Little Things that Make me Happy!

Little Things that Make me Happy!

Sometimes it’s the little things that make me the happiest.

Today started off a bit out of the normal.  We had to get up early and the kids had dentist appointments at the crack of dawn (8 am is the crack of dawn for me)!

If you didn’t know this, I’m not an early riser.  I’m lucky enough to have second shift this year, meaning I get up with the girly girl and see her off to school.  We actually get to sleep in a little later than the boys.  It’s great because it works well with my night owl tendencies.

This morning however we were all up together sporting our happy faces.  Once the appointments were finished it was off to get the kids to their schools.  Brandon has a bit of a commute everyday to get to his school so we had a nice ride together.  Well, sort of.  He was very testy this morning and I thought maybe he had gotten up on the wrong side of the bed.  Then I remembered he is a teenager and at times he is an alien.

Coffee Please???

Once I dropped him off I came home to sit quietly and enjoy a LARGE cup of coffee and peace and quiet.  It wasn’t 15 minutes after being home I received a text from Brandon.  Normally I would be all kind of “mom crazy” with him for texting during school but this text made my heart swell with pride because my alien teenager turned back into his amazing loving self.

It was something so little that he said but it meant so much.  “I’m sorry, mom!”

This is huge my friends.  The fact that he realized he had made a few bad choices this morning was AMAZING.  I’m not going to lie,  I thought for a second that someone had grabbed his phone and started texting.  It happened once.  It wasn’t pretty.  True story.

It was him.  He apologized and I had a moment of being a proud mom.  I’m pretty amazed how teenagers can have the sweetest disposition one minute and turn bat crazy the next.  It’s really an adventure. For those few minutes I relished in the fact that he recognized he was not being kind. He truly apologized and the day would be better. It was MUCH better.

It’s the little things.

This idea, little things…  carries over into my crafting.  It’s the little things that bring me joy.  A simple little embellishment or a certain color I’ve used can make me so giddy.  Today the little thing is actually a BIG thing when it comes to crafting.  I like what I created and feel like a glimmer of my creative mojo is coming back.  That’s HUGE friends.  HUGE.

Friendly Wishes

Little Things, Friendly Wishes, Stampin' Up!

Once again I’m pulling out designer paper and using it.  I am a hoarder by nature and it’s got to be USED.  I made quite a few of these cards because they were so simple and easy to put together. Plus, I love the color combination.

Little Things, Friendly Wishes, Stampin' Up!

The best part of this card for me was adding the black cardstock.  I think it made all of the colors really pop.  The focal point (the greeting) came from the stamp set Friendly Wishes.  This is a great stamp set for friendship/relationship cards.  You can send a whole lotta love with this set.  You can see it on page 122 of the Main Catalog.

Favorite Elements

A few of my favorite elements of this card

  • Wildflower Fields Designer Series Paper #141022.  This is a FREE product when you spend $50.  If you love flowers, you will love this paper. What I love about the paper is the colors. The colors really pop and it’s very SPRING.
  • A simple piece of Delightful Dijon 1″ Dotted Lace Trim was a perfect match and simple addition to this card.
  • It’s My Party Enamel Dots #140554- another bright pop of color.
  • My favorite little scallop border from the Cutie Pie Thinlits # 138273

Lastly, this color combination was totally created using the colors from the designer paper.

Starting Fresh Again- It’s a Challenge!

Starting Fresh Again- It’s a Challenge!

If I could restart the month of March, I would.  The old story of March coming in like a lion has held 100% true for me.

From the beginning of the month it’s been a challenge and one I would like to personally erase or at least try to stand tall and MOVE forward.

Russ and I always say it’s the little things that add up.  We typically keep this quote to financial situations but I believe this month it holds true to life situations.  From helping our friends with the tornado disaster and then getting really sick.  EEK.

Every little thing added up this month and kept setting me back.  Nothing that I can’t spring back from, but enough that you can get so overwhelmed with your own “to do” list it paralyzes you.  In my case when this happens, I get nothing done except talking about the things that need to be done.  Anyone relate?

