New Trick Using the Silhouette Cameo

New Trick Using the Silhouette Cameo

While this may be old news to others, I have a new found trick with the Silhouette Cameo that made me squeal with happiness.

Today I’m going to share my new trick and it’s part of the Add a Little Dazzle Challenge #27.

Our inspiration photo today was this beautiful Rainbow Rose below.  You can use any color in the photo or if you’re like me, I thought they were all pretty so I decided to make a Rainbow card.

Silhouette Cameo using Metal Sheets

First, using all of these colors is WAY WAY outside of my comfort zone.  I almost needed sunglasses to make it. They are BRIGHT. That said, once the card was created, I loved it.

Using the Silhouette with Metal Sheets

When you are using your Silhouette Cameo with materials other than cardstock you will have to adjust the settings so that the blade depth is far enough to cut the material you are using.  This is also true for the speed and thickness setting as well.

Most of the time I use the standard cut settings that Silhouette provides on my Cameo and only adjust my blade setting accordingly.  When using the Metal Sheets from Add a Little Dazzle I set my blade depth between 8-9. One cloud cut perfectly at 8 and the smaller one cut perfectly at 9.

Before you actually make the cut I would recommend a test cut.  By test cutting this will make a small square cut on your material to see if your settings are correct and that it will cut.

I placed my metal sheet on my cutting mat just as I would my cardstock and then changed my speed to 8 and thickness to 12.

The clouds are an SVG file from My Digital Studio.  It’s one of the many favorite things I love about the My Digital Studio software from Stampin’ Up! If you are unsure how to export or import your SVG file from My Digital Studio to your Silhouette, click HERE to view a video I created.

Once the Silhouette has completed the cut carefully pull your metal sheet from the cutting mat.  Then I embossed my metal using the Chevron Embossing Folder in my Big Shot.

My Digital Studio, Silhouette Cameo

To create the rest of the card I used a rainbow of colors and two new Stampin’ Up! In Colors- Blackberry Bliss and Tangelo Twist on the Natural Composition Specialty paper.  LOVE this Natural paper.  It’s embossed already so this made Emboss Resisting EASY PEASY using a sponge and ink.

I stamped the greeting using Perfect Pennants stamp set using the Tangelo Twist ink pad.  I did a quick stitch at the top of the greeting using my sewing machine and added a tiny piece of doily to the side.  Once I punched my stars the card was complete.

You can see all the supplies I used below for this card.  If you are up for a fun challenge, head over to Add a Little Dazzle and play along or just be inspired by other artists.

Oh The Possibilities-Silhouette Cameo

Can you hear me yelling…..”Oh the possibilities- Silhouette Cameo!

Well, I am yelling.  Yes!  I am sitting at my desk doing a little happy dance in my seat because the possibilities are endless with the Silhouette Cameo.

I’m going to share a fun, SIMPLE card that I created and it’s one that you could duplicate QUICKLY.  Isn’t that what we need from time to time, cards that are QUICK to put together? I’ll also share tips on using your Silhouette Cameo with Stampin’ Up! products.

Oh the Possibilities Silhouette Cameo, Stampin' Up!,

When I started to create this card I knew the design I wanted to try but wasn’t sure which stamp set to use.  Then I thought why not use my Silhouette and one of my word cuts.  Simple and clean but a little touch of vintage fun.

I asked the question yesterday on my Facebook Fan page on how many owned an e-Cutter.  Many, many do but the interesting thing I found was many that own their e-Cutter are scared to death to open and put it to work.

Let me be right up front and tell you that was ME!! Yes!  Mine was a gift from the Prince Christmas 2012.  I pulled that puppy out the first day, made a butterfly cut that took me hours to figure out and then put it back in the box where it sat for three months.  I’m telling you this because I don’t want  YOU to do the same thing.  Once I kicked FEAR in the pants and took that baby back out there has been NO looking back.  What an amazing tool this is.

First, learn to use it.  When I opened it I whizzed over the directions and thought I could figure it out.  NOT so!  That’s why it went back in the box.  You maybe wondering, what are the possibilities Kimberly?

Connect that Silhouette!

