Craftiness in the Kitchen

Craftiness in the Kitchen

If it’s one thing I’m not good at, craftiness in the kitchen! While I love to bake, I don’t do it often.  Honestly, I feel lately I don’t even cook often.  Having teenagers in the house we seem to spend more time on the road than in our home.  I’m quite sure our dinner options would make a clean eater go crazy.

Somethings in life you have to embrace.  Not cooking is an easy one for me to embrace.

Crafting with The Perfect Mix

While I may not be baking and cooking, I did mix up a fun card using the Perfect Mix stamp set.

I was totally drawn to this card because of the images and fonts.  The images have that retro fun appeal.

Tips & Tricks

Craftiness in the Kitchen, Perfect Mix, Stampin' Up!

I wanted the baking images to stand out really and what better way than to emboss.

Each of the baking images was stamped on cardstock, embossed with White Emboss Powder and then fussy cut.  Fussy cutting these images is not difficult and only takes a few minutes.

Craftiness in the Kitchen, Perfect Mix, Stampin' Up!

One of my long time favorite stamping techniques is using VersaMark to create a background.  Not sure you would even call it a technique, however, the fun watermark the VersaMark leaves on cardstock always amazes me. I created a fun background using the oven mitt image on the Watermelon Wonder cardstock.

VersaMark is a great stamp pad for any new stamper as well.  You can create fun backgrounds with this simple ink pad, and of course, it’s the perfect stamp pad to emboss images with.

Layers and More Layers

Craftiness in the Kitchen, Perfect Mix, Stampin' Up!

As always, I love to layer images and that was easily accomplished with this card and the baking images.

The images were layered onto a circle that was die cut using Kraft Cardstock and the Stitched Shapes Framelits.  I also added a small circle die cut from Watercolor Paper to add the greeting.

Many More Options

Craftiness in the Kitchen, Perfect Mix, Stampin' Up!

The Perfect Mix stamp set has many more options and I am only showing a few here today.  Instantly I can think of fun gift ideas to use this fun stamp set with.  A fun scrapbook page would be another fun option.

Here is another card I created using this stamp set.

Update on My Dad!

Thank you so much for your continued prayers for my dad.  He was discharged from the hospital on Friday night.  I wasn’t really happy about it as there were a few issues that were not resolved, but we put our trust in the professionals.  Well, that lasted for not even two days.  My dad ended up being re-admitted to the hospital on Sunday night.

Overall he looks better and getting stronger every single day.  The big risk for him is a stroke. As of today, he’s headed back home and we are praying his anti-coagulants are back in check.   Let’s hope this time for good.  Thank you for all of your prayers.  I appreciate you so much.  XOXOXOXO

Post Thanksgiving Coma and Falling Flowers

Post Thanksgiving Coma and Falling Flowers

Thanksgiving has passed but my food coma hasn’t.

The day was incredible with a house full of family, a ton of food and then mapping my Black Friday shopping.

Friday started my whirlwind weekend.  I thought Thanksgiving prep was tough… ha!

We ran hard on Friday morning all the way to the afternoon and then headed downtown to watch Alexis participate in a parade.

She was an awesome snowflake tumbler and the parade was fantastic.  We watched the city lights turn on downtown and it was  quite magical!

While the weekend was filled with amazing adventures, my office is calling my name and I’m excited to share a bundle of beautiful cards today.

Hope you bare with me as I take a small break from the Christmas cards and share a load of florals that I’ve fallen in love with.

Falling Flowers

While I was in Atlanta I was honored to present at Brian Kings local demonstrator event.  I shared two sets of cards both using some of my favorite accessories to embellish cards.

Today I’m sharing the first bundle using the Falling Flowers stamp set.

A couple of things you will notice about these cards…

  • All of them have the same color combinations with a few added colors here and there.
  • Each card has a technique.  You will see the technique name under each card.
  • You will notice my love for embellishments.  These are simple, inexpensive ways to add layers to a card.

Decorative Masks

Falling Flowers, Stampin' Up!

This card uses two techniques:

  • Decorative Masks – simply lay the decorative mask over a piece of Watercolor Paper, use an Aqua Painter to add color only in the area of the Decorative mask.  Notice it’s not perfectly colored, it’s more of a splash of colors creating a fun background.
  • Reverse Embossing- emboss a flower onto Vellum Cardstock, die cut using the May Flowers Framelits. Then on the reverse side, lay the Vellum onto a mouse pad, use a stylus to press into the open areas of the floral image.  When you turn it over you will notice the area turns white and looks 3D.

Falling Flowers, Stampin' Up!

Other embellishments that I loved to use on this card:

  • The scallops were die cut using the Layering Squares Framelits.  I simply cut an edge and use it to layer on a card.
  • Delicate White Doilies
  • Pearls… they make any card delicate and pretty.

Falling Flowers, Stampin' Up!

Emboss Resist

Falling Flowers, Stampin' Up!

Emboss resist is a technique that I’ve always loved.  I love how it looks on Watercolor Paper.  I embossed the beautiful filigree image onto the Watercolor Paper using White Embossing Powder, then watercoloring over the embossing using Sweet Sugarplum.

Because Falling Flowers does not have greetings with this stamp set, I used the Perfectly Wrapped Photopolymer stamp set.  It was perfect for these cards.

Falling Flowers, Stampin' Up!

Another fun product I love to use-Enamel Shapes.  They come in a ton of colors and always a perfect addition for any project.

Splatter & Twine

Falling Flowers, Stampin' Up!

Two ways I layer my cards LOTS… splatter created using my Aqua Painter and any color from my ink pads and my favorite thread from the 5/8″ Burlap Ribbon.  Oh my word I love this ribbon when you separate the threads.  It’s a must try.

Falling Flowers, Stampin' Up!

Other things I love to add to my cards- Sequins.  I have them in little saucers on my table always ready to use.  The Fine-Tip Glue Pen is the perfect adhesive to adding these sequins.

Tone on Tone Embossing

Falling Flowers, Stampin' Up!

If you are looking to create quick elegance on a card, try stamping and embossing with clear embossing powder for a tone on tone look.  I love how this looks on the Whisper White.  Pure elegance when you see it and super simple to create.

Falling Flowers, Stampin' Up!

I love how these tiny pearls add to the elegance of the card.

Overall, each of the cards have fun layers and embellishments added to each one.

A Few Secrets…

Can I tell you a little secret when it comes to creating cards with layers?  It’s not hard, and it’s not time consuming.

Another secret…. many times my cardstock layers are attached with a stapler.  This always saves me time and my layers always stay in place.

I realize that Stampin’ Up! will not carry our beloved stapler anymore, but friends… you can still use it.  It’s a GREAT tool and by far one that I use almost every single day.

Falling Flowers is a timeless stamp set that you can create gorgeous cards and projects with.

Here is the color combinations I tried to stick with for all of the cards.

I love to help spark your creativity.

Fresh New In Colors- Artisan Blog Hop

Fresh New In Colors- Artisan Blog Hop

Hooray for FRESH & NEW! The In Colors are now available and I’m excited to share a project that really shows their beauty!

First, let me tell you that I kept these cards simple, and quickly duplicatable for mass production.  If you ever hear the words MASS production from me, it will always be followed by the word- QUICK!  I am a lazy stamper so it has to be that way.

In Colors, Stampin' Up!, Artisan

I pulled out my new stamp set Love & Affection and wanted to see how this set looked with all of the new In Colors.  WOWSA. I don’t know what I love the most… the colors, the embossing folder or the beautiful cardstock.  They all made my heart do a little pitter patter.

In Colors, Stampin' Up!, Artisan

Dapper Denim…. isn’t it so Dapper?

Create It!

Each of the cards are the same design with the only difference being the colors used.

  • Start with your card base of Whisper White 4-1/4 x 11.  Mat with another piece of Whisper White cardstock measuring 4-1/8 x 5-3/8 using dimensionals.
  • Stamp the flower image and center pieces onto a the top portion of a Whisper White cardstock 4 x 5-1/5.  Each of the center flowers used Crushed Curry ink.  Layer a piece of Vellum cardstock 4 x 5-1/4 over the Whisper White using Fast Fuse.  Make sure to place Fast Fuse around the middle of the Vellum so that the adhesive does not show.
  • Texture emboss using the Floral Affection Impressions Folder using the Big Shot with each of the new In Color cardstock measuring 2-7/8 x 4. Mat each of the embossed cardstock pieces onto another piece of cardstock the same color measuring 3-1/8 x 4.
  • Stamp the greeting (which I love by the way!) onto Basic Black cardstock (3/4 x 3-3/4) using VersaMark ink and then heat emboss with White Embossing powder.  Create a banner on the end of the Basic Black cardstock and attach to the Texture Embossed layers using a Handheld Stapler and then onto card front using Fast Fuse.