I guess as I get older recovering from life’s hiccups are harder for me to deal with.  It’s the reality and it’s a big struggle.

Creating Again

I told my family this past weekend that I needed to close my stamp room and hibernate inside for little while.  I had a massive amount of deadlines that needed to be completed and wasn’t sure exactly where to start.

I started with the most important thing- coffee.  My brain needed to fire off at a high rate of speed….

I have felt like I’ve had a creative block since November when they read my name for the Artisan Award.  I’m not kidding.  It’s like they said…. “Hey Kimberly! We like your work, but here is the real challenge…. can you keep it up?”

I’d like to answer that with a quick…. “Umm. NO!”  Every bit of creative mojo I had has taken a sabbatical.  Gone. Bye bye.  What happened to all of my ideas?? Where are you??? Hello Mojo…. please come BACK.

This has happened before and I’ve even discussed this creative block here before. The key is finding the mojo….

Finding Your Creative Mojo

Sometimes when I’m trying to find my creative mojo again I actually copy myself, or put a bunch of products on my desk that I want to use and see where it all ends up.  I did a little bit of both for today’s card.

It is no surprise that I have a ton of Designer Paper waiting to be used.  One of the patterns I have loved but haven’t used much is the Farmers Market DSP.  Adorable paper, yet so challenging for me.

When I opened my cabinet with all of my stamps I was drawn to one of our hostess sets called Silhouettes & Script. I loved the pear image and I also loved the pear image in the Farmers Market DSP.

Challenge, Silhouettes & Script, Stampin' Up!

I wanted to keep the card a little more “Farmers Market” so I went with a few more rustic colors that I pulled from the Designer Paper.

Challenge, Silhouettes & Script, Stampin' Up!

One of the great stress relievers when making this card was pulling the strings on the Burlap Ribbon to make it more “tattered” looking.  I love how the ribbon and corrugated cardstock came together and it reminded me of a basket of fruit.

Challenge, Silhouettes & Script, Stampin' Up!

I added the Vellum to the card as a paper layer only because I love Vellum and the soft look it provides.

Challenge, Silhouettes & Script, Stampin' Up!

To create the different colors on the pear image I used a sponge dauber to apply the ink.  This was perfect to add the Old Olive ink around the pear.  I also used another stamp set, Timeless Textures for a few more rustic elements to the card and lastly sponged Tip Top Taupe around the edges very lightly.

I kept things very simple but I love how the images all came together.

Challenge Yourself

Sometimes we need to challenge ourselves to get out of our creative funk.  While this technique doesn’t always work for me, I can also grab a few other resources like my own card stash or a few looks on Pinterest to bring things together.  I’m still looking for my full on creative mojo.  I believe the one thing that helped this weekend was to let go and create.  Giving myself that freedom felt good and I made a card for a sweet couple.  No clue who that couple is, but I’m ready when I find them.

Thank you for the get well wishes.  I can’t tell you how much I appreciated them and the prayers.  I felt your love as I sat quietly and peacefully on my couch.  I don’t know exactly what I had but I do know it zapped every bit of energy this girl had and I’m still not 100%!  That’s crazy.

XOXOXOXO

Birthday Blitz

Birthday Blitz

It’s time for a birthday blitz which means Kimberly needed to get cracking on making some birthday cards.

Ya’ll, I’m on FIYAH with the birthday cards.  The only bad thing is I have not one single birthday card in my stash.  H E L L O….  we have a problem.

Tonight I designed a card and started the mass production line and I’m SUPER excited to tell you I had these done in 1 hour and 30 minutes.  8 cards.  Done.

Gift from the Garden

Birthday Blitz, Gift from the Garden, Stampin' Up!

I went a little overboard with the stamp sets I used.  I couldn’t keep it to one.  I ended up using three.   The main set I used was the Gift From the Garden.  What a cute set this is and it’s been sitting on my shelf dying to be used.

