It’s Not Just for Lovers!

It’s Not Just for Lovers!

I can definitely say that I did not make enough Valentines this year for my lovely friends and family.  Normally this is a holiday I am all over.  I didn’t even get to make my Prince the mass of cards I normally do.

Here is the thing… this always gets me thinking.   Valentines is all about love.  I *love* 365 days of the year.  Why do I have the mindset that I can only send love cards on one specific day of the year?

We need to think bigger than that and let’s be honest here friends… our world can use a WHOLE lot more love spreading around.  Truth?

I pulled out my Bloomin’ Love stamp set and decided to make it NOT so “Valentines” but still all about the love.

Lovers, Love, Bloomin' Love, Stampin' Up!

I kept the colors for this card nice and bright.  Filled with love and sunshine.

Create It!

I started this card by stamping the flowers using Old Olive, Daffodil Delight and Bermuda Bay.  Three colors I’m very much drawn too lately.

I created a textured background on the Bermuda Bay cardstock using the Lovely Lace embossing folder.

Lovers, Love, Bloomin' Love, Stampin' Up!

My favorite part of this card is the tiny doily sticking out at the top right of the card.  Do you see it?

Another addition to this card was the tiny pearls.  You can see them near the flowers as I scattered them randomly around them.

Lovers, Love, Bloomin' Love, Stampin' Up!

This goes to show you that the Bloomin’ Love stamp set is not just for lovers day.

I’ll be sending to a friend to brighten her day.  Spreading a little more love is something we should do more.  Not just for birthdays…. but for the everyday.

Love.  Every. Day.

Be still my HEART!

Going Global – Inspiration

Going Global – Inspiration

Happy Saturday! I’m bringing inspiration to you today using the Going Global stamp set.

This entire suite is versatile for any occasion throughout the year.

Going Global, Stampin' Up!

The greetings in this set was the eye catcher for me and the perfect coordination with the images.  Let’s take a peek at these pretty samples.

Going Global, Stampin' Up!

I don’t know about you but most of my friends live a LONG distant from me.  Probably why this greeting was perfection in my eyes.  I love the encouragement it would send to my friends via happy mail.

The 2″ Circle Punch coordinates beautifully with the compass.  It can also be used with the globe image.

The Sweetheart punch (our heart punch) also coordinates perfectly.

Notice that each of the cards use the World Traveler Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.  This folder not only coordinates perfectly for this set but would also be great to use with the following stamp sets:

Lastly, the Going Places Designer Series Paper Stack has 48 sheets: 4 each of 12 designs all 6 x 6 in size.  A few of the sheets have the very trendy “marbled” look that I’ve noticed in big box stores on stationary and party essentials.  I always love to see trends like this come into play with my crafting.
Here are a few more samples from the catalog that I just LOVE.

I used the Sweetheart Punch to create my Hearts using Smoky Slate and then attached another Sweetheart punch using the Silver Fancy Vellum over the Smoky Slate.

The Vellum created a softer look and I love the silver hearts on the Vellum.

Can You Find Happiness?

I think that everywhere we look we can find happiness in something.  Don’t you?

I say this because even in my darkest of times I still found joy in small things. When I mean small… I mean like really small.  Somedays just getting out of the bed was joy.

I bring this up because I think we tend to focus on to much of the negative and not enough of the positive. Plus, my card inspired the emotions.

Tonight at dinner (9 pm mind you) we finally had the chance to sit at the dinner table together. Our lives with these teenagers keeps the pace on a level that I don’t particularly like but I know it’s a season.

Casual conversation was happening and then all of a sudden we were a family of 4 arguing about the stupidest things.

I continued to eat as the others decided to argue.  Just as casual as the conversation had been I looked up at my family and asked a simple question.

“Does this bring you joy?”

You could of heard a pin drop.

Faces of my children are now long and they could see mom was quite annoyed but I repeated, “Does this bring you joy?”

I proceeded to tell my kids and husband that during dinner it was the one time I had each of them captive to sit and enjoy each other.  Time to ask the little things about the day and how it went.  Arguing was not joyful and despite their better judgement I was sure it was not bringing them joy but tension instead.

In that moment I asked another question. “What brings YOU joy?”

Our conversation changed around the table tonight as we talked about this and the dialogue between the kids and Russ and I turned from ugly to a bit more enjoyable.  This isn’t always the case but I will tell you I was firm in my decision that at my dinner table we would speak kindly and find joy in the small things.

I don’t know where most of you are in your family life but I can bet you have been in this “mama” position I was in tonight.  I will say that raising teenagers is definitely been trying on most days, but I think we are going to survive.

I think.

My Joy

While raising my kids is joyful (let’s be real… they are hormonal teenagers) my joy comes from creating.  I love seeing how people react to something handmade.  It’s happiness for me.

Today I am sharing a little Valentine for my prince.  This is when I love to shower him with tons of cards leading up to Valentines day.  In short it’s my way of showing my love and guilting him a bit.  (just keeping it real!)

It’s also a TGIF Challenge so you can play along too!!

