My 5 Favorite Things- Digital Style!

First let me say to all my amazing customers and readers…. I know I'm on a paper crafting hiatus, but don't give up on me.  I know it won't be too much longer. <sigh>

I don't know about you but my "favorite" things list always changes.  In fact I'm one of those girls who loves to scrapbook about my favorite things each year and I love seeing how they change.

Heather and I thought it would be a fun digital challenge to create a layout around your 5 favorite things.  This challenge is really wide open.  Seriously, you can do so many great layouts around this theme – Top 5 Favorite Things!

My Digital Studio, MDS

I was browsing the internet when I stumbled across a layout very similar to this one.  Since my creative inspiration is at an all time low with this crazy move, I needed to draw my inspiration from others. The internet is my creative mojo right now!  For me, it's the bomb diggity right now.

Typically for a theme such as 5 favorite things I would use pictures as my focal point to describe my 5 favs.  This time I decided to use titles & journaling to describe my top 5 things and then a list of what they are.  It turned out to be my Top 25!  I like it.  Actually, I love it.

Watch the video below to see a few design tips for creating this layout:

Moving news…

The adventure continues.  Of course we hit a snag.  We knew it would happen and today was the day.  We've been so excited about the flooring going in.  The wood is complete and looks amazing. I love love love it.  The carpet is in the procress of being completed however we are short on carpet.  I guess when it was measured they didn't include the closets.  ??? SERIOUSLY???Not a big deal at first but then the way the carpet was cut it became a bigger deal.  All rooms will be completed except for Alexis room which will still need a 12 x 4 ft piece.

Today I had a good cry.  It was needed.  It was coming.  It's been coming for awhile.  I'm trying SO hard to be patient. It's all coming along great, but the last few days I can tell I'm tired.  We've been working in the house long hours everyday as well as working around the kids schedules and I'm just tired.  Thankful, yet SO TIRED!

It was a healthy cry and I feel like I can take on another few weeks.  We haven't decided if we are going to wait for the piece of carpet to come in before moving in or what.  That could mean another 2 weeks of staying at my parents.  It's been a wonderful stay but I'm sure they must be done with us.  LOL.  We have stuff everywhere.  My OCD organized self is about to land in the funny farm from EXTREME disorganization.

Can anyone relate to this? Am I just going crazy mad?

I can't believe it's been a month since they packed our stuff.  WHOA!!

Good news.  Russ has a new vehicle.  He is now the proud owner of a truck.  He is so excited.  It's a good thing because he would have been friends with Yellow Cab come Tuesday morning.  There was no way we could survive on 1 vehicle and his work schedule.

Bad news… my Starbucks in farther than I like.  I know, petty. You don't have to tell me.  It's become a "treat" to go get my favorite drink instead of a daily thing.  I plan to write Starbucks once I get settled.  They need to know I need a store down the street from my house.

I'm going to continue to be strong…

Keeping my chin up and I can't thank you enough for always listening to me babble!  I'll be back to my paper crafting self soon. It's just not as soon as I thought it would be.

XOXOXO

  1. I regularly read your blog and I have enjoyed hearing about your moving process (I have NEVER moved in my entire life other than a mile from myparents when I got married so it has been intersting reading what it is like).  As much as I wish everything had gone smoothly for you, I have to admit it is refreshing to hear that others have loves that are sometimes organized and sometimes crazy chaos!  Sometimes I feel it is just me that feels like having a breakdown due to life being too chaotic at times!  You sharing your stories makes me smile with familiarity and it also helps me to laugh and persevere when my life gets bumpy.  I love your creativity and I love your openess!

  2. Keep going Kimberly!

I have moved several times, and am a perfectionist when it comes to organization, and I can relate – add reno on top of move and I would have needed an Island holiday (very much alone!) long before you! Thank you for sharing your adventures, loving every minute of my daily reading! I have been in awe that you are still commenting on the FB challenge too – you are Heather are the "BESTESTS"!! We're thinking of you 🙂

  3. Ahhhh….the ebb and flow of military moves!  We're Navy, stationed in CA now.  But when you were getting ready for your move down to FL from VA, we were prepping for our x-country move from VA Beach to San Diego.  2 kids and big dog in tow…and 2 Prius'.  We were a circus from any angle.  And we went from a 3000 sqft house to a 1500 sqft house.  No lie!!  And I cried.  More than once.  But now…I love this tiny house with a harbor view!  In regards to the carpet mis-measurement…what the???  That's the 2nd time in a year that I've heard of that EXACT thing happening.  Hang in there.  We military spouses are nothing, if not roll-with-it-ers!!

  4. Hi Kimberly! It is amazing that you have accomplished so much in just one month!! I think it's time for you to go get that treat at Starbucks so you can refresh and renew! I hope you do move into the house…if that one piece of carpet is the only thing holding you back, just think that most carpet installations are done in fully furnished homes! It will be so nice for you to be back into your own routine, get the kids on the bus, and turn the new place into your home! I'm sure your parents love having you but maybe it will be easier on you to move once and for all. Whatever you decide, good luck wrapping things up…you're almost there!

  5. SO SO true my friend.  My mom was very sweet tonight and said we could stay as long as we needed. LOL.  We are just ready to get our junk. 🙂

  6. Oh Sarah!  We’ve made that cross country move before. That’s a tough one. LOL.  We also dropped square footage here and we are tying to figure out where all the junk is going. This could be the hardest part of the move.  Ugh. I can’t wait to see how it’s all going to work. We only lost 900 sq ft but most of that was my stamp room.  Eeek.  Hope you are settling in.  Our time is coming…  XO

  7. LOL. Thank you Lyn.  It’s definitely put a strain on my OCD.  I know where everything is- except now I know where nothing is.  So frustrating.  MDS has been a great release once a week. I wish I could do more but the renovations on the house has me so busy that night time I fall on the couch and I’m OUT!!  Soon this will be all behind me.    XOXOXO

  8. LOL, Nicole… my life is always chaos.  It’s how we roll.  LOL.  I felt 100% better after my really good cry yesterday.  Before we moved I think that was the craziest my life had ever been.  Now it’s crazy but a little more controlled.  Is there such a thing????  VA was so busy all the time.  At least living in the south makes me feel I’m going at a VERY slow pace.  That’s a wonderful thing.  🙂  Thank you for taking the time to read all my adventures.  It’s always something. In fact today my car quit AGAIN.  Grr… XOXOXO

  9. I'm glad you had a good cry!  Sometimes, you can't move on without it.  Buy yourself an expresso machine!  I even make my own vanilla flavoring (of course, the closest Starbucks to me is 110 miles away!).

Best of luck the next few weeks, I hope you decide to move in and not wait for carpeting.  You need to move in, organize, relax and be you! (and all I have to whine about is having to cut firewood for the winter up here in Montana!)

    Best wishes dear MDS teacher!

  10. Oops! espresso machine, LOL.  Of course, it really is an EXpresso machine because you don't have to wait for your fav drink!

  11. Ladies:  I have the highest respect for the WIVES of our military men.  The WIVES keep the whole thing rolling smoothly.  The U.S. Government does not have a clue of the real meaning of "keeping the home fires burning!"

  12. oh KImberly hang in there. Just think of the reward once its finished. I have a sort of OCD but with two adult children still living at home and now a 10 month old grandson it's hard and so frustrating but mostly my SU is growing to large for my house and I just can't seem to get rid of any of my retired stamps…..I keep saying I am going to do it and never do! So I can feel for you girl. I want to renovate the house but am oh so scared to  have to move everything from one room to another to get it done. We have a SMALL cape cod house with enough stuff in it for a MANSION so you can see where I am coming from.

I love your stories keep them coming…oh I love your projects for inspiration but so love to hear your stories!!!

….and STARBUCKS….listen she needs her fix so build a new one close to home for her! LOL

  13. I laughed reading about the Starbucks but I really smiled when you listed the Buckle as your #1 for shopping!  The Buckle was started in a town about an hour away from me (Kearney, NE).  Hang in there and before you know it your house will be just right.  Can't wait to see the home tour!!
