Coming Out of the Crafting Closet

Coming Out of the Crafting Closet

Ut-oh!  Say what Kimberly??

Yes.  Let me confess.  I am a crafter.  A crafter who loves ALL crafts especially paper crafts.

I’m pretty sure that most of you will be able to relate to this post as crafters and I hope you will keep in mind my ginormous HEART for all things Stampin’ Up! and NOTHING changes that.  PERIOD.

BUT… I am a shopper.  I am a hoarder.  When I see pretty paper or stamps… I buy it.  It’s pretty simple.  It’s almost like a disease.  If it’s pretty I want it.

This brings me to my very large dilemma.

I love to share.  I am always afraid to share the “contraband” crafting pretties that I have created.  Afraid that my long time Stampin’ Up! sisters might look at me with a FREAK look on their faces and ask, “What the heck are you doing Kimberly?”

This fear is so much so, that I use my “hidden” crafting supplies and don’t share.

Two things happen with this.  1st- You don’t get to see something I think is really cute.  2nd- I feel a big lump in my throat that I’m being a bad girl.

Yes, at 44 I’m feeling shame.  FOR REALZ.

That’s going to STOP because the reality is life is short, I am enjoying it and I’m going to share that JOY with you.  PERIOD.

In this big GREAT crafting community that we all love,  we have an opportunity to share our talents, crafting disease and rejoice together in the beautiful things we make.  I shouldn’t be stuffed in a closet creating with my pretties.  I love that I can use my hoarded supplies and coordinate them with Stampin’ Up! … and GUESS WHAT? They look beautiful together.

I think the reason THIS POST comes to life is from working on some of my Project Life layouts.  I have Project Life coming out of my ears.  I can’t help it.  Becky Higgins has done a phenomenal job with the designers she has chosen and 100% of all the cards I’ve ever seen are a must have.  I started Project Life prior to Stampin’ Up! teaming up with Becky.  However, my poor PL cards have a very thick layer of dust on them because my heart said I shouldn’t use them and only Stampin’ Up!  Ummm… that’s not the way it should BE.

After working on this project that Heidi Swapp started a week ago…. I can’t do it anymore.  I am loving this project.  Capture Life.  If I’m going to be real about capturing LIFE then I’m going to be REAL and use all the supplies I have sitting in this big ole mess of a crafting room I have.  It’s LIFE.  My life consists of ALL kinds of paper crafts that I LOVE LOVE LOVE.  (Read more about Heidi’s Capture Life project HERE.)

Like I said in this previous post, we ALL have a story to tell. The  good, bad and even the ugly.  I love to capture these stories because it leaves me some hope.  On those particular days that I have no hope left… I look back at previous pictures and layouts I’ve created and know there is hope.  That life can be filled with many challenges but we survive.  With our without the superwoman cape on.  Let’s share it.   ALL of it.

So today I am here to share it.  I hope you don’t mind.

For the last 6 months I’ve been “collecting” my Ali Edwards Story Kits.  These are stamps and pocket cards and do-dad galore.  I love them.  They have sat on my desk for a long long time.

Please someone pipe up and tell me I’m not the only one???

This weekend I brushed the dust off and I fell in love with these pages I created.

All of these layouts will fit into my 6 x 8 Espresso Album using the 6 x 8 Variety Pack of Pocket Pages.  I love this album because I can decorate the front cover.  I’m excited about a new 6 x 8 Album that Stampin’ Up! will release on September 1st.  It’s ALL Kraft.  Squeal.  Perfect for making the cover personalized. (Click HERE for Project Life by Stampin’ Up! Kits!)

The biggest question I’ve received from Instagram or my Facebook Page on these layouts (I share daily there) is the printing.

I’m printing straight from my iPhone to my home printer for this particular album.  Typically I will send my prints through Walgreens or Persnickety Prints is another fantastic choice.  Both of these companies do different sizes you need.

Honestly, I’m not looking for perfect printed photos.  I’m looking to get the photos from my iPhone printed.  Then I can tell my story.

It’s another beautiful way to create.

Will you join me? Are you doing this challenge? I’d love to hear and see your story.

Of course, I pray this post didn’t ruffle any feathers.  Let me be clear… I love being a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator because I absolutely know we have fantastic stamps, ink and paper.  The best… really.  BUT I’m stepping out of my crafting hiding closet because I know that Stampin’ Up! products coordinate beautifully with SO many other great products in this amazing industry.

