) using dimensionals.

Speaking of Birds….

I’m kinda excited about something…
I noticed about two weeks ago that a morning dove has made a nest in my hanging flower basket on the porch.  She is sitting on two sweet little eggs.  This mama bird is so good.  She has weathered a few storms and sits in the blazing hot sun every single day. I can’t wait to share her babies with you.
Here are a few pics of her and the eggs.  I haven’t watered my plant but a few times when I see her fly off to grab some dinner.  I don’t want to scare her, so the hanging basket is slowly dying.  AHHH.  The things I will do for this mama bird.

Isn’t this exciting??? I can’t wait to see the babies hatch.

Not the best picture, but she is sitting quietly, in the heat…

What is That Stamp Image?

What is That Stamp Image?

It’s been the talk in many chat rooms on Facebook lately among my demonstrator friends…. What is that weird image in the Swirly Bird stamp set?

It’s a Kite.  Yes, the cutest kite ever.

Swirly Bird, Stampin' Up!

The “mystery image” in the Swirly Bird stamp set creates a Kite.  In fact, it’s the kite you see above.

I kept this card very quick and simple.  The greeting is what truly stands out.  I love this.

Swirly Bird, Stampin' Up!

I did a little fussy cutting on the kite, but nothing hard.  I stamped the kite string lightly and stamped a few bows on the kite to coordinate.

Another love of mine on this card… Layering Love stamp set.  Oh jeez.  The words.  The fonts.  The the the… It’s AMAZING.  Christmas gifts will easily be created using this stamp set because the word art in this set is perfection.

The main colors used for this card was Bermuda Bay, Soft Sky and Daffodil Delight.

Swirly Bird, Stampin' Up!

I had every desire to go nuts with this card adding more layers.  Truth be told, once I attached the kites, I realized this card did not need anything else.  Isn’t that a beautiful thing?

Are you making your wish list? I hope Swirly Bird is on it.

Is it Really Picture Perfect?

Is it Really Picture Perfect?

Nothing is ever perfect in my book anymore but it’s darn close and I have peace with that.

Oh that word perfect can get the best of us.  Especially me.

Perfect is a bad word for me because perfection is something I take to heart and I’ve had to learn over the years to let that go.

I’m. Not. Perfect. BUT…

Phew.  What a RELEASE….

Well, it was until I pulled out my Picture Perfect stamp set from Stampin’ Up!

My Perfect Relationship with the BIRD!

Picture Perfect, Stampin' Up!

This weekend I had a virtual stamping palooza with my bestie.  It’s awesome fun where we pick a stamp set and create and then share our work with each other.  We ohhh and ahhhh and truly it’s the best thing.  Obviously it would be 100% better if we were actually together, but this is perfect for us given the miles between us.

Well, she chose the Picture Perfect stamp set.  I’ve been able to successfully stamp every image except that sweet hummingbird.  In fact I’ve been a bit jealous of the cards I’ve seen with him.  He’s beautiful… when others stamp him.  Every time I stamp this bird he looks like a big blog.

My friend came to my rescue and gave me a few tips and I thought I pass along to you because they WORK.  YAY! I also did a little research on the colors of the bird and that helped me decide my color choices.

Picture Perfect, Stampin' Up!

This is the bird I found and I loved the colors around his neck.  Isn’t he a cutie??

Stamping the Bird Perfect…

Well, it didn’t happen.  I didn’t stamp him perfect.  BUT… I was so close I just let it go.

Picture Perfect, Stampin' Up!

If you look closely… his beak is slightly off a wince.  From afar… oh it’s perfect.

Look from afar.  <grin>

Tips & Tricks

Here are a few things I found helpful when stamping Mr. Bird.

  • On the acetate that your images come on you have numbers that tell you which image to stamp.  Instead of stamping the images in order 1-4, try stamping image #4 and working backwards.  This was a tremendous help.
  • Stamp the bird image upside down.  At first I thought my friend was silly.  She’s not silly at all.  This also helped in lining up Mr. Bird.
  • Ultimately, if you own a stamp-a-ma-jig this would help you tremendously.  I am terribly lazy and tried the eyeball technique.  You see it needs a little work.
  • The colors I used for the bird starting with image #4: Sahara Sand, Pear Pizzaz, Melon Mambo, and  Basic Gray.

Create It!

Stamp with me using the instructions below.

  1. Fold Whisper White Thick card base in half (4-1/4 x 11).  Mat Basic Black cardstock 3-7/8 x 5-1/8 and Whisper White Thick cardstock 3-3/4 x 5-1/4 together using Fast Fuse.  Adhere onto center of Whisper White card base.
  2. Adhere Basic Black cardstock 1 x 5-1/2 to the back of the English Garden Designer Series Paper 2 x 5-1/2 so that 1/4″ shows.  Adhere over the Whisper White cardstock towards the left of the card.
  3. Attach a Tea Lace Doily along with a large gold Metallic Doily to the card.  You will only need a 1/2 of each doily.  Place a small piece of Burlap Ribbon onto the doily.  You will notice my Burlap is slightly tattered looking.  Just pull on the threads gently to tatter and fray the ends.  Attach over the doilies using Multipurpose Liquid Glue.
  4. Stamp the hummingbird using the method and colors I shared in the Tips & Tricks section above onto a scrap piece of Whisper White cardstock.  Die cut the image using the largest label framelit from the Lots of Labels Framelits.  Trim the top of the label off using trimmer.
  5. Attach White Corrugated cardstock 1/4 x 2-1/2″ across the label near the hummingbird.  Attach a small piece of Tea Lace Doily over Corrugated cardstock.  Stamp the greeting onto Basic Black cardstock scrap using Whisper White Craft ink.  Pour White embossing powder over greeting and heat emboss.  Trim as close as you can around the greeting.  Attach greeting over Tea Lace Doily.
  6. Attach label framelit to the card front using dimensionals.
  7. Splatter Melon Mambo and Mossy Meadow carefully over label framelit using Aqua Painter.

Rejoice in Imperfection!

Let’s face it, whether we get it perfect or not let’s rejoice that we took the time to create and enjoy the process.  I’m going to rejoice in the imperfection and remember to let go of that ugly word called perfect.  I hope you do to.  I hope you will let me know your thoughts on Mr. Bird.  If you have this set, what colors have you tried using.  I wanna hear.
