Be Inspired-Favorite Celebration

Be Inspired-Favorite Celebration

Favorite Celebration, Stampin' Up!

Is it hard to think about a favorite celebration? When I sat and thought about this, I thought about all of the great parties we’ve had in our home.  I’d say the reality of our favorite celebrations boils down to everyday life.  We celebrate the littlest things along with the big.

I can’t say that I’ve thought this way all my life. In fact, it took Russ having a stroke for me to even think about how short our lives are and how we should celebrate every day.

Today, I’m going to share a birthday card because that is where it all begins for us.

Celebrating Life

I should probably tell you right off the bat that when it comes to celebrating birthday’s, I kind of suck at it.  I’ve longed to be THAT mom who goes over the top with birthday decorations, amazing birthday cakes, and parties that everyone talks about for days.

That’s not me.

Never has been.

Instead, I’m the mom who:

  • Puts together something last minute.
  • I’m typically the mom running to the grocery store grabbing the cake 30 minutes before the friends and family start arriving.
  • Yes, I’m the mom who waits until the very last minute to send all invites and sometimes it’s a phone call invitation.
  • My birthday decor is quite shameful, but somehow my family enjoys it.
  • I’m even the mom who has forgotten to make a card, and instead of making something super unique and personal, I grab something from the “already created” box.

While I’m not the award winning party planner, the party remains fun, my kids never complain and regardless of the card being personal or “already created” they always love my handmade card with a personal message inside.  That’s my “WIN!”

Happy Birthday, Friend

Birthday Celebration, Be Inspired, Stampin' Up!

When I started this card, I was in a colorful mood.  I had an idea of the colors I wanted to use which included Lemon Lime Twist, and Fresh Fig. I love how these two colors look together.  However, adding the third color became a bit more challenging until I put the Calypso Coral next to them.  I loved how this looked together.

Tips & Tricks

Birthday Celebration, Be Inspired, Stampin' Up!

  • I used the Happy Birthday Thinlits with Watercolor Paper then watercolored the die cut using Lemon Lime Twist and my Aqua Painter.  Tip: Wet the entire die cut with your Aqua Painter first, then add your ink color of choice.  Adding the water first makes the blending of the ink and water beautiful every single time.
  • To create the square, I used the Stitched Shapes Framelits largest square.  Then I watercolored the die cut using Calypso Coral ink and an Aqua Painter.  Tip: Add drops of ink to the square, then using a Heat Tool, move the water around to create a unique look.
  • I stapled the Linen Thread, die cut and Delicate White Doily together to help keep in place.  I used one tiny glue dot on the Happy Birthday die cut to help it lay down flat.

Birthday Celebration, Be Inspired, Stampin' Up!

  • Attach the happy birthday layer to a piece of Fresh Fig (2-3/4″ x 2-3/4″) at a slight angle.
  • One of my favorite greeting stamp sets is Thoughtful Banners.  The Thoughtful Banners is a great set that includes so many greeting choices.  Once all of my layers were attached, I stamped the friend greeting using Basic Black ink.

I love how this turned out, and it will make it into my basket of created birthday cards.  They are always great to have on hand, and from the looks of my basket, I need to start sending some.

Don’t forget to add a little touch of pizzaz to your card by using the NEW Glitter Enamel Dots.  I love the colors, and they coordinate with so many of our Stampin’ Up! colors.

Be Inspired

I hope I’ve inspired you in a few ways today.  First, it’s totally okay being a non-party planner.  Kids and adults are still going to have a magnificent time.  Second, I hope this card inspires you not only to create but also to step outside your usual color combinations.  I would love to hear what your favorite celebration is.  Enlighten me if party planning is your thing.  I could use the help.

Fun With Tasty Trucks Stamp Set

Tasty Trucks Stamp Set

Creating with the Tasty Trucks stamp set has not only been fun, but super creative.

This FREE sale-a-Bration stamp set is one you will enjoy the abundance of stamping opportunities.