Here are a few of the possibilities that you can create with your Silhouette!

  • My Digital Studio and the Silhouette work BEAUTIFULLY together.  Make sure you upgrade your Silhouette Software to the Designer Edition
  • The Designer Edition software gives you the abilities to cut Stampin’ Up! artwork using My Digital Studio SVG files.
  • Our Punches in My Digital Studio are SVG files.  Many of our punches in My Digital Studio are just like our paper crafting die cuts and framelits.  This means you can change the sizes of these dies even more so than the paper crafting dies.  *WOWSER*
  • There are TONS of FREE artwork found on the internet that you can download into your Silhouette and cut.  I love this because it gives me more ideas to use for my kids.  For instance a gymnastics party…. if I don’t have a gymnast stamp brush in My Digital Studio I can find one on the internet.  This makes Alexis SO happy!  Once I make the cut, I can create the rest of the project using my Stampin’ Up! paper crafting products.

Tips Using Your Silhouette

  • We all know how amazing Stampin’ Up! cardstock is.  When using your Silhouette Cameo to cut our cardstock, bump up your cutting blade by one number.  This could be different for everyone but I found by bumping it up one I had a beautiful clean cut.
  • One of my favorite things to do is export an SVG from My Digital Studio to cut.  Once I’ve created that file I keep in a folder on my computer so I can re-create it again quickly.
  • Make sure you keep the cover on your cutting mat when not in use.  The mat should last you a good while.  It will last longer if you keep the cover over it so dust particles do not get on it.
  • Experiment cutting files using scraps of paper.  This is a GREAT way to use up those scraps you have lying around.
  • Look on Pinterest for ENDLESS ideas using the Silhouette Cameo.
  • JUST DO IT!

Create It!

When creating this card below I used Stampin’ Up!’s Fancy Foil Designer Vellum. Man I love this stuff and how elegant it looks.  I love the Gold accent.  It’s a must have fav of mine.

Once I had this card embellished, I did a small stitch at the top right of the Designer Paper and Fancy Foil to keep the two pieces together.

When attaching to the Whisper White cardstock I placed dimensionals under the Gold circles on the Fancy Foil Designer Vellum.  They do not show through so it worked perfect.

You can click the links below to see all of the products I used for this card.

I can’t wait to hear about all of your fun creative uses when using your e-Cutter.  Join me on my Facebook Fan page as we help support each other to use our machines and be creative- Oh the possibilities!

Around the World We Go!

Around the world we go, would you like to join me?  Okay, maybe we can stay state side… but I am going on a little trip and I’m excited.

Stampin’ Up! is holding a Catalog Premiere the end of April all around the United States for Demonstrators.  When the announcement happened I was a little giddy.  We would be the first to see the NEW catalog and receive GOODIES.

I scrambled to see the list of cities and the closest to my city was Birmingham, Al.  I had to sit and give this thought.  It would be the first time I was leaving the Prince since the stroke.  Russ and I chatted about it and he is doing so great.  I think it could happen.

Next I called my mom who is also a demonstrator.  I said, “Wanna go on a little road trip?”  When she said she’s in I immediately thought of Thelma and Louise.  This could be interesting.  Now I’m giddy and April 28th is going to be a F.U.N day.

Believe it or not… YOU could join us.  I’ll talk about that at the end of the post.

Let’s chat about my Around the World We Go card…

I’m still on a mission to pull stamp sets that haven’t been used and Designer Series Paper that I am hoarding.  YES, hoarding.

Around the World, Wanderlust, Silhouette Cameo

Create it!!

Tips to create this card:

  • I started this card by getting all of my elements together first.  Cutting the suitcases, die cutting the Starburst and cutting the “fun” with my Silhouette Cameo.
  • You will see small strips of DSP and ribbon added first.  I like to keep strips of DSP to 3/4″ or smaller except for the final strip which I layered all the elements onto.  This strip is 1″.
  • The word FUN was cut using my Silhouette Cameo. Oh how I love that.
  • All elements are layered on a larger Starburst die cut.
  • The “Splatter” was created using a stamp from Paper Pumpkin.  If you love EXCLUSIVE stamp images, I encourage you to sign up for Paper Pumpkin.  I use these images all the time for my stamping projects.
  • The Sale-a-Bration Sweet Sorbet Accessory Kit with the THREE colors of thread is a must have.  First, the coordinate with our colors.  Second, you can do many fun things using the thread.  Here I only used TWO strands.  I wrapped it in a circle many times and then stuck behind all of my elements.  I love this small detail.