Stay tuned… there will be more pages coming.  This is a journey and one I’m totally enjoying.

My favorite this week is the Very Very Thankful Framable Download.  Ironically every Thanksgiving I pass around tags for each of us to write the things we are grateful for and they always go in a scrapbook so we can reflect on these things year after year.  I love that Stampin' Up! has created my tag for me this year and I LOVE that I can make this any size.  This year I will make this a frame so we can reflect on blessings EVERYDAY!!  What is your FAVORITE Download today?

You can find all of these downloads in my Online Digital Store.

*Now for a Digital Layout*

I've got ALL kinds of great projects in the works right now.  This layout is one of the big projects I'm working to bring to you!  Over the years I've held traditional Scrapbooking classes called "All About Me!"  Being an avid scrapbooker I scrapbook EVERYTHING except ONE thing-  ME! I'm always behind the camera taking the pictures of my sweet family, dog, cats, guinea pigs… you get the idea.  Sadly, when you open my scrapbooks you don't see many pictures of ME.  Many years ago I put together a scrapbook for a friend who was dying of cancer.  She wanted to create an album for her children so she could leave HER legacy behind.  It was a hard scrapbook to create but it was one of my favorites.  After creating that album, I started my own.  Life is short and I want my kids to know who I am.   This includes the good, the bad and the ugly.  This album is filled with journaling from the heart and probably one of the hardest pieces of putting the album together.  My goal is to help you create an album so that you can leave your legacy behind for your loved ones.  I'll be debuting this online class and all the fun details in the next couple of weeks.

This layout above is a sneak peek of the first page… the cover!

You can see all the downloads used for this layout HERE.

I'll be sharing a new Color Challenge on my Facebook Fan Page today along with a fun card using the Color Challenge.  Make sure to check it out.

Make it a GREAT Tuesday!

It was HER day!

Yesterday my sweet princess turned 9! WOW does time fly.  The biggest hit of the day was having her dad home for her birthday.  I remember when we sat the kids down to tell them Russ was going overseas and the FIRST thing Alexis said to him was, "You're going to miss my birthday!"

We celebrated her day ALL day yesterday.  She really was treated with royalty.  Brandon wanted to start her day off right by serving her breakfast in bed.  I couldn't believe this was his idea.  The kids are going through the "stop looking at me" stage.  I was relieved to still hear kindness from there mouths.

Here is the start of her day!

Brandon was wearing the Justin Bieber hat when he woke Alexis up.  He told her it was cold and maybe she should wear it.  Again, I wanted to faint from all the *LOVE* I was seeing.

Russ and I had lunch with the Princess at school.  She really wanted to go to the American Girl Doll store in DC but the only thing I could think about was the traffic getting there.  I compromised with her and said we will go this weekend. Instead I took her to have a Pedicure.  Of course I enjoyed one too. <smile>

Extremely relaxing!  We both enjoyed.  We came home to pick up the boys and then we were off to her "spot" for dinner.  After dinner we topped the evening off with a fun birthday cake and 9 spankings and a pinch to grow an inch!

I used all kinds of new products on this card.  The stamp set is called Sweet Cake.  Super cute and the BEST thing I love about this card is something you cannot really SEE or SMELL! I added the Vanilla Scented Stampin' Emboss Powder to the swirls on the cupcake.  LOVE that we have these embossing powders. We also carry Melon and Cherry.  How fun is that? I used a VersaMarker so that I could emboss in that tiny area.  She could smell the Vanilla as soon as she opened it.

Other fun products on this card that I used would be the Sweet Shop DSP.  I love that this DSP can be used for so many occasions.  From Birthday, Valentines or just a Candy kind of card.  Very fun.  I used the new pleated ribbon along with some new Lucky Limeade Bakers Twine.  I even used some Seam Binding ribbon.  Lots of fun things.

As always, you can find all these fun products in my Online Store

This weekend Alexis has her birthday party with friends.  I'll share her birthday invitation soon.  She is having a Doll & Me Tea with her friends at a special tea shop.  I'm not sure who is more excited, her or myself.

Have a fabulous week!

Crazy Summer Life!

Oh good grief! I did it again. It was NOT my intention to leave you hanging the last week or so.  However a few things got in my way.  I'll be brief!

*Alexis decided we needed to visit the ER and they decided she had a UTI! She feels much better!