I’ve seen this little truck turn into adorable options such as an ambulance, UPS truck and even a postal truck.

Of course, I’m always pretty simple when it comes to using this set but I have a few ideas I wanted to share.

Four Cards To Inspire You

Tasty Trucks, Stampin' Up!, Sale-a-bration

While you have many foodie images to choose from I fell in love with the cupcake image.  Maybe it’s because I would be giddy if a cupcake truck was found in my area.  Can you imagine? A girl can dream.

Taco Tuesday

Another favorite with this truck is the tacos.  Taco Tuesday is a BIG deal in my house.  Seriously, my kids can change their attitude in a heartbeat if I say it’s Taco Tuesday.

Tasty Trucks, Stampin' Up!, Sale-a-bration

I paired this image with one of my favorite pattern papers, Festive Birthday Designer Series Paper. The images in this paper are a perfect match for any Taco Truck.

This card will be perfect to give one of my kids a little kick in the pants when they are feeling gloomy.

Congratulations

I love the look of generation stamping and the different color hues you can see the more times you continue to stamp.

That is exactly how I created this card below using the congratulations image with the Tasty Trucks stamp set.

The fonts in this set are simple and perfect in size to create small thin banners.

Playful Patterns

Lastly, I wanted a card that was really playful and I love how you can achieve this look using our Designer Series Paper.

This card and the congratulations card above both use a FREE Designer Series Paper from the Sale-a-Bration products called Carried Away.  This paper has an array of beautiful bold colors to use for your projects.

Peekaboo Peach is a new InColor that I haven’t used enough.  I love how this looks watercolored and it’s perfect for spring paper crafting. I will definitely be pulling this color more for my spring projects.

Tips & Tricks

  • Watercoloring the truck after stamping the image onto Watercolor paper provided the best way to color this image because of the size.
  • Fussy cutting the truck gave me the ability to add the truck as another layer onto the card.
  • The taco truck awning was paper pieced using the Festive Birthday Designer Series Paper.

Here’s a Quick Way to Use the Balloon Adventures

Balloon Adventures Stamp Set

The Balloon Adventures stamp set is one of the many amazing birthday stamp sets in the new occasions catalog.

Today I have a quick way to use this stamp set and create a fun birthday card.

Balloon Adventures stamp set, Stampin' Up!

Never Enough Birthday Cards

Let’s face it, we will never have enough birthday cards on hand.  It’s not possible, at least for me anyway.

At first I asked myself did I really need another balloon stamp set? Quickly I thought no, but there are a few things about the Balloon Adventure stamp set that caught my eye.

  1. The fonts in the greetings of this stamp set are amazing. It is definitely something that caught my eye which makes designing SO much easier for me.
  2. Not one, but two coordinating ways to cut images in this set.  The balloons coordinate with the Balloon Bouquet punch and the Balloon Pop-Up Thinlits Dies.
  3. Party Animal Suite coordinates with this stamp set perfectly.

Masking with Balloon Adventures

One of the ways you can quickly create fun birthday cards with this set is by masking the balloons.

The masking technique creates the illusion that one image is behind the other and creates depth.  The first image you stamp is the image that will be in the front.

To mask using the Balloon Adventures stamp set you will need a simple Post-It Note.  Stamp the image onto the Post-It Note and cut the image out just inside the lines.  This is now your mask.

Stamp the image again onto your cardstock. Place your mask covering the image completely to protect it as you stamp the second time.  I love using Post-It Notes because the adhesive sticks to the image and makes it easy to stamp over.

Stamp the image again, positioning the image partially onto the mask. This second image will appear to be behind the first. Continue to move your mask around to create more depth.

You can see how I created many balloons in a bunch using one mask in this picture below.

Balloon Adventures stamp set, Stampin' Up!

You can also see how I masked in the original card below. I love how they all look bunched together.

Balloon Adventures stamp set, Stampin' Up!

