Oh So Succulent

Welcome to another Artisan Blog Hop! Be inspired by the Oh So Succulent bundle.

I was reflecting back on this stamp set and how long I’ve been using it and how many fun projects I’ve created with it.  In fact, this stamp set is hands down the one I used the most from the Occasions Catalog.

I was able to start using this stamp set back in October of 2016.  I started using it for the last November OnStage for my display samples.  The irony of this stamp set,  I had no idea at that time this stamp set had matching framelits.  When I was creating samples for the November OnStage, I hand cut each of the succulents.  It didn’t matter at the time because I fell in love with the stamp set.

The Power of the Sponge Dauber

Oh So Succulent, Stampin' Up!, Artisan Blog Hop

The Sponge Dauber has become one of my favorite tools to use with the Oh So Succulent stamp set.  When I researched the colors of different succulents, I noticed many had a variation of color.  Honestly, I was taken back by the many shades of colors I found of succulents.  Some were vivid with color and others very neutral.

For my card today I wanted a blend of colors.  The best way to get a combination of colors is to use a Sponge Dauber.

Tips & Tricks

You might be asking why I would use a Sponge Dauber over our regular stamping sponges? I found that the Sponge Dauber was a smaller sponge that gave me more control when blending colors.

  • I created the variation of color by taking my Sponge Dauber and adding the lightest shade of ink first.  The first color I added was Mint Macaron.  I sponged over the entire flower, then added shades of Pool Party, Bermuda Bay and lastly, Rich Razzleberry.  I applied this technique with only two of the larger flowers.
  • To create the circle, I  die cut Watercolor Paper using the largest of the Stitched Framelits.  After die cutting, I applied a layer of Pool Party ink, then Mint Macaron.  The Watercolor Paper was layered onto a Delicate White Doily.

Oh So Succulent, Stampin' Up!, Artisan Blog Hop

  • Lastly, I stamped the Happy Birthday onto Basic Black cardstock using VersaMark ink, then embossed with White Embossing Powder.  I love the pop of black to make the greeting stand out.  Once my focal area was complete I layered the circle die cut onto layers of the Succulent Garden Designer Series Paper.
  • One last embellishment added was sequins and enamel dots.  I love how these add texture to a project, and the card isn’t too lumpy, bumpy.

The Bouquet of Succulents

Have you ever created a card where you need to tell yourself just to STOP?

This next card I had to mentally tell myself to WALK AWAY! Kimberly, seriously, WALK AWAY!

I couldn’t help myself because I love these flowers. To be fair, succulents are pretty darn trendy right now.  Take a peek at your local plant nurseries, and you will see tons of succulents.

Oh So Succulent, Stampin' Up!, Artisan Blog Hop

Tips & Tricks

As I was creating this card, I started with a Whisper White cardstock and started stamping different flowers with different shades of color.  Once the flowers were cut, I started building my bouquet.

  • After I stamped and die cut my flowers I brushed many of them using the Wink of Stella Clear pen.  This gave the succulents a nice shimmer.
  • The two larger succulents were created using a Sponge Dauber as I explained in the card above.

Oh So Succulent, Stampin' Up!, Artisan Blog Hop

  • A few of the colors I used to stamp the flowers include Calypso Coral, Bermuda Bay, Sweet Sugarplum, Rich Razzleberry, and Pear Pizzaz.  Remember, there are many shades of succulents.  You can do a quick search on the internet to find the different shades of colors for succulents.

Begin Your New Year With Creating

There are so many great things you can start in the New Year.

Have you thought about crafting and creating handmade cards or other projects?

With Stampin’ Up! you can create beautiful projects with a few simple tools.

The new year brings new beginnings and new hobbies.

Maybe this will be your year to create new beginnings and a new hobby.

Simple or Experienced

All crafters start somewhere.

13 years ago I had never heard of Stampin’ Up! and had no clue what rubber stamping was.  It’s amazing to see where I’ve come from that point.

I enjoy the simplest of projects to the more complex.  As long as I’m stamping, I’m a happy girl.

Today I want to share with you two stamping projects, one very simple and the other a little more complex.

Paper Pumpkin

Regardless of where your experience falls with crafting, Stampin’ Up!’s Paper Pumpkin subscription is perfect to meet many needs.

