Best Decision Ever?

About a week ago I asked the question on my Facebook Fan page… what is ONE of your BEST decisions ever? I loved hearing the responses and so many were similar.

Best Decision Ever, Stampin' Up!, Mosaic Madness

Notice I said, ONE of your best decisions ever.  I know we all have many great decisions that we’ve made.  I want to talk about one of mine with you today.  I even created a card about it.  <It’s actually for a few special people…explain in a bit>

10 1/2 years ago I joined Stampin’ Up!  After being with other direct sales companies for quite some time I fell in love right away with Stampin’ Up!  You know, one of those “love at first sight” type of deals.  I had always been a scrapbooker and never heard about stamping.  I opened that catalog for the first time and was blown away.  So many pens, pretty images and paper.  I have a serious addiction to pens.  Just love them.  I might even steal yours if I like it a lot.

Of course I had to explain to my Prince that this Stampin’ Up! thing was IT.  After being with two previous direct sales companies I wasn’t sure if I could really talk him into it.  I guess my begging eyes worked.

Now this story sounds all fluffy and lovey dovey but I have a point to all of this in just a second.

First I have to tell you a big secret.  When I received my kit with all my cool stamps inside the prince and I sat down to look at all my goodies.  I was totally giddy.  When I pulled one of the stamp sets out to play they were BROKE.  There were wood blocks and rubber things not put together.  I told Russ they had made a mistake and we would have to call them in the morning.  Thank God Russ has a brain.  He read the fine print that said we had to put them together.  Let’s just say this was the WORST stamp set I put together. I had NO clue what I was doing but I was excited about it. I’m thankful for how they come today.  <smile>

My business didn’t take off right away.  I was enjoying every step of the way and most of all making new friends and stamping together.

So why was this really the BEST decision ever?

I have always known I made a great decision but it wasn’t until recently that I figured out it was the BEST!

Over the last three months since Russ had his stroke I was able to step back from my business and take care of my love.  I have stepped back in previous years during deployments but this time I literally set it D.O.W.N.  My doors were closed for 2 1/2 months.  My entire focus was on Russ and the kids.

It was during this time I was able to see just how much of an impact this company has made in my families life.  The moment I put a post on Facebook to pray for Russ it was like a chain reaction and my phone was on fire as WE were being lifted up by prayer.  Stamping sisters texting, instant messaging and sending the most incredible love I have ever felt.  My fellow demonstrator leaders rallied together and helped so I wouldn’t loose my status because they knew I wouldn’t be able to work.  The company emails from corporate sending their love and prayers.  My customers sending their love and prayers and telling me to LET IT GO and focus completely on Russ and the kids.

Yes, this was hands down ONE of the best decisions I’ve made.  I realized that not only is this a great “job” but it’s the best community of love and support.  Every day we still hear from our friends lifting Russ and our family up in prayer.  My kids learned so many amazing lessons during all of this and one thing for sure they learned …this “stamping” thing is more than just playing with stamps.  No, it’s much much bigger than that.

My decision is definitely one of the best.  I am thankful, SO very thankful for Stampin’ Up!

I’m going to extend the best thing that happened to me to YOU.  10 years ago had Darlene not called me on the phone to book a workshop I wouldn’t be writing this story today.  It’s a great story and one I would love to see you write about one day.

It doesn’t matter who you choose as your upline, I’m not trying to promote myself (although I am a fun girl).  I want you to have a piece of what I have.  A community of fun fun fun people who get to play with stamps.  Yes, that’s exactly what it is.  OH and you can make money doing it.

So the BIG question is, what is one of your Best Decisions EVER?  Leave a comment, I would love to hear.

Let’s chat about the card…

My new demonstrators will be receiving this once I finish them… YIKES!  I want them to know I think they made the BEST decision.

Thank you for listening to me today.  I know it may seem like a little babble, but I just had to share.

  1. That’s fantastic Kimberly. You know that prayers definitely work and I’m so glad that Russ is doing well. You were missed but your family comes first always. The Best Decision I ever made was having my son. He was such a wonderful baby and little boy and now he has grown into an awesome young man. I have taught him compassion, tolerance and patience, of course he is still working on the tolerance and patience, 🙂 but aren’t we all. It’s not always easy.

  2. I love your story and appreciate you share so much with all of us. I first joined SU in 1999 and had to drop a couple of years later. One of my best decisions ever was re-joining July 2006 – SU and I sure have come a long way since 1999 baby!

  3. GORGEOUS! Kimberly!! wow…. love the colors!!
One of my best decisions was to give up selling Longaberger and just work with Stampin’ UP!. I love to stamp, have always been into some kind of craft since I was a kid… Since I am retired and alone, it keeps me SANE!!! Can’t keep away from the stamps!! TFS. Keep up the beautiful work!

  4. Best decision ever? Moving to Oklahoma City, Ok from a small town in Minnesota 29 years ago in March over a spring break. My husband died in 2008 from complications from a stroke. He was 49. My friends here are the best and I have a lot so stampin up sisters here. I miss my dad back in my hometown, but the friend and life I have is great. And the weather is a bonus.

This is not babble, it is great story telling from the heart – I love it! I love Stampin Up as well and all the wonderful people I have met in person and virtually. It is an amazing experience. Big hugs to you.

  6. Lovely post, lovely card! Who knew when I first went to a Stampin’ Up workshop as “non-crafty” girl that I would one day become an Artisan Award winner? The friendships, the encouragement and the extraordinary support have helped me feed a side I didn’t know existed. Thanks for sharing your story. Thanks for all you have done for our stamping community!!

  7. Hi there – very touching story. I love this card! Followed it here from Pinterest. What is that yellow splatter looking stuff on the card and how did you do that?

  8. Hi Patti, The splatter was created using Gold Smooch Pearlized Accent Ink. Stampin’ Up! use to carry it but we do not anymore. It was made by Clear Snap so they may still carry it. It looks like a nail polish bottle and then I just tap it with my Bone Folder. Then it gets a nice spray of Gold Accent. It’s one of my favorite products and although it’s retired, I still love it and use it. 🙂 Thanks for stopping by my website. I appreciate you. XO

  9. Thank you so much for the quick answer! It is a beautiful finishing touch. I love your creativity and will be following your amazing creations. Keep up the great work! 🙂
