Creative With Color Using Best Birds Stamp Set

Best Birds Stamp Set

Have you ever started creating with colors and think to yourself this could be bad?

Sometimes one of the hardest parts for starting a project is color choices.

I have this mentality that I have to be “different!”  Like someone else hasn’t used the colors I’m about to use EVER.

Over time I’m learning that I don’t have to be different so to speak… but I can be creative.

I started out with a completely different color scheme for today’s card because I wanted to keep it traditional.

That idea quickly wound up in the trash and I unleashed the creativity.

Sometimes this works, others not so much.

It Doesn’t Always Have to Be Traditional

The card I’m sharing today is one that I had shared at an event at OnStage using the Best Birds stamp set.

This is another timeless set like I shared yesterday.  I’m branching out of the traditional blue bird so bare with me!

I’m in love with the Irresistibly Floral Designer Series Paper and the gorgeous backgrounds this paper can create for projects.

This is where the creative coloring came into full play when I started this card using this paper.

I started with three ink colors and my Sponge Brayer.

The first color used was Peekaboo Peach.  Without cleaning my Sponge Brayer I added Calypso Coral and then Watermelon Wonder.  The beautiful thing about the Sponge Brayer is the clean up.  Simply place the brayer under water and rinse.  Let the brayer air dry and then its ready to be used again.

This brayer places a smooth coat of color every single time.  I love it.

Tips & Tricks

Best Birds Stamp Set, Stampin' Up!

Here are a few tips and tricks to create this card.

  • The bird was stamped onto Watercolor paper then colored  using and Aqua Painter with Watermelon Wonder, and Flirty Flamingo Classic Ink.
  • Texture emboss a 1-1/2″ x 4″ piece of Watermelon Wonder cardstock using the Woodgrain Texture Embossing Folder.
  • After coloring the bird and branch,  use the Birds & Blooms Thinlits Dies to die cut the stamped images.
  • Add a small 1/2″ piece of Moroccan Designer Series Paper across the Woodgrain Texture along with a 1/2″ piece of Early Espresso cardstock.
  • Lastly, the greeting was stamped and die cut using the Tags & Labels Framelits Dies- one of my favorite die cuts.

Add your favorite accessories to the card to complete and give it the finishing touches.  A few products I used were the 5/8″ Burlap Ribbon (one thread), a few sequins, and of course a small piece of a doily.

Be Creative

Like I’ve always expressed, it doesn’t matter if you have a pink bird or a blue bird.  As long as you are happy with the creative process that’s all that counts.

One thing for sure, the Best Birds stamp set is timeless.  Regardless of what colors you love to use this can be a stamp set you can run to for years.
