Return of Glossy Paper

OnStage Display Stamping, Stampin' Up!

Return of Glossy Paper

The return of glossy paper in the Stampin’ Up! catalog is going to make many paper crafters happy.  While it’s been a long time since I used Glossy Paper, I felt accomplished remembering a few techniques.

I think having this paper on hand again will help both customers and demonstrators enjoy more stamping techniques that only work with this type of paper.

Working with Glossy Paper

Like I said, it’s been awhile since I had worked with Glossy Paper.  I started with the very basic technique I remembered… re-inkers.  Long ago one of my favorite techniques was called Polished Stone.  The basics of this technique involves re-inkers, a sponge, Rubbing Alcohol and a metallic re-inker.

Since I didn’t have a metallic re-inker on hand, I kept it even more basic and used all of the above supplies except for the metallic.

Grab Your Supplies

To create the background of this card, grab the following supplies:

  • Bermuda Bay, Dapper Denim re-inkers and Lemon Lime Twist Classic Ink Pad.
  • Rubbing Alcohol
  • Sponge

When I created this background I wanted to add the Lemon Lime Twist ink but did not have the re-inker.  I simply added color to my sponge from the Lemon Lime Twist ink pad and then added a few drops of Bermuda Bay and Dapper Denim Re-inkers to the sponge.

Once I added all of the ink to the sponge I added the Rubbing Alcohol to the sponge.   Then swirl the sponge around the Glossy Paper to see the different inks move together.  Something to note, I was very generous with the ink. This made the inks have a fun swirly look.  If I wasn’t achieving the effect, I added a little more rubbing alcohol.

Once you have added the ink, you will want to let the paper dry.  Because I’m impatient, I carefully heated with my heat tool.  The paper did curl a little bit, but once I layered it onto the Whisper White Thick cardstock it was fine.

Finishing the Card

  • Now that my background was finished and layered onto the card base, it was time to finish the card.  I added a piece of the new Eastern Palace Specialty Designer Series Paper along with a piece of Lemon Lime Twist cardstock.
  • The greeting was stamped from the Label Me Pretty stamp set.  I then die cut the image using Stitched Shapes framelits and layered this onto a piece of Dapper Denim cardstock punched from the Pretty Label punch.
  • I added a few stitches from my sewing machine over the Lemon Lime Twist 1/2″ Finely Woven Ribbon and a Delicate White Doily.