Balloon Pop-Up Thinlits Dies

The new Balloon Pop-Up Thinlits Dies are perfect to create an interactive card.  Plus, another great thing I found  is the banner attached with this thinlits.

Balloon Adventures stamp set, Stampin' Up!

The banner I created for this card is part of the pop-up.  I simply trimmed in a couple of places on the cardstock to make the banner stand alone.  Once it was die cut, I stamped the banner images from the Balloon Adventures stamp set.

I’m Full of Hot Air!

Kimberly VAn Diepen stampin 'Up!

Okay, not ME but I'm in love with Hot Air Balloons.  My Prince is from a little town in Indianola, Iowa where Hot Air Balloons are HUGE.  I fell in love with seeing them when we would visit family.  One time a balloon landed in their front yard.  I was so excited like a little kid.  While I love how pretty they are I especially love a vintage looking balloon.

My love for the vintage balloon is the very reason why I love the stamp set You're Amazing.  All the images are beautiful but that balloon really stands out.

Kimberly Van Diepen Stampin Up!

Simple is a perfect description to put this card together! I simply used my World Spectacular Designer Paper and stamped directly onto it using Soft Suede, Island Indigo, and Sahara Sand.  Another great set that compliments You're Amazing is the Blue Ribbon Stamp set.  It's one of my FAVORITES and really, NO Graduate needed.  This set lends itself very useful for MANY occasions.

Tip: Change up how you place buttons onto your projects.  Try new tying techniques like I displayed on this particular card.  Simply tie your Bakers Twine in the back and let the tails hang.  Keep the button in place using a Mini Glue Dot.

Giddy when I stamp!

Last night I was able to sit back and just relax and stamp. Oh that feels so good. I feel like I am catching up finally. I needed to make my mom a birthday card. We celebrated while she was here and sure enough her card will be late. Go figure. If you ever get a card from me on time, something is truly WRONG! 🙂

I am trying to use a lot of my retired sets so I won’t feel so guilty when they come off my shelf. I told you yesterday that my French Script had smoke coming off of it and it still does. 🙂 I used kraft paper and stamped the flower from Natural Beauty. I then masked it and stamped french script over it. I colored the flower with Watercolor Crayons using my aqua painter and then stamped and cut out another flower to pop one up off the card. I stamped happy birthday from the Level 3 hostess set (can’t remember the name right now) and punched this out using my oval stamp on Rose Red. I then punched out another one in Choc. Chip and made a shadow effect underneath. I matted the flower image on Regal Rose paper and I love how this made the whole image just pop. Woweee. I then matted that on the new Designer paper (which I love) and some choc. chip. All that was placed on a piece of Kraft paper. Oh, I really like this card. Quite yummy!!

We had such a productive day today. Russ is in the garage sale mood so we spent hours in the garage today getting it organized. I can’t believe we can actually fit a car in it. WOW! I had to chuckle about this because today I thought Russ was going to wet himself when we watched hail coming down on both the cars. I have never seen him scramble so fast like he did today. I have NEVER seen hail like this before. Everyone around here keeps talking about it and boy is it amazing. Check this picture out. I am sure most of you have seen bigger hail, but I have not. I kept screaming about how big they were and Russ just kept laughing. Our yard looked like it had snowed. I was more excited about this than the kids. In fact, I felt like a kid.

Lastly, I was hanging plants prior to my parents coming because I wanted the house to look foo fooie. I hung a beautiful fern on my front porch and two days later a birdie made a nest. I have watched her for a few weeks now building her nest and while my family was here she laid two eggs. Well today we peeked in her nest and she has FIVE! I love to watch her take care of them. She is a sweet mama and she really protects her eggs.

Isn’t this the sweetest thing? I will update you on my little birds when they hatch. I hope they all make it. I would be devasted if something happened to them.

Well, it is late and that means it is time to stamp for me. 🙂 I love late night stamping. The best work from me is at night!
Have a fabulous Sunday. I have another card already brewing for tomorrow. 🙂
