Shake & Celebrate Birthday

Shake & Celebrate Birthday

Its time to shake things up with a shaker birthday card.

I was looking through my stamps and noticed the Shake & Celebrate stamp set untouched.

The Shaker Shapes Framelits are on the closeout sale and make shaker cards simple to create.

Quick & Simple Birthday Card

I love creating shaker cards because they always create a WOW when received.

Shake & Celebrate, Stampin' Up!, Birthday

The Shake & Celebrate stamp set can create a beautiful birthday cake or even a fun Christmas tree.  Either image, the best part is the coordinating die cuts that create the window for the shaker.

Create It

  • I created a birthday cake by stamping the cake first using the Bermuda Bay Ombre’ Stampin’ Pad.  When using this pad ink  the images in small circles onto the pad and then stamp the image onto Whisper White cardstock.
  • Die cut the cake using the same size Whisper White as the image you stamped with the cake (3″ x 3-3/4″).
  • Attach a window sheet on the back of the die cut cardstock using Fast Fuse.
  • To create the shaker card, use the Foam Adhesive Strips directly onto the back of the window sheet.  I placed a strip along the entire outside of the cake, and along each pillar of the cake.  This way the shaker elements will stay in between each of the layers of cake.
  • Place the Gold Mica Flakes from the Mica Flakes Trio Pack over the sections created using the Foam Adhesive Strips and place the Whisper White cardstock with the stamped birthday cake onto the adhesive strips to finish the shaker card.
  • Place the shaker card onto the Pretty Paisleys Textured embossed cardstock (4″ x 5-1/2″).

  • Stamp the greeting onto Bermuda Bay cardstock (1/2″ x 4″) using Archival Basic Black ink.
  • Place the card front onto Bermuda Bay cardstock 4-1/8″ x 5-1/2 then onto a Whisper White cardstock base (4-1/4″ x 11).

Celebrating the New Year- Artisan Hop

Celebrating the New Year

There is so much to celebrate right now.  Tis the season of celebrating!

As the New Year approaches this means its also a time to celebrate the NEW Artisan team that is coming on board.

This will be the last blog post for our current team and it’s been such a fantastic year with this team.

It’s encouraging to me when you bring a team of artists together to share and spread inspiration from all over the world.  Our styles are different yet our purpose is always the same.  Sharing and inspiring you our readers using the best crafting products has been a JOY!

The Inspiration Never Ends

I have two New Years projects to share with you today.  Before I get started, I want to remind you that the inspiration from this team can continue to inspire you.  All of the projects we shared this past year are in one great album on Pinterest HERE.  Make sure to check it out and I’ll keep you posted on the new Pinterest board for this years team once it’s developed.

Now let’s celebrate the New Year with a fun stamp set called It’s a Celebration.

Celebrating, It's a Celebration, Stampin' Up!

This color combination makes me so happy.  I love it to use as a Winter color theme, or for Summer.  The Sweet Sugarplum is one of my favorite colors.  This is actually huge for me.  I’m not much of a girl who loves purple.  This color just has a beautiful hue and looks good with SO many other colors.

Celebrating, It's a Celebration, Stampin' Up!

Tips & Tricks

  • The greeting was embossed using Silver Stampin’ Emboss Powder.
  • Create the background using Pool Party, Smoky Slate, Rich Razzleberry and Sweet Sugarplum inks with the “sparkle” images in the stamp set.
  • Stitched Shapes Framelits were used to die cut the circles and then stacked upon each other slightly off set using dimensionals.

Shake Your Way Into the New Year

Celebrating, It's a Celebration, Stampin' Up!

I’ve had this card idea in my head for a while.

I can’t believe we are getting ready to ring in 2017.  Time is FLYING.

Celebrating, It's a Celebration, Stampin' Up!

Tips & Tricks

  • Line up and die cut the numbers using the Large Numbers Framelits.
  • The “sparkle” images were embossed using both silver and gold embossing powders.
  • Create a small shaker with the number zero using a window sheet and foam strips.  Fill with the Metallics Sequin Assortment.
  • Randomly attach more sequins on the card front.
  • Emboss the greeting using the Silver Stampin’ Emboss powder.

One thing we I hope we can all agree on is the amount of great sharing from the Artisan team.  The blog hops have been exceptional in my opinion and so inspirational for me.

Shaker Cards Bring Joy!

Shaker Cards Bring  Joy!

It doesn’t matter if you are 2 or 92, anyone that receives a shaker card gets joy out of shaking the card and hearing the razzle dazzle from the card.  Not only does it bring joy it creates happiness.

I tested my own theory on my kids.  They love when I make a card that moves, shakes and of course a card that holds green dollars with “certain” men on the front.  Not all men on those dollars create that excitement. Do you know what I mean?

Seriously, I was fiddling in my office when Alexis walked in and I had this card sitting on my desk.  She picks it up and immediately starts shaking it to death.  She grins and I’m only praying that the foam tape (dimensionals) that I have placed securely around the portion of this shaker is holding on tight and we don’t have a massive shower of metallic stars everywhere.   She created quite the shake on this card.  The real joy was the smile it created for her.

Think about it… It BRINGS joy!

Shaker Cards, Flurry of Wishes stamp set, Stampin' Up!

The true confession comes when I tell you I kinda cheated on this card.

I have the fun card kit in our Holiday Catalog called To You & Yours Shaker Cards and I’ve wanted to open it.  But I have a disease called hoarding….  and all of those sequins and chunky clear glitter that comes with this kit pushes me over the edge to where I don’t want to use these precious little toys incase I run OUT of sequins.  If you were sitting in my room with me RIGHT NOW you would be laughing so hard your head might roll!  Me, run out of sequins… I’m one FUNNY girl.