You can view all the supplies at the end of the post.  Click on the links and you can purchase directly in my Online Store.  The Clearance Rack has some great finds for 80% OFF.  Yikes.  Check it out.

St. Patty’s Day Banner

Happy day paper crafters.  Today I have a project I’m excited to share – a fun St. Patty’s Day Banner!

I have a fun place in my foyer that I love to decorate for the different seasons and noticed that my St. Patty’s Day decor was a little blah.  Isn’t it great when we can create our own?

You will notice that I’ve used all kinds of products on this St. Patty’s banner.  I’ll have a full list of the supplies I’ve  used at the bottom of this post.  The biggest triumph I had while making this was just adding the layers and more layers.  Grab your GLUE GUN… it’s going to make your life even sweeter.  Let’s get started!

St. Patty's Day Banner, St. Patricks Day, Stampin' Up!

As you can see it’s just 4 simple panels.  I started with pre-made burlap pieces I found at a local craft store.  These are pretty small panels,  just 2.5 x 3.5.

St. Patty's Day Banner, St. Patricks Day, Stampin' Up!

After spending a good hour looking for a St. Patty’s day stamp set I finally came to the conclusion I was going to have to jump into My Digital Studio for a little help.  Remember, My Digital Studio is NOT just for scrapbookers.  The gazillion images in the program CAN be printed.  Even better you can export the SVG image from My Digital Studio and import into your e-Cutter.  I wanted some shamrocks.  Oh boy did I get them.  I had plenty of images to choose from in My Digital Studio.  This shamrock came from the Luck O’ The Irish download.  Luck 'O The Irish, My Digital Studio, MDS, Stampin' Up!

I cut my shamrocks in all different sizes using Wild Wasabi cardstock.  I also decided to get crazy and used a vintage map I bought awhile back and cut a shamrock from that as well.  I loved that little added vintage look.

St. Patty's Day Banner, St. Patricks Day, Stampin' Up!

Now each burlap panel had a piece of the Fancy Foil Designer Vellum over it.  To keep this in place I added a few dollops from my hot glue gun.  You want to pay attention that the glue will not be seen so if I could strategically place the glue under a gold pokie dot it was perfect. You can barely see my arrow peeking out at the bottom but this was easy peasy using my On Film Framelit Dies and the Gold Foil paper.

St. Patty's Day Banner, St. Patricks Day, Stampin' Up!, Paper Pumpkin

Using Wild Wasabi ink I stamped all of my shamrocks using images from an older Paper Pumpkin and the newest paper pumpkin for February.  OH BOY I love when I get more milage on a stamp set.  I also used the World Map Background stamp set on the BIG shamrock.  Perfect match to go with my vintage map shamrocks.  YIPPIE!!!

Now is when I get a little GIDDY about the itty bitty banner at the top of this panel.  I used our Sale a Bration BANNER punch.  (ummm… FREE with $50 purchase—-> Just saying’)

Remember me telling you about  my cool vintage music sheets I found awhile back?  I decided to use them for the itty bitty banner at the top along with our Gold Foil Sheet.  Oh my GEE!  It’s super cutely.  I attached this using my glue gun at the top of the Designer Vellum.  It’s not going anywhere.  Love that!!  I can’t forget my little wooden Mr & Mrs. Van Deep in Troubles.  These little wooden pieces make my heart beat faster.  I want MORE of them.  They were included in a Paper Pumpkin kit a few months back and I have a tight grip on my extra ones that were in my kit.

