Struggle with Color Combinations?

Do you struggle with Color Combinations?

I remember when I first started my journey with Stampin’ Up! one of the hardest things for me to “get” was color combinations.  I was not an expert in that area and knew I had to start learning how to put colors together.

Over the years I’ve enjoyed learning how colors come together and I love trying new things.  I have to admit though, Stampin’ Up! has made color combinations EASY for me. Just from our catalogs I can look at samples they have in the book and gather colors I want to use.  We also get a special magazine bi-monthly that gives us great color combinations and beautiful hand made projects.

Here are a few ideas to help you with Color Combinations:

  • Use Stampin’ Up!’s Color Coach #130118. This is filled with TONS of color choices for you to use.
  • On the back of Stampin’ Up!’s Designer Series Papers it gives you the colors used in the paper.  Right there you have great combinations to use.
  • Use resources on the web such as ColorMatch Color Lab
  • Enjoy color inspiration from Pinterest.  Here is my Color Inspiration Board
  • See what Pantone has to offer and stay up to date on the Color Trends.

My favorite go to place for color is Pinterest.  I try not to get SUCKED into the beautiful colors there but I cannot lie. It happens!  Look at these beautiful combinations below.

Time for me to share my card using lots of fun colors today.  It’s Super Duper fun!

Color Combinations, Color Inspiration, Retro Fresh Journal Cards

I’m determined to use my Retro Fresh Journal Cards for both smashbooking and hand made cards.  I love the simplicity these give when making hand made cards.  You have the color combinations in front of you and it gives you something to work with.

The GRAND part is these colors ALL match when you use Stampin’ Up! accessories with it.  This makes your color choice EASY to work with.

Can You Play?

Kimberly Van Diepen, stampin' Up!

First…. I love Memorial Day Weekend as we salute all of our HERO's!  The sacrifices they have made & continue to make are incredible. I salute all the spouses as well because they hold the fort while our hero's can be hero's.  I salute my girlfriends who have lost their hero's.  Their hero paid the ultimate sacrifice. We can't thank our hero's enough.

Moving forward with our long weekend…   "Can you play with me?"  I know I sound like a kid! But I'm serious! Let's get inspired over the long weekend and play with color.  Want to?

So I found this beautiful collage on Pinterest.  You can click and it will take you to the actual link where you will find even more FANTABULOUS colors.

Oh my.  It's like a bunny jumping down a rabbit hole.  I  keep finding more and more rabbit holes and before I know it 3 hours passes and nothing accomplished.  Thankful that doesn't happen every day but lately more than not.

Kimberly Van Diepen, Stampin' Up!

Once again I look at these colors and coordinate them with Stampin' Up! Here is what I came up with for our Color Challenge this week.

Kimberly Van Diepen, Stampin' up!

If you can play… Just post a link on my Facebook Fan Page so we can see what you did.

Do you remember last weeks color challenge? It was SO beautiful.  If you need to refresh your memory you can see it HERE

I loved playing with these bright colors.  I felt like I could eat my card as it reminded me of a popsicle.

I *almost* got away with not using a doily and then I snuck it in under the banner.  Get really close and you can see it.  _MG_2431

Bringing Color Back

My title sounds like a Justin Timberlake song, "Bringing Sexy Back" however I'm not talking sexy! I'm talking about bringing color back.  How about Color Challenges!

Here is the thing, I love color & I love a good challenge.  So why did I let go of the challenges? I didn't think you liked them.  Truth!

Then I started hearing from a few of you that YOU did like them.  Imagine my smile.  Pretty cheesy actually.

So… I'm bringing the color challenge back.  It's going to be a bit different.  I love to find color inspiration all over the internet, magazines, and even while I'm out and about.

Once I have the color inspiration I love the fun of going to my Stampin' Up! color palette and making it work the Stampin' Up! way.

Are you in? I hope so. We can all be inspired by color.

I found this beautiful color palette from The Ardent Sparrow.

Coral & Goldenrod

I think the Stampin' Up! colors would be:

Kimberly Van Diepen, Stampin' Up!

So Saffron

Crushed Curry

Calypso Coral

Melon Mambo

Strawberry Slush (not pictured yet)

You don't have to use all the colors.  Choose 3!

Leave a link to your project in my comments section.

I can't wait to see what you do with these colors.

I'll be posting a new Color Challenge on Fridays.  This gives us a weekend to play and enjoy.

Time for a card share or TWO!

Kimberly Van Diepen, Stampin' Up!

I'm using the Postage Collection stamp set again.  I love the tiny images and it works great with the Artisan Label punch.

Check out this new DSP called Birthday Basics.  Do you love the bikes? I would like one of my own.

Our new Tag a Bag Gift Boxes are going to be a really big hit. They are simple and easy to decorate and will make your gift packaging simplistic.  What do you think? I love how this demonstrator used our new Gingham Garden DSP around the box. It's a happy gift.

I wish I could take a picture of my face when I put this color challenge together.  Perfect Plum?

Okay, a little confession time!  I've used my Perfect Plum ink pad about 2 times in the last 5 years.

Don't throw rocks at me, it's just not my "thang!"

This is when challenges come in handy.  They PUSH you to try new things or in my case a very neglected color and find something GREAT about it.  While Perfect Plum may not be my favorite color choice I'm quite excited about the end result of this card.  Not to mention I used less of my favorite colors (Early Espresso & Crumb Cake) and a huge chunk of the Perfect Plum.  When you look at the Raspberry Ripple next to the Perfect Plum it's really pretty.  I *cough cough* LIKE it!  Ah… the beauty of a challenge.

I'm calling all my paper crafter friends out there to play along.  YES, YOU.  Join me in the color challenge and push yourself a little.  Leave a link in the comments or on my Facebook Page and share your project.  I would **LOVE** to see it.

If you couldn't already tell, this card has a sneak peek again.  See that CUTE Arrow Clip? It's darling and it's NEW.  I won't be holding back too much longer and I'll be sharing some new products with you.

Let me tell you about the stamp set I used on this card.  It's cute and needed the dust bunnie cloth.  Not sure why I didn't pull this great set out sooner.  Meet the stamp set, A Fitting Occasion!  I love how the majority of the stamp images fit within a coordinating punch.  That just makes stamping life EASY. Thank you, Stampin' Up!

Kimberly Van Diepen

Another product I used on this card is SUPER fun and the PERFECT Stocking Stuffer gift for a teenager, teacher or new stamping friend.  This is the Fancy Friends Kit.  You will notice on my card above I used the "friends" stamp image.   All of the products below are included in the kit for only 15.95.  INSANE. TWO stamp images, little spots… WOW!!

I think I know what you are thinking.

Stocking Stuffer? What about ME?

I understand, that's why I have one. <smile>

I highly encourage this little kit if you are looking for a gift or you want to make FAST little notecards to friends and family.  Did you know that our notecards can be mailed? Absolutely!!

It's Monday and Columbus Day!  It's a GREAT day since my Prince has the day off and the kids are in school.  WOW.  That never happens.  After an incredibly busy weekend we may just sit and stare at each other. We took the kids to Busch Gardens this past weekend for the Howl-n-Scream.  Is it bad to laugh at your kids being scared around the park? I guess it's only fair since they laughed at me once or twice.  <sigh>  We had a blast and the kids were exhausted after a really fun weekend.

Today's card is from a color challenge that I hold on my Facebook Fan Page every Tuesday.