Gift from the Garden, Stampin' Up! Demonstrator

The rain boots are adorable and I love the greetings.

Birthday Blitz, Gift from the Garden, Stampin' Up!

I used one of the free Sale-a-Bration products Wildflower Fields Designer Paper.  You can receive this free with a qualifying order of $50.  This is beautiful paper with lots of great designs.

This is the one I used for this project-

Wildflower Fields DSP, Sale-a-Bration, Stampin' Up!

I also used the Timeless Textures stamp set (BEST STAMP SET EVER) to add texture on the Whisper White cardstock where the boots would hang over.  While you can barely see it, I still love it.  Of course any bit of texture on a card and I’m swooning over it.

Birthday Blitz, Gift from the Garden, Stampin' Up!

I also used the Handpicked Framelits which have “gardening” written all over them.  I die cut these tags using Basic Black cardstock and then used the Sprinkles of Life stamp set for the Happy Birthday image.  It fit perfectly.  I layered the Handpicked framelits to add a bit more flare.  I probably could have saved my arm muscles and placed only one but I really like how it came out.

Did You Know?

Did you know that the Sprinkles of Life stamp set is our exclusive Ronald McDonald House stamp set? Oh it’s darling and here is the BEST part- for every set purchased, Stampin’ Up! donates $3 to the Ronald McDonald House Charities.  YES!  Isn’t that amazing? This set has a ton of versatility.  Ice cream cones, cupcakes, clouds, trees… and lets not forget the cutest bird too.

Sprinkles of Life stamp set, Stampin' Up!

I couldn’t help but add some fun ribbon to my birthday card.  I loved the burlap ribbon for this card because it went well with the gardening theme.

Lastly, I embellished the card using the It’s My Party Enamel Dots and the White Perfect Accents.

5 Stamps Every Stamper Should Own

5 Stamps Every Stamper Should Own

Stamps? Just 5 you say Kimberly?

Well, I could give you a list of 500 because I’m sure that’s the amount that my stamp room has seen over the years- or more….

I want to keep the list to 5 stamp sets because I’m narrowing it down to the new Occasions catalog.

Now this wasn’t easy but it’s a question I get asked a TON.  What would I choose if I could only choose 5 stamps and why? I’ve linked a sample that’s been created with all of them but one.

My Top 5 Stamps and Why!

  1. Enjoy the Little Things (Page 33)  This stamp set not only has fun greetings that are great for any occasion card, it also has sweet small images that are perfect for simple cards.  The two border stamps are perfect for stamping on your cards as well as the envelope.  This also coordinates with a Project Kit that anyone could enjoy.  It’s my Top favorite and perfect if you are a brand new stamper. I have created a card below that you can see as well as this card HERE.
  2. Rose Wonder (Page 18)  If you are looking for versatility, look no further.  This stamp set covers marriage, sympathy, birthday, thank you, blessings and even a scripture verse. This one stamp set is perfection for any project or card.  The gorgeous rose, leaf and small flower can be stamped simply for a new stamper or stepped up for the advanced stamper. Think about watercoloring, paper piecing, glitter, embossing.  This set would be beautiful with anything done to it.  With the matching Rose Garden Thinlits Dies this makes your crafting easier as you will not have to fussy cut anything.  SCORE!  Here is a card I created using this set HERE.
  3. Number of Years (Page 11) Stampers or scrapbookers will love this set for paper crafting.  No more searching for the numbers you need for a birthday card.  They are right at your finger tips and have the matching framelits-Large Numbers Framelits Dies.  This set covers birthdays, Anniversaries, and even has a few flowers in the mix.  It’s also perfect for keeping your memories alive for children grade school years captured.  This is definitely versatile and practical for the amount of use you can get out of it.  I see teacher projects and many birthday cards created with this stamp set.
  4. Balloon Celebration (Page 12) I chose this stamp set not only for the fun balloons but one of the greetings captured my heart, “Come, Let us sit together and drink”.  Along with this comes Coffee, Hot Chocolate, Champagne greetings.  Why do I love this? It’s about gathering people together.  Enjoying the fellowship of others.  THIS I love.  Have you ever wanted to gather new friends but wasn’t sure how? This is a perfect stamp set to create an invite.  The bonus is the stars, clouds, balloons.  There is a lot of life to this set and one you can use for a long time.  Here is a card I created using this set HERE.
  5. Timeless Textures (Page 29) You’ve heard of love at first sight, right? That happened when I laid eyes on this set. I always look at a stamp set and ask how many projects can I see myself creating with it.  The answer for this one is ENDLESS.  I could possibly use this stamp set on every project I create.  It’s perfect for texture to a card, the splatter stamp is just the perfect size and the coffee stain image is PERFECTION.  Here is a card I created using this set HERE and HERE.