You might be someone who is just starting to find the joy of rubber stamping.  Or maybe you are someone that loves to craft but find very little time to enjoy it.

Paper Pumpkin is a stamping kit that comes to your door with everything cut and ready to go for you to create unique projects each month.

Creating, Paper Pumpkin, Stampin' Up!

This is a little sneak peek of the December Paper Pumpkin kit.  The new crafter can create a beautiful Year End Scrapbook or you can use the project contents to create a project more to you’re liking such as a card.

I don’t know about you, but I love OPTIONS!

As a Paper Pumpkin subscriber with me, you will receive up to 12 tutorials each month with ideas to use with you’re monthly kit. These tutorials can be used with your kit or you can simply use these tutorials to learn new stamping ideas.  It’s completely free to you as a Paper Pumpkin subscriber with me.

Step it Up!

If you have been a crafter for a while, stepping up a project is always fun.

Keep in mind, stepping it up doesn’t mean its difficult.  It could mean just a few extra layers of cardstock or embellishments.

It could also mean learning a fun new technique.

Create, Paper Pumpkin, Stampin' Up!

This card was created using the Oh So Succulent stamp set available from the Occasions Catalog available on January 4th.

Create It!

Whether you are using the Oh So Succulent stamp set, the simple technique used below can be used with other lined image stamps.

Each flower has ink color added using a Sponge Dauber stamped into the center of each flower.

The colors used for the centers of the flowers include:

  • Cucumber Crush
  • Bermuda Bay
  • Sweet Sugarplum
  • Mint Macaron

Create, Paper Pumpkin, Stampin' Up!

The flowers can be die cut (coordinating die cut) or fussy cut with scissors and then layered onto the card front.

The Fabulous Foil Designer Acetate adds a beautiful touch to any project.

You will also see a simple technique using cardstock to create a felt ribbon.  Click HERE to watch a video on this technique.

Finish it Up!

Create, Paper Pumpkin, Stampin' Up!

Enamel Dots, the last embellishment added to the card front for a finishing touch.  These come in a variety of colors that coordinate with Stampin’ Up! cardstock, inks and other embellishments.

Color coordination of products makes creating simple with Stampin’ Up! and one of my favorite things about our products.

  • The outlined image is stamped using Bermuda Bay ink.
  • Fabulous Foil Designer Acetate was placed over Bermuda Bay cardstock and placed along the edge of the card.
  • Gold Metallic Enamel Shapes were added to the center of the flowers and around the floral arrangement.

More Sneak Peeks & Jolliness

 More Sneak Peeks & Jolliness

Happy Friday!  This was a FAST week and I’m ready for the weekend.

There is going to be a whole lot of jolliness if I can get my Christmas tree up!

Tree decorating is #1 on the agenda and I’m hoping the people in my house are ready.

Today I have another sneak peek and a Christmas card.  We’ll call today Double Whammy Day!

Let’s Be Jolly By Golly!

Before we get started… I have to give a shout out to my readers.

I am still cracking up over the comments and emails I received from Wednesday’s post… and my procrastination.

Seriously I was laughing out loud over them.  The panic I caused over a missing doily had me laughing in tears.  Oh the joy you bring me.  NOT kidding.

I love this community.

The other day Stampin’ Up! posted a video on the Chalkboard Technique you can see HERE.  I’ve done this technique before but it totally inspired me to create a card using the technique.

As I searched for a stamp set to use for this technique,  the Be Jolly, By Golly stamp set came to mind right away.

Jolliness, Be Jolly By Golly Stamp set, Stampin' Up!

This modern holiday stamp set has awesome typography that is perfect to create a fun chalkboard art card.

Jolliness, Be Jolly By Golly Stamp set, Stampin' Up!

Tips & Tricks

This was a very quick and simple card to create and perfect use of the Candy Cane Lane Designer Washi Tape.  The exciting news… the Washi Tape is on sale too.  YES!

Jolliness, Be Jolly By Golly Stamp set, Stampin' Up!

  • The background was created by watercoloring Cherry Cobbler ink over Watercolor Paper (3-3/4″ x 5-1/2″).
  • I added Splatter over the watercoloring once the ink was dry.
  • Washi Tape was added to the edges of a piece of Whisper White cardstock (4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″).  The Whisper White cardstock was added to the card base using dimensionals.

