Don’t Make Crafting So Difficult…

Don’t Make Crafting So Difficult…

Okay crafters, let’s be completely straight up today.

When is the last time you created something?  Card, scrapbook page, or ANYTHING?

I’ve heard from many of you that you haven’t pulled out the crafting supplies in awhile.  I can understand this statement! I GET IT!!

In fact, walk with me into your crafting area right now. Are your supplies loaded with dust bunnies? Are there piles of “projects to do” on your crafting desk?

-OR- could you be completely overwhelmed because it’s been awhile since you walked into your crafting area and you don’t know where to start?

You might have a case of the mojo gone bye bye syndrome.

I’m here to tell you that’s a lousy place to be and I’ve been there more times than I can count.  In fact, as you know I was there recently.

I remember walking back into my craft room with big eyes and saying to myself, “Where doI begin?”  The feeling was so overwhelming that I had to walk away.  I honestly didn’t know where or what to start with.  It reminds me when my kids were toddlers and their room would look like a tornado had made an appearance.  The look on my kids faces when told to “clean up” was priceless.  Priceless because I have that same look walking back into my crafting area after a long absence.  Completely overwhelmed.

Many of you work full time or have a lot sitting on your shoulders due to family illness, or physical burdens.  My heart aches because I know what that’s like.  Quite frankly it just stinks to be in that “place!”

Today I hope I can help you overcome some of that feeling of being overwhelmed and get you to take one small baby step into that crafting room and create something.  You might find this to be the one thing to bring a huge smile to your face today.  The one thing that can make your heart full.  Maybe even the one thing that gets you back to the happy you know you’ve had before but it’s been lost for awhile.

Let’s go back to your stamp room…

I’m going to share a card with you today that uses A TON of white space and a little stamping.  We are keeping it SIMPLE DIMPLE.  The goal is to get some white paper, maybe add a little color and then a focal point and BAM we have a card.

Are you with me?

It doesn’t matter WHAT stamp you are using.  Find a stamp that is speaking to you right NOW.

Okay, let’s stamp!

First, let me tell you this is a sneak peek stamp set called Peaceful Pines from the new Holiday Catalog.

It doesn’t matter… Your card doesn’t have to be Christmas either.  It can be anything.

Peaceful Pines Stamp Set, Stampin' Up!, Christmas

Notice there is a lot of white with a hint of color.

  1. Whisper White 4 1/ 4 x 11
  2. Whisper White 3 1/2 x 4 3/4
  3. Whisper White 2 1/2 x 2 1/2
  4. Melon Mambo 2 3/4 x 2 3/4
  5. Whisper White scrap

Each layer I used dimensionals to give my card more depth.

Find your focal image and maybe a greeting to match.  Stamp and put all the layers together.  Add one splash of color.  Your choice.

Pick a coordinating ribbon or even different color cardstock to use where the ribbon is.  Look on your desk… you might find a piece of something you can use.  Remember, we are keeping this simple.

Take a good look at your beautiful creation.  Is your heart full? Is there a smile on YOUR face? The idea is to create.  Create something small to recharge that mojo.  Baby steps.  You’ve heard the old saying, “You can only eat an elephant one bite at a time.”  It doesn’t matter if your area is in shambles.  The only thing that matters today is that you create something.

I would love to see what you created.  Share with ME, PLEASE??? Link your card in the comments so I can take a peek.  I’ll be picking a random card and I want to showcase it on my blog.  You have until 11:59 Central Time Friday, August 28th to link your card in a comment. I’ll draw a winner on Saturday, August 29th.

I cannot wait to see what YOU create.  We are ALL in this together friends.  We are all here to uplift and inspire each other.

Love to each and every one of you.

XOXOXOXO

  1. Thank you – I really need this. I just look at my stuff lately, but haven’t created a thing. And I do so love to create. I love the fun card you created and need to begin holiday cards. thank you!

  2. Kimberly, I so relate to what you are saying. I went through several months recently where I was not motivated to create. I was going into my craft room but pretty much just to use my laptop. I would look at my stuff (and there is a lot of it) and pull out a few things with the hope of creating something. Most often I left the room with those supplies sitting in the middle of the table. At the beginning of the summer I knew I had a lot of birthday cards to make so sat myself down and made one It felt great and now I am back to making a card or two every day. A great way to get a head start on the cards I will need over the coming months. As soon as I read this post I turned to my craft table and saw that I had a couple of stamp sets and ink waiting to be put away so I used your card to create a very similar one using those sets. I am very happy. You can see my card here – http://parttimestamper.blogspot.ca/2015/08/are-your-crafting-supplies-collecting.html

Thank you so much for the motivating words

    Marjorie

  3. You are such an encourager!! You have a wonderful way of writing, like you are in the room with me, talking like friends. Thank you for being REAL. It’s refreshing.

  4. My heart is so burdened. I am going through a horrific divorce and custody battle. I actually contemplated selling my craft supplies. Your post really stuck with me. Maybe it will be like therapy to get in there and just make something. I always love your posts and your work. You are so inspiring! Thank you.

  5. Stephanie, first I want to let you know that I will be praying for God to guide you during this difficult time. If I can tell you the ONE thing that never changed during a fast life changing experience was God still loved me. He loves you too. Second, don’t sell those supplies. I challenge you to just take 20 minutes today. Make a tag. Something that will bring a smile to your face. Crafting is therapy. It gives us that joy deep in our souls. Your soul needs it. Lean on God first, and your crafting community second. We are here to help you through this. XOXOXO