Shaker Cards, Flurry of Wishes stamp set, Stampin' Up!

I was so determined to use the bag of star sequins from the kit I over filled it.  Now I have a perfect excuse to order more.

Shaker Cards, Flurry of Wishes stamp set, Stampin' Up!

I started this card by using Crumb Cake cardstock.  I have a piece of 4 x 5 1/4 on top of the card base that I stamped with Whisper White Craft ink and the Flurry of Wishes stamp set.

The shaker was created using the Banner Framelits.  To create the shaker I die cut 3 banners using Whisper White, a Window Sheet and then the Soft Sky cardstock.  I then die cut the Soft Sky banner with the Perfect Pines Framelits Dies.  I used the smallest tree in that framelit set.

I added one last detail to this card that’s kinda fun.  I wanted a perfect snowy hill.  I used one of the Sleigh Ride Edgelits Dies to create the nice round edge.

Of course I felt compelled to embellish with a few of my favorites I have laying around such as a button, twine and a doily. I also used the Christmas Greetings Thinlits for my greeting.  LOVE these die cuts.

I’m excited to send this card this year because I know it will bring joy to the person that receives it and they will shake it like crazy.  I will continue to pray there are no areas breached and my beloved sequins will not go flying out of this card.

Change of Plans- It Happens

Change of Plans

It’s a typical way of life for the Van Deep in Troubles. Never are we not on guard for a quick change of plans and Sunday was no different.

Our well laid plans for Sunday involved a morning at church, proceeded by a fun day at the county fair.  A portion of this happened so I guess I can’t be too disappointed.

We did make it to church this morning and I must tell you even the 23 minute ride to church was unscathed.  As in we all got along and said fairly nice things to each other the entire way.

On a typical Sunday we look like this:

4 crazy people inside a moving vehicle- one still getting ready putting make up on.  Another looking stressed as if we might be late to church.  Another one falling asleep in the back of the truck and now his hair is standing on end.  Then their is me.  Asking questions… such as:

Did you brush your teeth? Do you have deodorant on? Why did you pick that shirt with a hole in the armpit? Do you realize there is a stain on it too?  Are you sure that dress is long enough? What exactly did you do to your hair? You didn’t have a better pair of shoes? Did you realize those are hospital socks and not everyday socks you are wearing?

We arrive at the church parking lot and the questions are still happening, the answers are only making me feel like a crazy mother and then it happens…

We walk out of the car as if we have every thing together.  A family well put together, smiling and greeted at the door.  The greeters always ask, “how are you?”  We always say, “Doing GREAT,” and we continue to walk to our chairs strutting as if the car ride didn’t exist.  We are just F.I.N.E!

Of course I am thankful our service starts with worship and I can sing loudly and get my “crazy mother” moment out of my head.

I’m not kidding at all.  This happens every Sunday except for today.  We actually managed to stay sane.  Of course the shirt incident occurred this morning, I knew if I remotely brought it up it would be the same Sunday as usual.  I let it go. I let it all go.  None of this mattered at all.  I think I tend to think about going to church with my grandmother and if you were attending with her you looked your Sunday best from head to toe and if you didn’t, she was the one talking about you to everyone.  Yes, she was like this.

It didn’t matter at all today.  What did matter was hearing my kids talk about the sermon. It meant they listened.  Even with a stain filled shirt, weird socks, possibly not brushed teeth, they heard the message.  Now whether we see a change in our own hearts… that’s another post for another day.

As we left church today we could see the rain clouds starting to form and knew that our day at the fair probably wasn’t the best choice.  As we rounded the corner to come home there was the lonely pumpkin patch and the kids wanted to pick a pumpkin.  The plan was to get one.  We ended up with 4.

Gourds, Kimberly Van Diepen,

I couldn’t resist taking a picture of all these Gourds.  I wanted a big basket of them but decided on a big pumpkin instead.

Change of Plans, Kimberly Van Diepen,Pumpkin Patch

Alexis struggled to carry hers and in the end Brandon’s stem on his pumpkin broke, it fell and cracked….

It’s the story of our lives.

Our pumpkins are awaiting the big carving as they sit on our front porch.

Do I dare say that I was happy to see rain?

The change of plans meant a day for me to take a nap curled up with my doggie. A change of plans meant a needed REST day.  I was happy!

Onward and upward….

Monday Inspiration

I did stamp over the weekend and I have some fun cards I’ll be sharing this week.  Here is one I created using the Peaceful Pines stamp set.

Peaceful Pines stamp set, Shaker Card, Stampin' Up!

I loved creating this shaker card using the Perfect Pines Framelits  along with the Holly Jolly Greetings stamp set.

The only thing to make sure when creating this is lining up the tree framelit.  I used the smallest tree in the framelit set to create this card.

Peaceful Pines stamp set, Shaker Card, Stampin' Up!

Using the Brights Sequin Assortment was perfect because they looked like vintage light bulbs to me.

Peaceful Pines stamp set, Shaker Card, Stampin' Up!

I used the Washi Label punch for the greeting and kept it very simple.

The Perfect Pines stamp set is by far my most widely used stamp set in the holiday catalog.  Whether you want to create simple or elaborate the Perfect Pines stamp set is perfect for both.  Click the photos and you can add this set to your shopping cart.

Friends, I hope your weekend was amazing and I hope your week ahead is splendid.  Hopefully your ride to church is a little calmer than ours but know that the Van Deep in Troubles see hope!

XOXOXOXO