Jolliness, Be Jolly By Golly Stamp set, Stampin' Up!

  • Create the chalkboard art by using Whisper White ink onto Basic Black cardstock then heat emboss using White Stampin’ Embossing Powder.
  • The cardstock was die cut using the Stitched Shapes Framelits.
    • NOTE: The Stitched Shapes Framelits is currently on backorder but will be back in my Online Store in January.
  • Wrap Red Metallic Thread several times to create a bow.  Tie in the center and add small jingle bells.  Attach to the  card front using a Mini Glue Dot.

Another Sneak Peek & Gift Bag

Jolliness, Oh So Succulent Stamp set, Stampin' Up!

I shared a sneak peek of the Oh So Succulent stamp set HERE a few days ago.

Today I’m sharing a card and gift bag combo.

Jolliness, Oh So Succulent Stamp set, Stampin' Up!

One of the many reasons I love this stamp set is the two step stamping.

Jolliness, Oh So Succulent Stamp set, Stampin' Up!

The entire suite of products that coordinate include one of my new favorite colors- Sweet Sugarplum.

OH MY I love this color.  You can see how I used this color in this card.

Jolliness, Oh So Succulent Stamp set, Stampin' Up!

Keeping with the same color scheme, I created a gift bag to coordinate with the card.

Jolliness, Oh So Succulent Stamp set, Stampin' Up!

Now… for my embellishment lovers…

You will notice that on both the card and the coordinating bag I’m using two of my favorites

  • Delicate White Doilies
  • Enamel Shapes

Another AWESOME product that I’m using and loving is the Fabulous Foil Designer Acetate.  I used this product on the banner find the flowers on the gift bag.  This Foil Acetate is gorgeous and makes for a really fun background on any project.

Oh So Succulent- Sneak Peek

Oh So Succulent- Sneak Peek

The new Occasions catalog will be here before we know it and it’s going to knock your socks off.

I’m super excited to share a little sneak peek of one of the stamp sets, Oh So Succulent.

I have quite a few more sneak peeks I’ll be sharing over the next few weeks from the displays I created at the Stampin’ Up! conference.

The Oh So Succulent stamp set has an entire collection that coordinates, the best is the framelits.

Time for a Sneak Peek

Oh So Succulent, Stampin' Up!

One of the first things I thought about when using this set was creating a terrarium.

What better way to create that by using the Jar of Love stamp set and Everyday Jars framelits.

Once I had the jar die cut, I stamped the smaller succulent flowers inside the jar. I loved how this looked.

Oh So Succulent, Stampin' Up!

If you haven’t noticed already, Watercolor Paper has been one of my favorite papers to use.  I love how you can create a simple background with just a few brush strokes using your Aqua Painter.

I created the background using Bermuda Bay ink.  Dang!  This color rocks my world every single time.

Tips & Tricks

Oh So Succulent, Stampin' Up!

Here are a few tips and tricks when creating this card using the Oh So Succulent stamp set.

  • The Gold twine is one of my favorites from the Holiday Catalog- Bakers Twine Trio Pack.  This twine is perfectly flexible and easy to tie a fantastic bow every single time.
  • The Music Note paper is from the This Christmas Designer Series Paper in the Annual Catalog.  Yes, it’s Christmas paper, but music notes have a wonderful vintage feel and make any project perfect when you add it.
  • The tiny scallop edge was created using the Layering Squares Framelits and cutting one edge of a scallop square.  These scallops are small and delicate looking.
  • Happy Birthday is only a portion of the greeting that comes with this stamp set.  I simply masked the rest of the greeting and embossed the image using White Embossing Powder onto Basic Black cardstock to create a chalkboard look.

Please note… the Oh So Succulent stamp set is not available yet.

Try this color combination!

Sweet Succulent

Believe it or not I have a green thumb.

After playing around with this stamp set I might have to get my own REAL succulent plant.

The only plant I’m well known for killing is an Orchid.

Do you have a succulent? Are there tricks to keeping it alive? I want it to be just as pretty as the stamp images in the Oh So Succulent stamp set.

I’d love to hear your thoughts and I definitely can’t wait for you to get your hands on this BEAUTIFUL stamp set.