What is your favorite?

I would love to hear from you… What is your favorite? I noticed I was stingy and didn’t share a full card of the Sweet Sugarplum In Color.  It’s a beautiful shade of purple that I guarantee is going to be a hit.  So which one does your eye capture first? Quick & Easy- Affectionately Yours Suite

Quick & Easy- Affectionately Yours Suite

Quick & easy and Affectionately Yours…  at first glance you might have stopped for a second and wondered who’s blog you stumbled upon.  LOL.

My title sounds a bit crazy… but so am I so we are all good.

Really, I have a quick and easy card today and it’s using the Affectionately Yours Suite.  It’s NEW.

I’ve been holding out on sharing some of the new products because I feel kinda “na na boo boo” about it.  Does that make sense? This time of year is a struggle for me because I have new products in my hands.  I want to use them.  BUT… there are so many great stamp sets retiring and I want to get a lot of use out of them before they go away.

Ultimately I need about 10 more hours in my day and I could accomplish all things.

Affectionately Yours Suite

Todays card is using a new stamp set called Love & Affection.  At first glance I wasn’t head over heals in love but then I used it.  That’s when the change happens.  It happens all of the time to me.  Suddenly I am in love once the ink hits the stamp and then to the paper.  SHAZAM.  Love!

Affectionately Yours, Stampin' Up!

The designer paper in this suite, Affectionately Yours is beautiful.  It’s a mix of bright colors as well as a few darker tones and COPPER.  The paper I used for this card is one of my favorite prints from the collection.  I love how the blue looks on the craft.

Affectionately Yours, Stampin' Up!

Tips & Tricks

Here are a few tips when creating today’s card using the Love & Affection stamp set.

  • I embossed the large and small flower using Whisper White craft ink with White Embossing Powder onto Vellum cardstock. I placed the same size sheet of Whisper White cardstock (3-1/4 x 4-1/2) under the Vellum.  You can see the yellow hues peeking through the vellum.  To create that look use a sponge dauber and swirl Daffodil Delight ink in a circular motion where the flower centers will lay over.  I just lifted the vellum and made quick ink marks where the centers would lay and then went back to darken the yellow ink.
  • Once the stamping was complete the Vellum/Whisper White cardstock was matted onto a piece of Night of Navy cardstock (3-3/8 x 4-5/8) and popped up using dimensionals.
  • The greeting was stamped onto a Tags & Label framelit and the left side of the label was trimmed off.
  • The new Thick White Bakers Twine is going to be a great addition to our core line of ribbons.

Affectionately Yours, Stampin' Up!

The greetings are very fun in this stamp set but most of all I love the font.  It’s ridiculously amazing.

Affectionately Yours, Stampin' Up!

You can see I also added a little bit of a doily under the label and greeting.  I love how something as simple as a doily can make the entire card look delicate.

What do you think?

Spotlighting Technique

Spotlighting Technique

Have you ever wanted to spotlight an image you stamped and really make it stand out?  I was rummaging through a few cards and found an old card from a few years ago that jumped out at me.  It was a card using the spotlighting technique and I fell in love with the technique over again.

I find that I don’t play around with techniques as much as I use to.  Call it lazy maybe, because I know many… just seem to fall in love with an image and then stamp stamp stamp.

After looking at the technique I thought about the All Ye Faithful stamp set and wanted to see if I could spotlight an area with one of the images.

Oh my!  So simple, yet so fun!

All Ye Faithful, Stampin' Up!

You can see how I created this card in the video I created below.

All Ye Faithful, Stampin' Up!

All Ye Faithful, Stampin' Up!

One of my favorite new accessories to use is the Cutie Pie Thinlits. Inside this awesome Thinlit package is this scallop die cut. OHHH WEEE.  I love it so much.

All Ye Faithful, Stampin' Up!

Think of other stamp sets you can use the Spotlighting Technique with such as flowers or our stamp sets with wilderness images.  These would be perfect.

You can see all the products I used for this card below.  Just click the links and they will take you directly to my online store to purchase.

Don’t forget!

Just a few updates today.  I am on the road with my bestie heading to Tampa for the Onstage Live Stampin’ Up! event.  I’m excited to see the unveiling of NEW products.  This is one of the best things as a demonstrator.  Getting our hands on the *new* fun stuff.  I can’t wait.