Happiness, Project Life, Stampin' Up!

I decided to pull out my Project Life stash to create this card.  I was so surprised how quickly this came together.

Remember this- if you are in a pinch and need a card, pull out your Project Life stash.

Memories in the Making- Project Life

Happiness, Project Life, Stampin' Up!

I pulled out my latest addition to my Project Life stash- Memories in the Making.  I used the Accessories kit on page 43 of the Occasions Catalog and the Specialty Card Collection that is FREE in the Sale-a-Bration catalog with every $50 order.  See page 8.

Tips & Tricks

I started this card with the Whisper White Thick cardstock.  I love using the thick cardstock for my card bases.

My greeting came from the Accessory Pack and was a 2 x 2 Project Life card.  I simply punched the card using my 1-3/4″ Circle punch.  The Gold Acetate card was die cut using the Circles Framelits.  The acetate is a little too thick for your punch.

The elements were adhered onto the Project Life card and then I added a Basic Black matte to the back of the card to give it a pop of color.

The sweet enamel shapes were a simple addition to also give a pop of color.

Happiness, Project Life, Stampin' Up!

I wanted quick and simple today and that’s exactly what I created.  In the process, I created happiness for myself knowing that my special someone, my Prince will enjoy it.  He really is my HAPPY.

I hope this encourages you in a few ways today.  First, find joy in the small things even when times are tough and you are struggling.  Second, pull out your Project Life stash if you have it.  Use it to capture those memories or make a quick card.  Either way, enjoy the process and find happiness.

Valentines + Fringe= Love

Valentines + Ornament + Fringe= Love

You know that moment when you have an idea and you get so excited you don’t know where to start? This project fits that description to a tee.

Cathy and I have always created fun Valentines ornaments but this time we were a bit stumped.  I had purchased a ton of these cute bubble ornaments to create something during Christmas but completely ran out of time.  Can you relate?

We decided to put them to use.  The fun part about this project was having not only Cathy here creating but my mom as well.  It was a collaborative effort of 3 brains.  That’s a whole lotta creative power right there! WOWSA!

Gather Your Supplies & Create It!

Valentines Ornament, You Plus Me stamp set, Valentines

When creating this little valentine ornament keep in mind there are tons of possibilities to make it happen.

A Few Products Needed:
Bubble Ornament- found at your local craft store.
2 Tea Lace Doilies
Coaster Board
Whisper White Cardstock
Natural or White Filter Paper
Hot Glue Gun

You will see other products in the product list below.

Getting Started
To start you will need Coaster Board, 2 Doilies and Filter Paper.  These products can be found in my online store HERE.

Measure your bubble ornament back to see what size circle you will need to die cut your coaster board.  I used the Circle Framelits from Stampin’ Up! and it cut through the coaster board beautifully.  You will also need the same size circle from a piece of Whisper White cardstock.

I stamped my images using the You Plus Me stamp set and Pink Pirouette Classic Ink.  You will notice just a PoP of Gold on the heart image.  I loved how this stands out.

The cute little house is from Papertrey Ink.  Cathy had this die and it was a gem to use inside our ornament.  Once it was die cut we used VersaMark and Iridescent Ice on the house and heat embossed it.  You could also create stacked hearts, or create a little house all on your own.  Endless possibilities.

The very fine detail was using a little bit of wire and having it come out the chimney with a heart attached.  The Confetti Heart Border Punch was perfect for creating the confetti inside the bubble as well as using one of them to attach to the wire.  We also added fun sequins for a little extra shaker power.

Valentines Ornament, You Plus Me stamp set, Valentines
To keep all the pretties inside the ornament we sealed the back of the ornament using Coaster Board.  I simply used my Circle Framelits and measured the back of the Ornament to create the exact size in the coaster board.  Hot glue is perfect to attach the coaster board to the ornament.  I also added a Tea Lace Doily.

My favorite part was adding the fringe.  You will need the Fringe Scissors (really a must have) to create this awesome look.  Simply take a piece of filter paper and cut at 3 x 12.  Fold this in half.  Now Fringe the open end of the Filter Paper.  You will wrap around the back of the ornament using Sticky Strip or Hot glue to keep in place.  To make the fringe thicker and more fluffy, add another layer of fringe.  You won’t be disappointed.

You can see in the photo above that once the Fringe is added you will put another Tea Lace Doily and Coaster Board over the Fringe.  This will complete the project.

Don’t forget the little Valentine banner.  It’s created with my new favorite stampin’ tool.  The Alphabet Rotary Stamp! Remember, I used it on my card in yesterday’s post to spell “Coffee.”  See it HERE.

Valentines Ornament, You Plus Me stamp set, Valentines
You might be asking…. What is the pretty gold threads you are seeing coming from the fringe???

It’s a tedious job but a fun one.  Those little Gold threads were taken from Gold ribbon.  We peeled that ribbon apart to the bare bones and once we had the Gold threads we curled them a bit with snips like you would to ribbon on a package.  SO FUN!!

Are you ready to create your own Valentine Ornament?