These are just 5 of the stamps I think stampers should have in their stash from the Occasions catalog.  There are many more I could list but if you are a new stamper, or advanced stamper these would meet your needs.

Stamps, Enjoy the Little Things, Stampin' Up!

Enjoy the Little things is a gentle life reminder that I love.  I know I could use this card framed on my desk to remind me to enjoy the little things.  Life is short.

Stamps, Enjoy the Little Things, Stampin' Up!

My favorite embellishment on this card is the ribbon.  It’s been awhile since I used a lot of Seam Binding ribbon and one of the things I love about Seam Binding is how well it folds and ties a bow.  It’s very pliable making bow ties easy.

I held the ribbon in place using the Tombow Multipurpose Glue.

Tips & Tricks

Two staples with my Handheld Stapler keeps it all together.

The 1″ Square Punch is perfect to punch these small square images.  While the images are slightly larger, this was a quick no fuss way to no cutting.

Simple Note- Picture Perfect

Simple Note- Picture Perfect

Welcome to another Artisan Blog Hop.

Life is not picture perfect, right? There is one thing that can be and that’s being creative. While our projects may not be picture perfect in the eyes of others, it can be in our own.

The Picture Perfect stamp set was an instant eye catcher for me when I had seen the starfish.  I love starfish and being close the to the beach I am lucky enough to see them when I go to the beach.

Russ and I also have a fish tank full of starfish.  They are tiny little guys but they are so cute.  I couldn’t wait to stamp the starfish but I was perplexed as to what color to use.

I decided to do a google search and see what colors would come up.  I was blown away.  I had NO idea there were so many different colors of starfish.  Finding my colors for my project became really easy.  I could use almost any color.

Picture Perfect

Simple Note, Picture Perfect, Stampin' Up!

I decided to go with Blush Blossom and Calypso Coral.  Since this is a 2-Step stamp, I started by stamping the Blush Blossom onto Whisper White cardstock.  Once the image was lined up, I stamped over the first image using Calypso Coral.

Simple Note, Picture Perfect, Stampin' Up!

Wink of Stella Tip

To create a textured background I used the Timeless Textures stamp set.  To create the Gold splatter marks I used the Gold Wink of Stella Pen.

I simple brushed over the image with the pen and then stamped.  I loved how this turned out.

Other Tips & Tricks

To add layers to this card I used a Tea Lace Doily, and the Blush Blossom ribbon from the Love Blossoms Embellishment Kit.

To keep things in place I decided to give it a quick stitch across the starfish, ribbon and doily and the first layer of cardstock.

I get many questions about stitching on cards.  I use to have a designated smaller sewing machine that I used always for cards but that machine petered out recently.  I started using my regular sewing machine which is a Singer.  I’ve never had any problems, so far.  Hopefully I’m not jinxing myself.

Another addition to this card I fell in love with are the tiny Acrylic Dots.  These can also be found in the Love Blossoms Embellishment Kit.  I love the color of these dots as well as the size.

There are other beautiful images in this stamp set:
