Staying Put & A Winner!

Staying Put & A Winner!

I’m not sure where to start today.  I’m completely humbled from all of your comments.  I want to answer all of them…. it might take a little while but give me time.
I’m blown away by how many of you took the time to comment.  I totally get busy lives, but your comments were so kindly written… I’m truly thankful.

I guess the first thing I want to say is… I’m not going anywhere and blogging will always continue. Although there are many things I want to quit lately, blogging isn’t one of them.  It was great to hear from you because sometimes the silence is deafening.   However, I also know how busy life gets.  I pray everyday for it to slow down a bit and nothing has changed.  I’ll continue to pray about that.

I was also relieved to see so many still read blogs.  I was really taken back when I had read that article.  I can see how other social media becomes popular because it’s faster and especially with today’s  craziness it makes life easier.  As one of you stated in  your comments it social media tends to lack the personal side.  Lord knows I have shared my own dirty laundry with you, a few times.  You’ve been up close and personal with me a few times.

Truth be known, I want to write daily.  I have piles of stuff waiting to be shared with you.  I’m not kidding.  Some days it’s not a lack of time to write as it is the heart to write.  I love love love to share with you.  Honestly, I wish you were all here to actually stamp with me.  Wouldn’t that just be the best time EVER???

Over the last few months I think it’s been the hardest since Russ had his stroke.  We’re trying to find our way into a new normal.  Plus dealing with the onset of teenagers… let me stop there.  Don’t get me wrong, we have everything to be grateful for.  BUT… finding that new normal is SO not easy when you know how much of the normal has changed. It’s dealing with that change.  Somedays are so easy and others… well let’s just say it’s not.  It can be a very dark place.  A place I’m not use to and a place I don’t like.

Of course if it wasn’t for my faith I’m sure my life would look much different.  Let me say this too… there are days I wonder where God is.  Why did this happen? What is He trying to teach me? Where can He use me? All of these things are constantly going on in my tiny little brain.  Scary, huh?? It’s when I ask God these things something crazy divine happens and I know once again He is right here with me and these crazy people in my house.

Again, I’m truly thankful you are reading.  I am thankful that you love to create.  It’s a shared passion that you and I have.  I’m here to share it with you.  I have something pretty to share today and I even have a VIDEO.  (If you fell out of your chair I hope you are okay…)

Now to pretties… and a WINNER.

Butterfly Basics, Patina Technique, Stampin' Up!

When I created this card I stumbled upon a little technique. I’m sure some one genius came up with this already as mine was purely a mistake.  But.. I loved the look after it was finished.

It reminds me of Patina.  That aged look you can get on wood or metal. Kinda greenish, typically more of a bronze look… but today I’ll take it in GOLD.

Butterfly Basics, Patina Technique, Stampin' Up!

You can see how I created it below in this short video…

Butterfly Basics, Patina Technique, Stampin' Up!
 Oh, and before we go….

When do teenagers care about the way they look? Especially boys? Thursday night Brandon went to bed with a t-shirt on backwards.  Friday when he came home from school he was wearing the same t-shirt still backwards.  Help me baby Jesus!!  The good news is he smelled great.  He loves his fancy cologne.  See, always something positive.

  1. Hi Kimberly!
Too funny about Brandon going to sleep and school in his backwards t-shirt! And cologne…where does the time go?! I remember when he was struggling with the idea of not being the man of the house anymore when Russ first returned home from a deployment, and now he is so grown up!

Congrats to Peg on winning the basket of goodies! It was a joy reading all the comments. For some reason I just got that blog post in my email, so even though I am late to the party I want to add that yours is one of the few blogs I follow and eat up every word. I started following you about the time you moved from Colorado and don’t think I’ve missed a post! I think in this world of connectivity there is less real interaction, and I like the depth that your blog allows, especially since you are so open about your family, your joys and sorrows, your triumphs and imperfections. I can relate! I love hearing about Russ, the kids, your parents, and your friends. You make your readers feel like your friends.

Lastly, I definitely have times when I wonder why something has happened to me and what He is trying to teach me, how I can live a more purposeful life. You are not alone! Thank you for being so brave and admitting you have trials, too. Your blog posts are wonderful and something I look forward to reading. Before you know it, we will be hearing about the kids dating, proms, college…time flies and it has been so nice to be a part of your world! Hugs!

  2. Congratulations, Peggy!
Kimberly, I love the patina technique and your card is simply lovely. I study your designs and sometimes I CASE your designs. You have a style I love, and is not natural to me (!), and your cards are inspiring! Thank you for your stories and your inspiration.

  3. I don’t always have the time to comment on your posts, and I know I need to. I love your style, and even though I don’t stamp much anymore, I love the creativity that always shines on your blog 🙂

Congrats to Peggy Noe (another blogger I follow)! I think God puts challenges in our lives for reasons only he knows. How we react to those new ‘normals’ or the dark places is how we learn the depth of our faith. It seems like a dark place at the time and we might visit those dark places many times in our lives. But my God always has his hand on my shoulder to turn me towards the light and joy. And as for the onset of teenage years in your household, I am afraid you might not see ‘normal’ for awhile. Hold on tight for the roller coaster ride!

  5. Hahaha I do remember asking the very same question about when my daughter and son would care about how they look. I had the opposite issue. My daughter didn’t even brush her hair without being told to. Then, all of the sudden, we went from them fighting about who had to shower first to who gets to shower first. Hubby and I were so excited for the change. It does come and it was very sudden. Glad you will continue to blog. It’s one of the only ones I follow and I am relatively new to you. Sorry I didn’t comment within time… Life and all! 🙂

  6. Hi Kimberly! I LOVE your blog. I don’t stop in everyday, but at least once a week and love to scroll and see what you’ve posted. I read a handful of blogs these days, the ones that speak to me and inspire me and you can count yours on that list!! Hugs to you and your beautiful family 🙂

  7. PS….I’m with you on the teenage boys!! Backwards t-shirts happen more often then you’d imagine….and if I could get him to comb his hair once in awhile I’d think I won the lottery.

  8. Hi, I so enjoy your creativity and hearing about your family. I’m from MN and have now lived in FL for 12 years. Stamping has been my hobby for over 20 years and I love sending notes/cards. I’m an early riser so that is when I check all of my favorite blogs….yours is among them. There are a huge amount of SU blogs I enjoy including the European ones – how fun that google translates. I have made friends with stampers from all around the world:)

Your wonderful creativity and fun personality comes through big time…love it. Pinterest is high on my list but I do not do instagram. Honey, I raised 5 kids and have 5 grown grandkids….you live thru it….try to see the humor in it – it keeps you sane! xoxo Judi

  10. Hi Kimberley, I had really wanted to comment on your original post about blogging but was running into technology issues. I was very sad at the thought that you may stop blogging. You are my inspiration and I have been following your blog since Russ was deployed! I have gone through all your ups and downs along with you and have prayed for you and your family. I love your creative style and your quirky sense of humor. I do follow you on both FB & Instagram, but it’s just not the same. I’m hoping you will continue your blog even it’s only sporadic like once a week or something. Cheers!

  11. I just checked your blog for my weekend inspiration! I got a double dose! Your awesome patina technique card and your written inspiration. I can’t tell you how amazing, real and inspiring you are. You rock. Thank you. Merrily

  12. Kimberly,

I too am late to the comment party, but as you know, life happens and I didn’t get to comment. I wanted to comment, not to win something but to let you know, yes I do like reading blogs and I like reading blogs that show a little bit of life too and not just inspiration, even though I love that too. You are sharing what you love and your life….and just from reading a few comments, that is what we like.

Lots of people praying for you and your family — so you are not alone… little prayer warriors lifting you up.

Thank you for sharing you with us!

  13. Congrats to Peggy….love your blog Kimberly, blessing to you and your precious family!! ????

  14. Kimberly, I am guilty of just “stalking” and rarely commenting. I have followed you for a long time and love your cheerful outlook on life, even when you are busy squeezing those lemons so you can make lemonade. You remind me of a sweet friend (you know her because she used to be a SU demo) who is super fun and has a sunny disposition. She is my daughter’s age, but was my upline…Christie Daugherty. Hang in there. God is ALWAYS watching over you and He always has your best interests at heart. I currently have 4 teen-age grandchildren, and 3 young ones who are 6, 7, 7 1/2, so emotions and activity pretty much run the gamut when we are all together! I did not enjoy the teen years very much with my own 3 children, but it is part of the separation stage. Remember when they were between 1 & 2 and how they hated for you to leave them? You left them because you needed to go and they needed to learn that you would return. I think the teen years are preparation for that same separation, but in reverse. We raise our children to be independent and to think for themselves, etc. but then get upset when they actually do it and it isn’t what we would have done. Not that it’s wrong, just not what you were expecting, or the choice that you would have made. It is hard not to take it personally or feel it is a reflection on you when they do odd things, but if anyone ever lived with a teen for a day, then they “understand” as much as one can “understand” when dealing with these foreign objects. I have prayed for you and Russ and your family and will continue to do so. Thank you for giving us a chance to share in your life and to enjoy your creativity. Your style is very different from mine, but I still enjoy reading your blog. Forgive me for not commenting more often but as you can see, that is probably for the best because I am not at a loss for words!!

  15. Hello Kimberly: A dear friend of mine who is also a card swapping buddy, told me about you a while back but, apparently I neglected to subscribe to your blog, but I will do that as soon as I finish this comment.
I love your style, it’s always very fresh and eclectic, beautifully done, like this card, I love all the layers and the amazing texture you added down to the staples, really, it’s amazing.
Thank you for your video to show how to make a card like yours, I think I will give this a try.
And you are right…..I have a teen age grandson, he will be 15 in September and, if he is here when he and his sisters spend the night so their parents can go out, he really doesn’t care at all what he wears, he is tall and skinny, sweet as pie, quiet and funny at the same time.
I had daughters, so he is the only one who is teaching me how teen boys behave, love it.
Thank you for sharing your card and your stories, they both inspire and teach.
    Keep on stamping.
    Maria.

  16. Kimberly,
I follow your blog and get email updates whenever you post but lately I have not been getting notified until several days after you have posted. love reading your blog and often check in the morning to see if you have posted for the day but this one and the previous one were not posted to my email until days later. Just wondering if there is some kind of glitch? Thanks for checking. Wonder if there are others that this is happening to?Beth