You may be wondering where all that Gold Splatter is coming from? Well…. I hoarded a few bottles of the Smooch Pearlized Accent Ink that we use to sell.  I LOVE this stuff and with gold being SO trendy I can’t help but use it all the time.   You may even notice I gently placed a little bit of the Gold Smooch around the shamrocks.  Sometimes it’s great to be a craft hoarder. Do you have a coveted product that we no longer sell that you keep right next to you? I would love to hear what it is.

St. Patty's Day Banner, St. Patricks Day, Stampin' Up!

This next panel was all about layering fun things.  Starting with the Designer Vellum and adding a doily.  I used my Subtles Color Collection Designer Series Pack (Pear Pizzaz) and created a banner using my Hexagon punch.

I love the Essentials Wooden Elements and that you can alter them to suit your needs.  I simply stamped the image using the Hip Notes stamp set using Wild Wasabi ink.

St. Patty's Day Banner, St. Patricks Day, Stampin' Up!

This last panel I used my Designer Paper again and added a coil of the beautiful Gold Bakers Twine.  To get this coil the way I wanted it… (THAT NEVER HAPPENED) I used my glue gun.  I’m not sure how some crafters get that coil to look so pretty.  I’m going to practice more.  The canvas heart comes from the Heartfelt Banner Kit from that you can get FREE with a $50 purchase.  It’s another one of our fun Sale-a-Bration items.

St. Patty's Day Banner, St. Patricks Day, Stampin' Up!

There you have it.  A small little St. Patty’s Day banner to brighten my foyer area hanging from a vintage frame.  I love how it turned out and it was not an all day project.  I just kept layering fun things.

Also, I’m still creating a few more things for St. Patty’s Day and to add to my foyer display.  I found these great celtic fonts  below on Pinterest.  Click the picture and start creating with these.

Hello, Sailor

When the new Occasions Mini came out this year I was smitten with the Hello, Sailor stamp set.  Besides, I have a sailor so I thought this set would be perfect to create  little love notes.   Hello Sailor, Stampin' Up!

Once again this stamp set has sat on my desk waiting to be used.  I thought I would also give you an update on how the sailor is doing as well.

Hello Sailor, Stampin Up!

I used many of my favorites on this card.

My first favorite was my Silhouette.  I created the stars by exporting a star punch from My Digital Studio and importing to my Silhouette.  The stars were cut from the High Tide Designer Series Paper.  LOVE this paper with it’s awesome designs.

You can find all the supplies I used for this card below.

Time for an update on the Prince and my sweet sailor.  *deep breath*

To be honest, there has not been much of a change in the recent weeks.  The progress we see on a day to day basis is more strength related than anything else.  This makes his spirit a little down.  Russ has really struggled over the last week especially. For a man that fixed everything and took care of “us”, he feels useless at home.  Of course we tell him all the time this too shall pass.  I’m sure he hears it but I can imagine it’s not what he wants to hear.

We are trying to find ways between therapy that he can be more helpful around the house.  Sometimes it does the opposite and frustrates him more because he realizes what he cannot do.  It’s a catch 22 for me.

We had a little chat about attitude this week.  The plumbing and dryer issue did not help his spirit/attitude at all.  Seeing me clean up the great flood in the bathroom just upset him.  We both know that this WILL get better but it’s going to take a lot of TIME.  I can’t beat him up for having a few bad days because Lord knows I’ve had my share.  When he has an attitude change I have to be up on my game and keep my attitude in check.  Together this is how we are dealing with it.

We are seeing a little progress in his right arm and hand.  The arm is what gives him more frustration than anything.  Getting those fingers to move and start picking up objects is BRUTAL!

We did get some good news at his last Dr. appointment.  His neurologist is going to try giving his arm Botox to relax the muscles and let his fingers relax more.  Right now his hand curls up because the muscles are so tense.  Of course when the Dr. said Botox I immediately perked up and asked the million dollar question… “will there be leftover Botox I can have?”  Just a little in my forehead would be fine.  A girl can ask, right?

We are awaiting approval from insurance to move forward with this.  I’ll keep you posted and you’ll know I was able to get the leftovers when I post selfies everyday.

Continue to pray for Russ, please.  Now that the plumbing is fixed (today anyways) and the dryer we can relax over the weekend.