*We were frantically packing for our Crazy Summer Vacation!

*We drove like mad for TWO days to get to Florida!

*We have spent everyday in the pool until our fingers and toes look really crazy wrinkly.

*We are finally sporting a nice tan and do not look like tourists!

This pretty much sums up what we've been up to. It was the craziest few weeks I've had.

I want to say thank you again for the heartfelt comments, emails and support you have given my family.  The emails with resources for Alexis are appreciated more than I can express.  Since we have been in Florida my girl has been so busy and distracted that all we've seen her do is smile and play.  Exactly what an 8yr old does.  You can tell she is relaxed.  This in turn makes me relax.  Something I haven't felt in a few months.  Brandon has been on overdrive since we arrived too.  It's so funny.  He's already been fishing, playing in the pool and even shot a BB Gun for the first time.  It's the crazy summer life I love to have.  Busy, playing and enjoying every minute. Here is a photo of Alexis enjoying the Fourth of July.  It was a great 4th of July! Big fireworks too! We thought about the Prince and even talked to him for a wee bit.

Let's talk business for a minute.  Are you excited about the new catalog? Oh it's a beauty.  The samples are amazing and the new stamps are awesome. There are a few specials you will want to check out on my website too.  If you have ever thought about becoming a demonstrator there is a fantastic special going on RIGHT NOW!  $99! Too good to pass up!

A couple of weeks ago I participated in a swap with my team.  They are super talented and creative! Here is my swap I created.

I love that chubby little bird.  This is a new set in the catalog called Best of Everything.Just super cute. If you need a catalog, please email me directly:  I can mail you one. Interested in any of the specials? Email me and I can give you more details or visit my website HERE.

Over the next couple of days I plan to work in my Mom's stamp room.  While it's not my normal work space, the best part is being able to stamp with my mom.  I packed a lot of stamping supplies and a few pairs of underware. LOL!!!

Have a fabulous weekend.

Fitting Update on Russ

Kimberly Van Diepen, Stampin' Up! Demonstrator

I think it's only fitting on Father's Day to give you an update on one of my favorite men, my Prince. I was so thankful that we were able to Skype with him today and tell him how much we love and miss him.  He is a GREAT daddy! When you're on Deployment, the holidays run together because everyday is Monday.  He didn't realize that today was HIS day.  Instead he worked 17+ hours.  This seems to be a typical day for Russ.  As the story goes he sleeps, eats and works.  Then the same thing happens the next day over and over again.  We are lucky enough to talk to him almost daily for a few minutes each day.  He looks great, but I am pretty bias.  He is tired but he wouldn't tell you that. He tries really hard to keep a positive outlook on everything.  This is why I love him so much.  Even during a crappy situation (Ummm… LIKE this!) he will find something FANTASTIC about it!

No worries, my husband is protecting your safety.  ROFL.  I have to laugh at this photo because Russ seems to be obsessed with toilets overseas.  Not sure of the story behind this photo but I thought it was pretty funny that he has potty patrol.  This is my hero!

One of our friends invited us over for dinner tonight.  It was a coworker of Russ from the Pentagon.  I was so grateful for this invite.  It meant we were able to get out of our house and celebrate rather than sit at home and be sad.  The kids have been doing so great since we came home from the cruise and I want it to continue.  Don't get me wrong, there are still moments but they are much more under control.  Thank God!

This week was a tough week for me.  I did a few STUPID things which could have played a good role into my mood.  Could have been the moon. Who knows? I am female and totally allowed to have these moments.  I just make sure I can pull myself out of the them otherwise we are in trouble. This means I do a lot of self talk and SO very thankful for my friends that can make me laugh until I almost wet my pants. They are the BEST!

The kids are now on Summer Break and thrilled.  I'm thrilled because I'm a night owl and this means I can sleep in just a wee bit.  It's a good thing.

Here is a few pictures captured today of my kids.

Lastly, this is what I made for my Prince.

I thought the stamp set was perfect to use for a Father's Day card for him.  I didn't put a Father's Day sentiment on the card because I wasn't sure the card would make it in time.  I am so glad this set will continue on into the new catalog.  You can check out this set and much more in my Online Store.  I stamped until 3am last night with a friend of mine.  It was so much fun and I got a lot of stamping done.  I'll be back tomorrow to share more.

Thank you for your continued Prayers for Russ! We can't thank you enough.

Have a GREAT week!
